Cinnamon and Weight Loss

Hi All,
I started taking cinnamon yesterday and believe it or not, I dropped 1 lb. Right now I am taking one teaspoon a day. I let you know what happens with this. Also cinnamon is suppose to help people with low thyroid.

I actually shake cinnamon into my coffee a lot. I don't know if it helps with any loss but it sure helps with Maintenance or at least, something does.

I just take cinnamon in powder form. They say that it is just a s good as the extract form.

I put it in my coffee and I like to mix it in cottage cheese. I am going to try cream cheese next time with my sweetner.

I think I will try that cinnamon thing as well, sounds like something fun anyway. and hey if it works, then that even better. I think I will add mine to my tea in the morning and see what happens. I will let you know if there are any results that i notice.

I haven't heard about thermogenic properties (like cayenne pepper) but supposedly it HAS been proven to help regulate blood sugar levels and is listed as a recommendation on the Diabetic's website for such.

I love it in coffee, yogurt & tea. You can also add some to soups & casseroles for a mystery ingredient (you can't really taste cinnamon, there is just something "different" that you can't put your finger on!) it's great.

Do a google search on "cinnamon health benefits" or something like that. I've never heard of artificial cinnamon? you want the real spice.

well its not artificial, its just a different plant. either the sticks or the preground is really not cinnamon, its something else that just happens to taste like cinnamon, ill look it up...

Does anyone know whether real cinnamon is used in cinnamon gum? My pack of Dentyne Fire gum states "cinnamon" on the front, not "cinnamon flavored". But all it says on the back of the pack is "natural and artificial flavors". It doesn't state "cinnamon" on the back. And if there is real cinnamon in the gum, when you chew it does the cinnamon get into your system through your saliva, because after all, you can't swallow the gum itself. And how much cinnamon would you actually swallow?

Common variety sold - Cinnamomum cassia

real - Cinnamomum zeylanicum

its not the same spice, but apparently its close enough that they both have the same whatever it is that makes them good for blood sugar.

I add 4 hard shakes of this to my Starbucks coffee (1 ounce heavy cream & 1 packet Splenda), and just love the flavor it gives it!

Gum usually uses concentrated cinnamon oil.

I have used cinnamon in spaghetti sauce before. If you get a sauce that is very tangy, too strong of a tomato bite, you can add a small bit of cinnamon to cut the flavor. You can't taste it, but it enriches the quality of the sauce. Good in chili too. Just remember, you don't want to add enough to flavor the dish, or it could overpower it.

Cinnamon: a common spice has been found to triple insulin's ability to metabolize blood sugar, or glucose, according to research conducted at the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. Because of this ability, cinnamon protects against diabetes, reduces hunger, and helps control sugar cravings, thus making it easier to control weight.

Garcinia Cambogia: Also known as Mangosteen Oil tree, contains a biologically active compound which is known to inhibit the synthesis of lipids and fatty acids and lower the formation of LDL and triglycerides. Garcinia also contains significant amounts of Vitamin C and has been used as a heart tonic. Research suggests that this natural extract may also inhibit the conversion of excess calories to body fat. Additionally, appetite is also suppressed by promoting synthesis of glycogen. Glycogen is the stored form of glucose, one of the body's primary sources of energy. Increased glycogen production and storage is the body's normal way of signaling the brain's satiety center that enough food has been eaten.

Guggul: also known as Commiphora Mukul and Guggulipid, is a very effective herbal medicine for controlling obesity and cholesterol. My mom puts a cinnamon stick in with her coffee grounds when she makes a pot of coffee each morning. I had some yesterday and it was very very good. I will have to tell her about the health benefits.

Just reporting on my weight loss from taking Cinnamon. I lost another one-half pound yesterday. I've only been doing this for two days now, but it really seems to be working. Also it seems to be helping me concentrate better. I really believe this will help all of us on this diet. I have not craved any sweetes at all, which is amazing. for Cinnamon

I am trying to figure out how to fit 1 teaspoon of cinnamon into my diet each day. I drink 2 cups of coffee each morning and I could put some in there. But I don't really eat any sweets, except the occassional cream cheese/peanut butter/sugar-free syrup concoction. I don't eat plain yogurt or cottage cheese. And someone said don't eat it straight. So any other ideas of how to consume it?

One more question ... does it have to be consumed in one sitting to be beneficial? Or can it be spread out thru the day?

Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The effect, which can be produced even by soaking a cinnamon stick your tea, could also benefit millions of non-diabetics who have blood sugar problem but are unaware of it.

The discovery was initially made by accident, by Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland.

Volunteers with Type 2 diabetes were given one, three or six grams of cinnamon powder a day, in capsules after meals.

The active ingredient is not in cinnamon oils. But powdered spice can be added to toast, cereal, juice or coffee.

maybe check a health food store or see if netrition can get it in the capsule form if you can not find enough ways to consume it otherwise. Ingesting dry cinnamon powder by the teaspoon can cause nose bleeds. McCormick ground cinnamon is especially strong. I would not advise eating it plain in dry form.
