Help!
I can't believe I am writing this. I tried Atkins a little over two years ago with great success. I lost 55 pounds in about 6 months. Besides the weight I felt so much better! My allergies all but disappeared, my headaches, fatigue were all gone and my clothes fit!
Enter stressful move and months of unemployment and I fell off the wagon and gained it all back. Now I am the EXACT weight I was when I started. I never went back to my "old" ways entirely, but it seems IMPOSSIBLE for me to get motivated and stick with induction for more than a few hours never mind 14 days!

I would really love to have a pen pal who is in kinda the same place for some emotional support. I really would like someone committed. The last time I had a pen pal here, she disappeared after 2 weeks.
Sigh...I feel so desperate and ashamed of myself, I really would like to get past all of that and get back to feeling good again!! But right now I just feel like some ben and jerry's ![]() |

Lakelight:
To make a commitment, you have to be ready mentally, emotionally, physically. To do induction, successfully, you have to first pick a day to start. How's tomorrow for you? Then, you have to assembly the induction information. Go to www.atkinscenter.com and download the rules of induction, the acceptable foods list and anything else you need. Then clean out the kitchen. Toss everything that does not fit with your new way of eating (give it away to the neighbors if you can't stand the thought of throwing a five pound bag of sugar and an unopened jar of peanut butter into the trash). This step is easier if you live alone or if everyone in the household will join in the new WOE. Otherwise, rearrange the cabinets and the refrigerator into acceptable and unacceptable shelves. Label the shelves, if there's a chance you might forget. Now, time to shop! Take the acceptable foods list, scratch off anything you absolutely refuse to eat, and get yourself to the store to lay in provisions for induction. Tomorrow morning when you get up, begin. It's not more complicated than that. If you are ready, you'll be able to do induction, one meal at a time. If you aren't ready, you'll find another excuse not to start. So, you have to ask yourself, am I ready? And if the answer is "no," then ask how much longer do you need to beat yourself up before you ARE ready? No one else can take that first step for you but we will support you on the journey.

Of course you are right, but it is helpful to see it in black and white. I have started and stopped many times. I just can't seem to get back into the same mindframe I was in 2 years ago, when I was completely dedicated. Hubby can't do the diet and most of my friends are of the "atkins is bad for you" ilk, so I am not really finding any support in real life and was looking for some support here. I think this week is going to be it. Good point about throwing out all the food in the kitchen that's bad for me and labeling shelves. That has been a BIG issue in the past! Luckily this week the post office is doing a food drive! Yay!
I think I also get hung up a lot on starting on a Monday and then when that doesn't happen, I'm like "oh well, next monday then." |
