Fast Food Junkie
Hello,
I am a Fast Food Junkie. My cooking consists of quick meals with little preparation time. I am too old to change and doubt if I will be cooking full course meals anytime soon. I have a busy schedule and believe in convenience food. I have been in the Low-Carb “try out” stage for about two weeks. I decided to move into the “let’s get serious” stage yesterday (Saturday). I am looking for a pen pal who is motivating, has close to 100lb to lose, and understands why I clean the kitchen a few times a week, because it does not get used. I recently heard about the Protein Style In-N-Out Burger, I think it will become my best friend. I NEED HELP, -Karen |

Hi, Karen!
If you don't already have a George Foreman grill then get one. The smallest grill is pretty cheap now and the thing cooks fast, fast, fast. Hamburger patties or chicken breasts or steaks will be ready very quickly. That's a necessity with me because I am ready to eat the minute I walk through the door in the evening. I like my steak medium rare. I throw it onto the grill when I walk in the door and by the time I feed the dogs, change clothes and get back out to the kitchen, the steak is ready. Don't short-change yourself by thinking that you cannot have a great tasting meal unless you turn on the stove and spend an hour preparing it. Bagged salad is a God-send and you don't have to wash or tear the lettuce. Just invest in a good quality plastic bag to keep the left over salad in so it doesn't wilt before you can eat all of it. Good luck with your new way of eating. You can do it, girl!

I have the George Foreman Grill and I must say I LOVE it. I also use the crock pot but not much. My problem is that I always made sandwiches. Quick and easy with a little mess. With this new way of eating, I need a bread substitute. I think I am going to try the Lettuce wraps and see how that goes.
Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. |

KMac--
I haven't yet discovered a suitable bread substitute for sandwiches. I did make up a couple of loaves of Atkins rye and sourdough breads (not allowed on induction) in the bread machine but only made one sandwich out of it. The loaves came out high and dense but short, if that makes sense, and were hard to cut into 15 (as if!) uniform slices. The very first slice of bread, the heel, was tasty warm out of the machine with gobs of butter but I ended up using the rest of the bread to sop up egg yolk or to dip into broth. I decided it was a better option to just get reacquainted with a knife and fork than try to make a sandwich out of all those misshaped pieces. If you grab sandwiches at fast food restaurants and toss the bread, you will soon discover how little meat there is in those things. I could not get full from the "filling" alone. Let me know how the lettuce leaves work for you. |
