ok, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong, but for our Team, I show:

Shelly
Jeanne
Alberta
Daisy
Lora
Diane (me)
Jennifer?
and maybe Liz?

I believe they only have 3 (Lisa/Lei/Teri -- Teresa will not be participating)
so Kim, I guess that means you're on their Team dang it!
but you gotta keep posting over here too!! thems da rules!!

I'm going to have Hubby figure out a spreadsheet to base this challenge on % of weight lost ~
it will NOT be lb for lb as that would NOT be fair (for them) ~
sooooo I please need everyone's weights as of January 1, 2009.

1000 Dankes!!
I was 238 on 1/1 = and do I still get to participate in the challenge if I end up not going on the cruise? DH is okay with it, I just need to check the project calender at work on Monday and I'll be able to confirm.

THANKS GIRLFRIEND!! Y'ALLS ENCOURAGEMENT REALLY HELPS ME!!

And I went the Wellbutrin route when I quit smoking. I think I only took them for about a month though...just to get through the rough patch. My sister took the other one...I can't remember the name, starts with a C. She said it helped but gave her headaches. But, hey anything that can get you through the hard part is worth a little headache, right?

RIGHT!!
HOW LONG AGO DID YOU QUIT?? I quit in 2005!!

FOR HOW LONG WERE YOU A SMOKER?? And I smoked from Junior High on, light smoker when I was younger but after I graduated I was a pack a day normally and the skys the limit if I was partying!

I am. I guess I don't mention him very much because we have different hobbies and activity levels. Plus he works a grave yard-ish shift...and sad to say his sleep patterns don't change very much on the weekends. So, he doesn't participate in very much my fun activities, so that's why you hear about DD being my tag-along partner!

GOTCHA! THAT MUST BE TOUGH AT TIMES TO BE ON SUCH DIFFERENT SCHEDULES...
...ESP AROUND THE HOLIDAYS.
BUT MAY ALSO BE GOOD 'CAUSE ABSENCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER!
WHAT DOES HE DO FOR A LIVING?? It can be hard sometimes, but luckily he works 4-10's and so we can make long weekends during the summer, so that's really nice. And I totally believe in the "absense makes the heart grow fonder" saying! He drives 18 wheeler for a petroleum company, hauling around western Washington.

I think we spend more time together on vacations than any other time during the year! Maybe that's why we've been married for 25 years, w00t!

THE SECRET TO A LONG & HAPPY MARRIAGE IS: "A BAD MEMORY"!!
(R U TAKING NOTES, MS. RECENTLY-ENGAGED DAISY?? ) THAT is so true!!!!

I don't think it'll let you put an image in your siggie.

NOPE

Good to hear you're doing well on your plan! And that's great to have the whole family involved in the plan, makes it so much easier!

YEP!! ABSOLUTELY!!
NO JUNK IN THE HOUSE TO TEMPT ME!!
DH EATS WHAT I BUY/PREPARE/EAT!! Good planning and good DH! He's a good boy!

Plans for today:
So, DD and I are heading out to find ski gloves, do some mall walking and then out to lunch. Should be fun!

ENJOY!!
HOW OLD IS DD?? She's 19!
DOES SHE STILL LIVE WITH YOU?? Yes! She's going to community college this year and will be going to The Evergreen State College this fall for the last 2 years.
ANY OTHER KIDDOS?? I do, 21 year old son! He's trying to find himself right now...I keep pushing for him to go back to school. He lives in Phoenix with his girlfriend (love her, she's great) = they're happy though, so that makes me happy!

Other than that, it's weights today and pm stretch...then studying *sigh* !!!

YOU'RE SO DILIGENT. CAN YOU PLZ RUB OFF ON ME?? I think it's just because I want to through this soooo bad!!! I'm getting so burned out! The thought of not passing just makes me shudder!!

Question of the Day ~
When is the last time you introduced a new veggie or fruit into your diet? What was it? And if you haven't in a loooong time, do it and then tell us what you tried!

WHERE DO YOU GET THESE GREAT QUESTIONS??
OUT OF THE SMART BRAIN OF YOURS?? Yea, that's it! I'll tell you what I did. I took about 30 minutes and just thought about "stuff" regarding our plans, health, exercise and just came up with enough for the whole month. Now, I just pull up my document, find the next one in line and copy/paste! Wheee...it's pretty slick! See, then the questions don't come from my foggy morning brain!

I'D HAVE TO SAY THE JICAMA FRENCH FRIES.
AND THE MASHED-CAULIFLOWER & ZOODLES (ZUCCHINI NOODLES)
THO I'VE HAD EACH B4, BUT NOT PREPARED LIKE THAT!

AN ENTIRELY NEW VEGGIE OR FRUIT??
REALLY NOT SURE...GONNA HAVE TO PONDER...
Chat later!

LATER TATER!!

as long as we lived in our home state of Texas (25 yrs)...weird.

Um, you're gonna be EATING those words on YOUR DIME, missy!!

You better think again 'bout which team you wanna be on!!
those girls over there, do they even have a WOE plan??
looks to me like they just kinda "wing it" every day!!
we're gonna kick y'all to da curb!

What exactly is the criteria? Percentage of weight lost, ala Biggest Loser? Total Pounds? Inches? Have we set that criteria yet?

Maybe this challenge is just what they need to kick some bootay!!

Oh dear! That makes me sooooooo jealous! It got up to 15 degrees here today. I know, I know, I do live in Minnesota, but man - thinking about being able to be outside and yakking with all the cool baby-chicks here really makes me green! lol

Hey - who is this other team and where do they post? I like that we're in a biggest loser-type thing. We are going to win women! Oh hella yes.

Oh and btw HB, yes I LOVE Linda Sue and her recipes. I meant in general - you link to some very good articles.

I was 189 on Jan 1st.

HB - Dogs all four dogs are Boxers. I love 'em (now that they are getting along) but it has been a long time and I'm ready to see them going home. On the plus side I've been getting a lot of dogwalking exercise (no fenced backyard). It's pretty funny really to see me go down street with four Boxers heeling me, two on each side. The suburban joggers cross the street when they see me coming!

And no afraid I'm not near Cary, NC (4 hours I think?) per say, but any NC folks who are driving to Jax will pass right by me...

Today was good.

Menu (Baseline):

M1 - Cream of wheat & eggaccino (one egg)
M2 - Broccoli/egg salad & 1/2 multigrain bagel
M3 - Alfredo Beef Tenderloin & small salad
M4 - Mocha protein shake

HB I get my deck built for my pool this summer, then we can both be outside in the Sunny Calif weather in the winter sending messages. Why did you need to see what you were typing just send what ever, we will translate it.
My weight on Jan.1 was 185 it will be lots lower WHEN WE WIN!! I am thinking of what I want to eat as I type. Kim wanna change to our team you know already which one is going to win now you don't want to have to cough up the extra cash for us do you?

I am not sure... I am still not sure I will suceed with weight loss this time around. I wouldn't want to hurt the team's chances. And I am not sure I could go on the cruise. I usually do vacations where I can take my dog. Beach house on the Outer Banks or camping... That said, if you need and want me, I'm willing to help!

Hi Everyone,

Sorry, I haven't been able to get online the past two days. Monday was my first day back at work after a 10 day vacation and it turned into a 12 hour day due to unexpected problems... The rest of the week didn't go much better. On Wednesday, my work laptop starting crashing. I was able to get restarted, but on Thursday it crashed on and off all day... by EOD it crashed for good. Friday, I was given a "laptop loaner" until my laptop is repaired or replaced. Unfortunately, the loaner does not have all the applications I need and, of course, none of my documents or sql programs that I need. In addition, the loaner is a low end model and is much slower... and of course I still have all my deadlines to meet. Hopefully I can survive until I get my laptop back (by Wednesday I was promised!)

I am still looking for a full time job. I am working as a consultant (Sr. Business Analyst), but would really like to get a permanent position. The economic environment is so uncertain, it is really difficult at this time. The company I'm working at may have an opening... If so, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, I stayed on the low carb road... ate mostly fish and cheese with a salad w/tuna fish both Thurs and Fri for lunch. I know, I'm boring, but I really like fish, salads and cheese.

I exercised Thursday, water aerobics and 30 laps. Friday, I dropped off my dog at a "doggie day care" near my office. I left work early and took Connor to the big dog park at FT Washington. We were there 1 1/5 hours... He had a great time and I got some exercise. Also, did I lot of walking at work Friday.

I plan on going swimming today (Sunday).

More later....

Questions of the Day

Question of the Day ~
Is there an activity that you want to try, but have not due to your weight or physical fitness? What is that activity?

There are lots of these types of activities. I want to go parasailing and get a scooter. The scooter I want has a weight limit less that 200 lbs. Also, I have very bad knees and suffer from back pain. My doctor thinks if I lose weight, but knees and back may be less painful. Maybe I could even go running again... Who knows... I just want to be healthier!

But, hey anything that can get you through the hard part is worth a little headache, right?

I think we spend more time together on vacations than any other time during the year! Maybe that's why we've been married for 25 years, w00t!

I don't think it'll let you put an image in your siggie.

Good to hear you're doing well on your plan! And that's great to have the whole family involved in the plan, makes it so much easier!

Plans for today:
So, DD and I are heading out to find ski gloves, do some mall walking and then out to lunch. Should be fun!

Other than that, it's weights today and pm stretch...then studying *sigh* !!!

Question of the Day ~
When is the last time you introduced a new veggie or fruit into your diet? What was it? And if you haven't in a loooong time, do it and then tell us what you tried!

Chat later!

In the past year, I have added different kinds of leafy vegetables to my salads. I really like baby spinach leaves. I also got hooked on mangos. I haven't had any mangos since before Charistmas... I am really missing them. As you noticed from my food posts, I am a stick in the mud when it comes to diet... fish, cheese, and salads with a few other additions now and then.

I just tried a new recipe today. In fact Pupcake and I were eating a piece in our office while I was cruising about on LCF.

I made a recipe I grabbed from LCF called Simple Cocoa Brownies. They were really good. Pupcake didn't even know they were low-carb which is amazing. Of course I put a huge dollop of Cool Whip on his.

and last week I made zoodles. OMG zoodles are my new obsession now.

It has been a while since I tried a new recipe. I think the peanut butter truffles frome the recipe section on here. I loved them but cut back on the splenda a bit. Almost too sweet.

Hey all I have been gone for too long seems like. I hate not being on here more often. I think this challenge is just what I need to get me motivated in the right direction. I started at 220 on Jan 1.

I have been searching for some new recipes that are not boring and simple cheap ingredients. I am so tired of eggs and chicken. Any ideas please. I am on a tight budget.

Nancy & Jennifer! Welcome to the 2010 Cruise Challenge!

More on that later...for now:

I enjoyed 2 glasses of red wine last night! Hubby went down to our wine cellar (that he built & stocked; we don't have human kidlets; remember? ) & pulled a bottle of my fav Foxen Pinot; I chose to NOT resist.

One of the many things The Big C taught me is: Life is Too Damn Short. Boy, that wine tasted GOOD and it was just stellar w/ my grass-fed steak & caesar salad (w/ parmesan "croutons"). I know it's supposed to be 21 Days, but I refuse to feel like a "failure" BECAUSE I did go 5 days sans wine, and that's quite an accomplishment for ME!
(perhaps that's another reason why it tasted so great; what a missed treat!)

I'll be doing a 2nd Deplete Week, not just because of the Wine, but because my Carb Count for the past week is (approx): 17~24~31~17~34~41~and 22 today (so far) cause I had a slice of low-sodium EZ bread w/ 3 fried eggs 4 lunch.

All in All; a Very Low Carb week (under 50) but NOT under 20 each day as per Week 1 of CTFLC; so I'll repeat Deplete Week. I'm OK with that & look forward to more Progress (& hopefully Perfection) during the 2nd round!

But no worries. I've been LC'ing long enough + I've done Atkins Induction enough times, I can almost Deplete on "auto-pilot"...KWIM?

EGGS ARE MY BEST FRIEND!!

It's just tough for me to keep it under 20 carbs a day. Hormonally, women in general just don't do well on less than 30 carbs a day. (btinc told me that) and 30 carbs was always kinda my "magic number" for VLC. But 40-60 is generally better for me.

+ btinc told me that, metabolically, there's really not much diff btwn 20-50 carbs per day. some (a very lucky few) can even get into ketosis at 50-100 carbs.

btinc was also one of the many people (I trust) that advised me "carb-cycling" is the best way to go. that's what he does, and his bodyfat % is less than 10%, I think!? amazing! I'll never get THAT low, but I'd love to get to 20%.

Inatic "carb-cycles" too, but doesn't "advertise it", since this is a LC Forum.

and of course, our beloved Watch-Me-Shrink (Twyla) carb-cycles too!

On the bright side, since I'm Depleting again (and should take only approx 72 hours to Deplete; maybe less since it's not like I have a huge supply of glycogen after last week's deplete) ~ I'm having some white wine tonight w/ my wild halibut!

might even enjoy a pear on my salad w/ goat cheese. Mmmmmmmm.
isn't it funny how much healthier our "cheat" foods have become?

But come tomorrow: no alcohol; no fruit; no sweets -- for another week.

Later Taters!!

Checking in. NOT a good weekend at all for me, food wise. All LC but still.

The last recipe I tried was this:

Low carb garlic chicken

A tasty, healthy choice for anybody trying to lose a bit of carb-based weight. Highly recommended!

Ingredients

2 tsp. oil
4 single chicken breasts (16 oz... raw weight) skinned, boned, washed, cut into 1-inch strips
5-6 cloves garlic, sliced
2 1/4 C. chicken broth, low-sodium
1/4 C. lemon juice
1/3 C. dry white wine
1/4 tsp. salt
ground black pepper to taste

Directions

In a large skillet, heat oil to medium high. Stir-fry chicken strips until well browned on both sides. Remove chicken pieces and set aside. Sauté garlic slices until soft and golden. Stir in chicken broth, lemon juice, and wine. When mixture is hot, reduce heat to medium and return chicken to skillet. Simmer a few minutes to heat through.
Serving Size

4
It was pretty good, but I would have prefered it have a cream base instead of a broth base. Other than that it was very flavorful and delicious cold as well!

Jennifer - My DH would be going with me on cruise...

HB - I'm proud of you!!! I think you have done fabulous.

Today was carb up day. Did good and bad. Did good in that I only ate good carbs during day instead of a carb fest. Bad in that I overate my starchy meal and went past full to stuffed. I know better and will do better next carb up.

We went out to Applebee's for family dinner with kids. Had good time. DD was sick again when we got home. First time in 3 days. I think she overate and it was just too much after being ill last week.

Menu:

M1 - 1/2 multigrain bagel w/PB & eggaccino (one egg)
M2 - Broccoli egg salad & 1/3 apple
M3 - Mozzarella sticks, mini-cheeseburgers
& split a dessert (large choc chip cookie w/scoop ice cream) w/DH

H20 - 60 oz

Tomorrow is carb down day so only 1 starch before 3pm.

G'night peeps!

Oh... and I have been too lazy to try new recipes lately. I like to cook and love to bake but I just haven't been able to get excited about low carb cooking. I've tried. And tried. So I stick with my boring menu. Perhaps I'll get fired up about it in a few weeks...
