Need mixed drinks suggestions...
This Sat I am going to a big party and will probably want to share in the festivities. I need some ideas of what type of mixed drinks I can have. I'm not a big mixed drink person, more a beer drinker, but I just don't have the urge to drink beers this weekend. I guess if that's all I can have then the Michelob Ultras and Miller Lites (my fave) will do. I just don't want to have that bloated feeling. I've had Rum-n-Cokes/Diet Cokes before, but does rum have sugar in it? Any other yummy mixed drinks you can suggest?
TIA!

What stage are you at? I have strawberry daiquiris - only if they are using real ingredients though. Ice, rum, strawberries and limes. NO SUGAR. any vodka/bacardi/gin with seltzer is OK. Bacardi makes a rasberry version, which is great mixed with seltzer.

My fave right now is sugarless Mojitos...mash up some mint leaves with Splenda and juice of half a lime, add rum, ice and a splash of soda water. Garnish with mint leaf. Mmmm. Also diet orange soda with vanilla rum...tastes like a creamsicle. I've been avoiding beer and red wine completely...it's usually the diet soda+rum for me at bars.

Hello!
I have been tempted to try the Bobs maragrita mix online here. it has good reviews... have you thought of that before? they also have a pina coloda mix that you mix rum with. they both sound Really good! Other then that , you can try diet 7up with segrams 7... make it a 7and7. or to add taste, diet cherry 7up. |

My husband drinks diet tonic (MUST be diet) with vodka and lime. I have sipped it and it is fairly tasty, if you like tonic.
A friend suggested Diet Rite (lemon lime or orange flavor or something, can't remember exactly) with tequila and swears it tastes exactly like a margarita.... |

All hard liquors (rum, gin, vodka, whiskey, etc) are zero carbs- just be sure to mix with diet soda, Crystal Light, etc. All liquers (Kahlua, Baileys, etc) are loaded with sugar- stay away. Also things like peach schnapps and triple sec. Good rule of thumb- if it tastes ok with nothing mixed it probably has carbs.
Did try this- No Carb Margarita Mix tequila, a little DaVinci orange syrup, and lemonade Crystal Light. Pretty close to the realy thing. Haven't tried blending, just drank mine on the rocks. Cate 206-192-155 |

My new FAVE drink!
I am not much of a mixed drink person but a bartender who lost 25 lbs on the atkins diet made me a drink on vacation this week that was GREAT. It was Stoli vodka strawberry, seltzer and just a splash of cranberry juice (just a splaash!)

Spiced rum might be a problem. Hard telling what they put in that, and it is lower alcohol for the voluem so something else is in it, but regular rum should be OK. Although I read a reference somewhere that Dr. A. recommended "clear" liquors over brown but mostly the brown comes from aging barrels so I'm not sure what was up with that.
As noted many times alcohol slows weight loss because it gets used in preference to anything else. But for an occasional thing like a party that's a case of "noted & accepted". As an experiment I am on day 4 of a three week zero alcohol period to see if weight loss resumes at a higher rate. Had been having a couple drinks almost daily for a long time (bourbon or Miller lite). Even though I don't like aspartame at a party I will have rum & diet coke for the caffeine. Stayed at Caesars Palace in Vegas once and while waiting in huge line to check in a waitress came by with a huge tray of them and I could swear she was calling out "Roman Coke - Roman Coke - complements of the house for waiting so long". ![]()

Why is it when ever I read anything on this topic it grabs my attention?
Tried the sugar free lemon aid and vodka (lime was all I had around) last weekend instead of my old stand by of beer. Was so good with the hot weather. And I was in shock, it hasn't slowed the weight loss down like the occasional beers do. |

If I'm home (or somewhere BYOB), my new favorite is raspberry Stoli & diet 7up. Guy at the liquor store told me last night that the strawberry is even better, though.
If I'm out, it's rum & diet coke. I don't like club soda or seltzer, so I'm outta luck with my usual vodka. Also, vodka with Crystal Light pink lemonade is good. Toss in the blender with some ice & you have an instant slushy. |

My favorite is "Hard Lemonade" (perfect for these hot days)... I just take Crystal Light Pink Lemonade (make it strong) and add Vodka w/ a twist of lime. You can also throw in ice and use a hand blender to make it slushy. Hmmm... I dare you not stay sober on these!
For variations on this, add fruity extracts or DaVinci Sugar-Free Syrups (the above w/ the SF Rasberry is particularly good). |

Oh hey - this won't help you for the party probably, but i did find a recipe I used to use to make homemade Kahlua that could be adjusted for LC. Myself, i would use decaf since I'm still off the caffeine.
Sugarfree LC Kahlua 1-fifth of 100proof Vodka 4 cups sugar** (replace with splenda equivalent) 4 cups water 1 tblsp. chocolate syrup(sauce)** (use Sugarfree equivalent) 3/4 cup instant coffee*** (replace with decaf) 1 whole vanilla bean(cut into a couple 1inch pieces) 2 large glass jars with lids(big apple juice jars etc., no smaller than 1 quart size) Mix water and sugar(or splenda) in a large saucepan, simmer for 15 minutes(cover pan). Remove sugar mix from heat , slowly stir in Vodka, chocolate syrup and instant coffee, mix thoroughly. Divide the vanilla beans into jars, pour Kahlua mix into jars, put on jar lids tightly. Leave jars covered for at least 2 to 3 weeks.Shake jars every couple days, to maintain mixture. recipe disclaimer: try this recipe at your own risk ![]() Now, you can make a mudslide with your sf kahlua, the hazelnut davincis, vodka, and cream. Serve over ice - yum yum yum Last edited by TaDa!; 08-14-2003 at 07:51 PM.. |

Yum, lots of good ideas here.
Becareful with cream, it's 1 carb per tablespoon. Martinis are a good option, just be careful what you put into them when you make them sweet. |

Be careful with any alcohol--it may not have carbs, but it still stalls weight loss.
That said, I drink bourbon on the rocks, and if I'm making mixed drinks for a party, I make a homemade margarita or daquiri with real ingredients. Tastes better than any mix! For the margarita: fresh lime juice, lime zest (a great trick--it adds lots of lime flavor without any carbs), splenda to taste, lots of ice cubes, and tequila, all blended in the blender. The proportions depend on how strong you like your drinks. For the daquiri--a cup of strawberries (for several drinks), splenda, lime juice, rum to taste, lots of ice cubes, and a tiny bit of heavy cream (say, 1 tablespoon per serving), all blended together. The cream makes it a real treat. Everyone loves these, and you don't need to tell people they're sugar-free. |

You know a super easy one is Vodka and tea add splenda to sweeten. It's smooth and refreshing. Be careful though...the tea hides the vodka and they go down fast. I have had many a hang-over from these!!!

Here's some I copied from this board:
Mustang's Marvelous Margaritas Fill blender 2/3 full with cubed ice Add 1/2 cup unsweetened lime juice concentrate (the kind you buy in the green plastic thingy) Add 1/2 cup water Add 1/2 cup Splenda Add 1 cup tequila (more or less to your taste) Blend on high until mixture is smooth Serve in wide brimmed glasses with or without salt Top with 1/8 squeezed fresh lime and Enjoy! ------------------------------------------------------------------ Pina Colada (Alcoholic) 1/2 cup ice 1 teaspoon pineapple extract 1 ounce DaVinci Gourmet Natural Coconut Syrup 1 ounce white rum Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth and frothy. Serves: 1 @ 65 calories, 0 grams fat, 0 grams protein, and 0 grams carbohydrates. ---------------------------------------- Lemon Margaritas (Alcoholic) coarse salt or Splenda 1 tub Crystal Lite lemonade drink mix 8 ounces unflavored sparkling water or seltzer 3/4 cup tequila 1/2 cup fresh lime juice 1/4 cup DaVinci sugar free orange syrup 3 cups small ice cubes Dip the tops of 4 margarita glasses in water. Dip each glass top into either coarse salt or Splenda, as desired. Set aside. Combine all the remaining ingredients in a blender and process until slushy. (Pulse works best.) Carefully pour the tequila mixture into the margarita glasses and serve immediately. Serves 4 @ 105 calories, trace fat, trace protein, and 3 grams carbohydrates I've tried Mustang's Margaritas and they're excellent!
