Newbie here looking for weight loss buddy
Hi Everyone, I just found this site today. I am looking to lose about 90 lbs. I am at my highest weight ever, 263 lbs. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and am borderline diabetic. I need to lose it for my health and also for myself. I miss being average weight!! I hope to make some friends here and hopefully find a weight loss pen pal buddy.

Hi Lorena,
As no one is answering your post and no one is answering mine, how about we support each other through this weight loss mire. I start this morning and jumped on the scales to see if have put on 5 pounds over the holiday season. That makes me 140 pounds (163.6kg) now and I need to be 110. Like you I am worried about the diabetic side of things. Sugar has always been my nemesis (spelling is not:-)) and I fear the long term effects. I notice I get very sleepy at meal times and could fall asleep before I have finished a normal sized meal (I never do of course, I eat every morsel). Let me know if you think it is a good idea to message each other, although I haven't worked out how to send a private message yet? I would love a low carb pen pal
I logged in today to see if I could find some one on one support, and I think this will be a good place to start.
I have been yo-yoing on my weight for years. I have a failing for carbs, love potatoes, pasta, sweets all of it. But, I feel better and do lose weight when I'm faithful to myself and the lc plan. I didn't do very well today, weekends are the worst for me. I am so weak in my determination. I have diabetes in my family and have lost 2 1st cousins. I would love to join this little group, and I will try to figure out how to send you personal notes too ![]() |

Thanks Mary. Some of us need all the support we can get and I am top of that list with zilch will power. One day at a time - actually,,, three hours at a time is a more realistic view for me to take. The hardest time is always between 4.00pm and bedtime. I have lived through the perfect diet hundreds and hundreds of times - until 4pm and then it all goes out the window (and into my tummy).
I am sure we will drop into your thread from time to time. :-) |

hey ladies, I have found out why we can't do the personal messaging. As new members we have 25 days and 25 posts without the ability to PM. Until then we will have to use this forum, which of course is fine.

The 4 of us in this thread can have our own little support group..how does that sound? If any of you use Yahoo messenger, my screen name on there is rere25
We can try to meet once a week via a Yahoo chat room as a group. Also we can send each other messages via messenger whenever we want. If you 3 are interested in doing this, let's think of a name for our buddy group. ![]() |

Mary already does her own thing and appears to support lots of people, so I think that may be just the three of us for now. As for a name.... give me ten mins to think on that

Thanks!
![]() I started Atkins Induction on January 29th, I haven't weighed yet but I'm pretty sure I'm in ketosis, due to yucky taste in my mouth - sooooo thirsty all of the time but that's good because I just generally don't drink enough water. I had a feeling that drinking lots of water would be a big challenge but if things continue like this it shouldn't be too difficult. I don't have scales in my house, I was saying in another thread that I kind of think that's a good thing though because if I had them here I would be tempted to weigh myself too often. I also struggle with meal planning quite a lot... especially now because I'm just not hungry! I've been living on scrambled eggs for breakfast, and hamburger meat just cooked not even in hamburger form, with salads for the other two meals. Yikes! I like "Cute Chicks in the Making" and "Here's to Health". |

First day over and done with
That wasn't too bad. I don't know if it was a perfect day, but it went something like this...
2 rashers streaky bacon and one poached egg 1 cup of tea with a little milk (I know it isn't on the list, decaf coming up today) 185gm tin tuna in oil with lemon and cracked pepper 3 x french snap beans and 1 snap pea 2 cups tea 3 cups mesculan lettuce with a heap of hapuka (fresh fish). 1 cup of tea I only managed two glasses of water all day. The water is a big challenge for me, but i will work on that one a little more today. I think it is good not to have scales, i am a terror and get on mine every day which probably isn't the best thing to do. Hope you all did well yesterday also, being a Monday and all. ![]() |

Hey!
Let's see, yesterday I did fine - although my menus as such are probably going to bore your pants off ![]() I've been pretty much existing on eggs for breakfast, ground beef (mince) for lunch and supper and salads. I think about trying to shake things up but I feel kind of like, well... I'm staying on plan and these foods taste good to me right now so maybe I better not mess with a good thing? I bought an exercise plan that I was mentioned here on the message boards, it's called "Shapely Secrets" - that name makes me laugh so much! Anyway, I started that yesterday and let me tell you, it's the ODDEST thing... I am no fan of exercise, not even when I was smaller, and after just one day of doing two 7 minutes work-outs, today, I have found myself craving those exercises, so, I've done them again! A couple of times!! Wooo Hoooo ![]() I'll get out of the house when my kids get home from school and go for a nice walk and get my heart rate up. Here's what I've eaten so far today - Breakfast - 3 eggs, scrambled with melted cheddar cheese, just a small sprinkling on top for meltiness. Lunch - Ground beef, seasoned with Mrs. Dash Original Flavor and a salad with Bleu Cheese dressing. No Supper so far as it's 2:00 in the afternoon here. I've been doing pretty good with my water intake although I feel there is always room for improvement in that area, I would like to work my way up to about a gallon per day. |

You sound like an angel in the eating department Stephie.... and along with the exercises you will be sphelt like in no time. Do tell about this exercise programme that makes you WANT to do exercises. I haven't embarked on an exercise routine yet, but need to start this week, especially as I have entered myself into some kayaking and waking/running evenets. I honestly can't run to my letterbox (about 100 yards), i huff and puff and almost die.
I am going to keep a track of calories as well as carbs as I am a firm believer in keeping calories to at 1000 while trying to lose weight. Another thing to put on my list of things to tackle. |

LOL @ "Do tell about this exercise programme that makes you WANT to do exercises."
![]() Ok, well... it's called Shapely Secrets, I'm not sure if it's against the Bulletin Board rules to link you there so e-mail me at stephiebug@gmail.com if you want a link or just Google "Shapely Secrets". I find the name quite silly but I did some research here and read lots of people saying it really works, I thought you have to order it online but I found it at Walmart, you being in Oz (you are Down Under, aren't you?) you may have to order it online but it's not terribly expensive... anyway, it's basically isometric exercise Isometric exercise - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - you just tighten, hold, release, repeat - specific groups of muscles. You can totally feel it, I was happily surprised! I'm noooooooooooo angel, I assure you! I've just been lucky with cravings and I pray that I'll continue to be lucky. |

I also just joined the YWCA gym and pool program. I got my pass in the mail today to access the building. I will be going there probably tomorrow or Thursday for my first workout. I hope to get to the gym at least 3 times a week, and will do some in home exercises as well.

The group sure increased
Wow, nice to see all the posts.
Getting started is easy, it is the long haul that is difficult. I like the idea of a group. Monday, did really pretty good today compared to the weekend. I had a Atkins shake for breakfast heavy whipping cream in my half/calf coffee chicken w/mixed veggies and a stick of cheese for lunch and a Meatball with sauce and celery for dinner decaf tea to follow Talk about boring, oh well was so much better than over the weekend I have been logging in my progress on fitday.com I like that the site breaks out the carbs/fat/calories and gives you a journal to document your feelings too. I have not had my water like I should, that is my downfall. I drink when I get home from work and then I'm up all night. I usually walk/jog on the treadmill or workout on the eliptacle, but have not been able to do that because of my schedule. You all sound like your hanging in for the day, stay positive We can do this. |

Exercise
Good to see you all doing some sort of exercise (I am sure you will make time soon Lorena). I now feel shamed into doing something, even if only a slow walk/jog type thing for 30 minutes.... Hold me to it ladies!
Lorena, Your food sounds pretty good to an Atkins induction kid.... yummo! After a few weeks of induction I intend to go back to limiting calories and trying to continue to eliminate junk food. Paul McKenna has an excellent book out which deals with the mental side of losing weight. It really is good and has only 4 golden rules, which are something like: Only eat when you are hungry Only eat until you are full Enjoy every second of what you are eating and chew it thoroughly Eat whatever you like within the other three rules |

hmm..
anyone mind of I join? This site is still a bit confusing to me, but since everyone was sharing what they ate.. yesterday i had:
breakfast: low carb drink (tasted horrible- won't get generic again lol) lunch: eggs bacon and turkey sausage, 4 oz orange juice snack: cubed cheese diet Dr Pepper dinner: low carb enchiladas Diet Dr. pepper midnight snack: vienna sausages, cubed cheese, banana peppers had about 6 glasses of water through out the day. I am scared to fail this diet.. i feel like it's make or break time. I'm excited at the prospect of having support though! How old is everyone? I'm 22, have 2 young kids, and i need to lose a total of about 80 pounds. |
