Starting Atkins Again
Starting Atkins again...would love a penpal for motivation, being that I haven't had motivatiion in a long time. I weigh more now than I ever have(210) and on a 5'1" small body frame that's no picnic. My family and I moved from Texas to Minnesota almost two years ago and things went down hill from there...

Kris and I have both done Atkins. About 3 years ago. We both did great. But then I got sick and lazy and gained it all back and more.
When did you start? What are you feeling most challenged with? I'm in Bloomington. I'l let Kris talk for himself! (for once) What brought you up here from Texas? |

I was on the Atkins diet about 9 years ago before I got pregnant with my last child...lost quite a bit just to gain all of it back. The most challanging thing for me is motivation...and of course will power. I suffer from depression and of course these long winters aren't helping a bit.
We had to move here because my DH job relocated us...This has been a real culture shock let me tell ya... |

Four pounds in a week is great! I always start out like gang-busters, losing 15 pounds in 10 days, but then I stop. I have a super fun getaway planned for the 3rd weekend in June and I’d like to be down around 14. That would make me feel much better. Kris would like to lose 63 pounds by then. Hahahaha!!! He’s kind of busy at work today (so he claims) but I’m sure he’ll add in his information later on today.
Can’t wait to hear more about you! Tell me what you love and hate about living up here.

Okay, Lorilinay is right, we do know each other. Sorry to hear that your move was so hard on you. I am looking forward to the feeling I get when my body adjusts to low carb. I can only imagine how I will feel after 63 lbs! Okay, my goal weight should be 180 but that would kill me as I would have to lose 70 lbs. It is much easier for a guy (just ask lori). I'm looking forward to what you like and dislike about Minnesota.

I need to lose...hmmmm let's see. I want to get down to about 140 so that's about 70 lbs. It seems like a lot but I have to do it. I have got to get off of these meds. Since I moved up here I have gained 45 lbs....man...that sucks, I have never even thought about it. So here I am on bloodpressure meds. That's not counting all the other meds I am on. Anti-depressants, thyroid meds, the list goes on and on...lol ok I'm getting depressed let me change the subject.
WHAT I LIKE AND DISLIKE ABOUT MINNESOTA: I like the people, everyone has been really nice. I love this northern accent everyone has, and of course everyone comments on my southern accent. The spring and summer.....AWESOME!!!!! I love the ducks and geese. They're so fun to watch. I hate the winter and how long it is. I don't mind the cold so much, it's just being inside for so long....I'm not the hibernating type. I love the outdoors. I hate the state taxes...DUHHHH who doesn't? I hate being so far from home (I hate not having anyone to hang out with. I did work for the postal service(transfered from Texas) Then last summer me and the kids went back to Texas for the summer and I worked down there when we were home....When we came back I decided to stay at home...I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not... |

The med thing can really drive you crazy. Kris has known me for nearly 6 years and he can attest to how much I've struggled with getting them adjusted just right. I also take thyroid meds and blood pressure meds. Last time I did lo-carb, I was off the blood pressure meds after only 3 weeks. But that was 50 pounds ago! What health issues do you have? What are you taking?
You can consider yourself to have 2 new friends now! You mentioned state tax. I guess I'm just used to it. At least we don't have to pay tax on clothing. That would greatly effect my shopping if we did! hahaha!!! I've found it's really hard to make GOOD friends here too. I have a lot of aquaintances, but nobody really that I'd be comfortable calling to bail me out of jail! I'm a huge scale hopper, so I weigh myself about a million times a day. Stupid idea I know. BUT, this morning I was down another pound. I packed my breakfast/lunch and am ready for day 3. I had a little "tortilla chip" incident yesterday afternoon, but still stayed at 35 carbs for the day. Do you use fitday.com? It's a fabulous tool to help keep you on track. It's a free site that has all sorts of information and graphs, etc.. I'd never be able to stay on track without it. My son is graduating from high school in a couple of weeks, so I'd like to lose 41 pounds by then. hahahahaha!!! I'd be happy with 15. I think when Kris and I did induction last time I lost 14 pounds in those 2 weeks and he lost 20. It was great. Okay, I better start to work. I'll try to stop back throughout the day... Keep the faith K! You can do it. (What's your actual name?) We are here for you!!!! Are you getting support at home for your weight loss? |

My hubby supports me all the way. My health issues...I have high bloodpressure,2 different meds for that. Hypothyroidism. I take hormone replacements (hysterectomy)
Ambien to get me to sleep. I think that's all...well I take migrain meds if I get one...Thank goodness havent had one of those in a while!!! Never heard of fitday.com I'll have to check it out. I'm a scale hopper to....I just can't help it. I know I shouldnt do it but it's just to tempting...lol My name is Kelly...and what's yours? Guess I need to go myself...gotta go find some kind of job... Thanks for the support. |

HI Kelly!
It was a busy day at work, and then prom night, so I was busy with the kids and all that. I'm struggling today with my diet. I've stayed on it, and not cheated, but I'm going crazy. I'm already sick of salad and meat. I made some sugar free jello, but I know that's not a great thing to eat while in the induction phase. Hopefully the scale will refect more loss and that will motivate me. I'm also getting nasty hot flashes and the headache. Kris is out of town until sometime next week, so I'm not getting any support there. HE ate a pancake with syrup yesterday. And I'm sure he's not staying on plan over the weekend either. It's 3am and I can't sleep. I'm thawing out some shrimp to munch on. Do you have any plans for this nice long weekend? What kind of work are you looking for? How old are you? Kids? What do you like to do for fun? Just send more details. I was working all evening on cleaning out my closet. I put all of my size 10's and some 12's into a bag to donate tomorrow. I figure if I get back into those sizes that I'll want to buy new things. I kept a couple of the classic items that I love, but the rest haven't fit me in years. How sad. Well, better get back to the closet! I have tons of new empty space in there now. Don't be a stranger! Lori.... |

Hi - I would love to be your Atkins buddy! Your stories sound so familiar... I, too, was doing Atkns about 8 years ago (faithful faithful faithful) and lost 50 pounds. Now, I weighed in at 211 at the doctor's office yesterday... my Lord what happened to me??? On my 5' 2 1/2" (that 1/2" is super important, huh?) frame I guess the charts are right --- I'm officially obese. So, here I am - ready to start again. Can we help each other??? (Please???) Love and prayers to you all... April

Hi April and Kelly!
How you are having a nice long weekend. I really messed up today. Went to Perkins with my daughter and fully planned to get eggs and bacon. But then the strangest thing happened!!! The waiter brought me out eggs and bacon and cinnamon french toast. He said it was a mistake but I could have it anyway and not be charged. So who was I do turn away such a fine gift??? ![]() And since I had already messed up, I had a piece of strawberry pie. I'm going right to low carb hell. I just know it. But now it's almost 8pm and I'm not hungry and haven't eaten much. I'm either actually sick, or have terrible induction flu. Can't imagine that would be the case, considering what I had for brunch!! I was down another half pound this morning. I'm afraid to weigh in tomorrrow. So share more about yourself April.... Best to both of you...Lori... |

Hi April!!! What part of Texas are you from? Gosh I miss it so much! Glad to have another Atkins buddy
Ok Lori I think maybe the reason you feel sick is because you overoverdosed on carbs. I know it's so tempting when you eat out. What the hell am I saying I probably would have done the same thing. But on the serious side that's what we are here for....SUPPORT right? I, myself today don't think I have eaten enough carbs or something, because I sure have felt dizzy. I hope it goes away because it sure does bug the heck out of me. I went through my closet the other day. I kept a few things not many because there isn't much in there in the first place. I have a couple of 12's that I am keeping but the rest is going in a garage sale. I look for to the day that I can fit back into a twelve and not pass out when I tie my shoes...hmmmm wouldn't that be nice? What kind of job am I looking for? Just about anything right now. I am so sick of basically living paycheck to paycheck. I would go back to the postal service but I am not gauranteed hours there. The money is great but I need something more stable. |

I have a 13 yo daughter and a 8 yo son...rotten to the core! Love em to death.
I've been married for 20 years coming this December...Wow that's the first time I've said that! What do I like to do for fun??? I forgot....It's been a long time since I have done anything since I've been so depressed. Seriously, I love to work in my flower beds, craft, paint, make jewelry. I have loads of scrapbooking stuff but have yet to do any of it.lol I would love to do mosiacs. Love home decorating, painting, do it yourself projects. I would love to tile my bathroom...gotta get a job first. There are lots of things I like to do, I just haven't done them in a long time. Ok, April and Lori, It's your turn to tell me about yourselves. ![]() Lori, keep your head up girlfriend. Just start again tomorrow. It'll be ok. We all have setbacks ever once in a while. Nope, it's not overload. I'm sick as a dog. I got up this morning and my eyes and nose are runny. Sore throat, achy and a fever. All I want is a big chocolate shake. hahaha!!
I'll try and write more later, but right now I'm headed back to the couch. Oh, I'm down 6 ounces!!! |

So I wonder how my buddy Kris is doing. I know he told me where he was going, but I don't remember. Probably hunting or something. He has a hard time staying on track. hahahaha!!! (I know he'll read this)
I was just looking up recipes and found the french toast with pork rinds one. I LOVED that!! I don't have any sugar free syrup though, and don't really feel like going up to the store. So I'm having a bratwurst for breakfast!! Maybe for lunch I'll make a big yummy salad and munch on it all afternoon. My mom was going to come over today, but my house is trashed and I don't want her to get sick. I just called and cancelled. Daughter is still sleeping. Oh, to be a teenager and not worry about all your responsibilities!!! It looks and feels pretty gloomy outside. I think I heard rain last night. So what did you eat yesterday? I'm going to have a lot of broth today as well. Maybe that will fill me up AND help me feel better... Lori... |

Yep it rained last night. I think it's going to on and off all day long..hmmm fun fun. I need to look at some recipes myself. |

Where'd everyone go???
I'm still feeling horrible, but am putting together my lunch/breakfast for tomorrow. I'll munch on it all day... Fresh spinach and fresh romaine chopped up in a HUGE container. Then I added chopped up steak leftover from dinner, cucumbers, some bacon, fresh mushrooms, and a bit of cheese. I'll probably alternate between a sugar free raspberry vinagrette and blue cheese. Oh!!! I have some fresh blue cheese too! I'll have to check though because I don't think you can eat that on induction. And maybe a couple of grape tomatos for color. I invited Kris to join me for lunch, but I think he's ignoring me. Big poophead. I'm not down any weight today. but last night a was horrible, so I was just glad that I didn't gain. Please, let me hear from someone else. KRIS!!!!!!!!!!! I don't want to have to go through this alone too! (And you know JUST what I mean) |

Just a little side note....I got on the scale (never a good idea at night) just to prepare myself for how bad it might be in the morning. And I was at 197.8!!! I double checked 4 times. Holy crap!! Now I can't wait to see what tomorrow morning brings. I didn't eat a lot today because I've not felt great, but still did manage to consume enough. But to lose THAT much in just one day is crazy! I love this lo-carb thing. Too bad I know I'd never be able to keep up with it forever. I just need to get to August. But if I'm actually really down 8 pounds, that means I only have 7 more to go by June the 4th. I'm right on track.
How did everyone else do? April, are you still with us? Kris, what about you? |

Sorry I haven't been online in awhile....been down in the dumps...VERRRRRRY homesick today. I have only lost 6 lbs and tha's getting me down also. I have been so strict with my carbs I can't understand what the deal is.
Way to go Lori...that's awesome....I wish my scales would tell me the same thing. It makes you feel good when the scales go down and makes it all worth it. There is icecream in my freezer calling my name.....So instead of oinking out on it I got a bottle of water and logged on here. BAD BAD day.... Hope you get to feeling better Lori... |

Hi everyone! I am back. Lori was right, I was hunting turkeys on the other side of Wisconsin. Didn't have computer access. I am up and early this morning to start a 3 day training session in Jordan, MN. Hope they don't buy us lunch or I will be giving away the usual chips and bread on the sandwich. I did well over the weekend with the diet. Was able to eat some turkey and spinach along with a couple hamburgers (without the bun of course). Eggs and cheese in the morning. Oh...best of all some Wisconsin brats! Induction isn't as bad this time. I think it is because I am exercising along with the diet change. Energy level is low, blaming that on to much work. Thanks for inviting me over for lunch yesterday Lori. Sorry I couldn't make it. Now that I think about it, I didn't have a chance for lunch. Can't seem to get away from meetings lately. It was good to talk to you on the phone but I hardly recognized your voice with your recent illness. Hope you get better soon. Remember our goal! Smores in Duluth!
