Low carb Disneyland
This past Sunday my friends and I went to Disneyland. It's been months since my last visit, and you know what excitted me the most about it? TURKEY LEGS!!!
Throughtout the day I took down two legs, and maybe three or four veggie packs (celery, brocoli and carrots dipped in ranch dressing). I didn't eat any candy, or ice cream. I had a little bit of popcorn. Okay so I guess I didn't COMPLETELY low carb it. Well I jumped up 8lbs!! I drank plenty of water that day too. Finally this morning I lost 2 lbs. But I"m still 6lbs gain!! I know I didn't cheat, I'm still a lil bloated, but this made me realize that no matter how healthy I"m eating, the fact that I ate too much still shows on that darn scale. I'll tell you what though, before I left, I bought three more turkey legs to stock up my fridge. I guess I'll never learn. ![]() |

That's what my friend told me. She said that she could taste teh salt in them. I guess I must have wolfed my down too fast to have noticed. Still though, having these huge turkey legs kept me away from cheating. Universal Studios have them as well. I also hear that if you spend 20 bucks at Universal, you could eat as much as you want througout the park.

I'm sure it's just water! You'll be back down in no time at all! Congrats on staying away from all of the "sugary, gooey, oozey" kinda stuff!

Might not even be the salt. Often times when you spend the day on your feet for so long you will gain some water weight to repair and rebuild muscles. Similar to when you have a long workout for the first time. I usually gain a bit when we spend the day at Knotts or Disneyland. It will fall back off and then some. Where did you find the turkey legs at Disney? Forget about low carbing at Knotts Berry Farm. I have yet to find anything legal there and I have an annual pass. Not even the chicken restaurant will cater to low carbers.

wjurls - I did not know about the water retention from standing all day. That does make sense. Why else would I have been so tired at the end of the day.
To be specific, there were two locations for the turkey legs at disneyland. One is right around the center of the park, in the front of the magic castle. The other location is around the area of Pirates of the Carribean, and the Haunted House. There's that lil area where they selll everything. Each leg costs 6.00, and it's literally bigger than my forearm. I should take a pic of it tonight since I have two more saved up in my fridge. ![]() |

I guess my only complaint is that I was so proud of myself for sticking to low carb, but because I ate too much, my scale got a lil unfriendly with me. *sigh* It just felt like I cheated, but I didn't!

I think they may marinate or inject the turkey legs with a solution that has sugar. And I have yet to find a packet of ranch anywhere "out" that doesn't have a lot of sugar. Why, may I ask, why do they feel the need to soak our meat in sugars? It is so wrong.

WAAAAAAA!!! It's soaked in sugar!! That means I cheated?! And what about the two legs I got in the fridge!?
Is it still okay to have them if I up my water? I thought I was gaininig because of how big those suckers are. I never thought about the lethal injection! |

Thanks you guys for the awesome support. Now, if you were me, would you eat the two turkey legs that I still have?
THey're huge and it'd be a waste to throw them away! |

Yup-saw on "Unwrapped" how they make those turkey legs. They marinate them/inject them so they cook up nice and tender.
What you gained is water weight..not fat. Quit getting on the scales for a week or two, stick to plan and I bet it will all work out on it's own! |

You did really good, especially in the midst of ice cream, churros, french fries, all kinds of stuff that smells good as you're walking by. The turkey legs were the best choice and now I'm glad I know about them. They probably are injected with bad stuff, but still - not a bad choice. I, too have a problem with eating too much food. I think since I was one of five kids, I felt I had to wolf it down before someone else got it. Bad habit.

Good for Disneyland. I ate at the Blue Bayou last May and they converted my prime ribs to double veggies instead of mashed potatoes.

another surprising choice at Disneyland
Last time I was there I tried something new. I usually eat at the Bengal BBQ (skewered meat and veggies...hot & spicey or sweet (obviously the sweet is not on MY menu) or the turkey legs being discussed here. If we eat outside the park it's at the ESPN Zone for THE BEST WINGS I've ever had. But, last time I ate at the Pizza Port. I had a HUGE Caesar salad and a slice of pizza that I ate the toppings off of. It was actually very good. I was surprised! Totally beat a dried out bunless burger IMHO. The salad was so big I split it, but ate my own pizza toppings all by myself.
![]() Also, just thought I'd ad the turkey legs are available at the hub in front of the castle. There's a little cart on the west side of the hub (in the direction of Frontier Land) and there's a cart in Frontier Land across from the Mark Twain (paddle boat) landing. I haven't seen them by the Pirates or the Haunted House. I'll have to look there next time. Pizza Port is by Space Mountain and Bengal BBQ is across from Indiana Jones. Disney is TOTALLY do-able low carb. They also have a no sugar added ice cream from Dreyers (butter pecan). We get a double scoop in a cup and share. I am thrilled to just not gain when I do something like Disneyland. But, on occasion, I actually lose...thanks to all the walking AND sticking to plan! WJurls - I've been trying to remember where we ate at Knott's. It was a walk-in somewhere in the park (the Ghost Town area I believe)...anyway I had some sort of chicken breast with some sort of cheese on top and veggies. It was not great - but it was LC! Notice I can't remember the details of it, whereas I could tell you in detail the good stuff from D-land. Anyway, just wanted to mention it in case someone might be needing the info. |

Oh yea, you know where it's not low carb friendly? California adventure. My friends talked me into getting those park hopping tickets and we went there first. I was so mad when I saw that big old sourdough bakery where even their salads are served in their crusty sweet smelling sourdough bread bowl! I headed right back to Disneyland.
