Seems I 've been around forever, but....

I keep screwing up! I lose...feel great, get complimented and then WHAM....I start with small cheats, which turn to big cheats....on and on the story goes. I am currently within a mere 5 lbs of where I STARTED last year. Ugh...one of these days I will figure out WHY I let this happen. I mean, I felt WONDERFUL! I looked good....my clothes fit....on and on the story goes. (Sound familiar, anyone?) I have a renewed spirit though and I want to do this right this time. I remember taking a handful of vitamins/supplements when I was really serious, but I cannot for the life of me remember which ones worked or were really important. I can remember taking CLA, flaxseed oil capsules, calcium, a multi (centrum senior so that I didnt get extra iron), and who knows what else. People made fun of me because of everything I took. What is it that you all take? I'm compiling a grocery list and also a vitamin list so that I can be prepared. I have to go into this full force or I will fail again. Any help with my "list" would be greatly appreciated as I know this question probably gets asked alot. Thank you to everyone who answers the sammmmmmme questions over and over with respect. You are all very much appreciated!

just buy real whole foods that are right out of the induction list to get started, You can buy 90% of what you need in the outside ring of the supermarket, produce, meats, and dairy.

dont forget some bottled water too.

Vitamins, a good multi vitamin packet from GNC is what I use. why do you care what anyone thinks of the food or vitamins that you take when you

I feel your pain! The closer I get to goal, I feel like the weekends are free range or something...

I do good all week, then Wham, like you...and it takes 3-4 days to feel good again..

I don't want this cycle to continue, so I am adding variety all good induction friendly food to my meals all week

Today is eggplant.

I wish you luck

Also, I think IMO that I am scale addicted and am thinking of hiding the stupid thing

Thank you, ladies! Much appreciated!

Last year at this time I was within 6 lbs of my goal weight. I am now 20 lbs above that and really trying to self-motivate. I look back at how good I felt and I want to do this again....the right way....for the last time. I have been pouring over the SB diet book and trying to decide which plan is best for me. I am to the point where I literally gag at the thought of meat sometimes, PLUS I need a renewed spirit with something new. Not sure I am going to make the switch, but I am researching it so that I can make an educated choice. So far today I am on induction since basically thats what both plans are for the first 2 weeks anyway. (from what I can see so far).

Vitamins...keep em coming! I love to see what works for everyone. Thats how I came up with my "list" the first time.

And when you figure it out can you let me in on the secret!!!!

Seriously, I too started slowly with cheats and then they got bigger and bigger and bigger. I am up from my low and it is upsetting.

I have vowed to not buy any new clothes until I am close to goal. I figure wearing the ugly stuff in my closet will be punishment enough not to eat!!! I am a shop-a-holic and this is harsh punishment!!!!

I have been eating better, and feel much better and hopefully the scale will move the way it should.

Good luck to you.

Mizz - what about exercise? Are you planning to start an exercise program? That will really help keep you on track, IMO.

Sounds like we are all doing the same ole' song and dance, huh? What we need to do is figure out WHY!? I sure hope someone comes up with a good answer to this one. I think its great that we all realize WHAT we are doing wrong, and maybe, just maybe if we work together we can come up with a way to make it work for us! BTW, it is so nice to meet all of you. Julia---you have been a source of inspiration for me from day 1. I was so excited to see your continued success. A bit envious, I admit, but very happy for you!! What was your secret? I know you mentioned exercise. Was that what did it for you? I was so faithful about exercising a year ago and I do think it makes a huge difference. Besides, it's been an extremely stressful year for me and I could use burning off some frustration each day. I have been working on getting my "gym" set up in the basement again so that I have somewhere I can work out. I also spoke with an instructor around here that does pilates workouts and she is going to get me the schedule of classes. I think this is what I've been waiting for. I "needed" to "want" it if that makes sense.

So...to all of you...Thank you. Good luck, and together we can do this!!

Teri, thanks for sharing your list. What does the Chromium do? I heard Magnesium helps in the potty dept, but I'm not sure what else it does.

I agree with Julia about the exercise! That has helped me more than anything, esp. in maintaining! I would have to starve myself almost (or at least I would feel like it) to maintain if I didn't!

Exercise has been a big part of it, but when it comes to losing weight, diet is 90% of the equation and exercise is 10%. You can workout until you drop but if you don't eat clean you won't get where you want to be.

You have to be really honest with yourself about what you eat and why you eat it. A food journal is an invaluable source of information, but you have to be totally honest with yourself. You have to record everything you put in your mouth, including that bite of macaroni and cheese while cooking for the kids or that extra tablespoon of cream in your coffee. If that sounds like too much trouble then you're not ready to tackle your weight problem.

Another big key to success for me has been this board, especially the exercise board and the video fitness challenge thread. I would highly recommend you check the challenge board and find a challenge to join. The support of my daily check in with my fellow video workout friends has really helped me stay on track.

Don't get me wrong, I think exercise is very important for a lot of reasons, including weight loss. Exercise really helps to keep you motivated to eat right, it helps suppress appetite and controls stress and depression.

You can do it!
Julia

Miss Calamity - Your story sounds all to familiar to me. I know it would be so easy to pack those pounds back on and in a hurry. I found that out by packing on 10 of the 65 I lost. I now struggle with it everyday. I did great maintaining 95 lbs. for about a year and then wham! I kept listening to everyone about how thin I was and maybe I was just a little too thin. During the holidays I started eating more than I normally did, then started having a little cheat here and there, then started having periods of carb binges for days at a time. I put on ten pounds in just a matter of weeks. Well now, I've been struggling just to keep my weight at 105 lbs. and that includes several days out of the week of Induction eating. I have found those ten pounds are not going to come off as easy as they did the first time. Not only that, all 4 pair of my goal pants are tight now. I was so proud to be able to wear a 0 Petite. Now they will not fasten. Anyway, you just need to kick the "cheating" out the door, stay determined to stay on plan, and get plenty of exercise, and take your supps. My supps include the Omega 3 & 6 oils, One A Day Carbsmart, Calcium, GTF Chromium, L-Glutamine, Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin B Complex.

I might say I did exactly what I knew I would do when I set out to regain a few pounds; I became a Carb Junkie again and didn't know when to stop. I am an ADDICT!

Good Luck! Granny Ann

Wow Jonah's Granny, My story is similar to yours. I almost wish people wouldn't tell me I am too skinny. When I was at 135 I felt so great and I started listening to people and psychologically I think I thought I could eat alittle more and it would be okay. I gained back to 145 before I knew it and now it is a terrible struggle to get back to where I was. I am going to go for 130 now so I will have a "cushion". I have GOT to quit listening to others and do what I know makes ME feel good. Easier said than done.

I know exactly you mean. I came down with the flu two weeks ago and it started with "soup" that my husband gave me. Then I felt like I have license to eat whatever I wanted. What a mistake! So today I am back on it. I went from 175 to 163/4 and felt fantastic. I would wake up in the morning with no aches and pains and also I was headache free.

Why do we do this to ourselves? That is my question. It is almost like sabotage....... we all know this woe works - so why do we constantly feel we should test this?

Good question, ixtapacheryl! It's one I have been trying to figure out myself. *sigh*

Granny Ann, you were also one of my inspirations on this board. I used to check every day to see how you and many of the others were doing. It kept me going, but then life just got in the way and things became super stressful for me. I ended up with the "just don't give a chit" attitude. I am trying so hard to get the right mindset going again so that I can feel good about myself again. You still look amazing even though you said you have gained some. You did it once....you can do it again!! It's amazing to me how fast the weight comes back on!!! Makes me wonder....

Oh, before I forget....I have a question about Cortisol. I have been hearing alot about how it makes you fat because it's considered to be the "stress hormone"? Well....two of my friends are going through a divorce right now and another friend of mine just lost her son to a murderer. All three have literally melted before my eyes and that makes me curious. They are all obviously stressed beyond belief....but they are melting and not getting fat around the midsection as the Cortisol theory sounds. Any idea? I dont know that much about the hormone, so I am just throwing this out there, but I am truly curious and would love input!

Landis, I did the same thing. I am only 5'3" but I weight 150 right now. I started at 156 and lost down to 131 as my lowest. THAT was when the failure kicked in. Everyone that I saw commented on how sunken my cheeks looked and how I *didn't need to lose anymore weight* *I was too thin* *I looked anorexic* So....whatd I do? Small cheats....once in awhile...then more and more frequently until carbs became a part of my everyday life again. Now I am back to square one and I don't even want to let people know that I am LC'ing again because I just get so sick of hearing about it. I figure if I can lose 20 lbs I will be at a good goal for me. Thats 5lbs up from where I originally set my goal, but I don't want to look guant either. I have always had an athletic type build naturally, so maybe thats why I looked so thin to people. My own advice is going to be to ignore the comments this time. I'm only going to listen to my own mirror.

Thanks for that advice, Jade. The only problem is that I cannot find glutamine. Is there any other name for it? I assumed (when I bought it) that chromium was the same as chromium piconlate (which is what I bought). Is that right?

I originally lost 35 pounds during the first few months of starting atkins and was powerwalking/jogging 6 miles per day. I stalled for 5 solid months despite strict lowcarbing and exercising. Took a sedentary job that exposed me to harsh chemicals and whammo - became extremely sick. During that time, I regained 30 of those pounds back while still following a lowcarb regimine - except for the lack of exercise. I have recently quit that toxic job, started powerwalking again, got some meds for the thyroid and looking forward to losing that weight again and getting healthier. I am taking lots of goodies right now. Doctor has me on a liver detox program where I am using Ultra Clear. Full of vitamins and supplements.

Best Wishes to ya [/color]
