A little about me and my crew

My name is actually Candace not sweet-n-low . Im a SAHM with 5 kiddos. I homeschool too. Im not a whacko if you chringed . I have 3 girls 2 boys. Emily is 15, Ashley is 12, Trevor is 10, Courtney is 7, Ian is 2 .

Ive been married 13 years this June to an awesome -wouldnt trade him for all the chocolate in the world -guy ! He loves me unconditionally fat or thin. So I will keep him.

I have lost 30lbs so far and want to lose about 40 -45 more. I started at 219 with ww lost 12 lbs by starving and battling the carb monster. Then I didnt "diet" during the holidays and started Atkins on Dec. 22,06 . I have been losing well ever since and havent been hungry or missing anything. I love lowcarbing . The foods are so rich and flavorful.

What is everyone's goals- How bout we set some mini and long term goals. It would be fun to also challenge each other too. What do ya think ??

My real name is Kristie, I am 34 years old. This is my first go round of low carb. I am also married to the most wonderful man in the world. We have been married for 12 years, together 17, we were high school sweathearts. Have been a SAHM since our oldest, Jacob, was born. I have been amazed by the information i have found on these boards. Everyone is so awesome about sharing info and helping each other out...I just somehow feel I haven't found where I fit in.

Aww, thank you so much Candace! Those are such sweet things for you to say! Well, I felt like I was kicking rear last year but let myself get caught in the doldrums right around Thanksgiving just because I couldn't have any of the "good stuff" like everyone else. I mean, good grief that "good stuff" is evil in disguise that only makes me feel and look like crap. The weight I've lost so far I did by alternating Atkins/Kimkins/Stillmans/Fasting. What can I say, I get bored easily, LOL! It could have been overwhelming but I believe it kept my body guessing. I've been bouncing around the 160's-170's for 4 months now and I am getting very impatient with myself. Currently I just started experimenting with the Shangri-La Diet just put up on the Other Plans board. Gonna see if that'll help me kick it back into high gear!

Oh, and a little about me...I too am a SAHM (temporarily). Candace most of our kids are right at the same ages! My eldest, Chris is 15, Steph is 13, Dave-10, Jay-7, Jessica-5. DH and I will be celebrating our 16th Anniversary the end of next month. He is a dream husband, he truly is. I know how lucky I am! He is a currently Active Duty AF, normally reservist, but for the past 5 1/2 years he has been here and there. Still nearby but stationed just far enough away to keep us apart thru the week. Only seeing him on the weekends has been stressful for us but at this point we are used to it.

And last but not least, it is so nice to meet each of you! I can't believe how many of us there are with 5 kids! We used to get stared at everywhere we went because there are "so many of us". Not that I think 5 is a big deal but some people might be surprised at how much attention a Family of 7 draws, LOL! Who knows, maybe they're still staring and I just don't pay attention to it like I used to.

...There, is this chatty enough for ya?

Ok, a little about me....I have been married for 15 1/2 years - to a wonderful man. We have 5 children, Kaley -14, Chase -12, Jessica 10 1/2, Courtney -6 1/2, and Britney 9 1/2 months old. Four of our kids play soccer, three for the same club, so we are very busy.

I started this WOL on 03-19-07 at 213 - although the scale at my gym said 233 - I'm sticking with 213. This morning I am at 205. I am so excited to finally get all this weight off as I know there is a skinny me in there. I am 5-8 and want to get to about 150.

I try to work out 5 days a week, but, sometimes it is almost impossible. I am at least walking on the days that I can't got to the gym.

My first mini-goal is 203 and I am 2 pounds away on day number 2 - go figure!! That would mean a 10 pound loss. I would like to work with everyone to set goals that are obtainable. I also think I need the support to accomplish those goals, as sometimes I forget what I am working towards.

Woo hoo Moms of 5!! We rock

Faith, it seems as though you know a thing or two about this way of eating, i am excited to be able to pick your brain and have someone to bounce ideas off of. I know what you mean about the looks we get when all the kids pile out of the van. For a while we had six kids, our 3 and then 3 foster, that really threw people off, cause no one could figure out who looked like who.

Jkj -- I have so much respect for you for being a foster mom! Growing up, I had an aunt & uncle who were foster parents and every year when we went to visit them I had a new "cousin". I have tossed around the idea myself but idk, since it looks like I'll be having to get back into outside employment I don't think that would be an option.

I think some would think I am out of my mind if they knew I really want one more!

Soccermom, kudos on getting in the workouts...I haven;t figured out how to work those into my schedule yet. I love to do "The Firm", but it requires a lot of space in my living room, and I still have 3 kids to look out for. We are also always on the go....sports, girl scouts, church.

You may pick my brains at your hearts desire! But be forwarned, my brain has been a little, would you say, out of sorts here lately.

So cute about people trying to figure out who looked like who, LOL! It must be really hard to get attached to them then have to let them go.

Faith, I know what you mean, when we told people we were going to do this, we either got a lot of support or a lot of "are you crazy?" responses. I always wanted six kids, my body just can't handle being prego. Besides that, I truly feel blessed that we have been called into this ministry.

Faith, so far we have only had to say goodbye once. A little girl whom we had just a week shy of a year. It was hard, but she got to go home to her mom, and she very safe now. I think it was easier on me because the mom still calls and chit chats, so I know things are well. On the other hand, the little one I have had since birth. He is now 13 months, and I don't know how we are going to say goodbye. He is like our own. As I tell everyone, God put us into this, I know he will get us through those tough times as well.

I understand the looks- we get them too. Thankfully alot of people have complimented us on how well behaved the kids are. That just makes my day, sometimes I feel like they are behaving terribly and then God send a complimenter my way.

I would love to have more children also but I cant do the pregancy anymore either. My last 2 were 10lbs and just did a number on my body. Plus I had my first child when I was 15 so Ive been in the baby making business half my life..... Im done. I had a c-section with this last guy and he was transverse....they cut my uterus all up to get him out.......like and upside dont T.... I had my tubes tied while they were in there. But Im not against having more someday..... my dh was adopted, and he has a great story.

Our 4th child is our neice.....she is my brothers daughter. I have had her since she was 5months and now she is 7. She's ours as far as we are concerned, I havent spoke to my brother in 6+ years, long story, a BIG O L is on his forhead.

So my mini goal would be 185 .... I keep seeing 188-189 ... Im ready to see it move. so 4 lbs in the next couple weeks would be awesome.

So when is everyones weigh in day. I try to weigh Saturday Mornings .

Candace -- on your pregnancy and c-section woes! Can't say I blame you for being done. Half your life is long enough, eh?

Most of my PG's were high risk and difficult as it was. Plus, being as I am 36 now I would be even higher risk there. We are happy with our 5. I think sometimes the nostalgia and thought of having another is what gets me. For 10 years straight I was having babies and it just feels strange now not having a tiny one to take care of anymore.

I officially weigh in on Sundays...I try to stay off the scales during the week, but am never successful. My first mini goal is 175. I am actually lighter now than I have been in about 10 years....Sometimes I don't recognize myself in the mirror. sounds stupid, I know. The one problem I seem to be having lately is how to feed my family. I always do a lean protein, and a veggie for them, and a salad for me. I usually also do a carb of some sort for everyone else, but because I was a gestational diabetic, I am very aware of what my kids eat. (I was an insulin dependent gestational diabetic, three shots a day) In my opinion, they have been exposed to diabetes in utero, so I feel as though it is my responsibility to really teach them now what is a good carb and what is not. On the flip side of that, Katie, my 7 year old daughter is always asking if there is sugar in something...I feel like I am walking a fine line with her. I don;t want her to struggle with eating disorders, but I do want to educate her. Ugh!! For me, this has to be a way of life. My fasting sugars are always good...its the glucose tolerance tests and the A1C's I fail miserably. I have no choice but to take care of my body...for my kids sake!

I am running out of ideas for their carb for dinner. I guess it's because i'm not eating them anymore, therefore I don't feel very creative. I have looked at a lot of the recipies on this site, but we don't do casseroles, they don't like their foods "mixed up". And they are still your pretty picky eaters. I know that is pretty typical, I just want to make sure they eat well balanced. Tonight they wanted breakfast for dinner, Sooo they are having homemade sausage gravy over homemade from scratch biscuits, scrambled eggs. I am having that same sausage mixed up with some cream cheese and stuffed into a portobella and some scrambled eggs.
