Greetings, All--
Yeah, Miss A, the SB book is good; the diet has a lot more fiber which is great, and a lot more food choices except for the first two weeks, where it is similar to Atkins except you get more vegetables. I think Y has done so well with her fruit because she combines it with a high fiber (and protein?) morning shake, so it keeps things moving, and you get all day to burn off the sugar. If you don't have a blood sugar problem you can probably handle the fruit. D, speaking of fruit, the raspberries have low sugar and a lot of fiber, so they should not make your sugar go up if the other berries don't. My problem even with berries sometimes is that they can make me hungrier, even that small amount of sugar! ![]() Can't believe that hairdresser "friend,"--as they say, with friends like that, who needs enemies! Maybe you're better off getting your hair done somewhere else, D! ![]() Speaking of crummy relationships, my dd definitely will not be wanting out of this one, I imagine. She's likely to cling on no matter how bad it gets, hoping he'll shape up. He seemed like an intelligent, responsible person when I (briefly) met him, so I am greatly saddened to hear he is mean. I am praying for a miracle. Thanks for the recommendation on the book, Y. Dd is not good at taking advice, though. (Are any of them? )E, how fun is that to go off to a book sale--did you walk? What town are you staying in? I haven't been to a library in years; order books off the internet, and don't read as much as I'd like to. What do you like to read? Let us know what you bought. Y, are you actually eating raw broccoli and cauliflower for snack? Girl, you are one tough cookie! That is hard to get down, unless you smother it in dip, of course. How's the exercise going today?Sorry you are having water retention problems, D. Chinese food will do it every time. The last time we ordered it, I asked them to prepare it with low salt and low oil, and it was much better. Doesn't work for buffets, though! Sc, love your picture! You look so cute! Is this in your old or new house? C, hope things are going better for you today. Have you been to see your cousin yet, or is that still coming up for you? Maybe some good can come out of a setback, because this morning I rode the bike for 20 minutes, then did other exercises for another 1/2 hour while watching music videos! Then I had only a grilled chicken breast with salad greens for lunch. Then I went to the store and loaded up on low fat lunch meat and cheese and almonds so I will have plenty of appropriate snacks. I am still determined to fit into my lower size jeans within two weeks from now! I am really going to try to hit it hard with the exercise and mostly protein and greens the next two weeks. It's got to work! Matter of fact, I'm going in to ride the bike another 10 minutes right now! I probably won't be able to walk tomorrow, but if that happens, I won't be able to eat, either! Catch ya later, T. |

I see I just missed a few posts while I was posting, or something. D, the puppies sounds so adorable! I agree with you, you may need a little more time. Also, may I suggest researching a little about what breed of dog will suit your situation the best? Beagles are the cutest puppies, but you know, they are hounds, and they tend to have a terrible baying type of bark when they grow up! I know because our neighbor has one, and it is sooo irritating! They are just so cute though, hard to resist! I know you will find the one that is just right for you!
![]() Yum, D, the zucchini pizza sounds so delicious! A great idea, and now that I have my pizza sauce and cheese, I can try it! Sounds better than my chicken and green beans covered with cheese and ketchup! Y, I don't know how you managed to not eat that pizza! Gal, you keep us in stitches! ![]() E, sounds like you had a great shopping excursion, and fun on ebay! Well, I better get in there and get on the bike like I said I was going to! T. |

Just dumped the 2 empty pizza boxes out-I see the guys had no problem polishing them off. S3 kept saying cmom mom you can have one pc, I explained I could not ( a Fri. nite before weigh in ) BF looked handsome when he came home - all dolled up in his interview clothes - then he had to show me his gym deal and he seems serious about getting in shape since he started the choles. meds. Monday he has a colonoscopy so I dread Sunday nite
Looks like your hitting the exercise T Now are we talking about the new jeans you ordered that we are going to get into shortly ? These bags of raw veggies were on sale last week so I bought three, I dont have any junk food at work-had to turn a pc. of cake down Fri. How did the reunion go D ? Was it a big drunk fest 30 years ! Checking Out South Beach!
Hello!
Well, thank you for the pro-diet-change advice everyone. When the library opened at 1700hrs yesterday, I squelched down there in the pouring rain to see if they had the book. Pam the librarian (graceful pretty blonde size 10) was enjoying baby pictures with one of her customers, but dropped them to listen to my request. I asked for The South Beach Diet, and instantly looked round to see the beady eyes of library-users surreptitiously peering from behind the rows of books to evaluate how fat I was.... One of them spoke up to recommend a hula-hoop instead. I checked South Beach online when I got home, and via a link from one of the sites found out what a flexi belt is. I've seen this gadget mentioned here before, but thought it was something stretchy. Now I know! Another thing that really should make it across the Atlantic! Denise, how did the wild child reunion go? If you stuck to drinking water only, that is incredibly strong willed of you. What alcohol does everyone find they can have just a sip of? I can have a little wine and feel all right, but I confess, beer goes straight to my head, and if I have just a can of the lager I like (OK, used to drink) a voice in my head says "More! More! Have another!" which shows there is something addictive for me in its composition. Deadly. Yellow Hair, well done with the 3lbs loss! Goodness, you are doing well. Many congratulations!! Teresa, I think I may have some raspberries today. I agree that Denise may not want to risk that hairdresser - this is serious stuff! - you want your hair stylist to love you and be totally wanting you to look fabulous, and I'm feeling that this hairdresser may well be harbouring bitter feelings... Elaine, well done at the book sale! One can never have too many books. What do you like to read? I learned to read very early, and apart from devouring many unsuitable books from my parents' bookshelves - books about the war which I don't think they realised I could reach - my mother introduced me to many of her own favourites which were American, e g. Anne of Green Gables (whoops, Canadian) and all the subsequent Anne books, Little Women, ditto, What Katy Did ditto, and of course, Little Lord Fauntleroy in which the adorable well-behaved American child triumphs over the miserable bad-tempered British... ![]() ![]() ![]() The thing was, I was too young to realise that they were not actually contemporary books. I longed to sell my hair as Jo March had done, and have a dress with puffed sleeves like A of GG! The thing from America however which I couldn't bear was Billy Graham crackling and booming from the radio every night when my mother did the ironing. But even the ironing was put down for a bit when The Lucy Show came on. Oh, funny! Slendercate, it's lovely to see how you look! I'm going to ask TRoATU to take a picture of me today and I will fathom out how to make it into an avatar. Here is yesterday's menu. Breakfast - scrambled eggs Lunch - some sautéed liver with mushrooms, lemon and parsley Dinner - a pork casserole with watercress salad and tomatoes. However, from today, things will get more South Beachily interesting. Lots of love and thanks to all ![]() |

Wow, congrats on the 3 lb loss YH!!
![]() ![]() I knew all that healthy eating & tons of exercise this week would pay off!! T, awesome job on all the exercise you're doing! E, I'm swollen too. Was down yesterday afternoon but now it looks like I've stayed the same this week. This darn heat has really done some damage to me! (Never mind the Chinese food!! ) But you did so well with your eating and exercise, I'm sure once you get rid of that excess water, you'll see a loss. C, sorry you have a funeral to attend today. Is it for a close friend or client?? My thoughts are with you. Seems like you've had a very rough week. I hope it calms down some for you now!Miss A, I think you'll find success with South Beach. SC, how is South Beach working out for you and dh? Have you started it yet?? Or changed to a different plan? I did pretty good at the reunion last night. We packed a cooler with dh's Chillada's (clammato juice and beer ) and a couple of bottles of water for me. I also had dh mix me up a margarita using my 0 carb, 0 calorie, 0 fat mixer and a little tequila. I had maybe 1/4 of a water bottle of the margarita, if that, not much at all but it let me feel like I was holding onto a drink like the rest of the crowd. I think I did pretty good with the eating too. Lots and lots of munchies there but I stuck with raw broccoli, cauliflower, a little dip, and a few slices of deli meat/cheese. The rest of the crowd was gorging on slopping joes, chips and dips, crackers & sausage, corn salsa (which looked really good but corn is SO high in carbs), plus LOTS of drinking going on. I was satisfied with what I had so I was happy. Someone had a 1978 yearbook & that was fun to pass around. Dh looked like such a babe back then! Or do I mean baby?! ![]() Today is Windmill Days. I will be setting up a booth there this morning (in Hyannis, the next town over). My sorority is sponsoring the Windmills Photo Contest so I'll be taking in the entries and hanging them up and then will sit in the hot sun a few hours while ppl mill around and vote on the photos. Our sorority will give a $25 cash prize and the winning photo will be on next year's flyer and buttons. Dh is going to set me up with our patio umbrella so I will have some shade and a couple of my sorority sisters have promised to sit with me thru the day. I will pack a cooler with lunch since the food at these things are fatty sausages, beer or sweetened lemonade, pies, pies, pies, did I say PIES?? (T, you would die!! Soooo many homemade yummy pies --- even me, who doesn't have a sweet tooth, has a hard time with it!!)Anyway, tonight is the alumni dinner where they have all the class reunions that are being held this wkd get together for one big meal, I think it's $15 each, but usually a good meal and they give out awards and take pictures, etc. We usually only go every 5 yrs so haven't been since 2003. It will be fun but another food challenge. This is such beef and potato country!!! ![]() Yesterday's menu: B-coffee, drink potion L-zucchini parmesan, 2 turkey meatballs S-sm scoop ham salad D-broccoli, cauliflower, ranch dip, several sl lunchmeat & cheese So what are everyone else's plans for the wkd?? DLast edited by Denise78; 06-28-2008 at 07:59 AM.. Reason: added menu so I wouldn't drive everyone crazy by writing another post!! LOL |

Puppies
E, I took your advice and started looking online for some rescue shelters in the area. All of them are a good 5 to 6 hours from us but dh agreed that it would be worth making a big drive if we could save a doggie's life! There's lots of listings and lots of photos so I may even be able to draw ds1 into this if he thought he was saving the life of a dog or puppy. Thanks for your suggestion -- it was a good one!!

Hi, yall,
My hair is naturally curly, the only thing left over from childhood about me except for my skinny feet inherited from Dad's side of the family. My hair is naturally medium ash blond with red highlights in the summer. I made the avatar at work yesterday, colleague knew how, so I posted it after she took the photo. miss a- south beach is a good plan, but after reviewing it, I feel the later phases might be too high in carbs for me. I decided to stay on Protein Power, the diet by the EAdes, but at the higher carb level, 55-60, day. You might check out their site, Protein Power. Go to discussions or forums to get the low down. I occasionally post there as Claudette. I don't post as much as I did because the support isn't as intimate as it is here in this group, which is what I need to have and to hopefully give. I agree breakfast is important to me, but I leave at 6.15am, so I take a shake with me on the way to work with lc toast or juice. Yh, congrats on the 3lbs lost. Glad your BF is getting into shape. When my Dh decided to jjoin me, it made it easier for me. T- with all the exercise, you will fit into your jeans soon. C- sorry about the funeral today. Stressful week, hope next is calmer for you. E- don't worry about the gain. When you exercise, it will all be gone. D- sounds like you did well at the reunion. Isn't it fun to see how we looked in the yearbooks? Proud of you for avoiding all the temptations. Well, got to go hit the new house as I have neglected it for the old. Yesterday's menu: b-whey protein shake w/ added fiber, lc toast, tea s- egg, slice of bacon from the canteen at work with a colleague l- cucumber & sliced tomato w/ lc dressing, sf jello, lettuce roll-ups with turkey & pepperjack cheese s-slice cheese, few dill pickles d- (took to in-laws) bbq beef, chopped, sausage, T sauce, (too sugary), littel slaw, (also too sugary), pinto beans w/ jalepinos, dill pickles, watermelon for desert. Well, will post later. WEIGH IN TODAY: 3LBS GONE FROM THE RECENT WEIGHT GAIN! |

First let me congratulate everyone on their weight loss. What a bunch of losers we are
Everyone is just so great with the support.I agree SC this is a great group!Istarted out posting with the over 50 crowd but this group seems to be more involved. I need to cut out some salt.I salt just about everything. My dh gets on to me because I salt stuff before I taste it,but I know it will taste better with more It's not helping withmy water retention however so I will make an effort. D,glad you did so well at the reunion and now you've got the festival to get through! You are really motivated to getting this weight off.I'm so glad you may get your next dog at the shelter.Their are so many animals out there that need a home. YH,Great job on not eating the Pizza thrilled when you got on the scales. A, you crack me up I'm so glad you found us.Most of the books I read are just current day novels, but I will read just about anything.I like Nora Roberts,I'm sure you have heard of her.Sue Miller,Anita Shreve,Eliz.Berg to name a few.I read alot of Oprah's Book Club stuff.Good luck on the new diet plan. SC,sounds like you're back on track.Stay with us and you will continue to do good ![]() C, Sorry to hear someone you cared about has passed away.A funeral procession went by us on the motorcycle the other day and I had to shed a tear.My dh said"you didn't even know them" but I said somebody loved them and will miss them.Hope the rest of your day goes well ![]() |

I have done absolutely nothing today as I now have this rib pain. I believe its costochondritis as I have had it before. An inflamation between your ribs, hopefully I can find some pills around here. I think it may have been the laps I did yesterday as it was all side stokes with zoomers and gloves. Otherwise ill call the dr. Monday because if I remember correctly it took a long time. Always something, huh ? I just hate to have the weight come back after working so hard this week.
D-I am so glad you and dh are thinking of getting a dog from a rescue place-there are so many unwanted animals it just breaks my heart. I use to volunteer at a rescue place and it was so sad. The reunion sounds like it was fun and now windmills and dinner ! E-I switched out all the shakers here with the lite salt and no one knows the diff. SC-congrats on the 3 lbs-way to go. Miss A-hope you find the right diet-I like WW because I can eat what I want-just not much and im a coffee addict. They also have a core plan where you can eat as much as you want from a certain list but I basically do the points plan in my head now. I have modified tho because if I eat all the requirements and use extra points I wont lose like I have been. Sorry about the funeral C. Well now I am going to lay down again, ughh. |

YH,it probably was all the extra stuff you did in the pool that is causing you pain. That sucks! Just when you've got your groove going
I worked out with a elastic bandfor the first time the other day and my neck and shoulders were killing me.I haven't done that again take it easy and maybe it won't be as bad as last time. |

Thought I'd jump on quick here. Back from Windmill Days. It was a smaller crowd this year -- very windy day and it's the Rodeo Nationals this wkd so that kept a lot of ppl away. But we still had a good amount of ppl and great musical groups to entertain us.
Dh helped me and one of my sorority sisters set up the photo contest and then he just milled about with his buddies while my ss and I sat at our booth. We ran the contest till about 2 pm and then tallied up the votes, announced the winner and got out of there. Dh and I will go back at 6 pm for his alumni dinner. They have a street dance tonight too but I don't know if we will stay in for that or not. Depends on the weather I think. I got a slight sunburn being out in the sun today because we couldn't put the umbrella up with the strong winds but at least it wasn't sweltering heat like it's been lately. Oh and the winner of the contest -- what a gorgeous photo of a windmill in the sunset with a couple of cowboys on horseback so the windmill, cowboys & horses were black against the brilliant oranges, pinks and purple background. Was my favorite but we had a lot of really good ones this year -- about 15 in all -- so it was a tough choice. I was good with my eating at Windmill Days -- brought a hardboiled egg and string cheese with me and of course, bottled water. Got home and saw that ds1 had left me with one pc of zucchini parmesan (he loved it, didn't even know it was low-carb!) so I ate that and a couple of turkey meatballs for a late lunch. Stepped on the scale again, figuring it's late in the day, I just drank a bottle of water and ate, so I should be up several lbs, but it was still the same as earlier, so maybe that means it will drop in the morning!! ![]() YH, I am sorry to hear of your rib pain. I hope you can get on some pain pills or muscle relaxers or whatever you need to fix it. Yep, it's always something. Just keep at your healthy eating and hopefully that will compensate if you have to take it easier on the exercise this week. Remember -- NO POTATO CHIPS!!!! SC, congrats on getting those 3 lbs off again!! I think those "repeat" lbs are sometimes worth more getting off than the originals cuz you've already seen them once and you are sick & tired of 'em and so thrilled when they are gone again!! I had a couple of those this week and was hoping they'd be gone by today and I was so happy they were!!Yep E, I think this is the only place where we won't smack you in the head for calling us a bunch of losers, thank you very much!!! But seriously, I attribute all of my weight loss to the wonderful support I get here. And....drum roll... I am only 1.5 lbs away from a 50 lb loss so please, if I even THINK of Chinese this week, please, please, please kick some sense into me!!!! ![]() T & C & Miss A, hope you are enjoying your wkd so far!! Dh is taking a quick nap and I just may go join him!! ![]() Love ya gals!! D |

Glad you had such a fun time at your dh's reunion, D! It's great you've figured out a way to enjoy margaritas and go to all the social gatherings that you do and stay on your plan. I could not do that. Surrounded by pies--OMG! You deserve an award for not succumbing to that temptation! Great idea to take a cooler with your lunch in it.
![]() The windmill photo sounds so beautiful. With it being so windy there, I can see now why there are so many windmills in NE! Where we used to live in the desert, they filled the valley with them to supplement the electricity. They look awful, but in these days I guess we really need all the help with utilities we can get. ![]() It will be interesting to hear what happens when you go to the rescue shelter. I hope you find a wonderful dog that will be sooo happy to be rescued and come to be a part of your wonderful family--lucky doggie! ![]() D, are you weighing tomorrow? I know you are going to get that 1 1/2 lb. off very soon, and there's going to be a lot of celebrating around here when you reach that 50 lb. goal! ![]() Y, Congratulations on another 3 lbs. off! That is so awesome--you just keep paring it off! How are the capris fitting now? What size are you in? Yeah, the jeans I am intent on getting into are the smaller ones I ordered. I can get em zipped, but can't sit comfortably in them, that's the challenge! Glad bf has joined a gym--he must have been inspired by you! Can the two of you go together? I'm sad to hear you may have costochondritis. I have chronic rib pain as part of the symptoms of my spondyloarthritis, and have to be careful of what kinds of exercises I do, and I can't sleep on my right side because it gets so painful if I lay on it. You have my sympathy, and I hope it clears up soon and does not become chronic! ![]() SC, when I started out on low carb, I started on the Eades Protein Power. I really liked what they had to say about how it is more natural for us to eat higher protein, and not so many grains--basically the caveman diet. It made a lot of sense to me. And I started feeling better when I ate as they recommended. Staying around 60 or fewer carbs per day is a more realistic goal, and if you are active, you will lose weight in the long run. Congratulations on getting off 3 of those pesky lbs. that wanted to come back! E, sounds like a diuretic wouldn't be a bad idea. Things like asparagus, cucumbers, and spinach help, too. You've been exercising a lot, and that can cause your body to swell and hold water, too. Glad you made a good haul from the library--what fun you'll have reading through your collection! Miss A, I have been watching Anne of Green Gables on PBS the last 3 weeks. I just love it and have been fantasizing about how wonderful it would be to live that old-fashioned romantic country lifestyle! Ahhh...but I am sure if I were living out in the country like that I'd probably last about a week before I was complaining there were no restaurants to go to! Good luck with the SB diet. You can join their website and get lots of menus and all kinds of help. I did it once, but I was not able to lose much weight with it, I seem to only be able to lose on very low carb.C, this has been a somber week for you, hasn't it? I hope things lighten up soon for you! ![]() I went to the gym today, and dh and I ate at the hotel buffet. I only ate meat and salad, no fruit. Rode the bike 15 minutes here before I went, and am going in to ride another 10 min or so. I am sore, but I don't care. I really want to get into those jeans! I wore a pair to the gym that I haven't worn for a couple of years, so that made me feel good. I'm going to wear those this week to help me stay on track. They are tight, but I can sit down in them, and they make me look skinnier! Here's yesterday's menu:B - egg, spinach, sausage L - salad, grilled chicken breast D - sliced sirloin steak, asparagus S - string cheese, 10 almonds Have a fun Sunday, everyone! Good morning all,
I never got out of the bed Sat. except to answer the door for a delivery of chicken wings. Pain is exactly the same today and found muscle relaxers - im quite positive it was the pool with the stretching and resistance of the zoomers and doing it all on the side. So i was a bad girl and had chicken wings. Your Sat. sounded so nice D and I can't wait for your 50 pound milestone which will be this week ! Glad you made it to the gym again T-great going ! This rib thing happened in the past twice I believe, mine is on the left side and yes could not lay on that side. Most of the capri's im in are an 8 but they all are cotton with some spandex so you got the stretch factor that helps alot. BF and I will not go to the same gym, his plan is to go after work to the one near his work. If a gym is not en route home for me during the work week I would never go. H - when you mentioned the stretch band initially that scared me - its so frustrating - everytime I really get moving its something, usually the back. BF has to start drinking that stuff at noon today for the colonoscopy, we should be a real pair, HA ! Sat am-yogurt pm-chicken wings ( garlic parmesan ) apprx. 8 (ughhh) snacks- fruiti, few pretzel rods |

Good Morning! YH,so sorry you are hurting
Don't worry about the hot wings. You're not eating a whole lot in the scheme of things. It does make it much harder to get back on track with the exercise when you've had a break, but I know you're determined so that probably won't be a factor for you, plus you have us to prod you when you feel better if you start sliding The wosrt part of the colonoscopy is the prep so if bf can drink the awful stuff he's got it made. No exercise for me today.I take Sun.off as dh is ready to hit the road on the MC .We will go out and eat breakfast and go wherever the road takes us![]() |

Good morning ladies!!
![]() Sorry to hear you are feeling so badly YH. Do you have room for me there too?? Sitting on metal folding chairs all day yesterday and last night....I can barely walk today, lots of aches and pains. Hopefully just minor ones that a couple of ibruprofens will take care of, so I can't complain too much. I hope you are feeling better soon. I don't envy bf today -- poor guy. I think you will hear just a tiny bit of whining tonight, so poor YOU too. (E, somehow, with a colonoscopy, I can't see the night before being the worst of it all -- yikes, just the thought makes me cringe! ) Oh YH, I can have chicken wings on my food plan (as long as they aren't breaded) so I wish you had called me --- I would have helped you eat them! Last night's alumni dinner was nice. The menu was prime rib, baked potato, salad, dinner rolls and a choc cake with mint fudge icing. Needless to say, MY menu was prime rib and salad. I skipped the potato and rolls, and dh ate my cake. I didn't partake in any alcohol but that town doesn't have great water so I had one Diet Coke and then they brought out the ice tea so I drank tea the rest of the night. We didn't go to the street dance so we were home fairly early. Ds1 went to the dance though and that worried me because they had a big beer garden there. Lots of drinking during Windmill Days and where he just turned 21 in May, this is the first year he's been able to join in so I was afraid it might be too much of a celebration. He called me from his friend's house as they were headed out the door and fortunately, he is one to listen to me (opposite of his brother!) and agreed that he shouldn't come home after the party. His friend rents a house right down the street from the big party so the 2 of them walked to the dance and then ds1 slept over his friend's house last night, no driving at all. Whew. He just got home now (8:15 am) and said he's off to bed, he only got a few hours sleep last night (or rather, early this morning). I remember those rockin' and rollin' days!! Oh to be young again!! Nah, I'll take coming home at a decent hour and watching tv with my dh anyday. ![]() I found these great big beef ribs on sale so we are cooking those up today. Oh and a big pork roast. I'll slow-cook that all day and we'll have pulled-pork later on. I'll make cole slaw (with Splenda) and the guys can have some baked beans too. Sounds like a nice-weather bbq meal, doesn't it?? Dh and I can have the leftovers this week and then I won't have to cook so much -- that's the best part!! ![]() Yesterday's menu: B-coffee, drink potion S-1 hardboiled egg, 1 string cheese L-zucchini parmesan, 2 turkey meatballs, sm scoop ham salad D-prime rib, salad S-sm scoop ham salad Water-64+ oz Happy trails today, E!! What a nice Sunday thing to do --- open road, wind on your backs, just you and dh. Hope you have a great day!!T, our windmills here don't supplement electricity and are very pretty. They are in the hills and pastures to run water for the cattle so they are not clumped together but rather just one windmill for a great big space of land, with a water tank around it so the cattle and horses can drink. Ppl out here own thousands and thousands of acres so it's the only feasible way to water their hundreds and hundreds of head of cattle. Oh and I weigh everyday, every hour, T. But I only "officially" weigh in on Saturday mornings. So if...WHEN...I lose that 1.5 lbs, it will make it in the record book on Saturday. If I can't control myself, I may tell you ahead of time. I like hitting those big milestones, they give you a huge incentive to push on! Even with my little stalls as of late, I only started this WOE in February, so a 50 lb loss in under 5 months is not too bad, especially when I think that I could be sitting at the same weight or higher these last 5 months if I hadn't started eating healthier and exercising, know what I mean? Not that I am tooting my own horn....well okay, I guess I am, but I'm in the 200's now and it won't be long before I am in the low 200's and then <gasp> in the 100's and then I will be jumping in YH's pool with her and making only a very small splash! ![]() SC, I did South Beach for the first couple of weeks to get all those sugar toxins out of my body -- no fruit, breads, potatoes, pasta, rice, etc. After that, I went onto my own version of low carb because with my Diabetes, I cannot have some of the things SB allows, so I am following my own "stricter" version now. I need to keep my daily carbs under 30. But just doing that first couple of weeks with SB, I tell ya, it's a jump-starter for sure and does give you a good loss to start off your new way of eating. And it got rid of those cravings I had for high-carb foods like breads and potatoes. So it might not be a bad thing for you to try out, just to get you going. Well ladies, I think I've run out of things to say. I know, I know, hard to believe. Hope everyone is enjoying their wkd! DLast edited by Denise78; 06-29-2008 at 08:43 AM.. |

Drifting...
Hello girls!
Well, yesterday I got TRoATU to take a picture of me clutching the punnet of strawberries I'd just bought, and if he wasn't now deep in the Sunday paper, I 'd be pleading with him to help me establish it as an avatar. I looked at it and winced. Talk about chubby chops. I've always longed for lovely sculptured cheekbones. Still, a little Estée Lauder blusher helps things! Thinking of Estée Lauder reminds me! Do you remember her fabulous house model Karen Graham at the beginning of the 70's? Actually it was 1975 - I'd been looking at a picture of KG lying in the sunshine with a long silk scarf twined around her top like a sort of beautiful bandeau bra, and I realised with a horrible shock that I, with my enormous bosom , would never be able to do that! of despair! Later that day, I marched into the Staff Health Dept of the hospital where I was training and asked boldly for an appt with a plastic surgeon. I was so determined! I will always be grateful to Estée Lauder for that inspiration.Hope you're all having a good Sunday! Yellow Hair - oh, poor you with the intercostal pain! I remember another friend with the same thing, and it was very painful. She tried rubbing on Voltarol gel, much used by athletes, and it didn't work. OW! Let's hope you are improving. But think of that brilliant 3lb loss - Hope you too feel a bit better Denise. Is a sorority the women friends with whom you were at school? Like a sisterhood? Imagine resisting all that delicious food at the dinner! You did so well. 1.5lbs to go before reaching another milestone, too! Have you decided to find a new hairdresser? "What Katy Did"! That book was responsible for me trying to be a better kinder person as a child just like Cousin Helen recommended - but I also longed for some horrible catastrophe to overwhelm my parents so that I could be in charge; the reins of the household gathered into my small but capable hands... Elaine, I used to work in an o/p clinic which did lots of colonoscopies, and it was standard procedure to give the poor patient loads of analgesia (pethidine) + relaxing diazemuls, which cleverly removed much of the memory of the procedure. All the same, despite it being a wonderful diagnostic tool, it's unpleasant of course! ![]() Goodness, colonic irrigation is the weight loss treatment I really wouldn't fancy. Teresa, I'm going to think of your determination to get back into those jeans as an inspiration. My pair, which I can't haul past my thighs, are still at the front of my wardrobe - but my waist feels a little slimmer. The library will have found me a copy of The South Beach Diet by Friday - in the meantime, I've eaten some fruit. It was so delicious. Strawberries and two smallish mangoes. I wonder how the plan stands on cheese? Oh, and yoghurt? Here is today's menu: Mid-morning: A small avocado Lunch: some cold roast beef, vegetable soup. A small mango. Supper yet to come: Two hamburgers, caesar salad (no croutons for me!) I confess - I have never been to a barbeque where I really enjoyed the food. For many obvious reasons, men want to be in charge of the cooking and they produce things charred on the outside and raw on the inside. Paper plates mean that the whole thing is deposited on your lap, and then it will begin to rain. Anyway - just looked at the time - better start on supper! Hugs and kisses to all! |

Aw, Miss A, we were so looking forward to your avatar! Don't worry about trying to shade any chubby chops for us; we all have them by this age! Hope you get TR...to help you with your pic soon!
![]() As I recall, SB lets you have the lower fat cheese, such as string cheese (mozzarella) and the "Laughing Cow" wedges. And plain yogurt. As far as the fruits go, the berries are allowed, but I think mangoes may have too much sugar for the beginning stages of the plan. But, in the long run, it really mostly does boil down to calories I'm afraid! What are you doing for exercise? Y, sorry to hear you're in pain. But bed is not such a bad place to be on the weekend. Rib pain is so uncomfortable, though. 8 wings does not seem like a pig-out to me, especially considering how little you ate the rest of the day. It's amazing you can stay in bed and not want to eat more--that's when I get really bored and hungry and want to snack. You are doing great on the diet! And size 8--totally awesome! You definitely should get us a new pic! Hope the muscle relaxers help--it was a good idea to get on it right away, so the pain won't have a chance to set in. ![]() D, pork, cole slaw, baked beans has got to be one of the all-time great meals. I'm about to get in my car and drive over to Ashby for dinner--think I can make it in time? Prime rib and salad doesn't sound too bad, either; I'll take that any day! You're doing so great to have all this fabulous food around and only eat what's on your plan! Wow, D, 50 in under 5 months! That is super-awesome! It's happening! E, I imagine you're out enjoying the day on the back of the Bike--sounds so romantic! I wonder what interesting sights you've seen, and what charming place you've stopped for lunch or dinner? What's the weather like back there? I'd love to go visit my parents in Indiana, but I think it's a bit too hot and humid for me right now. C, hope you are having a relaxing Sunday; you need a chance to catch your breath! ![]() We did our usual Sunday thing and went to the Greek place. It was really crowded and noisy today; I could hardly hear what dh was trying to say to me. Had moussaka and salad again. There aren't a lot of lowcarb choices there unless you like strong-tasting lamb or overseasoned chicken! And dh always get baklava, so I have to steel myself. I don't seem to have your willpower D! Came home and rode the bike for 20 minutes, and plan to get on it again after dinner. I think we're having halibut. I feel like I overate a little at lunch because I also had a couple of meatballs, so fish seems like a good choice for dinner. I only have 11 days to go before I have to wear those jeans! Hope you all have had a lovely Sunday, see you tomorrow! T. |

A,will be glad when you get your picture posted.T is right, none of us look like teenagers anymore We are looking at improving ourselves however Do they sell alot of the South Beach products in the grocery stores there, like they do here?I bought some of the SB ranch dressing to dip my carrots in and it was pretty good.T,good job on the exercise. You sound like me.It's a necessary evil.I don't really enjoy it but I do feel so much better when I'm done.Does anybody out there like to exercise?maybe the swimming for YH and D,but I don't like to swim Glad you got to go out for lunch even if it was noisy.I love eating out.We stopped at a nice Restaurant on our ride and I had a HUGE grilled chicken salad.Homemade italian dressing. It was really good.I don't know whats for dinner yet,ate some almonds and not real hungry.YH,hope you're feeling better.I hate laying around in bed when the weather's nice.I like to be outside. Well T, we set the extra place for you but you never did show up for dinner -- it was delicious! Sorry you missed it!
Dh and I made the meal together. He did the pulled-pork, cole slaw and baked beans. I did the ribs, using 2 different flavors of bbq sauce. I also made a blueberry pie for the guys and a fruit salad of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries for me. Mmmm-mmmm! I probably should have had my ribs plain but I didn't use a lot of sauce on them and let the guys add more to their's so hopefully I will be okay. YH, I hope I am not making you wince everytime I mention ribs! Sorry -- that wasn't very funny was it?? Oh well, you know me and my sick sense of humor!! I do hope you are feeling better tonight! Pls notice that I have had that darn drink potion every morning for the last few days!! ![]() Today's menu: B-coffee, drink potion L-lettuce salad w/chicken in it, fruit salad S-1 hardboiled egg, 1 string cheese D-ribs, pork, cole slaw, fruit salad E, sounds like you had such a fun day! I grilled chicken salads. Yum! I wish I could say my exercise is swimming but I can't seem to find someone to go with me on the days I am available. My friend who runs the town pool (in the next town) called me this morning and told me to just come in for adult swimming at 5 pm by myself, she is still working at that time. I'm hoping I will do it tomorrow -- you know how it is to do something like that if you don't have someone going along or if you're not passing by it on your way home from somewhere. By 5 pm, I'm usually pooped out in this heat but that's the only time there are no kids allowed. During the day, that pool is packed with yelling, screaming kids as parents are not obligated to stay since we have lifeguards so most of them drop their kids off and run!! I do love going to Curves but my friend cannot go tomorrow. We plan to go on Tuesday. Congrats on standing firm and not giving into sweet temptations!! You too T, I bet that baklava was hard to pass up! It's a tough thing to do but just think of the rewards of losing all your unwanted weight!! I think YH has lost the most weight, with me coming in 2nd, although I am the biggest one in this group and still have the most to lose (but hopefully not for much longer!). Miss A, I belong to a nationwide sorority of women, nothing to do with school. We are a service organization, volunteering our time to help the community and less fortunate. We hold meetings twice a month from September thru May for the entire chapter and then Executive Board meetings for the officers only during the months of June, July & August. I was president for the last year and was re-elected to serve another term so I will be president again till May of 2009. There are 13 members in our local chapter (was 14 but we just had a member move so we will be recruiting this Fall to replace her) with our youngest member being 28 yrs old and our eldest being 63 (the gal I go to Curves with). Quite a variety of ages but it seems to work very well. We run blood drives for the American Red Cross, hold a children's story hour at the library every other month, do trash pick-ups, supply cookies for drug awareness programs, run food drives or clothing drives for the less fortunate, along with many other service projects and the recent activities I've written about. I absolutely it.SC, have you heard from your son lately? How is he doing? YH, hope your son got thru the wkd okay! Well I think that's it for now. Hope you ladies are ready for another week of good eating and good exercise!! ![]() DLast edited by Denise78; 06-29-2008 at 09:07 PM.. |

Good to have lots of interesting posts to read again. Boy this site is a spirit saver!
Sorry to read that you over did in the pool YH!! But oh the wearing of the size 8 capri's....that is just wonderful ![]() And all this despite the stress issues the past few months. That's the amazing thing for most of us! I'm doing better with that, but only from the angle that the overeating I do is of lc foods....but 2 lc ice cream bars in the afternoon & 2 at nite is obviously not going to work either.... How is ds doing w/his meds--still lowering the dosage. The one good thing about the fussing between him & dbf is that you were really motivated to loose wgt since dbf said you'd never do it w/ds around LOL!! So they both helped you w/o realizing it. Glad to hear that your brother is getting some things in place--the cutting back on the beer can come later.Harley I've tried some of the SB items. Watch the labels though as D & I both found several of them had sugar listed within the first 3 ingredients--what's up with that?? Not having a diabetic problem I can handle the fruit SB allows. Was one of the reasons that I chose it this time instead of straight Atkins. Am also looking forward to the heavy whole grain bread that comes in stage 3. Have several recipes for homemade bread that are very high in fiber & heart healthy. Having the fruit & that kind of bread options later on were what made me think I could do this permanent. Had dinner tonight w/2 girlfriends that I've known for 23yrs & the one made dinner for us (the other gal & I share the same birthday, how odd is that? But she's older ) for our birthday & the recipes all came out of the SB book. All very good. Think you'll like the book A, it's a pretty simple straight forward plan. What is a punnet A? Basket? Pint? Quart? Love this time of year for the berries! But they have gotten so expensive....haven't bought much this year. Any my own gardening days are over. Looking forward to your pic! Had to have ds do my cause I didn't have a clue.... The colonoscopy wasn't all that bad. I'd heard so many jokes about it didn't know what to expect. The product cleaned you out pretty quickly w/o any real cramping & they put you out to do the test--you wake up & know nothing. Just got the anesthesia bill Fri & it was $800, but I only owe $21 of that. Wish you could be knocked out for all your tests...LOL! But men always whine more than women so you may be in for it YH.... D you have been doing so great with avoiding all the bad foods at all your many meals out! Especially all the good desserts....was thinking about that while w/my 2 cousins this past week. Sitting down in restaurants & having them test their sugar, do their insulin according to their #'s and then ordering their meal according to those #'s....wow what a pain in the behind!! Actually I was watching the one cousin thinking gee you are dying just let it go & eat.....but it's such a habit after all these years I don't think she's even thought about how it doesn't really matter anymore...the chemo raises your #'s anyway. You are doing the best, most regular w/your exercising ever I think T! This has got to lead to getting into those jeans!! Sore muscles & all it will be worth it! Think that's been behind YH's great success, all that exercise & of varying styles. Friend today was saying that after so many months Curves wasn't doing anything for her & she was getting frustrated. Kept pushing farther each time w/no real changes--she needed to drop it due to job issues but said she won't go back to it. Have read a lot on how you really need to vary what you are doing for all kinds of toning/burning reasons. D did you cook that zucchini before you layered it up to be pizza? That did sound good. All your bbq-ing & roasting sounds good! Great reheats this week. I'm made a couple really good fish dishes, but you have to reheat them so careful that they aren't dry. I got a little sirloin tip roast on Fri to cook this week. Will do in crockpot. Harley I had to pretty much drop salt w/having higher blood pressure. But the doc recommended Baleine Sea Salt. It's great! (I'd bought just any bottle off the shelf in the past & wasn't really pleased.) Didn't go back to salting everything but somethings never tasted right w/o salt, like tomato slices or cuke slices. Got it at our Kroger's for $2.89. Well it's 11 so I need to get to bed. Have to do laundry in morning so I have clean panties to wear to work It's a 2-11:30pm shift, but at least this client is close to my home! That has only happened about 3 times in 6yrsHave lots of stuff for good salads this week. And some lean proteins like tky sausage for the grill so I should be on track if I can just leave the last of the lc ice cream bars alone ok enough of that. good nite all |

How nice to see all these posts this am.
Miss A - do get on dh to get that pic up. I need to get a new one up also as I have dumped alot since curent pic. You seem to eat very little-the weight shall be falling off shortly. I went for a colonic once at a spa, it was an interesting experience ![]() Its good to see you back C - you had a rough week. I know exactly what you mean about the lc ice cream stuff, yesterday I bought these skinny cow ice cream cones that were a total rip off and we would probably be better off having a scoop of sorbet in the long run by the time you figure it all out. Sounds like you picked up good stuff for this weeks plan I view Curves as my strengh training, teadmill or pool for cardio, and Callanetics for toning. You have to mix it up.Hope your doing better D after sitting in the metal chairs on Sat ! Your barbecue sounded divine, I love bb ribs ! Haven't had those in so long ! Now would you please just get over to the pool, I do all that stuff myself and actually like it (going alone), concentrate on burning those calories. I find I work harder when I am alone. I have dumped alot H - see stats, the lower I get the harder it seems or im just more complacent which is no good. What are you going to do with your fat clothes H, SC, Miss A - the rest of us went thru this topic already. I pretty much have to force myself to exercise too but once im there whether its the floor, pool, or gym im ok. I find it hard after work. Eleven days before the jeans T ! I take it you set a date to get into those-ow exciting. I really dont wear jeans because they are just too hot for Florida but I do plan on buying a skinny tight pr. in the not to distant future. Keep it up on the bike ! Sunday I stayed in bed again all day except for small trip to grocery store, could not handle big loads of groceries. Took my pills and had to listen to bf in the bathroom a 100 x's Ate a bunch of junk but dont think too bad,no time frame but I had a sample of juice plus shake with husk powder ( did not care for-very sweet tasting/chalky ), grapefruit and peach, 2 fruitis, pretzels, few quaker cakes, and shimp without cocktail sauce. Ill check the scale shortly as I usually always exercise on the weekend but the rib thing-actually feels better this moment. I will most likely leave work early today to pick up BF at hospital - he told me S3 offered to take him - they must have spoken for 2 seconds, then he proceeds to tell me S3's friend was kicked out of his house so now we have a stray. I'll see who it is today. Ok, just got on scale and I stayed the same since Sat so thats good. |

Good Morning Everyone
Today is the day I work on This water retention!I read on the web that a tbs.of vinegar in water will help so I'm drinking that now.I know lemon in water is suppose to work also so I'll try both(not on the same day)and see if it works.I'm also going to watch the salt intake and drink lots of water I know alot of what we need to do is habit.I used to drink alot of water but it's something I have to really think about.Like when I go to a restaurant I automatically order Diet Coke, when water would do.I was moaning the blues yesterday because I've only lost 3lbs and dh said this is what I do before I quit the diet.I said not this time,as I have all of you giving me support and keeping me pumped up.I know it takes time and I'm so inspired by all the weight the rest of you have lost! Awesome YH! I didn't realize how much you had lost I may not make that bikini this summer but maybe I won't be hiding from the camera come X-mas. Have a good day, everyone.I'll check in later![]() |

Good morning all!! Nice cool gray morning here
Yeah Harley ya just have to keep telling yourself it's my lifestyle now NOT a diet that I will be quitting when I dump this weight. How often do you weigh?? If you said I have forgotten. T & I have lost pretty slowly but at least I have not throw up my hands & quit!! Started up last June & am down 16lbs. Think it will stay off since I lost it so slowly. Keep thinking I'll speed up the process but life has just been a mess since last Oct. & I keep clinging on by my finger tips instead of speeding up LOL!!!! But am really happy that I haven't given up like I would have in the past. I'd say I exercise better when on my own too YH--but I need that other person to get me there....LOL!! Your mix was what I was trying to explain to my friend. She is still walking after work each day--maybe add some hand weights to that. She is not over weight but just turned 58 & is starting to get "soft" which is new to her as she was always slim naturally. I have a great ww's cocktail sauce recipe if you'd like it. I've had it for 30yrs & always use it as I think it's the best!! Now that we have the Heinz Low Carb Less Sugar ketchup it's even better count wise. Well I need to get that load of laundry going that I was talking about last nite. Plus I know that D is posting right now as it's 9:15 for me & we always cross over in the mornings. Hello D ![]() |

Good morning gals!
![]() A quiet day for me today. Ds1 went off for another week of work. We had a good wkd together. He waited till 10:30 last night to ask for a haircut! So I cut it on the deck with only the porch light to guide me. It was a big joke this morning that his hair looked like someone cut it in the dark. Ds2 comes home from wrestling camp tonight, but will probably only make a quick stop here for clean clothes and then head right out to the ranch. He's called a few times since he's been gone so at least we've kept in touch. I miss my boys terribly during the week. ![]() C, I think I can understand your cousin wanting to watch what she eats even though she has cancer. My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, had a double-masectomy, chemo, radiation, and was told that it was too far spread and that she should start thinking about making a will. She bought a cemetery plot and then waited. And waited. And waited. And finally thought...why should I live like I am dying? Why not get new furniture and carpeting and a new car?? So she went ahead with a positive attitude and bought herself all those new things and kept on going as if she had years and years to live and you know what? She lived for another TEN years before she finally succumbed to the cancer a few yrs ago. She would have lost out on a lot during those 10 yrs if she had given up when the dr's told her to. Do any of us really know when it's our time to go anyway? Miracles do happen. I will keep your cousin in my thoughts and prayers. ![]() Oh and about the zucchini -- I just sliced it in long thin strips, didn't even peel it. Just layered it raw in a baking pan with the spag. sauce, cooked ground turkey and mozzarella and baked it at 350 for about 30-45 min (depending on how thick you made the layers and strips). I had to eat it with a knife & fork but it gave me the flavoring of pizza so it satisfied my craving. I think next time I will add a layer of ricotta mixture (ricotta, egg, parmesan cheese, parsley) and layer the sliced zucchini with the spag. sauce & mozzarella as if they were lasagna noodles. I bet that would taste really good too and wouldn't add as many carbs as real lasagna. I did read several recipes on this forum for pizza crust, one being made from cauliflower and another made with cheese, but I just like to cook up something quick & easy when I have a craving and this was very simple to make. And I bet it tastes better than T's green beans & cheese with ketchup!! ![]() I bought a beef roast and dh is going to make it into jerkey for me this week. The beef jerkey is soooo delicious and will be a nice low-carb protein snack I can nibble on once in awhile instead of always reaching for a string cheese or nuts. And if we make it homemade, I can regulate the carb count! ![]() I am going to try to push myself to the pool today. Thanks for the nudge, YH. I probably won't be able to do laps like you because there is a group of women who go there everyday at 5 pm, so my workouts won't be alone. I imagine though that treading water or holding onto the side and kicking will give me some form of exercise and I can probably do that even if there is a crowd. When you're as heavy as me, I've found that even the smallest amount of exercise gives results. For me, Curves has really been a good workout but I also think it's all about what one puts into it. I get my heartrate up to 19-22 and I really put a lot of effort into my Curves workout. I see the difference with my friend, she hardly tries at all and she's actually gained since we started there. I think if one exercises half-heartedly, one will see half-hearted results, no matter what their choice of exercise is.E, keep posting your menu's, everyday, even on the wkds. YH & I are pretty good about doing that as you see. I have to say, if you are honest with what you're putting in your mouth and you type it out in black & white, you will begin to see a pattern. I know wkds are my heaviest eating and I can tell when I step on the scale Monday mornings (one of the reasons my weigh-in day is Saturday!!). By Wednesday, my eating is usually back on track and the weight goes down. I also can refer back to my menus when I do see a gain and try to figure out what might have caused it or what worked when I had a good loss. I've read that about apple cider vinegar too but it has to be the natural raw kind that contains the "mother" of vinegar. Google "Braggs apple cider vinegar" and you will see what I am talking about. I want to look for some the next time I go to the store as the kind I have is not natural. If you are retaining water, it's important to drink lots of water to flush yourself out, otherwise your body reacts and holds onto what little water you have in you. I make it a point of only ordering water in restaurants and also having water with every meal at home. I keep a cup filled with water at my side and just refill as the day goes on. Don't give up!! You are doing so well with your eating & exercise. It's only a matter of time before that scale behaves the way you want it to!! ![]() Wow, YH, that was really nice of s3 to offer to take bf to hospital today. I hope bf's procedure goes well and he doesn't feel any pain at all.T, I'm so proud of you for all the exercise you are doing!! I can't believe how chatty I am lately. Geesh. I need to cut my posts in half or you ppl are going to fall asleep before you're finished reading them. WAKE UP!!! Have a great day ladies! DLast edited by Denise78; 06-30-2008 at 07:26 AM.. |
