51 with 100 lbs to lose!
Hi - I'm a 51-year old married professional female looking for someone to be a diet buddy. I'm a grandmother of nine -- yes, nine (6 girls, 3 boys - ages 16 to 4 months)... mother of two daughters.... Happily married for 32 years --
I weigh 241.8 lbs and would like to lose 100 pounds by December 25, 2008! That will be my Christmas present to myself next year. I travel extensively, so dieting is hard -- but I think with a buddy, we could really help each other out. I'm just getting started.... Any takers?? |

I'm giving Dr. Rob Thompson's excellent Low Glycemic Load plan a good, honest try. Starting right now, in fact!

Well Violet -- Thank you for agreeing to be my diet buddy.
Sounds like you have been working on this effort for a while... As I mentioned, I'm just getting started - what are your stats, where did you start at in terms of weight, whats your total loss, what's your goal, what's your exercise routine? I love Montreal, I'm in snowy NE Indiana (we got a total of 15" of snow this weekend). I'm not familliar with the program you reference - where can I find some info on it? I haven't decided on a specific program -- other than be much more aware of what I'm eating and making exercise a scheduled part of my activities. I'd also like to start a diet journal - to make myself much more aware of how I use food -- I tend to be a compulsive eater. I eat when I'm bored, happy, scared, tired, excited -- you name it.Your right, 1956 was a great year -- I'm an Aries (born in April) - how about you? Do you work outside the home? I take it you have 1 son? How old? |

Dedee62 -- Sounds like we are very much alike... I'm also planning to start seriously January 1st!! Although, I am using this time to before January 1st to break into the new routine -- rather than start cold turkey on January 1st.

![]() I just started on December 20th, I weighed 241.8 as of today I weighed 238.4 -- so I've lost 3.4 pounds. Only 96.6 pounds to go!! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. We had all nine grandkids, both daughters and our 2 son-in-laws -- so we had a TERRIFIC holiday. AND even though we baked and decorated 36 dozen cookies on Christmas Eve -- I have only eaten TWO!! I still have not had a chance to exercise -- but plan to start first thing in the morning. I own a treadmill and that's what I will start with. We have a BoxFlex Sport also, but I've never messed with it -- so I'll have to figure out how to use it!! Please keep in touch... Is there a way to communicate real time like through Yahoo messenger? It would be fun to have an opportunity to chat live sometimes for support and encouragement. |

I am 52 and a grandpa of 6, can I join ? I am starting tomorrow , (story of my life, have done it all including a 45 day modified fast, lost 70 lbs , have put it all back on. Have studied alot about low carb, this is got to work this time. Let me know if I can join? also doing this is all new to me, so let me know if I make mistakes posting.

Hi GrandMa. Just wanted to see how you are doing today. Hope you will have a great New Year.
We have two grand children, a boy 10 and a girl 8. They are my two angels. My hubby and I just moved here to Pensacola, Fla. to be near them and our daughter. She is our only child and we wanted to spend more time with them before we get to old and can't walk or do anything anymore. We were living in Jacksonville, Fla. all the way across the state from them, but now we are only minutes from them. We baby sit some for them but most times she takes them where she goes. Buts its so nice being closer to them. My eating is going better since yesterday, I messed up big time at Thanksgiving and Christmas but am getting back on track again. Doing what I use to do years ago when I was losing like planning my meals more carefully and not over eating. Will check back in later with you ok.

Happy New Year Everyone!!
Ok, Everyone -- it's now the New Year -- 2008 it's OUR YEAR.... To all of you who have replied (Violet Skye, Pcola Girl, Dedee62, butternut, dr pepper) LET's GET STARTED!! I would like to suggest that we all (at least the six of us) meet in the chat room on Sunday evenings at 9:00 pm (Indiana time) to see how our week went and to get motivated for the new week. If we get enough participants we can create our own room....And I'm flexible on the date and time -- we can see what works best for our group!!
I'm open to any suggestions for ways to support each other. I also thought of getting a group together for "virtual exercise." For example, we could all agree to exercise on Mon, Wed and Fri at the same time say 8-8:30, and then get together in the chat room at 8:45 to talk about what we did, how we feel, etc. I think that could be a motivator for me. Again, I'm open to any suggestions.... I'm totally 100% dedicated to being much healthier and happier and LIGHTER for Christmas 2008!! Also -- new buddies are always welcome!! Diann |

Thanks for the support , I met with the Dr- all is well , he was supportive in doing a low carb way of life, I need to ck in with him monthly, which will also be a big reason to get this weight off.

Day 3 and I've just been eating like crazy. All low or no carb, but seems like way too much food. I did just start period today so hope that's all it is because I don't see how I can lose any weight eating this much.

Dr. Pepper --- Glad everything is good and that you ready to begin. In terms of weigh-in, I think everyone has their own preferences. I, personally, prefer to weigh myself daily first thing in the morning, right after I shower -- it gives me motivation and determination throughout the day to know where I was when the day began.
Luckiangel --- I too enjoyed chatting with you, hope to catch you again soon. I did go out and look at the Century Thread -- looks like a good group. Dedee62 --- I'm just starting to learn about LC, can you give me an example of what your typical day's meals consist of. You mentioned you were getting so much food -- can you share what you included? When I weighed in this morning, I was at 234.7!! January 7th Update
Well, I'm still in Las Vegas and still doing great!! Avoiding lots of temptations...had a dinner meeting last night at a great Italian restaurant in the Venetian. And was able to NOT eat the bread, potatoes, pasta and even skipped the tiramisu dessert (opted for coffee instead)....
It's paying off -- today the scales say 224#!! (Of course, this is according to the hotel scales -- so it will be interesting to see what my scales say when I get home on Friday). I walked 3.5 miles yesterday -- I bought a pedometer (it's easy to throw in the suitcase and I can walk anywhere I travel)... So that will be my exercise of choice.... Today, I'm at 2.75 miles and I'm not done -- I'll be talking a walk after dinner (gotta gamble a little!!!) Started 12/22/07 at 240.8 January 7, 2008 was 224 (a loss of 16.8 lbs) Goal 140 (84 lbs to go!!!) Diann |
