Sue: I hope you have a safe trip.
Yah, the stock market is something else. I watch my funds go up and down. Kinda scary. DD1 and new hubby are coming home for the weekend again. That usually keeps me from getting much done. I will try though. I keep finding projects I want to do. I have to keep focused and just plan to do one. Then if I get it done, I will feel good. My walking partners are absent this weekend. Sure hope I force myself into the gym as a substitute. Pam: Still NO rain for us. Dry as ever. Have a great weekend ladies.

Hi Girls,
I am still hanging in there with induction, but I have started over, and over, and over. Anyway Matt is feeling much better and has returned to work. He is lamenting his decision to put off college for a semester as all of his friends are leaving this next week. My mother-in-law has invited DH, myself, DS2 and his girlfriend, and Matt's girlfriend out to dinner tomorrow for Matt's birthday. He called her this afternoon to see if he could bring 8 more of his "closest friends", and being Grandma, she obliged. She never tells these kids "no." Matt has taken up golfing this week with my ex-husband, and they are both so excited that they have found a common interest now that he is 19. My ex called me to say that he was buying Matt everything he will need to golf, and he was almost giddy. I am so relieved! Michael has been hit in the head a couple of times during football practice and it really scared him. He came home Wednesday night and said that he doesn't think high school football is worth the risk of another brain injury, and he doesn't want to play. I am so thankful. He only wants to play baseball and run track. The coaches are pressuring him of course by DH is going to have a talk with them and tell them to lay off. Work has been crazy this week and I am exhausted. Next week is looking as if it is going to be even busier. It would be so much easier to get my work done if not for all of the pointless meetings and e-mails. Leslie, I know you think that you aren't losing quickly enough, but I would kill to be 190. Does this mean you are now in a size 16? If I could get back into a 16 I would have so many more choices because my closet it full of them. Have a great weekend everyone, Carolyn |

Morning ladies,
It has been a pretty busy week.......... am ready for the weekend.... even though it is going to be pretty busy also..... My sister is continuing to get better every day.... which is great news.... She still has quite a way to go, but we are taking it one day at a time.... Work is continuing to get busier.... School starts in one week.... will be in training 3 days next week.... Began a new program at CURVES yesterday.... the machines now have monitors on them that will tell me if I am working to peak or not.... will be interesting.... I am trying to recommit to getting this weight off and get back on the losing track..... Sue: Enjoy your weekend..... Yes we are getting the rain AGAIN........ hasn't been too bad this time here.... but north and west of us they got 4 inches yesterday.... Right now we are really keeping an eye on Hurrican Dean to see where he decides to land.....Stock market, yikes..... Just watching the action.....Not much else to do.... Leslie: enjoy the visit with the kiddos this weekend..... Carolyn: We are celebrating my FIL bday tomorrow..... his bday is actually Monday... Yesterday was my sister's bday (different sis, I have 3)..... I know you are glad about DS decision to lay off the football.... Our son made that same decision his senior yr.... Glad that Matt and his dad are finding a connection.... I hear ya on the pointless meetings..... When we have department meeting we have a couple of people who always seem to get us off track and we end up on so many different sidebars that we don't get done what needs to get done.... Drives me nuts.... A couple of us have taken on the effort of keeping us on track...... DH is leaving Monday on business...... He is actually travelling for the next 3 weeks.... and will only be home on weekends.... My DD and I are planning on breaking out the scrapbook stuff and doing that in the evenings..... Need to go get more coffee and put a load of clothes in the dryer and start another..... Have a good day and a wonderful weekend...........

Morning All
I have had a busy week, been to my Mom's everyday off. We have been cleaning and painting. Finally able to convince her that if she hasn't used something in 5 years to throw it out. Got rid of a lot, but still a ways to go. Going to be a busy week, Dixmont, the town where I grew up and the rest of my family still lives is celebrating their Bicentennial. Family is coming from out of state to attend. Also DD1 and DSIL are coming home from NJ Saturday for a vacation, DSIL will stay a few days, the DD! will go back the following Fri.on the bus. Sue" Happy Birthday Pam: Glad your sister is doing better. Are you near the coast? Hopefully Hurricane Dean won't be a threat to you Carolyn: Glad that Matt is feeling better. I was also relieved that my son Matt didn't play football in high school. Leslie: the weather has actually been cool here the last couple of days and we have had some showers with much needed rain. Everyone have a good day and I am off to sew, something that I have wanted to do for that last week but have been unable to squeeze it in. Today is my day Kayan |

Well, this has been a good weekend. We celebrated Matt's birthday last night with all of his friends and family. We had such fun listening to them talk and laugh. Matt's best friend, Josh, is such a funny kid, and we were literally rolling on the floor. He left for college in Kansas today, and I have to admit that I am really missing him already. He has pretty much grown up in our home because he doesn't have a mother here, his Dad is single, and physically challenged. He is a fantastic kid, though and I am so proud of him. I think he was a little nervous about leaving. Last night he looked at me and said, "Why would I ever leave this?" His eyes were tearing up, and that made me cry. These boys have showed more emotion this year than I have seen in all their years growing up.
Kayan, I love to sew! Why I haven't done it in so long is beyond me though. What are you making? The Bicentenial sounds like fun, I love to go home to the town where I grew up. I haven't much reason to go home anymore though because all of my family members have all passed away now, both parents and two sisters. I still have a half sister and two half brothers, but I'm not as close to them as I was to the others, they are older and we didn't grow up together. I still love my hometown though (Lufkin, Texas.) When you say you've had "cool weather" how cool has it been. Here in the heart of Texas anything under 100 is considered cool. Pam scrap booking sounds like fun. I haven't done much of that before, just a few pages with my niece. I don't think that I would like it though if DH were gone on business for three weeks at a time. Although I have a friend who's husband works abroad and they only see each other on weekends and it seems to work for them, so who knows. I am a little worried about the hurricane myself. I cannot believe what happened in Oklahoma. Well, I had better get to bed now it's late and no matter how late I stay up I cannot delay Monday morning. Sue, Happy Birthday! ![]() Carolyn |

Why Carolyn! You early bird! :-)
What a lot of driving this weekend! We left before noon on Saturday and made it to VTech around the 5 o'clock timeframe. DS2's roommates helped unload the cars and we went to dinner at a place my DH remembered fondly. Then back to the townhouse to put together the IKEA furniture--bed and dresser which took until 10 pm. WE saw our son for breakfast the next morning. He reported many visitors through evening hours, so he looked a bit ragged. THe boys had plans to go together to some stores to stock up on living essentials, so we thought that was a good time to bid him farewell to start his new college life. So, we took off and I spent my birthday on the road. We stopped at the VA Artisans center and my DH sneakily bought me two gifts--some artists glass earrings in a bright blue and purple (good for Red Hat coordinating!) and a candle holder with a perforated cover design with dogwood motifs also designed by an area artist. Very nice. We got home between 5 and 6 pm. My nephew is staying here this week so DS3 has someone to bud around with. Main problem though is that then the two of them stay up til 3 am or so and are no good until afternoon. Another Monday, another housework day. It needs it as usual... Good news is we are going to have a rainy week. It will be in the 70's for a few days with good rain potential. WE really haven't awakened to many dark mornings from overcast skies so I feel like I'm walking around the halls in the twilight! I like sewing too although I'm no expert! Mostly I have concentrated on costumery in the past since I love neat materials. Soon it will be fall and time to turn toward those type of activities (for me). I hope everyone has a great start to this week! Sue (still recovering from all that travel) Avatar: a profusion of zinnias at Meadowbrook. Last edited by Suji : 08-20-2007 at 04:27 AM. |

Hi everyone:
Sue: I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Lots of driving. That always makes me tired. I'm glad your son got settled in. We are doing the Ikea thing for DD1. Be are buying them a dresser for their wedding gift. I believe we are driving it down to them over Labor Day weekend. Don't know if we will put it together here then drive it down or keep it boxed and put it together down there. We are also buying a bookshelf and a tv stand for DD2 that we will have to put together. DD2 doesn't leave for school unti Sept 16 and then she's only going a week early to find a job.Carolyn: Thanks for the encouraging words. Yah, I'm about a 16 on top, but my pants are much smaller, size 12. But remember, I'm really tall. 5'8". I'm working my shoulders and arms at the gym attempting to reduce my upper body. I should be happy with the amount I've lost. I got the picture back from my 30 year HS reunion and I don't look bad, in fact pretty good. I showed my son and he said Mom, you look skinnier than most the people there. What a sweetie. I know about the football thing. DS has had a couple of coaches call asking why he wasn't at camp last week and telling him if he signed up now they would play him every game. He keeps telling them he's involved with a different activity (band). They are so disappointed. He's a brick. Anyway, he has band activities solid for the next two weeks leading up to school and band camp next week, so kind of like band daily doubles next week. Kayan: It's good to hear from you. I really need to help my mom clean out too. She just can't seem to part with stuff. I love to sew. I need to get busy again. My kids love their PJ pants, so I think I'm going to make some for them for xmas if I just get started. I'm still weighing the same. Can't get out of this rut. I keep mixing things up in hopes something will drop, not to mention the long workouts at the gym. Maybe something will give. I hope soon. |

Leslie you have shrunk to a size 12 pant? That is great work!
Take full credit for it because you are the amazing shrinking woman, and have earned it, no matter how tall you are. You go girl! How does it feel to be that thin again? Do you you feel so much lighter on your feet and have more energy?Last edited by sleepysue07 : 08-20-2007 at 02:38 PM. Reason: didn't like what I said |

Awww Carolyn. You are so sweet. What would I do without you gals. Anyway, no change, so I adjusted my stats back UP! Maybe it will make me feel better when the scale goes down from there. I keep bouncing between 190 and 193. My son cracked me up. He had to go to the high school yesterday both to finish the driving part for driver's ed and work in the band room. He walked outside the entire campus to avoid the football coaches. Some football kids stopped by the bandroom after the morning portion of their daily double and reamed him for not coming back, then plead with him to come back. I think they almost got to him because he admitted he really missed football. Its been busy at work. I'm covering for my vacationing counterpart. I haven't been able to do any of my own work, so I best get going. I will keep plugging away! I've got to break this stall eventually. |

This is my second attempt at this post, in the middle of the first one it just blinked off and disappeared. What is up with our thread? I can't see that anyone else has posted today, but I can't believe that. I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone. I notice that it isn't even in bold print on the list, what gives?
I had my hair cut this afternoon, and I cannot imagine what I might do to make it look presentable now. I would have been better off doing it myself. The heat is really getting to me today. 96 is mild for the end of August in Texas , but I am SO ready for winter! I had a luncheon today, and I slipped up and had the rice. I am disgusted with myself, but all I can do now is make better choices from here on out. My scale hasn't moved in weeks! Oh well, at least it's not going up anymore. Good evening girls, Carolyn Last edited by sleepysue07 : 08-22-2007 at 02:47 PM. |

It is the same thing that she had a couple of weeks ago.... So I have been up there most of the week.... came home last night and will be going back up there tomorrow..... Looks like all of you have been pretty busy as well..... School around here starts on Monday, so work is beginning to pick up...... Will try to do personals later...... |

Hi Pam and Carolyn,
I checked in yesterday to read, but never got around to posting. Sorry! (It was a boring day other than watching everyone work on the hill.) I'll be going to the farm today to help harvest and do the usual dead heading. I haven't been up in over a week so there will be plenty to do. WE are still in our cool spell, but the temps will be rising by 10 degrees per day by Friday. Ick--that means in the 90's by the weekend plus all the humidity. We've been getting rain of some sort almost everyday and the temps have been in the 60's. Now this is the New York state summer weather that I remember even if I'm in Maryland! School is Monday for both remaining sons and DS2 has settled in nicely (he phoned). Hopefully, after a month goes by he will be fully focussed there(you know--one eye home and the other on campus at first). Carolyn--just go for the tousled look! It hides a multitude of bad cuts! I need to get mine done, but right now I have a color dilemma as in 1/3 gray roots and two toned hair that is damaged from all the sun/chemical combo. I decided that I would change to an old=fashioned bristle brush like I used to use back in the day and try to bring some oils back into the hair shaft. Those wide plastic bristles are great for getting the tangles out, but don't do squat otherwise! Anyway--I need to recolor, but am concerned about my hair's current condition. Ack! How do all these stars that constantly color their hair keep it looking healthy?! Pam, I am sorry to hear about your sister's readmittance. What a ride... :-( Talk to you all later--time to walk the dog and feed the poultry critters! Sue Last edited by Suji : 08-23-2007 at 05:13 AM. |

Morning All
Pam: Sorry to hear about your Sister, Hope she is doing better Carolyn: Can you say BRRRRRR. The last two mornings that I went to work, at 6Am the bank clock said 40 degrees one morning and 44 the next. even the days have been unusally cool 60-70's. Although this Sat. for the parade it is suppose to be in the 80's and humid with thundershowers. I am making 2 different quilts now, a hidden star quilt ( queen)for dd2 and a yellow brick road quilt (Twin) for a couch. Leslie: Great job on getting to a size 12 Sue: Beautiful Flowers. I also need to dead head mine out along my walk way today. I have a house full of guests coming this weekend. I need to go shopping for food and another airbed and get some cleaning done. It will be a busy weekend. My cousin and her husband will be arriving tomorrow, DD1 & hubby on Sat. evening, DD2 & BF on Sat. am, DS & Fiancee' already are staying here. The celebration is Sat. then we have a family reunion breakfast at another cousin's house about 45 mins from here, before the rest of the relatives leave back for Mass. & NH. Busy weekend but hopefully it will turn out nice Now off to town Kayan |

Hi Ladies:
Pam: I'm so sorry about your sister. I hope things get better for her soon. What a ride she's had. ![]() Sue: I'm doing my hair this weekend. I've got way too much gray coming through. Oh, I so need to get it cut. It's gotten really long, but I can't decide how to get it cut. It's long enough now I can actually choose a style. HMMM. Kayan: Quilting always looks so complicated. My friend quilts, My SIL and my MIL quilt. My SIL got me a bunch of stuff to go with my machine so I could quilt. It's all I can do to piece together PJ bottoms. Carolyn: I had rice in a taco salad I ordered. I didn't know they put rice in it. No worries. Although I didn't lose, I didn't gain either. I tried to sort of pick through the salad to avoid the rice. I seem to slip up a lot more these days which I know is why I've stalled so badly. I'm really starting to change it up though and have eliminated some items that I'm sure are slowing me down. I've also ramped up the exercise again. I hope I can keep it up. I can't seem to last but a week with the higher volumes of exercise. Your haircut story scares me because I really need to do something with mine but I'm afraid it won't come out the way I want. ![]() |

I bought the color to do my hair about a week ago, and just haven't yet done it.
I am saving that little chore for the weekend. The last time I did it I really liked the way it turned out - hoping for the same result. I will say that although I am not crazy about the way this cut looks, I am cooler now. But, I weighed this afternoon and I'm down by four pounds. (Maybe it was my hair!) ![]() Pam you and your family are in my prayers. Kayan, I am very envious of your nice weather. As I look out the window into my back yard I can actually see the heat waves over my sidewalk. I am staying inside where it's air conditioned, but although I'm fairly comfortable, the pets are laying around panting. Leslie, don't be afraid to cut your hair, I bet yours will be fabulous! You are a size 12! If I were at a 12 I think that I would cut my hair very short. I remember being thin and having really short hair. I felt so free, and sassy. Good evening everyone, Carolyn |

Hi Carolyn: I'm sorry for the heat you guys are experiencing. We will get to low 80's today, perhaps some sprinkles this weekend with highs of low 70's. We have had such a mild summer. No real heat to speak of except a couple of days. We did hit 100 I think twice, but that's it. Suffice it to say, I'm good with that. It's hair color time for me tonight. I'm going to skip the gym and do my hair instead. My muscles are tired. Although I have arranged to meet my walking partner at 6:45 tomorrow morning for a 6 mile walk. I jumped on the scale this morning and its right at 193 again. Good Grief! When I look at the calories burned to calories consumed ratio, there is no way I shouldn't be losing. Just can't figure it out. My husband says to take a break. That I'm too obsessed. I just don't want to take a break and be sabotaged into a full lapse. So instead of a break, I think I will go shopping on my lunch hour. Maybe I can buy myself something to make me feel better. My ultimate feel good medicine.
. Shopping. I'm still not used to buying smaller sizes.Congratulations on your 4 lb loss!!!!!! That's fabulous. Hi Pam, Kayan and Sue. |

Indeed--yay Carolyn!
Leslie, I think that your husband's idea of taking a managed break may be on the money. The body seems to figure out most weight loss systems eventually and then we stall. I think changing to different diet plans may be required to keep up a regular loss pattern. Either that, or just suffer on through the plateaus for however long til they eventually break--and I don't think anyone is clear on the whens and whys of that! But, word is that they do eventually end! Girls, I think I could live off summer tomatoes. My gosh--I have some monsters in the garden that are so good just cut into a bowl with salt and pepper! We picked a LOT yesterday and there's plenty more ripening while the vines keep on growing! I am so glad our housesitting friend likes to can them! Pic is a small portion of ripe items harvested for lunch one morning in August. I am starting to get club reminders for meeting dates, dues, etc. That season is about to start up again by the end of this month. I really enjoyed getting out last year and getting to know the area. I think the odd summer weather made me sideline my fitness hiking goal so I should rededicate myself to that. I think back to school day (this Monday) is a good time for me to set my sights once again in this direction though not til true fall equinox do I get really engaged. I just love autumn! Leslie, I wish I could get more into clothes shopping, but I still have a long way to go--the height issue alone has always been a fit bugaboo for me no matter what weight I've been! Forget shoes--I'm the model for Bigfoot! Heheh Carolyn-I always feel sorry for my collie in the hot weather. I know she's uncomfortable since she parks right in front of any blowing fan that is floor level! Kayan-thanks for the compliment. I was looking at my border yesterday thinking about all the changes I would have to make next year taking some things out and moving others to new locations. The dead heading has sure made a difference in how things look and the longevity of bloom. All the rain we've had made the flowers by the front porch go nuts and I had to whack all of them back to make room to get up the stairs! Pam--I hope this weekend sees your sister improve and that you get some R&R. Sue Last edited by Suji : 08-24-2007 at 11:11 AM. |

TGIF Ladies! I have had a really busy, but thankfully uneventful day. I have been eating on plan, but failed to excercise. I will be walking tomorrow. I am praying that it will rain here this weekend! The weather man says there is a chance of rain tomorrow. I am beginning to see cracks in the ground big enough to lose a small dog in.
I plan to color my hair tomorrow night, and treat myself to a manicure/pedicure tomorrow. Leslie, did you go shopping and buy yourself something wonderful today? If I ever get into regular sizes again, I'm gonna by lingerie. (My husband would be so shocked! No more long nightgowns and big-old cotton granny panties. ) I wouldn't fret over the stall too much, I'm sure it's just temporary. Walking at 6:45 a.m.? Leslie you are such a go getter! Your size 12 has just really inspired me to get serious about this. I hope to be in a size 12 by March. If I make it, I will post pictures then.Sue, I envy your tomatoes. I love them fresh from the garden. My mom used to can them too and I loved having them in the jars on my pantry shelves because they are so pretty. I too feel for your colllie in the heat. Do you still have her? My poor dog spends as much time in front of the fan as possible these days. Unfortunately, as a lab, he has two coats of hair to keep him warm. I look forward to all the details from your social events this year Sue. I want to be you when I grow up . Until then, I'll just live vicariously through you. Don't worry about those big feet, I have them too, and they don't bother me a bit. At least you are tall. My sister is tall too and it's great, she always looks fabulous no matter what she wears. I, on the other hand, am as big around as I am tall. I've seen you picture in your avi, and I think you're lovely. I want you to post one of yourself in your red-hat attire. That looks like such fun. Kayan, I can't remember what part of the country you live in. Is the cool weather there to stay already? I love autmn, it is undoubtedly my favorite time of the year, and the time I most miss my mother. My mom loved fall as well, we always did a lot of sewing, and baking, and Christmas shopping in the fall. As a teen I loved jogging in our neighborhood on fall evenings. Many of the neighbors would be burning their fireplaces, and others burning leaves. I just loved the smell of fall. And then there is football, and homecoming, Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday etc.... Pam, you are still in my prayers. Sorry to praddle on so much! Good night girls, Carolyn |

Hi Ladies: I didn't color my hair last night so I did it this morning. After I got back from the infamous 6 mile walk.
Sue, your produce looks so good. There's nothing like garden tomatoes. I'm hoping my walking partner will bring some of hers for me tomorrow morning. She said she would. As for sizing, I have your run of the mill size 8 feet. The bad part about that is so does everybody else so sometimes I can't find the shoes I want because they never have my size. I do have trouble buying pants. If they are 29-1/2 or less inseam, they are too short. So that limits the pants that I buy a lot. Carlyn: I did go shopping. I bought two really nice blazers at Ross. I'm going to hit the Ross closer to home to see if they have any others. The price was certainly right and I really need them for fall and winter since all my jackets from last year are too big. I guess I should give in to buying some sweaters too. I've just been so big, I didn't like the way I looked in them, but now maybe it will be different. Just wish the weight would drop. Bleh. Hi Kayan and Pam. |

Leslie--
Ha--try finding a 34" inseam and shoes for size 10 (or 11!) feet! Gasp! Spent the day here with my sister running errands and looking for ideas at furniture stores. OK--what gives with these humongous pieces of furniture?! The beds look so huge and heavy and most furniture lines seem sequoia sized! All I'm looking for is some sturdy yet normal sized items to fit in an average room--or what would have been average before everything got "super sized"! Yes, we have our collie, Carolyn. She's only 3 so we expect she'll be with us for quite a while yet. As for hair issues-we went to Sally's today and checked out some items that are supposed to remove the old color, things to correct color, products to enhance grey coverage and some supreme moisturizing conditioner without alcohol. So, I'm going to try a few things as an experiment. I do need a superb cut to get rid of the split ends though! Thanks for the compliment, C. I have good days and bad days as far as pictures go and frankly I can be either homely or attractive depending on the lighting or camera angle. All I care about is that my DH apparently loves me no matter what! :-) MY DH has decided that he will start paying attention to his food intake along with me, so that's a good start. Monday is definitely drop the starch and sugar day! Hurrah! Prolly farm tomorrow! Later gaters, Sue Last edited by Suji : 08-25-2007 at 07:28 PM. |
