Mile stones in gettenthere's life

Jan 31 2003 I was a living vegetable I was on 21 different meds had suffered a stroke and was insulin dependent. I weighed 316 lbs and was to ashamed to tell any one so I lied about my weight, and now to come to think of it I only fooled my self. I wore 5X clothes and even when I sewed my tent dresses I had to look for material that was 54" wide. This is for those who think Atkins does not work.

That day was the beginning of a new life for me I did something that I would not advise any one to do. I took all my meds and insulin and threw it all out. I started Atkins had a lot of withdrawal symptoms but just kept it to my self. Two weeks of induction gave me such a lift I was down 16 lbs. My blood sugars were down I was in seventh heaven I started walking with a walker, then with a cane and now with nothing just my good old feet.

I'll be 71 this year, I have 2 sons and 6 adorable grand children. I'm CEO of my family.
Love my life now and have a blast! each day, the Good Lord has been very good to me . I got a second chance. Was down to 175 and some times fit into a 12. I've found love and support from my new family that I've never met . My Atkins friends without whom I never could have come so far. If I had to list each and every one I'd fill pages, but you all know who you are and how much I and appreciate each one of you

I went on the FF when nothing else was breaking my stall. Lost 10 lbs in 5 days It was hard but well worth it. For a period of 6 weeks after that I was away with no computer, and no support , it was easy falling into carb hell. Gained back the 10 and could not loose it again. I tried every thing nothing seemed to work I've yo-yoed 2 up 5 down 6 up I must have lost the same 10 lbs a zillion times. Lesson well learnt)

I am also a member in the "all I want for christmas challenge and I thought you may want to read what one of my dear friends had to say . she has known me since I first started Atkins.

Quote:
Ok..I'm going to "Out" getten a bit here. Only because she totally awes me as a woman and fellow low-carber. I believe I first talked to getten in chat one day..someone steered her my way ( for the life of me I can't remember who LOL) Anyway..at one point..she talked to me over the phone. I have to say..I can barely connect to the woman from back the to the woman I now call someone I just love to pieces and consider a good friend! She was in such a dark place re: her weight and what to do. She was very sad ( or that was my take) and struggling so hard to believe this could work for her. I think at one point I remember asking her how much she wanted to lose..and she got ultra defensive. I totally understood.

It still gives me chills when I recently read her whole story. Yes, her weight loss is amazing, but even more so the changes in her personality are to be commended. She has become one of the most positive warm and loving woman I have met. She never hesitates to reach her hand out to me when I'm struggling..and sends me inspirational PM's that have saved me on many a dark day.

So, I'm sorry to out you Getten..but I want you to know..that every time you thank me or others, I always say a big thanks to you! You inspire me daily..and I want you to know...I truly LOVE the woman you have become!

Lisa my inspiration and support.
Lei for cheering me on
Cheri for all her contributions to LCF

A lot of stories inspire me on this board, but I think you have inspired me the most. If you can do this at 71, I have to stop using the excuse I will be 60 this year. You are an awesome woman. Thank you for telling your story.

For those who don't know Gettenthere very well: I will tell you that no matter what obstacles got in her way, she found a way around them. Not only has she done this for herself, she did this for me too. I had been stuck for months with no weight or inch loss. Gettenthere, you SAVED me! Thanks for posting this. You are one of those Angels God sends here to help others. I am sure of that now.

Hi Gettenthere...

I remember when you first started coming to the site... You were so determined to lose weight and did so well... so many people have helped you along the way.. LCF has the best support system on the net. You were in the chatroom every day and I think that helped you stay on the right path... I am glad you found something to break your stall and you are near your goal... Keep up the great work and remember you have a lot of people that love you so please make sure you let every one of them know how you are doing... We all will support you in any way we can... Remember it is you alone that will keep yourself on track because it is your decision to stick with it and get to where you want to be... and you have a lot of people in your corner..... cheering you along the way!

Love,

cheri

I am SO PROUD OF YOU! I am also thrilled you posted your story and what an inspiration to all of us. How wonderful you are off meds and walking on your own two feet. I'll bet your doctors are in awe and talking you up to their other patients as a successful example.

I know you will meet your goal - and what's even greater is your life has changed 100%.

Many hugs to you for the work and "stick-to-it" attitude you've exhibited.

You may never get a reply from that one person who is struggling and wondering if it's worth it, or maybe he/she just has too much weight to lose, etc.

But I will tell you this...your story is inspiring and I guarantee you've given more than one person hope today.
