Looking for a vegetarian low-carber...

...or am I all alone trying to combine vegetarianism with low-carbing?

My reason for being a vegetarian is that I used to be a vegan, eating an ultra-lowfat diet, for two years now. Being vegan was mostly an ethical consideration, but in order to finally lose weight (AND be satisfied with the food I eat!!!) I have decided to re-include milk products and eggs so I can do low-carb.

I'm also financially challenged, so low-carbing is a true hassle - or maybe that just appears so to me because I'm so new to it! I've been on it for about a week now. Feeling great, doing fine, but I could use a little (easy-to-do!) variety in my diet and a nice penpal who's facing the same kind of difficulties, as a vegetarian, would be really really welcome!

As to myself, I'm 22, single, currently 146 lbs. heavy and looking to lose at least 30 lbs. (I'm fairly small).

I hope there's someone out there...

Sounds like you change your mind a lot on how you want to eat. Thats fine and all but atkins is not for vegetarians or pregant women. Veggies are too high carbs to eat your fill to be full and met the carb requirement or less.

No Offense to anyone but atkins CAN be done by veggies!!!!!! I was doing it last month, I went one month and lost weight--and ate no meat. YOU CAN DO IT!

Please send me a PM and maybe I can help. there is also a webgroup (I can't remember the name) for vegetarians doing lowcarb.

Good luck!

I also wanted to say that there are A LOT of veggies that are NOT high in carbs like spinach, lettuce, cabbage, green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, mustard greens, tomatoes (within limits), black olives, cucumber, and onion. That again is not true!

If you have the info for that web group, I would love to see it. I am on day 3 of induction and a 12-year vegetarian. I finally joined my "meatatarian" husband who has lost 40 pounds on Atkins. So far I am fine, maybe a little bored and wanting a doughnut, but hanging in there.....
