Hi Becky

My latest attempt to save money is to buy 1/4 of a cow. I have a friend that does this every year. Next order she is going to call me. She also splits a buffalo with another friend on occasion. I just need to get a bigger freezer before she calls

Don't know about all of them, but my Super Walmart will match ANY other stores price in the same weeks current flyers! Groceries included! Meat too. Just be sure to list the prices on a sheet of paper and bring your flyers in case they ask to see it. Usually only ask for flyers if an item is half the price of theirs!

it only happens around here right before thanksgiving. So I have to get them while they are on sale. Closer to Christmas, ham gets cheap. Time to start buying those now.

I thought I'd post a couple ideas.

Eggs...if you can find a local farmer....try to buy from them.

We don't have cheap meat prizes either. Even at thanksgiving...turkey was 69cents/lb. My only saving grace is...my MIL raises beef...and we raise a couple pigs at her farm. It's MUCH easier to have meat in the freezer. The only meat I actually buy is chicken.

BUT...getting many meals out of it is the trick. Debone...make stir-fry's....make oozing cheezy casseroles....make soup. (all with LC veggies of course)~

Freeze. If you are the only one in the family doing LC~then make yourself LC portions for when everyone else is eating pizza. LOL~!

That's how I fail. I plan...then don't follow the plan when tempted by that stuff...and I've decided to start anew with tips from what I've just posted.

I plan on using the OAMC strategy. I'm cooking like a week's worth...then freezing it. We just got a seal-a-meal thingy for christmas. (MIL~don't ask)~so maybe it will help me. If not...I'll freeze smaller portions in baggies.

I hope what I've posted helps someone...somehow. I hope to also help myself...by re-reading this when I lose focus.

Bumping for more ideas. I know some of this is old, but prices on certain things are always cheaper than others. Prices in general may rise, but eggs and tuna are probably always going to be cheaper than steak. You know?

I am trying to talk my husband in to letting me get some ducks. They lay eggs like chickens and eat bugs. My garden could use the help.

Ah, see now...you're a woman that is thinking this thing through! You'll get rid of bugs organically, fertilize your yard organically, feed the ducks organically and get organic eggs to eat.

LONDON BROIL ....

For me, there is ALMOST no reason to get any other cut of red meat. The prices are always reasonable, and lasts several mealtimes. I like London Broil and it is often on sale for less than $2/lb.

I still haven't bought the 1/2 cow yet....can't afford a freezer yet, but I did find something interesting. SHARE Colorado Online -. I'm not sure if this is available in other states, but their meat prices are very reasonable. I placed a small order for pick up on the 23rd. If it's good, I will place larger orders in the future.

King Soopers often has 'buy one get one free' deals on their meats. It is an excellent value

SuperWalmart is now carrying Laura's Lean Ground beef in limited quantities in the meat department. Buy yours now and support the spread of her product for better consumer prices.

I caught a clearance sale at King Sooper yesterday. 1lb tubes of ground beef for 99 cents each. I have enough for a couple of weeks now

I will look for that stuff next time I am at Wally World. I didn't notice it the other day though.

At Wally's, it's $3.50 a pound, and worth every penny. The flavor alone is so much better. We spend more, but we have to have organic meats. Luckily, WalMart and King Soopers are good places to shop for them.

I ordered from the SHARE program back in December. That was really nice. We bought Christmas dinner for $25.

My order for February is 2 lbs of perch fillets, 2lbs of turkey tenderloin and a pack of pork chops. The perch is $3.75/lb...not great, but it is hard to get perch in general and I really miss it. The best bargain is the turkey tenderloin - only $1.63/lb.

I received turkey medallions in my order. I used those to make the LC pot pie. Quite yummy!

We purchase all of our meat from a local farmer. Much cheaper to buy it that way however it is an expense all at once.

I wanna live where you do..I can't find london broil here in East TEeas for less than $3.99 a lb and that's when it's on sale - it's normally much more! I can live on that stuff!

The sales around here seem to run in a rotation of some sort. $1.99 London Broil comes up about 3 or 4 times a year. So does $1.88 chicken breast. A couple of weeks ago I got round steak for $1.69/lb.

Regular prices run from silly to obscene. When there is no sale, we live on ground turkey ($1.59/lb)

I've used Share food for about 2 years now. I've always liked it. The herbed turkey is the best IMO! Except, I end up giving away most of the fruit and potatoes and onions and such. I buy enough of the packages to get the meat we need for the month, and end up with waaaayyyy too much of the stuff I can't eat and hubby won't make it through in time. It works out though, cuz there are several people at church that appreciate my "leftovers".

well the ducks haven't laid yet, they are being stubborn but the chickens started laying last week. My dad had them and said they hadn't laid in a long time because he wasn't feeding them the right food so we went to the store & bought laying pellets for them and voila...EGGS! They aren't all laying yet but we've gotten almost a dozen since they started!
