Carbohydrate Addicts Diet

Hello! I need some suggestions. I have tried many diets, and I have always had problems. Atkins has never worked for me because for some reason it tends to make me very sick. I have liver damage from an acute case of Mono and that may have something to do with it. I currently started the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet and it seems to be working. Has anyone else tried this diet? Do you have any suggestions? Has anyone been successful with it? I need some inspiration. Thank you

Jamie

I too wanted to say . A good friend of mine does CAD and has lost 50 pounds. She still wants to drop another 20 but she's done great and loves it. She said the reward meal has never caused her cravings either.

I did it for about three weeks but it was the Maintenance Phase. I'm not sure why I stopped. A poster, Sandooch has done very well on it.

I started with CAD and lost my first 30 pounds with it. Always thought it would be a good maintance program. I went to ATkins because I felt that I needed to be a little stricter.

Aww...thanks everyone for remembering that I'm on this plan.

Yes, Jamie, I have recently started this plan to lose my last 10 pounds, and I am very impressed with the results I've gotten so far. When I first started it, though, I put on a couple of pounds at first. I was a little freaked out but was told that this was normal when coming off of another diet and onto CAD.

I am actually following The Carbohydrate Addict's Lifespan Plan (CALP), which is a bit stricter than CAD. For your reward meal, instead of just eating whatever you want for the hour, you start out with a salad, then fill your plate with 1/3 portion of protein, 1/3 portion of nonstarchy veggies, and 1/3 portion of a carb of your choice. This carb could be a potato, rice, bread, sweet, or alcohol. I don't drink myself and I don't eat any sweets right now, so my carb of choice is usually sweet potato, rice, or bread.

I am really surprised at how well it is working for me. I really thought that I'd lose maybe 2-3 pounds a month with it, especially being so close to goal, but I've lost 5.5 pounds in about a month, and it seems to be coming off faster and faster. Maybe the muscle I'm adding from my workouts is speeding up my metabolism, too.

Best of luck to you with it. I know of at least one other poster her, a gentleman, who had success with CAD, too. I hope he comes in here.

My Hero!

I took the test and failed miserably! I answered yes to 9 out of 10 of the questions
I've been reading up on this WOE at the link you provided and I'm going to give it a shot! It sounds so darned do-able! I've wasted so much time in the last few years

I've ordered the book and am excited to read it!

Thanks, Sandy!

Sandy,
Is CAD the same as Atkins as to when you have a cheat you gain 5 pounds and it takes 3 weeks to come off?
My DH and i love Atkins and have been doing great but those past few months we are stalling, yes because of cheats but to us this is not a way of life. I get discouraged a lot when those pounds don't come off...see what i mean....so i'm looking for something that will not make us gain so much when we cheat....

No, on CAD you don't gain weight as easy, as you do on Atkins, if you have a cheat...

I also do CALP......I always choose a complex carb for my reward meal, rather than something simple. The cravings are basically nil. I love this plan!!

I have friends who did very well on it.
I reache goal on Dr.Atkins. Now I kind of use the "1 hr. - 2 cups salad - divided dish" theory for my higher carb meals.

Reggiano--Here is a copy of CAD from another post I just bumped up:

On CALP you eat only protein, fat, and veggies for two meals and then have one reward meal a day. At a reward meal you fill your dish with 1/3 protein, 1/3 nonstarchy veggies, and 1/3 of a carb of your choice (this could be rice, potato, bread, a sweet, or alcohol...just don't go over 1/3 of a portion). You also start each reward meal with a salad. A reward meal cannot go over one hour, but that doesn't mean you eat for the whole hour, just until you are satisfied and it must be balanced as explained above.

I'm still waiting for my books but am experimenting the last couple of days. It sounds so do-able!

Here's the test the authors offer: I answered yes to 9 out of 10! I do believe I'm a full blown carbohydrate addict!

Sandy~ when you say "1/3" of a portion does that mean like you can only have a 1/3 of a biscuit or steak or salad etc...?

Melissa--No, what I meant was get a dinner plate and divide it into thirds. So 1/3 of the plate would be filled with protein, 1/3 nonstarchy carbs, and 1/3 carb of your choice.

So basically, you eat three meals, the first two being low carb even Atkins style and then the RM is a plate divided into 3; protein, carb, veggie and a salad?

Sounds very do-able.
