What do I do when I'm throwing up?

I think I"m in a deep ketosis, I woke up this morning and was so weak I couldn't even take a shower then I felt so sick to my stomach, I threw up once. I feel so weak and I tried to eat a piece of cheese but I'm just not hungry. What do I do? I'm at work and I don't want to leave. Help!!!!

Funny you should bring this up because I almost threw up lastnight and I'm feeling a bit this morning. I ate some yogurt because I wanted something in my stomach...
I haven't checked my strips in awhile because I don't have any in the house...but I've been eating clean.
I'm afraid to take my multi vitamin until my stomach settles.

I know, I'm afraid to eat or drink anything!! I don't want to throw up again. If I remember correctly I think this means you are in deep deep ketosis. But I don't want to feel sick anymore so I want to know what I can do to stop this feeling! echhh...

Sorry to hear you're feeling sick. I, too, get that weak, light-headed, nauseous feeling when I first start out - which is why, honestly, I cannot ever seem to make it past day 2!! I always give in.

Potassium pills seem to help with the muscle aches.

By the way, you look so familiar!

Sorry you feel sick.
A couple questions. Does this happen to you when you are in deep Ketosis? Do you have a flu bug? Are you taking your vitamins?
Sometimes it is hard to tell when you are first getting sick. We have been sick here for over a week.
If it is diet then I think it should get better if you eat some dairy.
Just my thought on the problem

I hope you feel better.

I really do think it's because I'm in deep ketosis, but I just don't want to be sick anymore. I ate a piece of cheese but then threw it up! I' just feel like poopy!!!! Anybody know how to get rid of this?

Yes, this is deep 'real' ketosis! Your body is fighting really hard for you to GO BACK to sugar! Sugar is the easiest fuel, body fat is the hardest ... your body ALWAYS wants the easiest route!!!

Here's what to do:

1) If you can, hang in for 2 more days, the 'conversion' should be complete by then. The nausea is replaced with a 'no thanks, I'm not hungry' feeling.

2) If you can't (or don't want to ... some people can't take deep ketosis), eat some carbs. Depending on the type and quantity, you could be out of ketosis by tomorrow morning.

Keep in mind that part of the 'icky' feeling in 'real' ketosis is the stuff being released that has been stored in your body fat (old medications, birth control pills, estrogen in body fat, etc.)

You Poor Thing

I would try a cup of decaf tea, sip on some water, if you have some sugar free jello, that would be okay too. Nothing is worse than throwing up meat and cheese... I would try little sips of clear liquids (bouillion, sugar-free jello, decaf tea, water)... You don't want to risk dehydrating yourself further.

Have you been drinking your water religiously? I got sick on Atkins a few years ago, you can dehydrate yourself pretty quickly with this WOE if you aren't drinking enough water.

I hope you feel better soon, try and stick it out!

I feel your pain, LOL! I was in 'deep' ketosis my entire weight loss period.

When people ask, "Kimmer, you didn't eat very much, weren't you hungry?" I can honestly say, "Uh, no ... I wasn't hungry at all!!!"

I thought to myself lastnight...boy I feel sick, maybe I'm preggo. then I realized I'm not even dating anyone right now...so that would be immaculate conception. Ketosis is a much more realistic diagnosis.

LOL, wow, a honest-to-goodness miracle, right here on the BB!

If you're at work, take it easy ... sip tea (or diet 7-Up, something with bubbles). Your body is fighting hard to get you to pick up something with glucose or fructose ... instant energy.

The kicker is, if someone stays the course (makes it past the 'ickies'), their body is PERFECTLY content with burning body fat. This is when you read stories of really fast weight loss.

Keep in mind that your body always wants the easy route. Its most important goal is self-preservation. Our bodies LOVE being fat. Body fat means it can survive famine. The reason we become more efficient at exercise is so our bodies use less energy (body fat and food).

What is your goal image? Your body's goal image is Jabba the Hut. Honest.

Hahaha Jabba the Hut- I was thinking a little more along the lines of Halle the Berry !

I have the next 2 days off...so that is great! I have a hair appointment as my only commitment. I look forward to the rapid fat burning stage!

Halle Berry ... you know, it's just not fair to look that good! When I was in my weight loss phase, I had 'goal photos' on my fridge. Her pic was there!

If anyone is concerned with 'starvation mode' (I don't have the energy to argue that right now, LOL), eat bites of protein during the day (spoonfuls of tuna/chicken/egg salad, chicken bites, steak 'fingers', string cheese) ... no need to push it.

One of the saddest mistakes I see on the BB are people who feel 'icky' in deep ketosis ... and then eat carbs. They'll post that they instantly felt better, so their bodies 'do better with more carbs' ... 'their body needed carbs'. Wrong. Their bodies craved sugar and they caved in. Many of those people are still fighting the same weight from 3-4 years ago.

If you're bored today (or tired during the conversion), re-read your DANDR on the sections regarding ketosis. Read the symptoms and the promise is ... rapid weight loss!

So the icky, headache-y, nauseous, no energy feeling is just a phase, right? I mean, this is not how you feel the whole time your carbs are low, right? I'm an expert at STARTING Atkins (I've probably started hundreds of times), but terrible about staying on it because of how bad I feel.

I'm going to trust you on that Kimmer.

I have no intention or desire to eat carbs at all...this is a miracle in itself.

My only "guilty" feeling stems from the fact that I haven't been able to execise vigorously for the last few days. I've been doing pilates...but that is it. I know I'm going to be burning fat without cardio...but I want to ride my bike to work on a daily basis and it is a uphill ride. I guess I'll get my strength back eventually.

The "severe" aspects are temporary, but you'll always have a "ummm, no thanks, I'm not hungry" feeling.

Read the comments of people from Stillman's (original, not the FF cheese dessert folks), water faster, 3 Day Experiment ... any plan where the carbs are very, very low ... they ALL report IDENTICAL ketosis symptoms (nausea, fatigue, foggy head, etc.) It can't just be a coincidence?

Best bet is to hang in for 5 days (or 3 days past when the 'ickies' start). Conversion should be complete, then you can see how you feel.

PS - The best time to ask yourself how you feel is when you're standing on the scale!

When was the last time you ate? Try having a fat/protein light snack before bed. I believe for most people, blood sugar swings can be common first thing in the morning, so having a "balancing" snack before bed may help if that's the problem. Try a stalk of celery with 2 tablespoons of cream cheese, or 1/2 an ounce of almonds or something like that.

you may need to listen to your body and just say no to food to much today. You might really have a touch of a bug. Ofcourse i dont know how long any of you have been doing this, but I never got sick doing this. I have had headaches and such. Are you trying to dump caffiene also. It might just be to much.

Again, im really wondering if there isnt another reason for your illness. Perhaps you should go home and take a sick day, rest and sip diet sprite. Eat a sf jello. Eat what your stomach says to (trick it with the sf jello if its calling for sugar).

Rest. Get your body over this.

Good luck,

Liz

I feel better too!

I went to my hair appointment and walked all the way home without stopping to eat though...my first meal of the day was at 9am and I just had my second meal at 4:30. Both meals were yogurt. I just wasn't hungry.

Infact that small amount of food has got me stuffed!

I made a stew tonight that I plan to eat in a few hours...hopefully it will go down easy!

In case anyone stumbles across this old thread, I just want to point out that this person faked their 'weight loss period' and scammed people out of millions. Refer to the 'fascination with kimmer' threads for information about the class action lawsuit!

You freaked me out finding this old post in the main lobby! I will agree though, I have been here... not hungry, nauseated, light headed. Ketosis is a wonderful thing to take the hungries away, BUT when my calories got too low, I. did. not. lose. one. freaking. ounce.

Sorry for my newness to these boards, but how does one from a support message board bilk that much $$ from it's members resulting in a class action lawsuit? Is there a thread I can read about it? Thanks in advance.
