Fabulous 40's #16

Here we are! New Year, new thread!

We're a great group of 40-somethings working on the low carb way! Any & all are welcome to join us!

Well, I'm back on the job hunt and have filled out a few applications. Hope to get a reply, good or bad, this waiting is hard! Went on an interview yesterday. Nice hours, nice pay, but I'd go in every day (was hoping for 3x/week) and the work is not very exciting. I'd be sorting & stamping papers in courier packets that this business receives from clients. I guess it's not that simple, but I was hoping for something with a little more growth potential. The office appears friendly & very casual, but cramped & loud. Also, the boss' dog is there, too. Nice dog, but this is a little too casual! I'll hear back by the end of the week.

O.K., NO MORE COOKIES! The last of the Xmas cookies are tempting me. I want to eat them just to get rid of them, which, I know is not exactly the right attitude! Otherwise, I'm getting back on the straight & narrow after the holiday glutt!

Has anyone heard about Jorge Cruise's 8 Minutes in the Morning? Found out about him by accident and it sounds pretty good.

Hope to hear from everyone else soon!

Hello 40's

I'm a newbie with LC, today is day 6 for me. After reading your posts everyone seemed so friendly I just couldn't pass up the chance to say HI!!

HI!!

A little about me:

I'm a 49 yo Texas native, have a great job as as Office Manager for a construction company (with a subsidiary that's a flower shop!!).

My SO and I have been together 19 yrs, he's not changing his WOE with me, but at least he's mostly supportive (heck he doesn't really need to change, he's only gained 3 inches in his waist in 19 years!!!). I have 1 child, 31 yo living in PA and one GC 8 yo.

I tried Atkins a couple of years ago, but obviously wasn't in the right mind set, I can't remember if I lost weight or not LOL. This time around I'm feeling so positive I couldn't stay away from the scale and as of yesterday morning I'd dropped 4 #s. It's so strange to be trying to lose weight and not feel hungry all the time or have sweets cravings... I'm not even missing my bread that much. When I do feel hungry, or get the munchies, I don't feel like having a sandwich or snack cake, a piece of salami or cheese works just fine (especially the cheese "crackers"). I've even stopped saying I'm on a diet and started refering to it as a change in the way I eat.

My goal is to drop a minimum of 50#'s by my 50th birthday in December. I'm such a newbie I'm sure I'm going to drive people crazy with questions. I consider myself a good cook, and am anxious to try some of the recipies I've found so far. Any suggestions and assistance you can offer are more than welcome.

First question?? how do you get the "no cheating" star??

Thanks for listening to me.

Hi ladies, welcome to the new people too! I am finally back down the 5 holiday pounds, I'm not even sure why I let myself eat that junk Christmas night! My DH and I talked about it when we got home and both felt like we needed to make sure we weren't missing out on something. I find carby food no where near as exciting as I remembered. The family encouraged us to cheat by saying things like "you haven't cheated for a month and always get right back on track the next day" and we let them talk us into it. Next gathering we will remind each other how bad we felt (physically) and simply tell them no.

TxCharity, The quilts were a big hit with my daughter who hinted for one for herself. Ariel (who turned 2 in October) said "Oh wow, a blanket!"...she loves blankets! She takes it to bed every night. Callista is 9 months now and I know she'll love it later. Thanks for remembering!

I have missed posting to the board, what a crazy time of year!

DH is melting away, I would guess he is down about 50-60 lbs. I am amazed at the difference in him on this WOL. He has always been such a carb addict and even the few times we have cheated he has been right back on track the next morning. He has always been the type to need a cheat day weekly, etc...I honestly feel we will finally reach our goal and be able to maintain. Even when we did this last spring we would get bored and give up, now we find plenty to eat and lots of ways to prepare it. I think we weren't ready last spring and now we are both ready. We are both within 20 lbs of our lowest weight in 15 years !! (in the past it has been one or the other of us losing well...now we fit together so nicely when we hug....strange what little things you notice!) Boy, this has been an all about me post, hasn't it???? Sorry girls. I wanted to post to others, but can't remember what was in Fab 40's #15, lol!! Have a great week!

WEEK 1

WELL EVERYONE...I DID IT!! I HAVE LOST 9 POUNDS FOR MY FIRST WEEK! YEE HAW! I REALIZE THIS IS THE MOST I WILL LOSE IN A WEEK BUT IT AT LEAST GAVE ME A JUMP START. I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH EVERYONE. I JUST CAN TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS WHEN I JUMPED ON THE SCALE THIS MORNING...I ACTUALLY HAD TO WEIGH 3 TIMES BEFORE I BELIEVED WHAT I WAS SEEING...LOL I HOPE TO CONTINUE TO DO WELL AND WISH THE SAME FOR EVERYONE ELSE. BY THE WAY THE BACON ISSUE HAS ME A LITTLE CONFUSED. EVERY PACKAGE OF BACON I HAVE READ HAS NITRITES IN IT, DOES THIS MEAN I SHOULDN'T EAT IT? I THOUGHT BACON WAS A GOOD THING. WOULD IT BE BETTER TO GO TO THE MEAT MARKET TO BY BACON? ANYHOW, I WILL CHECK IN LATER. HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Good Morning Ladies!
Well. it's dark & rainy here today which makes it feel chilly inside. It's good that we have the rain, though - maybe we'll get some wildflowers this spring because of it.

Welcome to Kis13 & Lady Texun! Congrats on finishing up your first week and your losses!!

I wouldn't worry about the bacon. I'm not even sure what the nitrites really do, but even Atkins, on the Larry King interview, said as long as you're eating the bacon in moderation, don't worry about it. He mentioned getting organic bacon at a health food store, but I bet it's hard to find and expensive. Stick with your favorite brand and enjoy!

Charity - Another loss! Good for you! I can't imagine what I'd be like if I lost that much! Hopefully, someday, I'll know!

Well, I'm off to the grocery store! Have a fabulous day!

KIS13..... Congradulations !!! Keep up the great job!!!! That is wonderful to see the scales move in a big jump like that!!! Keep up the great job!!
As far as the NITRITES in the bacon I have never worried about this I make sure the bacon is not loaded with sugar... I am sure you will get differnt opinions the more people you ask... I was concerned about when I first started and i asked my Dr and she told me not to worry about them ... So you will have to decide if its an important factor for you to consider ... Low Carb Way of life is an personal choice where we set our bounderies ... If its a real concern I suggest you to talk to your Dr he or she should know if itss an issue for you !!!
Keep up the great work!!! Hugs t o you !!!!

Thank you all so much for the welcome. I'm starting to feel right at home on this site.

I'm so psyched over this new WOL!! I've even gotten my bosses wife started. I don't know if it's because the LC really makes me feel better or what, but I've even noticed my hair looks better. And trying foods and recipies I've never tried before sure takes the ol' boredom out of eating.

Hopefully I'll get to know each of you as the days go on.

Again Thanks!!

(I still'd like to know how to get the "cheaters" star )

Hello Ladies!
Another foggy, gloomy morning here, but it's supposed to burn off later today.

Lady Texun - I just noticed your stats and see you're in about the same boat as I am. 5'4", looking towards getting to 150lbs. I'm at 204 now, have lost 20 so far. Am doing the slow but sure route.

KIS13 - Glad we can be here for you! Keep up the good work!

Hope our newbies, and us "old timers" (! ) are sticking with the plan, lots of water, and (ugh!) exercising! I'll admit, I haven't exercised in quite awhile, but am thinking of getting the 8 Minutes in the Morning book. Might check it out at the bookstore, but saw it's only $10 at Amazon. Heard he was praised on Oprah, etc.

Hang in there, it's almost Friday!

Good Morning its a wonderful Sunny warm day in Texas today!!! Today is my first day of my work week ..:-)
I saw something posted by another Low Carber that I feel is so important I wanted t o share this... Many of you I have already emailed it to you but I feel all the people that lurk and read the thread mihgt benefit from it ... Happiness is my Choice !!

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised, and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coiffed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.

Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet curtains that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait." "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it ... It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account--you withdraw from it what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories." Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less

Tx Charity; that was ... wonderful!
Thank You

Mariooch; oh yeah?? cool!! BUT are you 49 years old and trying to, finally, take it off and keep it off?
I was tickled to get on the scale this morning after my first full week and see 6#'s gone!!! WOOHOO!!!

My SO is truly trying to be supportive, I made a meatloaf last night with crushed, spicy, pork rinds instead of bread crumbs... I didn't tell him till this morning LOL. He figures the unflavored pork rinds will do well as breading for one of his favorites, fried eggplant!!

Hi Again!
No, I'm not 49, I'll be 44 in March. However, I do want to take it off for good!!! I've lost 50 lbs. twice and had gained it back plus more each time. So this is changing my way of eating for good! Since I've lost the 20, I've been able to cut my Lipitor and blood pressure meds in half. I'm hoping to get off both of them by spring or summer. By the way, I weighed myself today and I'm at 203, not 204. This may not seem like much, but I was stalled at 204 at what seemed like forever!

THANK YOU

TX CHARITY I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR PUTTING MY MIND AT EASE!! AS FOR MY MENU'S SO FAR I REALLY DON'T NEED TO CHANGE ANYTHING YET, EXCEPT TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I AM DOING....LOL AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT I EAT IS AS FOLLOWS:

BREAKFAST - SCRAMMBLED EGGS & SAUSAGE OR BACON
LUNCH - TUNA AND PORK SKINS OR CHICKEN OF SOME SORT
DINNER - HAMBURGER, FISH, CHICKEN OR SHRIMP AND CEASAR SALAD

I WILL HOW EVER KEEP YOU IN MIND WHEN I START TO STALL. I DO HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION FOR YOU (OR ANYONE THAT KNOWS THE ANSWER) ...I LIKE TO HAVE A DRINK EVERY NOW AND THEN AND MY BIRTHDAY IS COMING UP SO, IS IT SAFE TO HAVE A SHOT OR TWO OF A NO CARB ALCOHOL SUCH AS BRANDY OR VODKA? (OBVIOUSLY STRAIGHT UP SINCE JUICE ISN'T ALLOWED) OR EVEN THE NEW LOWCARB BEER PROVIDING I LIMIT IT TO 1? IF NOT, I CAN DO WITHOUT BUT IT SURE WOULD BE NICE ONCE IN A WHILE....LOL WISHING EVERYONE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

Kis13, Dh always mixes his alcohol with diet soda, last week he had something mixed with a diet rite raspberry soda...(that would be closer to juice)....Also like Charity said about the dressing, just go forward like you normally would...if that little bit knocked you out of ketosis it will take just a short time to get back in...I wouldn't worry about it at all. You seem to be in the right mind set to stay on track, so it shouldn't be hard for you to just keep plugging along. Keep up the great work!

Sorry so short...got to get back to work again...have a nice weekend everybody!

KIS13 ....exactly girl if your losing its working !!! So many people get so worried about the color of the stick medication can affect it and so can thyroid ...Girl relaxe and stay true to your food plan and watch the inches and the weight come off .. It did not come on over night and won't disappear over night either ... If you are eatting the foods your suppose to eat then you are successful !!! Stay true to your food plan !!! HiDeeHo Girls!

The site is so slow today! Anyhow, hope all's well with everyone!

Beaniegurl - Congrats to you on your loss!

Kis13 - As everyone has said, don't panic about the sticks. Could be you are being good and drinking alot of water and that will "dilute" the results. Also, it's been suggested that you check at mid-afternoon time for best results. Another tasty drink is vodka and diet Squirt! Your menu looks good, maybe add a small salad or veggie at lunchtime.

Last night I went out to dinner with my friend and I wore a new top which was more form-fitting vs. the usual tunic-style I wear. I was complimented by both her and dh which sure felt nice.

Let's all keep up the good work!! Have a great weekend!

I did it! I did it! I finally broke my stall!!

Hi all! Soooo sorry for being gone for so long! Wow, it just took me forever to read all the past posts! I didn't think I was gone THAT long! LOL I've just been very busy with my kids and their homework and other things. I tried to really concentrate on what I ate and my exercise and I went on the Fat Fast. I lost 6 lbs.
