Making room for me, need a buddy

I woke up one morning a few months ago and weighed myself. Not unlike any other morning, but with a surprise and not a good one. I had been hovering around 205 but not this day, 218 was my new number. I am now a little higher and have come to the realization that I need room for me. Not just because my pants are to tight, but all the time and energy I waste disliking my body and planning the next way to loose the unhappy weight. I don't have a time table. I am looking forward at a solution, a resoultion not looking back at the mistakes I have made that got me where I am, except to learn from them. I'm 34, married and have a 6 year old. I have done Atkins before with good results, but got lazy. If anyone feels the same and would like a buddy to have accountability with let me know. I am done waiting around to start the rest of my life.

Thanks for the welcome Wendalina. Your girls are wonderful!!! I always scoffed at the idea of getting support, but I have tried everything else, so why not this......
And yes, your kids are exercise, especially 3 of them.

dont laugh... it will totally help you, especially if you have questions about something that is a good food or not or recipes or even to talk you out of eating the crap foods again

are you married? do you have kids? those things sometimes kinda make it a little more difficult, but it can be done, and I am in the process of learning how to get the whole family on board so I wont have to cook two separate meals every time we eat.

Making food for the family is tough. It's hard enough to feed more than one person sometimes.
I will keep posting even if I don't find a buddy, maybe it can still help someone, like me. Thanks for the encouragement!

well, I will be your buddy if you want me to. We can post away and muttle through all this as we figure it out. I am not doing Atkins per se, but I have in the past. I am now doing more of a Stella Style type deal.... have you ever heard of george stella? atkins base, just a little more liberal. So we are basically on the same diet page and would be able to hold each other accoutable... I am in if you are?

Sounds good, I'm in. I just started induction yesterday, and this is my first day posting, I wasn't sure how that would go, turns out good.
That's funny you mention the stella style, I requested the book from the library to see what it is all about. What do you like about stella? I will let you know when I get the book. What was the thing(s) about atkins you didn't like, I would like someone elses perspective. You seem to be doing well with your weight loss. 16 pounds!
Accountability is a good start. I'm Katie. Nofungirl is just a bad nickname.
Thank you!

hey Katie!!!

how cool you requested stella style.... well, in his first book he does a lot of soy stuff - I cant do that because of hypothyroid, but also would rather taste the bottom of my shoe than soy flavor... lol:ROFL: I found a lot more practical recipes on the stella style. most of the atkins ones in the book are too fancy shmancy for me. however, george stella lost a lot of his weight following the basic atkins program. I dont limit meat, veggies (non starchy of course) eggs or cheese. I dont even know if I am doing stella style, but I just try to eat low carb and my body seems to like it. I have a HUGE sweet tooth, so I have had to find little adaptations for that, but I have some REALLY good stuff...not so much Atkins legal, but still low carb. Does that make sense?

no fun girl - sounds like you must have been the one with sense or something of the group....hahahaha

hi again Wendy,

I don't do much soy stuff, I did but my husband has hypothyroid too and he read that it's not good for him because of that. I have never had soy flour, that I know of, but thanks for the warning. I have seen a lot of recipes that use it. Whats ROFL? I am a little behind, all I know is WTH. I didn't like the Atkins recipes either, they say they are easy and I tried some dips and a few other things, but after I went and bough all the stuff, and mixed it up, I though "all I wanted was a snack!" I am looking forward to seeing the stella book, I found it somewhere on this site, someone was talking about it. It sounds like you found some good inspiration from it. I feel a lot better doing low carb, it's just getting used to it again, especially when everything at the store is quick, quick, quick which also means, sugar, white flour, bad fats. LOL. oh hey I know that one too. I do the same with the limiting, except now since I am doing induction. I have a sweet tooth too, more so on Atkins, it must be my body missing sugar. Have any good sweets recipes? I used to make jello with whipped cream.
You get Knox gelatin (unflavored gelatin) and mix it according to the directions, but put in your own flavored extract (do a drop at a time, they can get strong) and some Splends to taste, I like coconut and lemon, After they sit in the fridge for a while take a few tablespoons of whipping cream, and a packet or two of Splenda and whip it up for a few minutes. I put the gelatin in extra little snack cups that have lids that my son used when he was little or custard cups with lids and its just right to pull one out of the fridge toss on a dollop of whipped cream and satisfy my sweet tooth. Then you can avoid the weird artificial sweeteners the sugar free jello's have in them. If that kind of thing bothers you, like me.
And before I ramble on with any more sillyness, I appreciate you writting with me and by no means do I expect a daily extended report or anything like that.
I am all for low carb even if it's not atkins legal.

My husbands friend would tease me and call me sunshine when I was mad at him, I think no fun girl came out of that, don't get me wrong he was a nice guy, but sometimes a bad influence, if ya know what I mean. The girls at work say I'm funny, but I'm not always sure they are laughing WITH me. Haha

I get a smile everytime I see your cute little ones. There is a picture of me and my family in my gallery, sorry this got so long, you would think I don't have anyone to talk to. LOL

Goodmorning,
I started Atking induction on 6-1-08 and am down 3 pounds, I am very excited. I feel good about this start. I have not been very hungry or looking for snacks like I usually am, but I have been busy running around when I'm not at work which I think helps keep my mind off of food. Eating lots of protein, trying not to eat any sticks of butter, haha. Cheese and Eggs and turkey burgers etc. with some salad with lunch. I had a real sweet tooth last night, whipped up a little cream and put in some Splenda, it worked as a quick fix. Anyone?

hey Katie,

just checking in before I run feed the girls lunch. CONGRATULATIONS on the 3 lbs!!!! That is AWESOME!

Staying busy and eating a lot of protein keeps your mind off food for sure. This morning I tried an egg creme for breakfast....that was at just before 9... I am still full from it! Have you ever tried those? Even though this was my first one, I am pretty impressed.

I will check in after lunch!
Happy Low Carbing!

Hi Wendy
Thanks! The weight loss always seems easy at the start. It's when the weight loss numbers stall and you find there are only so many ways to mask the taste of chicken that you have to get down and dirty and prove your weight loss worth. What? Egg cream, I didn't think cadburys were on the low carb plan, Ha ha,JK! I found a post that talked about egg cream but I'm not quite sure what it is. Please enlighten me. Filling is good. All I had runnig out the door this morning was a turkey hot dog and some cheese. not filling enough. How do you keep your motivation? I can think of a lot of reasons I want to lose weight and be healther, but in the end what is keeping me going what is my motivation.

rofl= rolling on the floor laughing... I too wish the cadbury eggs were legal, it would make things SO much easier. ok, the egg creme deal is this....this is how I made mine

2 or 3 eggs (today I used 2, but 3 is supposed to make it creamier)
4 oz cream
blend together in a blender
add in 5 oz coffee
a dash of cinnamon
splenda to taste
5 ice cubes

mix it up and pour your drink and enjoy. very tasty!!!! and filling. I am going to try a cocoa powder concoction tomorrow I think and see if it tasts more chocolatey - I will keep you posted.

As for my motivation, I have a vacation to destin, florida at the end of this month. So since I really dont want to get harpooned at the beach, this is my motivation for the moment. The other ongoing motivation is that I want to be healthy for my girls. I hate still looking 5 months pregnant when they are almost 2!!!! It takes a lot of energy to keep up with them and honestly I feel so much better when I am eating this way, so I guess that is my biggest motivation. Its not the easiest thing on the planet to do, but preplanning has saved my butt more times than I care to count. SOme days are better than others ya know?

I know this board helps A LOT!!!! keeps you in touch with people who are living the same lifestyle as you so you dont feel like a reject because of what you choose to eat or not eat - does that make sense?

Wendy

Hi Wendy,
When do you cook the eggs? You don't do you. Well I have eaten raw cookie dough, Yum, TOTALLY OFF LIMITS!!! You said it's good, I'll try it.
Vacation is a wonderful motivation. Harpooned, you are very funny! But seriously at the same time I can't say I would be happy to be in a bathing suit or shorts for that matter right about now, even if there was a beach near me, and I LOVE the beach. My motivation also rests with my son. Along with other reasons. Three babies, your stomach must have been a little big. But it's only been almost two years, another motivation. The fear of having someone ask me when I am due....change the subject, did I tell you I'm doing Atkins.
I have felt like a reject when doing Atkins. I know what you mean. I have found being careful who I tell about doing Atkins is only a courtesy to myself. There is always that uncomfortable moment where you are telling someone that you are doing Atkins. Like you just told them you eat mud or something. Here it comes, the reaction......OH! And thats where the conversation tends to end or the misinformed questions begin, I don't mind answering a question, but I don't like being judged.
I am working on the preplanning thing. I am hoping reading about other peoples challanges and talking about mine it will stay easier.

Low carb on......to SUCCESS!!!

hey Katie,

you dont cook the eggs...but you dont taste them either - kinda just like the cookie dough theory. If you try it I think you might like it, just play with it till you find the right combo for your taste buds.

As for telling people, I just say I am watching my carbs. Seems so much easier than getting in to a full blown discussion on how I am killing myself - something like this "I'm just concerned cause I know Jim's brothers friends uncles soninlaw's girlfriends great Aunt Bula Mae got gall stones or had kidney trouble, so I am just trying to look out for you tone of voice .... that bites my butt! (can you tell? )

I was down three pounds this morning, not sure if it was not eating a whole lot yesterday or what, I am curious to see what the deal is tomorrow. I had my "shake" for breakfast around 9 and I am still full, so - so far so good. My mom is in town for the next few days so I think we are going out to dinner tonight - better think of somewhere really good, that has a good meat and veggies selection... I am thinking O'Charley's-they have a GREAT steak and blue cheese cesar salad....banishing the bread basket of course!

3 POUNDS!!! How fabulous. Good Job!
Yum, a steakhouse that sounds perfect. Bread basket bad! How fun to get time with your family. Does your whole family eat low carb?
The whole "I'm just concerned about you" annoys the heck out of me. I really feel until you read Atkins or low carb program you don't know what it's about. And if you have never done one of the programs, the experience is worth it. If it was so bad all these people doing it would be sick and dead. Did you ever notice the reaction you get from people that have done some kind of low carb deal? All positive, at least for me.
I didn't have time for the shake this morning, (and I was waiting to hear back from you about the raw thing) so I will try it tomorrow. Did you try the chocolate flavor?
Good idea about for the low carb comment. I will still get a look, just not as bad. I was almost 2 pounds down today. 4 1/2 pounds since sunday, but I won't get really happy until I see a steady loss over a couple of weeks. I made a goal.

Lose 10 pounds (to 208) by July 1st, of this year. haha

Whats your goal? Do you have one?

Have a beautiful day!

Hi all-
Checking in for the day. My stomach has been really upset the last few days. I though it was because I was hungry but it still hurts after I eat. I have been reading around on LCF and found some people talking about having this problem, but what makes it better. I thought it might be I am not drinking enough water, but I have been drinking three 1-liter bottles since sunday. I am up a pound today(219), I was a little upset at first, but it's just one day and I can get through it to a lower weight. I can't start losing hope in what I'm doing this early. I rode my indoor bike for 40 minutes this morning, the first exercise I have done in a while. Weighed myself and ate breakfast, 2 hard boiled eggs. I had another egg for snack and ground beef with mexican spices and monty jack cheese with a little sour cream for lunch and a salad no dressing.
I found Fitday.com, which someone here had mentioned. It's awesome. I have been entering some of the things that aren't in their food lists my self but it doesn't matter because it's still quick and easy. I love it! I will be able to keep track of what I am eating and quickly be able to see if I am in the percentages for fat and protein I have read are good for induction, with a little attention to calories. 60-70% Fat, 20-30% protein. Does anybody know if that is right?
Feeling positive still, but hoping for better numbers tomorrow.

Hope you all had a great day!!!!

hey!

how are you feeling? any better? do you think its the induction flu? hopefully it will pass.

happy friday!!!! bring on the weekend! TOM showed up today, so I wont be going anywhere near the scale for a few days. I will just keep with my egg cremes and try not to go ballistic. weekends are always harder for me, but we will just have to take it one bite at a time. I dont really have any big plans for the weekend, just going to straighten up around here. We are totally overgrown for this house. We just bought it a few years ago and it was a big house - so we thought. But no one in their right minds buys a house thinking, wow, if we ever had triplets this would be plenty big - ya know? Plus I want to add a "glaze" to the paint in the living room, and redo the kitchen floors.

So we are just trying to decide to add another bathroom and do some additions or to move. But since the market is so crappy, we will probably add on...we just dont want to overbuild for the neighborhood...anyway, thats probably way more than you ever wanted to know.

what are your plans for the weekend?

p.s. my husband just informed me that I am not allowed to watch HGTV or DIY anymore, cause I am getting too inspired to spend too much money!
Wendy

Good afternoon-
I am feeling a little better today, but it's been so hot and humid I am starting to wonder if that has anything to do with my icky feeling. Thanks. Weekend are hard for me too. We always have family movie night on Friday and get take out, it's the one day we do. Now I have to eat something different than what we get (pizza, chinese, mexican) this will be a little hard. Weekends aren't as planned as week days either at least for us, so grazing is more frequent. I have been trying to remove the bad foods that might tempt me, but now that I have good weight loss the temptation seems to be fading some. Still missing my tacos ! Good idea to stick with the egg creams. Better safe than bigger. I haven't tried the egg cream yet, since my stomach has been queasy, but looking forward to something filling for breakfast.
How was your dinner out with mama? Hopefully all went low-carby. We don't have much planned for this weekend. I need to clean and do laundry, maybe take my son to the park if the weather gets cooler. I try to do fun things with him on the weekends since I only see him in the morning before work and in the evenings. I miss him even though he has so much energy I get worn out quick.
The housing market is pretty crappy right not. I think your right, not very many people plan to out grow there house by having triplets, at least your being original, but there may not be a house big enough for you now, haha. How many rooms do you have for the girls? I bet you want to get them their own rooms now that they are growing up to feel more independent from each other, but I don't know anything about triplets. Getting inspired it good, just use caution, you need to worry about three college funds now. I love all the cool ideas they have on those shows. It's hard to not get inspired.
Well after my setback yesterday and feeling not so good, I was nervous to step back on the scale, but it turned out ok. 214.5 and I rode the bike for 35 minutes. I feel good about that 8 pounds. Getting closer to my goal feels good too. How are you doing? Anymore three pounder days? Get some exercise this weekend. Carb on!

Just a quick check in. I cleaned out and washed the fridge today, it turned out to be a lot more work than I thought it would be. Cleaning the rest of the house now. Had a couple of turkey dogs and some deviled eggs, but I have not been drinking enough water. Down a 1/2 pound from yesterday. Feeling good but tired from all the cleaning, but it sure looks good.
Have a great day!

I am glad for you....as for me, I havent been back on the scale on a account of that evil TOM...so it will be a few days. But tonight I blew it - I went out and I was craving a steak fajita burrito with queso on top from the mexican joint...oh well get right back on the wagon tomorrow.

Have you tried the low carb wraps? I love them! They are the best thing for tacos and burritos. Just eat everything else (meat, cheese, sour cream, lettuce etc) and put it in one of those wraps and its like a giant burrito.... soooo good for a taco fix!

Did you get the courage to try the egg creme yet? I did make a chocolate one that was pretty good! They arent thick and creamy though, more like the cold coffee drinks, but they are still good and very filling.

We can make it through the weekends.... I like your saying,

CARB ON!

Thanks for the encouragement! Let me know when you step on the scale in a few days how it goes, I know you will do good. Maybe even another 3 pounds!
I don't see anything wrong with the fajita burrito, except the wrapper, but you could have done much worse damage, sometimes it's good to get something a little questionable, then you can show yourself, you still have control. I say way to go!
I have not tried the low carb wraps yet, since I am only half way through induction I am afraid to try anything thats not on the list. I did have a small dill pickle last night, I don't know if I was supposed to have it but it tasted pretty good. Thanks for the tips on the low carb wraps, do you get the plain or flavored? I have always wanted to try them.
I exercised for 50 minutes today and did some weights. I am going to try to have an egg cream for breakfast tomorrow, usually we are running out the door, so I am lucky if I get much to eat.
How did your weekend go, did you exercise? We have a new week to start and low carb eating to improve our lives with.

To crave sugar is human, to low carb, devine!

Carb on!

Happy MOANday!

I am not going to beat myself up over this weekend...just going to get back on the wagon. I have noticed on days when I havent done the egg cremes, I am a lot more snacky. So I think I am going to keep those up. One of the gals in another thread said she makes hers by the batch so that she can just pump it and go in the mornings. She has one of those pump pitchers by pampered chef. Maybe you could do that and just reblend yours each morning?

I am soo jealous of your exercise! I really need to find something that I can do. I have a gazelle, but I really havent gotten in to it. I also got a walk away the pounds vhs tape off ebay but then our vcr went out. So I really have no excuse, just trying to find some

As for the wrap
