I have:
  • "4-Mile Super Challenge"
  • "3-Mile Abs"
  • "Get Up and Get Started" and "High Calorie Burn", all on one DVD
I love them, because I can "walk" without having to go outside, and you can do however many miles you want to do...all with the same DVD's.
Also, I have trouble with one knee, so I can walk uphill just fine, but the downhill slopes kill my knee. This way, I'm always on a flat surface.

I just got mine back from MIL.
I'm recuperating from back surgery (3 weeks now) and thinking this would be a good video to get me back into my video workouts. I have been doing outside walking - but I get scared sometimes when I am by myself that I may get too far and be stranded. (No worries, I never leave home without my cell phone!)

Anyway, this was my first video on my journey starting 4 years ago. And a great way to get moving. Maybe tomorrow I'll break it out again!

You know, Barb, I've noticed a great improvement in my knee, since I've been doing these workouts. Exercise is good for our bones/joints, but sometimes the hills and holes in the road and things like that AREN'T good for them. The area in which I live, is nothing but one hill, right after another, so there is no way I can walk outside, without going up and down hills...it just kills my knee.

Absolutely true! Even my PT says no inclines on the treadmill for bad backs!
(Luckily I live in S. Florida. Only hills around here are landfills! )
It's just getting so HOT that if I don't get out early... well... it's HOT!
I miss my videos.

Me! I love WATP's. I use them 5-6x weekly. I have several different ones but tend to alternate between the 5-mile advanced and another 3 mile one, can't think of the name but it gets a little more advanced.

I used to walk outside every morning, regardless of weather (I'm in Ohio) and did really great until I slipped on black ice one morning, not to mention all the ice storms we had this past winter. With these videos I have no excuse and find that I'm doing these more often than I would have walked outside.

I still do 3 outside intervals during the week, basically walking/jogging up and down some major hills for about 20 minutes and I also walk 3x/week at the high school track with my daughter. Your feet really do get abused when walking outside.

I'm hoping they continue to come out with more advanced workouts as I really liked the pace of the more recent ones. I still do other workouts and just add more weights or jog in place to ramp it up. I really love using weights during aerobics, I can really tell a difference.

GG, I went to Walmart and in the Sporting Goods Section, I found those little soft weights with the handles, for a couple of dollars, each. I also found the weighted balls that she uses on one of the DVD's...the little weighted balls that you hold in each hand. The ones I got were made by Danskin, but they looked exactly like the ones she sells on her website. I'm thinking mine were around $10 for the set.

I'm not ready to use them, because I haven't been doing it (or walking), for as long as you have. But, I went ahead and bought them, so I'd have them, when I am ready.

I am bored silly of my treadmill and hate sitting around hoping the weather will be nice enough to walk in. So, I just ordered 2 WATP DVDs and 1 Denise Austin Blast Away the Pounds on ebay this am. I can't wait to get started! I hope to get them by next weekend.

We should start a WATP Challenge!! Any takers??

I have finished 18 miles of her WATP Walk Away Your Waistline-it has a resistance belt you use for upper body toning and oblique toning. Really like it.

I'm up for that! Anyone else...a certain number of WATP miles, per week...your choice of DVD's? What are your suggestions?

I think I will start keeping track of my total miles walked, on WATP. That's a good idea!

I hope to get my DVDs by the end of this week- so hopefully we can begin sometime next week. This will give others a chance to respond as well.

I vote that we just walk a certain # of miles per week using any of the DVDs- since it's not likely that we all will have the same one. How does this sound??

I have been having a great induction, but I think losing 40 lbs has given me energy that I'm itching to burn! I've been pretty restless lately-- does this sound normal?!?!

I hope others join!

I'll post as soon as I get my DVDs.

I'd love to join too! My vote is for # of miles per week. I have so many of her dvd's already. I like them all and the variety makes it less boring. Jeanie

I agree with you two. I have several of them, and I love being able to switch around, to counteract the boredom. Also, as skoolmarm mentioned, we'll all have different DVD's. I agree that we should choose a specific number of miles per week...our own choice of DVD(s). Then, we can increase, as we feel necessary. I say we start out slowly, and progress, from there. If we post which DVD's we each did, and how we liked it, we can also get ideas on new ones, that we'd like to add to our collection.

Skoolmarm, I know what you mean, about all of the excess energy. I've been feeling it, too. I have my office fixed up, so nicely. It's just my office...DH has his own, in the basement. I have my laptop on my desk...I can play DVD's on it. But, I have a few that I got from ebay, that are tapes. So, DH put shelves in my office closet, from the ceiling...almost to the floor. We have an old TV with a built-in VCR, that we never used. He put it on one of the closet shelves, and ran the cord up behind the shelves, and plugged it into one of those plugs that screw into the lightbulb. So, if I want to do a DVD, I just stand in front of my desk, and watch it on my laptop. If I want to do a VHS tape, I stand in front of the closet door, with the door open.

I put all of my hand weights and my walking shoes and my video tapes on the shelves of the closet. I have a table with drawers, in the office, and I have my workout socks, sports bra, and things like that, in the drawers. I also have a bookshelf in the office, with all of my "diet books". So, I have absolutely no excuses, as far as not being able to workout.

I have a journal on that table with the drawers, but I was thinking about painting a section of the inside of the closet door, with chalkboard paint, so I can keep track of what workouts I do, each day that week.

Oh...I just remembered to add a tape measure, to my shopping list, for Walmart tomorrow.

I'm game for a miles/week challenge! That will definitely keep me going. I just ordered a couple more over the weekend to keep things mixed up.

Melle - I bought a box set with those round blue weights, and I don't like them much, mainly because I have some problems with my hands/wrists and they just felt funny. I typically just use some 5 lb dumbbells that I already have. I'm thinking about adding some ankle weights once in a while, its really helps to mix it up. I think it might really help tone up my legs.

I'll check back to find out about a challenge.

It's great to see such an interest already! I LOVE the idea of starting out slowly and progressing. I have no idea about how to set up an exercise challenge and where we should begin- so I'll leave that to an expert.

Currently, I do all my outside/treadmill walking with my MP3 player-- would that still work for WATP? Would it be difficult to just follow along a DVD workout visually/no sound?

I'll check back to see where you guys think we should start. Would it be okay to plan on starting this weekend or later?

Thanks!

Do you mean use Leslie's workouts for outside walking. I don't think that would work because they involve side steps, kicks, knee-ups and marching.
A while back I think she did have one that was meant to be used for outdoor walking, but I am not sure on that. I would check her website and Collage Video to see if they still have them. Jeanie

I've never considered doing an outside walk, with her DVD's, Skoolmarm. I'll think about that, when I do mine, today...and let you know. I do think you'd probably look kind of silly, doing those side steps and leg kicks, but if you don't mind...I don't mind! But, if we start with 3.5 miles a week, then you could do WATP one or two days a week (maybe if it's raining), and then walk outside, the rest of the time. This doesn't have to be THE ONLY workout you use.

I'm thinking about starting with something like 3.5 miles, per week. I know when I first started them, I couldn't even do one full mile...and I'm a restaurant server who runs around a restaurant, all day long. But, that's the good thing about WATP...you can do as much as you want, each day. I LOVE the "mile markers", in the workouts.

But, if we started out with 3.5 miles a week, then those who cannot do an entire mile at one time, could just do 1/2 mile, every day. Those who can do more at one time, could do it 1 or 2 days a week, and then do whatever else they want to do, the rest of the days.

LOL-- I didn't mean doing the steps outside!?! I meant listening to my MP3 player while doing WATP inside I was just concerned that there would be instructions or something I needed to listen for. I was hoping to visually follow along while listening to my own music!

I love the idea of doing the steps, kicks, knee-ups, and marching while walking down my street I bet my neighbors would love that Thanks for the laughs guys!!

BTW-- I'm willing to try 3.5 miles a week.

I'm glad we got that cleared-up. I thought it would look pretty strange, but who am I to judge?

Yes, I think once you get used to the steps, you can listen to your own music. In fact, I'd thought about doing that, myself. I'm still laughing at the idea of you doing the routine, down the street. It would be like those "fancy strut" routines, I used to do, when I twirled a baton.

Now, I might even pay to watch that one!

Seriously, after you do the dvd's a couple of times you will be ready to do it without the sound as the conversation gets old quick. Some of the newer, advanced workouts offer the options of instructions with music or music only. I typically turn down the sound and turn my radio up.
