![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks Nancy!I got it. Morning all! I did a lot of soul searching last night and on the way to work this morning. I decided that my goal for February was not to lose weight but to learn.
I know I can do it. I just have to find myself right now. Not sure what that is going to take. I will check in later. |

your DH! There you go...your support is at home too! ![]() OK, so all of the big bosses are out of the office...so it's really quiet. I'm going back and forth about working from home today. I'd love just stay in my jammies and not have to move! I'll have to check my work calendar first... Food-wise - DD made spaghetti and meatballs last night for dinner (I had the meatballs and sauce)...it was delicious, she did a great job! She's been interested in cooking and baking more lately because she says "I need to learn how to do this stuff before I move to the dorm/apartments at college" - and HEY, who am I to say no? I LOVE it when folks cook for me! As long as it's on plan stuff! ![]() Other than that, I've got to get busy and make my breakfast and lunch...but, if I work from home, I don't have to...hummmm, another advantage of working from home *thinking, thinking* ![]() Studying is going well...I've been taking a practice exam after each chapter I read to make sure I'm "getting the methodology" and I've been getting scores in the mid 80%. So, that's good. I'm happy and would be thrilled with a score like that! Exercise-wise - I'll be doing cardio today. If the weather holds, it'll be an outside hike up Mt Peak...that's a good one! If it doesn't hold...then most likely I'll be on the treadmill. Oh and speaking of the treadmill, it lives...the dang thing hasn't died on me for weeks (dang). So, I my visions of a new TM are in my distant future instead of near!! ![]() Question of the Day ~ Do you feel you over or under committed to your exercise routine? What are you thinking about doing for February? ![]() ***

Ok this is me "LEARNING". How accurate are the carb counts on the low carb friends sight. Are they net carbs or not?
What about eggs? carbs or not!!! |

If I have a recipe, I enter it myself and validate the "counts". If it's a store bought item, I use the information on the package. So, to answer your question...it's up to you, but it's safer to at least verify the information. About the eggs, I'm getting .39 grams for a large egg, on the carton is says <1 gram and on another site I visit shows .60 grams. The rule of thumb that most use is to count as 1 gram if it's questionable. But, honestly I don't know why they're all a little different. Maybe the gram count of the actual egg is slightly different. |

You had me in (happy) tears this morning! You ARE gonna do this; and it's gonna be EASY. Because when you do Dr A's plan correctly, You're gonna LOVE what you're eating AND the weight is gonna melt off you!! HOW COOL IS THAT ?? ![]() It's just gonna take YOU focusing on YOU -- that's it. ![]() although it can be tough sometimes; it's so very necessary. Quote:
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL & SYMBOLIC AVI ~ I LOVE IT !! ![]() OMG I'm in love with your DH!! ![]() What a wonderful & supportive man!! So there you go! You have the support of your loving DH (other primary provider & home owner) to only buy LC foods to keep in the house! YOUR CHOICE. ![]() Oh Jen, I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU !!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and hey, what's good for you is good for them! junk food is no good for them anyway. YOU call the shots now; for you & your family (food-wise). So other than the random tater you can shop LC!!Which, as you realize: LC means to mostly SHOP the PERIMETER OF THE STORE Your basket should be filled with fresh veggies & quality meats. That's it! Easy, huh? ![]() For at least the first 2-weeks, make sure you have 3 dozen eggs in the fridge at all times! With your family, maybe 5 dozen! ALWAYS have a dozen eggs hardboiled & ready to grab as a snack. A HB egg + an ounce of cheese + an ounce or 2 of lunch meat -- has saved me a zillion times!

OK ~ this is me "TEACHING" (so listen up!)
![]() Yes, Eggs have "trace carbs" (what does the egg carton say??) I count 1 Carb for each egg BUT you can count .5 Carb for each Large Egg. (Extra Large Eggs have more cal/fat/protein/carb per egg) NOW PAY CLOSE ATTENTION: Legally, all food manufacturers ONLY have to list Carbs if there's at least 1 Carb in a Serving. Soooo, if there's .25 or .5 or .75 or even .99 Carb in a Serving -- they do NOT have to list it on the food label ~ capiche?? ![]() THAT is why you hear "talk" around here of "hidden carbs" and THAT is why you are to NEVER NEVER NEVER Trust any Food Label (except meat & ACV) that states 0 Carb. NOT salad dressing, not HWC, not ANYTHING. Because it ALL has (Trace) Carbs that you MUST incorporate in your daily counts ESP during the first 2 weeks; later, you can get a little more lax about it + you'll have the Carb Counts of most things you eat (regularly) memorized!! You can Google "hiden carb calculator" and run the macros (cal/fat/protein) thru there AND run by us (too) 'cause sometimes even those calculators can be "off". Frustrating, I KNOW!! I'll sometimes compare what it says on the label with what it says at Calorie King; Daily Plate; FitDay ~ and then I go with my gut! ![]() This is why I don't use Fit Day. This is why I do my macros manually in my Excel Spreadsheet. I look at the Food Label of EVERY SINGLE ITEM that I place in my mouth. I have a digital food scale and I weigh almost every morsel that I place in my mouth. I've been doing this for approx 6 months (total) and I can tell you that I have learned a LOT. Yeah, it was a pain in the arse at first -- but now it's a habit. I know what to buy (and what not to buy) at the store because I've learned what's IN everything we like + I've learned what a friggin portion size looks like (I had no idea before) -- seriously! Often times, I will just flip the package over, to see what a "portion size" is, measure/weigh that out -- and that's what I eat. Sometimes I double it -- but that's how I do it. And man oh man -- what a learning experience for a gal that didn't even know what a "Carb" WAS last year!! ![]() Last edited by hummingbird11; 01-28-2009 at 12:41 PM.. |

I don't know what to think (yet) ![]() I have turkey, beef, pork bacon in my fridge & wanna compare. BUT how does one say which is "better"?? I mean, it depends on one's WOE. I do buy a lot of eggs. Ok since I haven't officially started Induction yet I decided to try a low carb smoothie from this place in town. I don't usually do protein drinks but everybody was getting one and they were half off for employees at the hospital. I checked out the nutritional information well. It had 7 carbs and 8 g fiber. Tell me is that good or not. If you do Atkins figures you subtract fiber from carbs right. |

that's my kinda man!!
![]() ![]() and how my man operates, too ![]() I'm so glad you have that kind of support from DH; Look around this Forum; so many poor women don't! But hey, we only "get" what we "demand" for ourselves...right? ![]() Like Dear Abby says: Ya can't be a doormat unless ya lie down and be one! ![]() And WE DESERVE to be able to take care of ourselves; And WE DESERVE the respect & support of our families. Yes, we DO! (esp if they are living under our roof, no?) YES! Total Carbs - Fiber = Net Carbs and THAT's excatly how ya do it on Atkins! 7g Total Carbs - 8g Fiber = -1g Net Carbs ![]() ![]() that seems pretty darn cool to me! ![]() but WATCH the sugars in that kinda stuff. real sugar & artificial sugar (AS) as those kinds of Carbs aren't so great for us.
