Sigh...Some things never change!

My mother sent me an email today asking about my weightloss...it's clear my sister told her I have not been exercising enough and this is how my mother addressed it:

Quote:
You really don't have an impossible amount of weight to loose, and when you work a few good carbs into your diet you will have a lot more energy and feel a lot better, so you can feel like doing some exercise.
LOL...this doesn't even bother me any more....she means well, and the old low fat/high carb habits die hard. The part I find the most amusing is how she supported my father in eating that darn Hunza Bread, but she won't support LC????

You know what? Any time I have gone on a diet before my DH has bugged the heck out of me. "Why are you losing weight?"
"Who is the guy you are after?"
All that crap.
This time...not a negative word.
He went out and bought me really nice cuts of pork, beef and chicken.

You know that you are doing what is right for you...don't let even your Mom sway how you feel.

What's Hunza bread?

Doncha hate it when family talks about ya behind yer back? Why is your mom interested in how many carbs you imbibe anyway? I just find that type of interest almost too smothering, but oh, well, I suppose they all mean well.

This is a WOE, and all you can do is take it day by day and not be too hard on yourself. So what if you *only* exercise 3 days a week. Wow! That's already better than a heck of a lot of other people out there (like me). Maybe later when you have more time and energy you can up it, but only because YOU want to, not because they guilted you!

Mom (and SIS) have not swayed me one bit, except I do need to excercise more (ok, any exercise would be good any this point!!).

Steph, Hunza Bread is some bread that is supposed to be an appetite inhibitor...surprisingly, my dad did lose weight eating ONLY this several days a week. Here are the details, purely for entertainment value:
--------------------------------------------------------

Is there a painless way for people to lose weight? Yes! HUNZA DIET BREAD is being hailed as the weight loss method of the century. The bread is a duplicate of a 2,000-year-old recipe used by the little known civilization of Hunza. It is a natural and powerful appetite inhibitor.

The Hunzas are considered to be the healthiest people on earth. Their bread is the main part of their diet. This bread is absolutely delicious. Everybody loves it. But then a startling discovery was made. Just one or two slices of this bread would suppress a person's appetite for 4 to 6 hours! Could this be a designed bread invented thousands of years ago?

There are facts being uncovered that support a theory that this bread was designed in ancient times for the express purpose of tiding people over when food supplies were scarce. Let's start with the Hunzas who are exceptionally trim, fit and the healthiest people on earth. Many consider their bread to be one of the main reasons for the extraordinary health of the Hunzas.

HUNZA DIET BREAD RECIPE

Hunza Diet Bread is a delicious, dense, chewy bread that's very nutritious and is almost impervious to spoilage. The following recipe makes a huge batch of approximately 60 (sixty) 2 inch squares, high in protein, vitamins and minerals.
Keeps weeks at room temperature, even longer in the fridge and indefinitely in the freezer. The recipe for this wonderful bread is as follows: -

* 4 cups of water
* 3.5 (three & one half) to 4 pounds of natural buckwheat or millet flour
* 1.5 (one & one half) cups of canola oil
* 1.5 (one & one half) cups of natural unrefined sugar
* 16 ounces of honey
* 16 ounces of molasses
* 4 ounces of powdered soya milk (half cup)
* 1 teaspoon sea salt
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 2 teaspoons baking powder (non aluminium)

Hunza Diet Bread has a taste that is very satisfying and chewy all on its own, but you may also add if required, apricots, raisins, chopped walnuts, almonds, sliced dates to the above ingredients. Mix ingredients. Grease and lightly flour cooking pan(s). Ideally use baking trays with about 1 inch high sides. Pour batter in pan(s) half an inch thick over the base. Bake at about 300 degrees farenheit (150 C.) for 1 hour. After cooking, dry the bread in the oven for two (2) hours at a very low heat - 90 degrees farenheit (50 C). After it is cooled tip out and cut into approx 2 inch x 2 inch squares. Store it wrapped in cloth in a container.
You may need to repeat the baking depending on the size of your baking pan, and oven, until all the mixture has been used.
Hunza Diet Bread is made from natural buckwheat or millet flour. It is rich in phosphorous, potassium, iron, calcium, manganese and other minerals, as nothing has been destroyed in the preparation from the wheat. Thus it contains the essential nourishment of the grain. This is why you must ONLY use natural buckwheat or millet flour to make your own Hunza Diet Bread..... Good luck and good health .. bon appetite :-)

Suggestions to lose weight with HUNZA DIET BREAD There are many ways to do it. This is another benefit. It's flexible. Here are some typical plans. Each piece of bread is thinly spread with butter for a total of approximately 100 calories.

Plan A: Eat 1 piece every 5 hours of the 16 hours you're awake. That's 3 pieces which total 300 calories. This is the fastest way to lose weight I know of. It works faster than any high protein diet. Why? You have more energy and burn more calories. Second, the high fiber bread keeps your digestive system regular. Third, your body stays healthy. A healthy body means a properly functioning metabolic system.

Plan B: Really gorge yourself with the bread. Two pieces every four hours for a total of 8 pieces but only 800 calories. You'll feel full all day. In fact, I doubt many people could eat this much of the bread.

Plan C: Eat a piece in the morning for breakfast and a piece 3 hours before your dinner and you will eat a great deal less.

Plan D: Eat a piece of HUNZA DIET BREAD, 10 minutes before you eat your regular meal. When we do this we eat only a fraction, such as 1/4 of what we would normally eat. If we wait longer than 10 minutes we don't want to eat at all.

Plan E: Eat the bread at the end of meals that don't fill you up enough, such as low calorie meals. This is a perfect way to use the bread. You eat a low calorie meal, enjoy it, then eat a piece or two of bread to fill you up. Perfect! No suffering and no urge to snack.

Plan F: Alternate Plan A, B, C, D. We recommend an alternation of the plans, but some people who just want to get the weight off as soon as possible will use Plan A exclusively.

That's a LOT???? Gee, to me, "gorging" would be two LOAVES of bread every 4 hours!

*sigh* What some people won't do....

Wow that Hunza bread sounds absolutely decadent, what with all the sugar, honey and molasses! Makes me want to rush over to my freezer and eat an Atkins Endulge ice cream bar!

That is funny how your mom would support your dad doing such a hokey thing, and not support you when there's lots of research to back up your WOE.

How were the Hunza's or their predecessors able to get those type of ingredients, as well as canola oil, cinnamon, soya, etc., 2000 years ago?

Did this Hunza bread actually work for your dad? Did your parents make the bread themselves or did they buy it from the local Hunza bread distributorship?

Did you try a piece? What did it taste like?

You know Bethany...that post kind of makes me glad that I'm an only child and my Mom lives like 600 miles away.

My mom is much more sympathetic now that I am smaller than she is. She used to harp on me about being so big when I lived at home...I think I freaked her out yesterday though. They (mom, dad & grandma) are going to stand in line for a flu shot tomorrow. She told me that she was going to take some Little Debbie snack cakes to munch on because they were going to be in line such a long time. I actually TOLD her that I thought there were some better food choices she could make and she shouldn't be eating all that crap. I don't think she knew what to say...gotta love turning the tables on 'em.

You all said it, SPOUSES, why do they think if your trying to get some lbs off your on the prowl?? baffles this girl everytime I cook up eggs, eat my most beloved pork rinds, pull out the soy protein isolate I would get my "right act read".
Now my spouse just excepts it, kinda, he will actually go out and buy me pork rinds, before it was oh my those things make you smell
My spouse is like your mum, he will never support me on the LC deal, he sees it works, but feels its a silly fad diet.
Like others say, do what makes you happy

My Dad used to yell at me....After he had his open heart surgery, I was his evening caretaker. I was the one cooking dinner. I always tried to make something "healthy" and something I could eat too. When he started feeling better, but still could not be left alone, he started cooking. He is almost 80 and does not know the difference between a carb or protein. So when he cooked, it would be almost all carbs and I would not eat.
He was yelling at me for not eating (like I look like I don't eat )
I tried to explain the carb thing, but it was fruitless. At least now he respects the way I eat and stopped criticizing me. My sisters are very good about supporting me, as are my friends. My DS (he's 17) is always watching to see that I eat low carb.
