Anyone want to be my buddy?
Hi folks
I'm a 31 yr old British female, just had my second baby and have 20 pounds to lose (have already lost 6 in the last week of this WOE - woohoo!) I'm now 11 stone and am 5 ft 6. Things are going good so far and I am reading, reading, reading my way around the subject to learn as much as I can, which I'm finding really exciting. Only problem is, I feel like I'm slightly on my own here. My husband, whilst supportive, is easily bored by the whole subject of weight loss (he has never had a problem with his weight) and most of my family and friends think it's an extreme way of eating. But for me, there is no choice. I have yo-yoed with my weight for years, been a binge eater and know that I'm addicted to carbs. I've failed at other diets in the past and blamed it on my weak will power. Now I know a lot of it was chemical as I'm actually quite a determined person. but I also know that I do much much better at things when I have support. So am wondering, anyone out there want to be my buddy? look forward to hearing from you Ems x |

Welcome. I am in London and am struggling to get it off like you, although it sounds like you have made a great start.
You will find people very friendly around here, so keep coming back! |

Hi there
Great to find someone who also lives in London. My experience of this woe is that it's much more prominent in the States than over here. I don't know half the ingredients that people list in recipes and the measurements in cups in simply baffling (especially when I'm trying to do fitday logs.) Have you managed to find your way through this minefield yet? |

Hi Ems,
I have been a member for 8 years. I initially went from 13s12 to 9s5, but after completely going mad and having galaxy for breakfast lunch and dinner I actually gained up to 14s12 and I am now back down to 13s13 and going to get to 10s. Yeah the woe is much more popular in the US and they have all the bits and pieces, but I think I can help you translate if you want. I am in Ealing, where are you? |

I'm in Hackney so the other side of London from you!
Well done on already losing a stone. How are you finding things? Sounds like you're an old hand at this woe, anyway and I'm sure now you've knocked the galaxies on the head you'll be back down in the 10s before you know it. I'm getting my head round it all quite quickly and fitday has been a real find as logging things is keeping me in check. One problem I've been having is feeling really hungry even when I've no reason to be. I actually posted about this earlier today but am still none the wiser despite people's advice. Starting to think that I'm some weirdo for experiencing hunger when most people's appetities rapidly diminish on this woe. I've been troubleshooting as to why it's happening but I'm not having sugar alcohols or nuts and I'm eating plenty of fat and, by the sounds of things, too many calories (averaging 2200-2500). Any thoughts on who I might speak too to find out why this is happening? I'm trying to eat to satisfy hunger but this is obviously bumping up the calories. |

Hiya Emss..
We still have a flat in hackney (close to the stoke new border) but we let it. Ok Can you post me everything you ate and drank? That might help me to have a see. Also, no offense but are you coming on? |

Hello. No, not coming on and things have been a wee bit better today. Less starving so am hoping it's just my body adjusting to this new woe. Making sure I drink a tonne as this seems to be helping. In terms of posting what I ate - is there a way of me sharing with you my fitday food log? This will be the easiest way for you to see exactly what I've eaten.
Can't believe you have a flat in hackney. It's probably only round the corner from us as we too are near the Stokey border. Amazing! It's 2.35 am. I'm up because my little one (Ruby, 3 months woke up.) Now I can't get back to sleep and I feel totally alert and brilliant. Wondering if this is one of the effects of induction. Did you ever feel like this? Oh and one more Q. Have you come across a cereal called flax snax? I found it on a low carb site and it seems good - 2 carbs per portion, no sugar alcohols (only splenda). Seems induction friendly and thought it might kill 2 birds with one stone- provide me with a breakfast cereal (which I miss - was a religious porridge eater before!) and do some good for my digestion. Let me know what you think? Any other breakfast things you've come across that work? chat soon E x |

Welcome! Aside from this thread, try posting questions in the other, busier threads. There is always lots of help and advice readily available there.
Okay, I have to ask-- what do you both mean by 11 stone/ 13s12?? 9s5?? Welcome again and thanks for answering my silly question. |

Hey there. Yes, feeling myself around the site and starting to post in other threads. Thanks for your help though!
A stone is equal to 14 pounds so 11 stone is 11 x 14 = 154 pounds. It's how we measure weight over here in the UK. |

Hey Ems..
Moring... Yes I am wide awake and alert like you mention. I don't know anything about the flax stuff. I am trying to keep to a clean Atkins of just meat and veg and a very very limited amount of dairy and cheese. I know if that flax stuff was moreish I would go mad and eat the whole box. xx |

not bad at all. now into my second week and feeling good. think weight loss is slowing though, which is to be expected.
i'm loving exploring this site for ideas and tips and have been looking into recipes as want to experiment a bit (i'm mostly eating the same everyday which is a bit boring.) only thing is, everything's measured in cups and i just don't understand them. how do you do the conversions? how are things going with you? |

good for you. can't believe that i once ran a marathon and went to the gym 5 days a week. now, the most i can manage is pushing the pushchair round the local shops (although with both girls in it, it's some weight). it's not the motivation, it's the time. hubbie works late (not home yet) so at the mo i don't even get the evenings off to go exercise.
have you got kids? |

Hi Ems
I will bud up with you if you will have me! Nice to have someone of similar weight and in the UK. I lose weight VERY VERY slowly, but as long as I am not going UP I am happy. |

hey ladies and welcome bekki. come join us!
almene - would love to bud up with you. especially as you seem to be the fountain of all knowledge when it comes to recipes and ingredients! i'm determined to start being a bit experimental with meals, especially whilst i have the time to cook during my maternity leave and it's amazing to me that there can be so much variety when i thought lc meant steak and greens everynight. i reckon i lose weight slowly too and like you, will just be pleased if i don't go up. am trying not to put myself under too much pressure as i only had a baby 3 months ago and the main thing for me with this woe is that the cravings have gone and i can eat properly without feeling like i've overdone it so then need to skip the next meal etc. quick update on how i'm doing. 2 weeks of induction are up tomorrow... BUT... i cheated yesterday. am quite annoyed with myself. we had friends round for sunday lunch... (and you need to put this into the context of the fact that i've not socialised for months because of the pregnancy and the new baby)... and well, i cooked all lc - a lovely roast chicken, plenty of veg etc., fabuous cheese platter etc... but then i overdid it on the wine. i thought i wasn't going to drink at all but then i did and then i got drunk (i expressed milk for the baby so wasn't being totally irresponsible) and then i lost all resolve and then... i had a big bowl of green and black's vanilla ice cream. DOH. idiot that i am. i was serving the meal and then put temptation my own way. i should have just stuck with serving up only the cheese and no one would have missed the ice cream. so, that has been quite a lesson for me and i'm annoyed as i didn't even make it through 2 weeks of clean induction. plus, i am hungover and my girls have been up since 6 and it's not even 10 yet and just, well, grrrrrr. rant over. how's everyone else doing? |

Hey Em
That was yesterday, this is today! I learnt my lesson the hard way too. Nowadays, if I cook for friends they get what I make and that's that, I only serve things that I eat myself. Also, I am lucky to have so many inspiring cooks in these forums, it would be unfair to try and name them all as I would for sure leave someone out! Check out Linda Sue's recipies, she is absolutely fab! |

you're right and i'm going to do this in future. ridiculous thing is that everyone ate the cheese - bought some amazing stuff from Borough market (if you've never been then you must check it out when you come to London as a foodie like you will LOVE it) and hardly anyone ate the ice cream except little miss piggy here!
anyone, it was yesterday and today is going good and my hangover has gone now and both the girlies are asleep so lovely and quiet. i found linda's website a week or so ago and she has also responded to a few of my posts. she is amazing and i have been following some of her tips including making my own chicken stock (something i rarely ever do) from yesterday's carcass. it's cooking away nicely in my crock pot and smells delicious. what are your thoughts on alcohol consumption? do you drink much and if so, what? |

I have some electronic scales I bought from Boots. They make a HUGE difference as now you can monitor any minuscule weight change! ALCOHOL - i love it, though it does stall weigh loss, no doubt about it! I got down to 125 but that was NO DRINKING! |
