Yes and you guys need to hold me to it. My mother hurt my feelings today. She said that my diet wasn't working. That I was suffering for nothing. I really didn't know how to respond to that. I got to thinking and she is sort of right, because I can't seem to stick to anything right.

This really has to work this time. I don't know what else to do and I have to live this not DIEt

Wow, Jen. I'm so sorry.
That's tough to hear, esp from your own mother.

OK, so as Alberta notes:
Let this motivate you to WORK YOUR PLAN.
(it won't "work" unless YOU "work it")

Meanwhile, you tell her that it's NOT a Diet and that you're NOT suffering.
Jen, if you feel that you ARE suffereing; feeling deprived -- then we need to talk.

We need to find a WOE that is a comfortable LIFESTYLE for you.
Something that is NOT "hard to stick with". Forever!
(not just till you lose weight)

Because Consistency is Key.
And NONE of us were very consistent over the Holidaze, right?

But now it's practically February and definitely (over)time to BE CONSISTENT with whatever it is we're doing with regard to our WOE.

Right Ladies ??

We will hold your feet to the fire;
but you gotta hold your feet to the fire, too.
and not order Butterfinger Pies at BK
and then try to tell us, "not that much to order at BK"!
um, a bunless burger in a bowl would have been the solution.
BUT, now ya know, right?

ONE QUESTION:

in general, do you find it difficult to "stick to" Low Carb ??

Why? Are there things that you miss? If so, what?
(in addition to BF pies at BK; plz be brutally honest)

OK so it's really 4 questions in 1 !!

Jen, speaking of "working your plan"-- did you ever get a copy of DANDR?

do you think you'd like to try it "by the book" this time?

do a 2 week Induction and then Climb the Carb Ladder?

I honestly think you'd have a LOT more WL success, that way!

I really don't find it hard to stick to the plan when I have the right stuff in the house. My DD who is pregnant keeps bringing chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake and junk in the house and sitting it right there in front of me. Then she offers it to me. UGH!!! I don't know why I give in and eat that stuff. DH tells her not to offer it to me. Also he is going off to work next week and we haven't been apart that much and I am really stressed about being here without him and I know that is no excuse but when he is gone I can go to the gym on days that I work if I am not too tired after working 12 hours. I never wanted very much chocolate at all, not a big fan but here lately I crave it. Not good. I have found myself eating just sf chocolate chips.

I don't know how to get my mind back in the right frame. I have these voices (sounds like my mother) telling me that this is not for me, but I know it is.
I tell myself that I am going to do this kind of exercise and something always comes up and I don't do anything. OK tell me what is wrong with me. I need a psychiatrist or hynoptist, something. Sorry rambling out of control.

I got to take my morning walk while it was still snowing and mine were the first steps on the pristine white sidewalk. I know snow is "Blech" to many, but we don't get it back home so it is a big deal to this lil ole southern girl!

Change over to freezing rain tonight. Not so good.

I think we may actually be leaving NJ in the next day or two. I'm ready. 7 days in this little burg is enough!
We had snow last night/early morning too...it's all gone now, yea! It is pretty, but I hate the slick roads!

I'm sure you're anxious to get home!

Good for you! And WHY were there cookies on the dinner table?

This is what I think about DD (pregnant or not) and the crapola she's bringing in the house...

You have to make the choice ultimately...BUT you can be the enforcer for yourself and the food in your house! IF DD wants to eat junk food, tell her to take it to her room. Demand they respect your dietary needs...demand support, dam it you need it and you're worth it! *stepping off the soap box*

JEN!! that's a HUGE step!!
do you have SF chocolate that you can enjoy while they have their cookies??

I like Hershey's SF special dark -- it's amazingly DELICIOUS!!
5 of them are 150 cals; 13g fat; 2g protein; 4g fiber; 3 net carbs!!

please sit your DD down and explain to her WHY she is NOT to wave those in front of your face anymore ~ K?

I have some that DS kept taking out of the fridge and they melted and stuck together. They are sf chocolate chips (or where)

She and I had a long talk a few minutes ago and I am going to talk to DH when we go to bed. I need his support which he is always willing to give.

OK, well while you're at it, tell DS to keep his paws off your LC & SF food!

I know your DH will be supportive + he can help keep DD & DS in line - right?

Maybe junk food should be crossed off the shopping list? For everyone?
It's no better for them than it is for you.
Why not teach DD to make LC SF choc chip cookies?

I have tried and she refuses to do LC things. She buys her own junk for the house. I just have to learn to control it. I did explain to her how hard it is for me to stay away from this.

Jen,
why don't you "dive into" DANDR and get to reading...
THAT will place you back in the right frame of mind!
+ you didn't fully answer the questions, you're NOT off the hook missy!

in general, do you find it difficult to "stick to" Low Carb ??

Why? Are there things that you miss? If so, what?
(in addition to BF pies at BK; plz be brutally honest)

Oh and do your Exercise first thing in the morning;
then no matter what "comes up", it's already done.

How old is DD? is this her 1st baby or is DGB hers, too?
How old is DS? who else lives with you, Jen?

yes, you must learn to control it BUT sheer willpower is a crock.
my hypnotherapist will tell you THAT!
(she does phone consults if ya want her tel #)

anyway, you need their SUPPORT to be successful.
Period.

if they can't support you in your own home,
maybe they need to find a new place to live?
I'm just sayin'

Calories 1,649
Fat 131.6 1,---73 %
Carbohydrate 34.4 --- 8 %
Protein 73.1 --- 19 %

Fat (73%) Carbs (8%)
Protein (19%)

Ok I don't find it difficult to stick with the plan. Except when I read the book the only thing that he has you to keep up with is the carbs that you eat. That is easy to do. I find it hard sometimes to make the numbers match up like they should. Am I eating too much protein, too many fats, not enough. UGH!!!

I don't even think about eating crap most of the time. I usually eat my food and am full and don't want anything else. Unless I see it in front of me. I tell myself that I don't want it but it wins out.

I can do exercise on my days off in the morning. Now that my tm is working again. DH was off last week and as well as he means he wants me to be right with him when he is off.

Keep it coming ladies. I need all the help I can get.

TOUGH LOVE

OK Jen. THIS TIME I'd like you to do it BY THE BOOK. No deviations.

So when you start Induction -- on Feb 1st ??

(that gives you some time to shop/prep/cook)

No more counting ANYTHING except carbs for awhile ~ K?

Your only RULE will be to keep your saturated fat intake high (for satiety) and to cap your Net Carbs (NOT total carbs) at 20g per day for 2 weeks.

Can you do that?

But Jen, YA GOTTA WANNA and you have to read the book this time.
We can coach you and guide you; but it is ultimately up to YOU.
It's gotta come from within.

How do you want to feel in your swimsuit on the Cruise next year?
It literally takes a full year to transform our bodies.

There is still time to do a complete overhaul by March next year.
But the clock is ticking...

DD is 22 and this is her 2nd child. Yes DGbaby is hers.
DS is 21 and lazy as sin. DH has told him that he needs to get a place to live but he is still here part time. When it is too cold to sleep outside I guess. Cant worry about that. Then there is DD BF who is 23, He is the only one of the three that has a job and he pays some rent.

I would love to have your hypnotherapist's num, but can't afford anything extra right now. Thanks anything.

I pray that tomorrow will be better, but food wise did well.
Dearest Jen, My heart is broken to hear of the lose of your beloved Lab. I can't imagine how painful this must be. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I lost two dogs and I know how much it hurts and both my dogs had lived a long life. Brandywine, a Golden, lived 14 years and died of old age. Montana, my second Golden, lived 12 1/2 years and died of cancer. Both passings broke my heart.

Hang in there.... know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. I hope you and your family can find come comfort in this short poem:

"Rainbow Bridge"

"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... "

Hey Jen,

more tough love!

by Feb 1st (your new beginning) - I'd like to see your avi be more of a reflection of YOU.

It doesn't have to be your photo (tho that would be nice) but it needs to be something that personifies YOU.

Your DGB is awfully cute,, but that is not WHO YOU ARE.
And that's what an avi is supposed to be ... YOU.

An avatar is a computer user's representation of himself/herself or alter ego...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(computing)

and please update your stats (in siggy and profile) to match each other and be accurate (they each contain different current weight & goal weight)

We need to get you off on the right foot and to a healthy new start ~ K?

this is about YOU -- not your DD/DDBF/DS/DGB or even DH -- this is TIME FOR JENNIFER to be concerned about JENNIFER and ONLY JENNIFER -- K ??

Jen, you gotta put yourself first now if ya wanna be successful.
Your kids are old enuf to take care of themselves.

XO,
HB

8 REASONS WHY YOU FALL OFF THE WAGON

By Tom Venuto

read this online at
Burn The Fat Blog | The Hottest Fat Loss Blog On The Web
----------------------------------------

Clearly, we have an obesity problem in America and many other countries across our planet. Yet, I propose that we do not have a weight loss problem today.

In case you're confused at this apparent contradiction, consider these statistics:

According to a study from Oxford University published in The International Journal of Obesity, within 3 to 5 years, about 80 percent of all 'weight losers' have regained the lost weight, and often gained back a little extra.

According to research by the National Weight Control Registry, that relapse rate may be as high as 95 percent.

For comparison, relapse rates for drug, alcohol and tobacco dependency have been reported in the range of 50-90%.

This means that lots and lots of people have "successfully"
lost weight. But not many have kept it off. Therefore, we don't have a weight loss problem, we have a weight-relapse problem; we have a "not sticking with it" problem, wouldn't you agree?

In fact, the fall and subsequent weight-regain usually doesn't take years. Many people have abandoned their new year's resolutions within weeks. By the time the Super Bowl party rolls around, their diet is history!

If this is true, then shouldn't we put more of our attention onto figuring out why you haven't been sticking with your program, and what you should do about it? That's what I've been doing recently, and I made that a prime focus of my newest book, The Body Fat Solution

I also put together this new list (below) of the top 8 reasons why you fall off the wagon.

Rather than worrying about the minutiae of your diet plan, like whether you should be on low carb or high carb, Mediterranean or Okinawan, vegetarian or meat eater, I propose that if you simply focus on these 8 issues, you'll start getting more lasting results.

How? By being able to stick with whichever plan you decided was best for you!

After all, even if you have the best nutrition program in the world - on paper - it doesn't do you much good if you can't stick with it in practice!

THE 8 REASONS:

1. NO FOCUS: you didn't set goals, you didn't put your goals in writing, and or you didn't stay focused on your goals daily (by reading them, affirming them, looking at a vision board, etc.)

2. NO PRIORITIES: you may have set a goal, but you didn't put it on or near the top of your priorities list. For example, your goal is six pack abs, but drinking beer and eating fast food on the weekend is higher on your priorities list than having a flat stomach.

3. NO SUPPORT SYSTEM: you tried to go at it alone; no buddy system, training partners, family, spouse, friends, mentors or coaches to turn to for information and emotional support when the going got tough.

4. NO ACCOUNTABILITY - you didn't keep score for your own accountability - with a progress chart, weight record, measurements, food journal, training journal, and you didn't set up external accountability (ie, report to someone else or show your results to someone else)

5. NO PATIENCE: you were only thinking short term and had unrealistic expectations. You expected 10 pounds a week or
5 pounds a week or 3 pounds a week, so the first week you lost "only" 1 or 2 pounds or hit a plateau, you gave up.

6. NO PLANNING: you winged it. You walked into the gym without having a workout in hand, on paper, you didn't plan your workouts into your weekly schedule; you didn't have a menu on paper, you didn't make time (so instead you made excuses, like "I'm too busy")

7. NO BALANCE: your diet or training program was too extreme.
You went the all or nothing, "I want it now" route instead of the moderate, slow-and-steady wins the race route.

8. NO PERSONALIZATION: your nutrition or training program was the wrong one for you. It might have worked for someone else, but it didn't suit your schedule, personality, lifestyle, disposition or body type.

So there you have it - 8 reasons why most people to fall off the wagon! Have you been making these mistakes? If so, the solutions are clear and simple:

focus, prioritize, get support, be accountable, be patient, plan, balance and personalize.

Train hard & Expect success,

Tom Venuto
