I am 280 lbs and growing--need PP for encouragement
I am 46 yrs old and am 280 lbs. and growing. I need help. I know I have to put effort in helping myself and I am open to anyones suggestions on how to get started.
If I go to this computer instead of the refrigerator I guess that would be a good start. My husband is overweight too. With my success I think he will want to lose weight too! ![]() DesertRoseQueen--Have a good day and evening!!!!!!! |

Hi There!
Hi Desertrosequeen!
I live in the desert too! I am a 45 yr. old married Mom of 2 in Las Vegas, NV. I have been doing Atkins for one year and love it! (today is my one year anniversary) I love this WOE! I started out at 222 lbs. have been heavy all my life and NEVER thought I could get rid of the pounds until I found DR. Atkins. I have lost 64 lbs. and feel great! This WOE isn't hard to do. Once you get past the first 2 weeks you begin to lose your cravings for sugar and carbs. I was determined to eat right and be healthy. Have you started low carbing yet? If you have any questions about induction or anything I'll try and answer them for you! Read the book, it will tell you everything you need to know too! I was so sad to hear about Dr. Atkins unfortunate accident. I hope he pulls out of his coma. He is such a kind man. I hope we can become low carb buddies. I feel support really does help when your trying to lose weight. Talk to you soon! YOU CAN DO IT!! You can also email me at walkingforlife@mail2runner.com I check that everyday. Sometimes I don't get a chance to check this site. Hope to hear from you! Hugs, RitaStarted 4/15/02 5'3 222/158/140 ![]() |

Hi Desertrosequeen: I am 46 and 260 lbs. I lost 2 lbs over the Easter weekend. I also need a pen pal. I get so discouraged and depressed at times. It seems so overwhelming. But I am so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. I am going to start induction tomorrow. For the last couple of days I have been trying to limit my carb intake. I am going shopping today to get some food for me. The rest of my family are skinny. My husband hasn't a clue what it is like for me. If I find any good recipes for induction I will email them to you. I need all the encouragement I can get. I really want to be able to do more things with my family. I feel my weight really holds me back. And there are things I just can't do any more because I am so heavy. I know I am an addict. I know also when I limit my carbs I feel so good. Its just getting over that first 3 days. Take care Please keep in touch.

Hello
Hello Joje,
First off my name is Donna (DesertRose) I have been overweight all my life and I am 46 yrs. old. To make my story short and brief. I was an abused child and put up for adoption. My adopted mother verbally abused me. She constantly told me I was fat and ugly and nobody (a man) would want me and that I would never amount to anything. I married to get away from home and that marriage lasted physically 4 yrs. 11 months (on paper a long 11 years)and I have been married to a wonderful man for 11 years this coming June 6th. Food I thought was my comfort. It was my best friend, I thought. I thought you were supposed to Live to Eat, not Eat to Live. You feel like you are trapped. You are treated differently than thin people. Thin people get waited on first. One will ask or say: "Are you pregnant?" " Your face is so pretty, but only if you could lose some of that weight." Boy can children be so honest with their comments? -"Why are you fat?" or when you are out somewhere and you hear a child tell their Mommy- "Hey Mommie Mommie look at that fat lady". Etc, Etc......Please forgive me but I am PMSng today. I better stop for now. It is all Mind over matter................... If ya don't have a mind----it don't matter. I just got the Dr, Atkins book and am going over it very carefully. I like what I am reading. I removed all the bad foods from the house and told my husband that he is eating this way too and if he wanted to cheat he would have to do it elsewhere cause this time I am going to DO IT----for me. Welcome to this new way of life. I hope you don't mind hearing from an older person (I had my 47th birthday this month). I am glad to hear that you both you, Donna, and Sandy have decided to give this a try. As Rita said, the first couple of weeks are the hardest. Actually the first few days are really the worse. But once you get past that, you will start to feel great. I have been doing this for four months, lost 38 pounds. I have type 2 diabetes, low thyroid problems and I too have been heavy all my life. My husband saw how much this has done for me and he decided he wanted to do it too. He has lost 20 pounds and although he cheats (guys always seem to get by with that) he is still very supportive. The best thing to do is follow the plan exactly the first couple of weeks, don't add anything to the allowed foods, not the bars or muffins or anything out there for treats. They are meant for later, not for induction. Drink your water, it really is important. I felt lousy for a couple of days but after I worked my way through that, I started to feel better than I have in years. My family couldn't believe the energy I had and how much housecleaning I was doing. The payoff? I am under 300 pounds for the first time in years, since my baby (now 12) was born; my sugars are under control; and I feel like I can do this. After decades of having doctors tell me I just needed to eat less (when I felt I was starving half the time) or that I just needed to exercise self control (right), it is so good to find out that there is hope and I am not alone in this. I would love to keep up with the two of you. If you would like to email me, it is

Hi Donna: Sorry i have been so busy. I finally have some time to my self. I was also abused as a young child. Totally blocked it out of my memory until my 20's. I had a terrible first marriage. But I have been with a wonderful guy for 16 years. We have 2 kids. He is very supportive but also skinny. He only worries about my health. He never bugs me about losing weight. When I was in university I was diagnosed hypoglycemic and the docs told me that I produce too much insulin. Oh but they forgot to tell me insulin makes you store fat. So that is my story in a nut shell. So are you reading the book. I have lost 4 lbs. Only 96 to go. I guess that is better then putting on 4 lbs. Yesterday I made egg salad and tuna salad and rolled them up in romaine leaves like a taco. And sometimes I make up burger with spices and roll it up in romaine leaves. Also go to the recipe board. So how is the weather there? It snowed here yesterday. This has been a very long cold winter here. I think that is part of the reason I was so depressed this winter. Anyways I have got to go. Please keep in touch. You can email me at jojesama@aol.com Take care and let me know how you are doing. Sandy

HI all!
So glad to see our thread growing with new people! It is nice to meet you Karen and joje. We are all in this together and together WE CAN DO IT!! I feel low carb eating is the BEST way to lose weight and it really isn't hard to follow. Granted I "cheat" once in awhile but always get right back on track!! I agree with Karen. Don't eat any of the low carb muffins, bars, bread or candy untill you get closer to goal. I made the mistake of eating the Advantage bars and the Carbo lite candy bars and they made me stall for 8 weeks. Once I stopped eating them I saw my weight go down again. I have been on this way of eating for a year now and still pretty much stick to the induction program. Seems that if I up my carbs I don't lose. I guess everyone loses differently though. Well, I wish you all a great low carb week! It is terrific to have the support that these bulletin board can give us. And it is always great to meet new friends! Hugs to you all, Rita ![]() |

I'm Addicted
Hey, this site is cool. I am getting use to it now. I can't wait when I get up in the morning to run to the computer and get all my messages and read all the new posts.
I have a really good question for you all. When you first started your lowcarb diet, did you detox your system. In other words, did you have to constantly go to the porcelin goddess (the bathroom)? Is my body flushing out all the unwanted fat? I sure hope so. Oops gotta goooooooooooooo! Donna DesertRoseQueen |

Hey Everbody: Yes Donna that is all I have been doing. One night I must have got up 10 times to pee. Now I am making sure I drink my water earlier in the day. I was even having dreams of peeing. Did you guys see Oprah yesterday. WOW! She had on some big losers that had done it without surgery. They all used different things that worked for them. Iam not doing the Atkins diet. I have tried it and I can't stick to it. I am doing the Carb Addicts diet. I bought the book of sis in law for Christmas. She lost 40 lbs. That was her goal. If you guys can do, I applaud you. I find the low carb easier for me and my life style. I know I will proably won't lose as fast as on Atkins. But my hard time is dinner. SO if I can have a normal dinner with the family I don't feel as I am missing something. Everybody have a good day. The weather is great here. It is almost warm!!!! Take care Sandy

TGIF!!!
Hi everyone!
Joje- I have been low carbing for a year now! I am doing the Atkins program and have lost 65lbs. I feel great and have so much more energy than I had a year ago! I'm sure the Carb addicts diet works just as well as Atkins. I think if everyone just cut way down on carbs they could lost weight. I didn't get to see the Oprah show but I bet it was inspiring! Donna- Yes you will have to go to the bathroom ALOT on the Atkins program. It seems like you have to go ALL the time at first, but then you get used to it. It is very important though to drink LOTS and LOTS of water!!! I try and drink 200 oz. a day!!! Wishing you all a great low carb day! Rita |
