~♥~ YES WE CAN! ~ Jan 2009 ~♥~

~*~ THE RULES ~*~

1) You must be ready for CHANGE and able to Keep Promises to Yourself.
On the 1st of each month, we must each declare the following information:

a) You must choose a WOE and stick to it for at least One Month. Provide the basic details.

b) You must choose an Exercise Plan … and Just Do It!
(or declare that Exercise is not a part of your current plan)

c) You must choose an article of clothing (i.e. blouse; pants; bra; swimsuit) and on each Wednesday, along with your Weight, report on the Thread, “how” that article of clothing "fits" you. You may also report your Measurements, but only if you choose to do so.

d) You must decide & declare if you will post your Daily Menu/Exercise/Water consumption. Because we will hold you to it!

2) You must answer Teresa's "Question of the Day"!

3) You must NOT be a “slave to the scale”!
Accept the fact that our weights fluctuate daily, even up to 5 lbs each direction, and ... get over it! The scale canNOT tell the difference between muscle, fat, fluid ~ so it’s NOT the best indicator of success! So, no whining re: stuff like: "I gained 3 lbs yesterday", etc. Because THAT is just NOT physically possible (unless you ate 10,000+ calories)!

4) You must recognize that Friendship & Support & Accountability are fundamental elements of Success.

5) You must promise that, if you mess-up, you will get back on plan at the next meal, NOT the next day, week, month.

6) You must be able to give/receive constructive criticism and/or a good kick in the butt when need be! With no hard feelings!

7) You must have a good sense of humor … and be able to laugh at yourself, even when it hurts!

Hey! I'm new at this. Of course, it's New Year's Eve and the same old resolutions pop out at this time - losing weight being at the top each year. So, I decided to join this site and one of the stats is current weight. I hopped on the scale and read 217 - changed the batteries and found that it still displayed the same number. How did this happen? That's 35 more pounds than I was when I was 9 months pregnant with my last child! Now it's time. And perhaps I overlooked the tight pants, heavy breathing, and lack of energy, but this cannot be overlooked!
So, count me in! Rule #3 will be trying at times, but I believe that I can follow all the rules above. Let me know what I do next!

WOE: CTFLC
Morning and Happy 2009 all.

WOE - CTFLC - with my tweaks which are: Whole eggs not whites, and I do not do low fat. I limit my fat eaten with carbs, otherwise I do not do low fat. I'm not going to jump through hoops to get EZ bread (a staple in the CTFLC diet) but will make nutritionally similar choices. I know I may not get the same results with my tweaks but any WOE has to be liveable and that is what this is to me. I will start on Monday so as to be on same week as others starting this.

Exercise - I am starting the Couch to 5K. Provided my knees and shins can take it.

Weight/Clothes - I was 189 this morning. I will weigh once a week. I have a pair of size 12 tan pants that is my tight clothing. I can button (barely) but no zip.

Water - 60 oz day minimum. I will post menu/exercise/water daily

Hi HB, Kim, Lora, Jeanne and Alberta and everyone else yet to post!

Happy New Year 2009!!!!!

1) You must be ready for CHANGE and able to Keep Promises to Yourself.
On the 1st of each month, we must each declare the following information:
a) You must choose a WOE and stick to it for at least One Month. Provide the basic details.
My plan is Atkins, I'm at the top of the Carb Ladder so all good carbs are in my plan. I will start watching my calories a bit to help with the portion distortion ~ the numbers will be 1500-1800 calories a day and a range of 60-90 carbs.

b) You must choose an Exercise Plan … and Just Do It!
(or declare that Exercise is not a part of your current plan)

My exercise plan is:
Weights 3X a week
Cardio 3X a week
BOSU, Yoga or Jillian Michaels 3X a week

c) You must choose an article of clothing (i.e. blouse; pants; bra; swimsuit) and on each Wednesday, along with your Weight, report on the Thread, “how” that article of clothing "fits" you. You may also report your Measurements, but only if you choose to do so.
Got it, a pair of jeans. And I've captured my measurements and have my start photo saved.

d) You must decide & declare if you will post your Daily Menu/Exercise/Water consumption. Because we will hold you to it!

I'll post my stuff, actually I created a Fitday account that I'll use to keep track of my calories, carbs and exercise. I have made it public and added the link to my name in my siggie...so you can see my daily input and output !

No problem, I hate the scale! BUT, I do respect it and I will weigh myself on Wednesday to make sure my plan is working!

One of my favorite pastimes!

Wheeee, I am so ready for this!

Oh, and my starting weight is up from November...sad to say I added 10 pounds over the month long festivous! I'll be changing my stats today.

~*~ THE RULES ~*~

1) You must be ready for CHANGE and able to Keep Promises to Yourself.
On the 1st of each month, we must each declare the following information:

a) You must choose a WOE and stick to it for at least One Month. Provide the basic details.
My WOE is LC- 30-50 carbs per day. I am not going to track macros right now. I just want to get back on track with eating right.

b) You must choose an Exercise Plan … and Just Do It!
(or declare that Exercise is not a part of your current plan)
I plan to exercise at least 30 mins. on mon-tue-fri-sat. No specific plan just move more.

c) You must choose an article of clothing (i.e. blouse; pants; bra; swimsuit) and on each Wednesday, along with your Weight, report on the Thread, “how” that article of clothing "fits" you. You may also report your Measurements, but only if you choose to do so.
I don't have my measurements here at moms but I may post them later. As for an article of clothing. dh bought me a juniors sweatshirt for christmas and it is very tight. So that is my article of clothing right now.
d) You must decide & declare if you will post your Daily Menu/Exercise/Water consumption. Because we will hold you to it!

I will post my daily menu/exercise/water when I get my computer fixed. Until then I will write it all down and bombard you with it all at once.

Thanks again HB for starting the thread and fixing the rules.

As for yesterday I am very proud of the fact that I was totally legal LC. I didn't put anything in my mouth that was not lc. I went to dh sisters house for a while and everyone brought pizza. I had the toppings off of one piece and I stopped and bought me a salad on the way home. It was great and I didn't feel deprived. Everyone else had pineapple upside down cake (my favorite) and applesauce cake and i had an atkins bar. I felt like I had climbed a mountain.

We got home and went to bed around 10pm. DH had to work today. I am on call so needed the sleep. I am so excited about the new year. I have decided that 2009 is about new beginnings for me. Not just my weight but everything in my life. I will BBL!!!

Have a great day all!!!

Jennifer You didn't see me this morning? I posted. Boo hoo I know I am not that small by no chance Glad you were thinking of me though

I am doing pretty good I had a protein shake for lunch, I know not much but I have to look at the book to see what I can have. I already done my 75 crunches.
I told hubby no more buying food unless we are out of something I looked in cabinet that I really don't get in much I had some Wolfgang Puck pancake mixes. I wanted to make DH his pancakes for tomorrow and put in ref. for tomorrow. Being whole wheat the flour did not look that good so I had to toss them all out, 6 boxes of them.
I have 100 punces of water down already too and ready for more.

Hi A, Thanks for the welcome!

I just got back from 2 hrs at the dog park with Connor. I was frozen, but he didn't want to leave... bribed him with a turkey jerky treat. Connor is a Gordon Setter and Alaskan Husky mix. Gordon Setters were bred to be in the field all day as hunting companions to the Highlanders of Scotland and Huskies pull dog sleds across the Arctic. He lives up to heritage and is very high energy!!! I once made the mistake to put a harness collar on him... He was dog and I was the sled!

I will be going out of town to see my sister in WV tomorrow. So, I may not be back online until Monday. I may be able to check in some time over the weekend, but don't count on it.

I'll definitely be back online Monday.

Take Care!

Low-carb, 25-35 net, watching calories for now and will adjust that in a few weeks, whole foods - nothing processed for the most part. I do have about 1-2 cans of diet coke weekly and use stevia in my coffee.

I am currently ramping up after being totally absent from exercise since August. My current plan is to Nordic Track Mon-Fri. I am starting out with 5 minutes and will add 5 every week until I'm doing 20 hard minutes. At this time or sooner I am adding in weights for the upper body. I am also starting a weekly yoga class on 1.15 that lasts 10 weeks. At that time I will add in 1-2 sessions of Callanetics weekly. I will post changes to this routine when changes are being made.

A BIG Happy & Healthy New Year to Everyone!

Welcome to FreshStart; Kim (realityjunkee); Lora (LoraJR72); Jeanne (ragtopwife);
Alberta (Lbertas); Shelly (sheshy); Jennifer (gynx8467); NewMe12; DaisyGG !!!!!

Liz (telemetrynurse) will join us in late-Jan when she's back from visiting her in-laws in Lebanon !!
Plus a few others may join us too, but as agreed, let's strive to keep our support group "small & intimate".

FYI, I'm Diane/HB (hummingbird11) & these are My January Goals:
(PLEASE HOLD MY FEET TO THE FIRE, TOO!)

1) I'm READY for HEALTHY CHANGES and READY to Keep Promises I Make to Myself.

a) WOE: Wendy Chant's "Crack the Fat Loss Code" (CTFLC) for 8 weeks starting 01/05/09.

Like Jeanne & Alberta, my tweaks are: whole eggs (not just egg whites) + I'll continue to eat whole & organic foods (as much as possible within budget) + I'll continue to avoid refined sugar & HFCS (while limiting AS) + like Daisy, NO processed foods or cured meats containing nitrites/nitrates - not sure yet re: low fat (CTFLC).

b) EXERCISE ~ I commit to:
10 min Ab Work 5X per week;
20 min HIIT Cardio 2X per week;
30 min Upper Body Strength Training 2X per week;
60 min Callanetics 3X per week
(+ I take my 4 dogs on an almost daily walk/hike)

(Jillian Michaels 30-Day Shed is "on hold" until after my appt w/ Orthopedic Surgeon on 1/6 to determine if MRI on 12/26 indicates torn meniscus or bruised bone?)

FYI, I'm currently in Physical Therapy (PT) 2X's per week for a compression fracture & osteoarthritis in my lower back. So I must approach all exercise w/ caution and will be striving for low to zero impact Exercise (such as Callanetics).

c) Weight/Clothes:
I'm at 166.6 lbs (up 11 lbs from early Nov) & I'll weigh once a week on our Weigh-in Wednesday.
My swimsuit will continue to be my "measure of success" ~
today it fits a bit too snug w/ too much cleavage + my upper arms are fat & jiggly.
I'm a size 12 on bottom & size 14 on top. Wanna be a size 10 all over!

d) Starting 01/05/09, I'll post my Menu/Exercise/Water/Wine daily.
My initial goal is 64 oz of water per day,
once I'm consistent with that, I'll increase to 80 oz per day,
with an ultimate personal goal of 100 oz per day.

Like Alberta, I will re-start drinking a warm glass of water w/ 2T of fresh lemon juice each morning w/ my daily supplements. I'm also going to re-start ACV 3X's per day (+ Lymphomyosot for my Lymphedema).

2) Teresa will not be joining us at this time, so who'd like to do the "Question of the Day" in January?
(we'll rotate this task monthly and I'm happy to take February!)

3) I will NOT be a “slave to the scale”!
Due to changes in muscle, fat, fluid (esp my Lymphedema) the scale can be very discouraging for me.

4) I recognize that Friendship & Support & Accountability are fundamental elements of Success.

5) I promise that, if I "mess-up", I'll get back on plan at the next meal, NOT the next day, week, month.

6) I promise to give/receive constructive criticism and/or a good kick in the butt when need be! With no hard feelings!

7) I have a good sense of humor … and I'm usually able to laugh at myself, even when it hurts!

8) I'm going to stop smoking (again).
I have a very addictive personality (genetic) & the pain pills (Percocet) that I must take daily (just to function) really make me wanna smoke. Not only do the pain pills stimulate a deep craving for cigarettes, they also destroy my resolve to “not smoke”. I’m 45 years old and I’ve been smoking on & off since I was 13. I smoked a lot in my teens & my twenties (mostly with booze/drugs), I quit in my early 30’s, re-started in my late 30’s, quit again at age 41 (when I was diagnosed w/ Ovarian Cancer), re-started in October 2007, quit again in January 2008, re-started in Sept 2008 (when I had a Bone Cancer "scare"); and I'm committing to quitting again (for good this time) by Jan 5, 2009. Next week on 1/7, I'm seeing a new Internist (mine left her practice to work at the hospital) and I'm going to ask for help with the pain pills (is there something else I can take?) and the cigs (nicotine patches?) I grew-up in a "smoking family", most have quit by now, but we're all addicted...forever. I hate cigs + I really HATE the control that cigs seem to have over me & my life!

This is going to be difficult for me, but I do NOT want to develop lung cancer (like my Mom did) or emphysema, and really don't want to drag around an oxygen tank in my retirement years! Thank Gawd my Mom is still alive, she is a (very rare) 5+ year Survivor of Small Cell Oat Lung Cancer. (She had only a 20% chance to live)

You'd think THAT would be enough to make me quit for good, but the (legal) nicotine in cigs is so addictive

9) I want to drastically decrease my coffee consumption; I'm at about a pot of coffee per day!

10) I will practice Intuitive Eating: What is Intuitive Eating?

So! Onward & Upward to Success, my dear LCF friends!
Let's make 2009 the year we ALL conquer our internal demons & unhealthy cravings.

Together, we can do this, YES WE CAN!

XO,
HB

I had the toppings off of one piece and I stopped and bought me a salad on the way home. It was great and I didn't feel deprived. Everyone else had pineapple upside down cake (my favorite) and applesauce cake and i had an atkins bar. I felt like I had climbed a mountain.

We got home and went to bed around 10pm. DH had to work today. I am on call so needed the sleep. I am so excited about the new year. I have decided that 2009 is about new beginnings for me. Not just my weight but everything in my life. I will BBL!!!

Question of the Day:

Do you make New Years Resolutions? And if so, what is you most success resolution?

Thank you, Shelly!

All of my 2009 New Years Resolutions are up in Post #17!
But no, I do not typically make them, because I never keep them!
But that is changing TODAY!!!!!
Those are destined to become my most successful NY's Resolutions!!

Not often. I make New Year's Goals--resolutions are so hard to keep. Goals are often obtainable.

I do, every year. Mostly my yearly resolution is a general reminder to be tolerant. And a reminder of don't complain - don't explain. Listen!

Accountability time!

Today's menu:

B--2 eggs, 5 bacon
L--HB patty, 3 jalapenos stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon
D--2 slices ham and scalloped eggplant
12 blackeyed peas for 12 months good luck!

Overdid the cheese today--it's my downfall!

Ran 2 miles and walked an additional 2/3 mile today.

I am wearing my express jeans and they are feeling ok. Can't wait until they're too big!

Ok, where is everyone---it's time to check in for the day!!!

LOL !! I made that same resolution to hubby last night !!

Bless his heart, he's so patient with me. Says it "doesn't matter". But it does matter!

This could be TMI (sorry!) but apparently I'm suffering from something called "vaginal atrophy" (due to my bout with ovarian cancer & chemo, etc) and every time we "do it" ... it feels like I'm a friggin' virgin again !!!!!!!!!!! PAINFUL lemme tell ya !!!!! I'm hoping the doc next week can help with THAT too. This has been going on for waaay too long...3 years !!
