Imitation crab meat

I heard this was high in carbs. Can't find it on ******. Anyone know the carb content. A chinese place by us makes a casserole with cream cheese, mayo, imitation crab meat, shrimp and some celery. My DH loves it and eats alot of it when we go there (once a week). I wonder if this is causing his stall?

It's kinda seafood so I thought it would be low but I may be wrong... Is it possible?

It's made of fish and fillers so yeah it is higher carb than I would prefer to eat. I think the last time I looked it was about 7 or 8 grams of carbs per serving and I'm sure the serving is quite small. Next time at the grocery take a look- it could be causing his stall.

It's FULL of starch fillers..the last time I found a carb count for it, it was about 17 per half cup...so not something you want to eat..besides..real carb tastes sooooooo much better.

Lets not forget it has alot of sugar too!!! Each brand has a different count.

A few in my family used to like one that had like 14 carbs for 3 sticks (the 3 inch stick).

White fish, flour, sugar... OH MY!

yeah, but they do taste awesome...
especially the little pieces wrapped with bacon slices at the chinese place...

I go maybe once a month, if that often, and I do indulge in a few of those, knowing full well what I am getting myself into.

I vote for real crab too. You could always make your own with canned crab meat, or just wait till maintenance and have one once every couple of months as long as it doesn't trigger anything!

I do remember looking at the store after I read that you are not supposed to eat it and it had sugar as one of the ingredients. I think the recipe sounds yummy though and I may go get some canned crab and try it myself. Thanks...

Tim, Try the canned crab meat. That stuff is fantastic! Use it all the time. LC crab cakes and hot dip! yum yum yum. One place I buy from too, the house brand crab is cheaper then tinned tuna.

I'm actually planning on buying some when I buy groceries this weekend...gotta wait for that paycheck first, unfortunately. Such is student life...living on paycheck to paycheck...

Back on topic, this sounds like it would go really well on a salad with some lemon juice spritzed over it...but since I'm new to this Atkins diet, I don't really know if lemon juice is okay to have (especially during this induction phase...).

Right there with you Tim. I'm BROKE. My bill now is staples only. Basic ground meats, vegetables and butter. Buying cream for my coffee, or some cheese is my "splurge" at the moment...

Originally I went by Atkins 72'. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Dr. Atkins does allow the juice of one lemon (per day). I think it's with the first group of vegetables you're allowed. I'd look it up for you, but I'm afraid that book was one of the things that vanished in the latest move.

I should probably get a book myself anyway...all my information comes from either the net, or my uncle (he's lost over 100 lbs. on this diet).

I'm pretty excited to try this out, as I've been craving crab meat for awhile now...but I didn't want to mess up my induction!

Imit Crab = serious carbs! Full of sugars and starch fillers. Great tasting but not low carb friendly.

Tim, I ordered several Atkins books from Amazon for less than $4 each ( including shipping ) by buying the used ones. They were in great shape. In the meantime, our public library has copies of all the Atkins books too, so you might want to check that out? ( Free!)

^^ same thing happened to me!

I lived on this stuff when I was eating low calorie and low fat - I thought it was the food of the gods. I would make delicious salads with this, chopped celery, chopped cucumber, a little miracle whip and lemon juice.... And then when I became aware of carbs I checked the label - YIKES.

Funny thing is, I absolutely hate real crab. But the imitation crab is so yummy to me. I still have a half portion every once in a while.

This stuff is produced from starch and sugar so although I love it...I do not eat it.

I used to eat a couple of these when I would go out for sashimi buffet @ the japanese restauant--- until I read the carb count on them one day in the grocery store, I was so surprised. To many carbs for me, the real stuff tastes better anyways.
