This isn't a sticky?

Thanks for posting this -- glad it rose to the top eventually so I could see it. I'm having a really hard time right now and maybe there's some insight in these links.

Thanks!

Did anyone mention

Dr Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution?

I can't say enough good things about this book! Don't follow he diet at the very end (which only takes up a few pages anyway), and even if you don't like his show, OMG, he is amazing in this book.

With questionaires to work through and some very get real analyzation, I know he helped kick my butt to get where I needed to be to lose weight.

I attribute the 115 pounds I've lost to three things: Support, Dr Atkins and Dr Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution book!

This is a great thread, and I'm so glad to see it here!!!

Thanks, too, Nonstickpam for bringing up the *physical* part of things... my weight problems turned out to be due to undiagnosed Lyme disease, which wreaks havoc with the thyroid, the hormones, and everything else in the body.

I do appreciate the emotional aspects of eating, though... I had an eating disorder as a teen (long ago now) so I've been down that road, too.

miraclemom! You're welcome! I super-love this book! I've had some challenges before where we read the book as a group (a chapter a week). It really made a difference! And being able to discuss the book chapter-by-chapter made a huge difference, too. It makes you feel like you're not the only alone in the struggle. I'm glad you've found the book to be a wonderful one as well! I know it sure sets things straight for me.

I know EXACTLY why I'm overweight and why I overeat. It's quite simple for me. I'm addicted to sugar/carbs and if I eat it, it sends me into a tailspin. My voracious appetite comes back and I can't eat enough! If I keep that under control I eat well, my health improves and I lose weight. It took me awhile to figure that all out but I finally did....the hard way. lol.

Thanks for bumping. I read a couple of Geneen Roth's books after first seeing this thread. They were interesting, but what really resonated with me was the boundary setting issue. That's a biggie for me - it was even before I had children and now it is even more so.

Thank you thank you Pauline! I have learned so much since you have been back on the boards! The boundaries discussion really hit home to me. That is me. Lots of times doing for others not because I want to but out of guilt, etc. I need to set more boundaries and take care of myself. That was so thought provoking that I am going to sit down and do some writing about it today. Thanks again!

I know why I'm overweight. I'm not overweight because I was always hungry and could never seem to get enough to eat, nor am I an emotional eater. I'm strictly a boredom eater and I didn't realize this til probably about 2 years ago. I would associate watching TV or being on the computer with eating food. And since I used to always be on the computer, I was always eating food to accompany me. Since I've learned that it's a psychological thing and I'm not really even hungry.

missing gene?

I always believed that somehow i was biologically flawed in a way that i was not able to feel full after a big meal, and even an hour later it was as if I had never eaten. I have trained myself, gradually, over the course of time, to cut down on the daily quantity of food (thanks to Weight Watchers)and because of the low carb approach(thanks to ATKINS), I have lost 111 lbs to date. It always happened, and is happening now that after the 100 lbs loss, i am exponentially hungry. I do slip from time to time. But, because i am mindful of my goal 24/7, these 'slippages' are self limiting. In the past, i only gave thought to the moment at hand. I had to feed the inner demon. As a consequence, I always put the weight back on plus more. Now, I stay mindful of my progress to date. GETTING TO GOAL is so important, that I am able to keep on plan. Whether there is a lab test to show whatever it is was causing the pathological obesity, I do not know. The TREATMENT is to stay on plan, celebrate the progress, and be forgiving of the TEMPORARY backsliding. SUCCESS TO US ALL!!! Love & Profits:FLATFERENGHI
