Rocky's Friends September Slimdown!!

Hi everybody! Leaves are turning, kids are gong back to school, airconditioners are turning off- its a time of change, so lets motivate ourselves to change too! I just have to post a link to a thread on the exercise board, because to me it seemed very encouraging and I do believe exercise makes a real difference. Go here:

1000 minutes of exercise in September, plus a new challenge for veteran exercisers!!

and see if there isn't some little thing you can do this month to make a difference! For me it may be walking the long way to pick the kids up from school. My back is still bothering me, but I doubt walking would make it any worse.

LadyT- Glad you are really hitting it off with Mr FunnyBones- don't forget that laughing burns extra calories! I used to go out with someone like that- unfortunately he turned out to be making several other girls laugh also...

Air Conditioners are being turned off???? Where??????
AND you forgot.... Gas Prices Are On The Rise!!! sheesh!!!!

So far "Mr. Funny-bones" doesn't seem to be seeing anyone other than me, except his 15 year old son.... could that "son" be another woman??? LOL probably not.

Scobee, I do like the idea of a slim down challenge of some sort. My daughter is trying to get me to use all that exercise equipment I have in my back room, I'm just so full of excuses

I am trying real hard to get back to induction... I'm doing better with food choices right now, getting back into cooking a little more, no more catch as catch can. Maybe I can take off what I put on, plus a little more. I'd better do something soon, I'm starting to bust out of my clothes and I refuse to buy bigger clothes. So if you hear of a fat nekked lady sighting in San Marcos, you'll know who it is

OK, gonna go check out Scob's link.

Good Evening everyone!!!

Well, worked at our garage sale the last two days... Let's just say that if I hadn't promised my mom to do another one with her in 3 weeks, I'd NEVER do that again! The whole thing only brought in $300 which was hardly worth sitting in the heat for 2 days....

I went on a "first date" to lunch with a guy.... Not sure it's going to work out, but, still is pretty nice to get some attention now! Been about 7 years since I've had that!!! (And no Z, I don't mean ATTENTION the way you're thinking! ) He's a really nice guy, but, scared of dogs.... But, oddly enough, he knows I have 7, yet it doesn't really seem to have slowed him down any?

After getting home I worked in the yard and weeded and removed some shrubbery that I didn't like and tomorrow will work again in the yard planting some flowers and the like....

Scobee -- It must be much cooler in Michigan than here in Indiana, my A/C has been going strong!!! Do you have more free time now that the kids are back in school or has it just moved to more of an evening rush now??

Lady T -- How's your daughter and grandaughter doing with all the life changes??? Are they starting to settle down some?? Hope so!

Kathy-- Why can't you stay online??? Internet nazi you say?? Hmmmm....

Well, better get some things done around the house.... I have all next week lined out to paint several rooms inside the house and maybe even put in new flooring in several rooms!! I can't wait to see things fixed up around here!!!

Brandi, I almost hate to admit it.... my g'daughter didn't come with us. We felt it better to let her stay with her dad. She has lived in the same house since she was born, gone to the same school, has the same friends... it was bad enough when her parents split, we couldn't bring ourselves to disrupt her that much so close to school starting. She is looking forward to us flying her here for Christmas and summer. Her mom and her talk every night. She is 10 years old, maybe we'll work on her moving her after this school year.

I'm trying real hard to stick... not doing induction but am sticking to strictly lo-carb... not letting my daughter tempt me... much LOL.... yesterday she wanted a foot long coney and a cheeseburger... I waited till we got home and ate some left over steak with a salad

Yesterday her and I went thrift store shopping... there was so much I wanted to buy, but I stuck with a couple of knick-knacks and an entertainment center LOL....

OK... going to head out for now...

hi guys- just a quiet day here, going to read the paper and watch the US Open tennis on TV, maybe do some yard work.

Brandi- my two don't start school till tuesday, so Yes I'm looking forward to it (more than they are) and it will be nice to get back into more of a routine then. We do kind of have that evening rush- they want to tell me about their days, and they'll have more homework and activities this year.

LadyT- glad things are going OK with your daughter, and that you are staying strong with the LCing- I love steak ceasar salad!

It's a beautiful day here- perfect for the kiddies last day off school. We plan to have a picnic, label all their school supplies, reorganize their desks and lay out everything for tomorrow. I found out we are getting some refugees today, so we may take some food, quilts, old clothes, and toys over to the church organizing everything. They are going to house the people in some schools that were closed due to a dropoff in enrollment. i also would like to make a spreadsheet to keep better track of my workouts and eating this month, see if that helps. I weighed in this AM and had gained one percent body fat and one pound, but I think TOM is almost here, so I'm not freaing out about it. I'm also kind of swollen, sore and stiff (still- that's why I took a rest day yesterday) so I did a low impact w/o today, and then a stretch w/o- man did that feel good! OK, enough of this talking to myself...

Hello ladies- kind of a crazy morning- rushed through a strength w/o before the first day of school- right when we were leaving, dh noticed ds had gum all over the bottom of his new school shoes- he has not been supposed to be wearing them, but they were in the entry instead of his room, and obviously had been worn. So by the time we got that cleaned off, we weren't early like I wanted to be, and it was hard to find a seat in the gym. They start the year off with a pep rally and introduce all the new teachers. I couldn't believe that they didn't stand up and turn around when they were introduced- how do they think people in the back can see??! dd has only seven girls in her class- i already knew none of her close friends were with her, but it is mostly boys! Oh well, she at least is familiar with her teacher already, since she was ds' teacher and is related to people who go to our church. So kind of a rough start, but it is nice and quiet around here- i can even hear the birds chirping outside! So, why am I still talking to myselF? Hello?

My kids had first day back today too, for the two oldest boys it will be the last year of high school, for Erika it will be grade 10. Our first day back is a little different since I was in the passenger seat on the way to school with Roger, child #3, driving. I will only have three years left of being a "school mom" since I've had kids start in school some 15 years ago. Sounds like a long time - but really the time has flown.

Next year I will have three in University at once. Where will I find the money. I think they will have to live on campus - in tents.

Gotta go.

Morning, girls- very quiet around here- today is the first full day of school. gotta meeting at 9:30, then a party tonight- rumor has it the govornor will be there! Might have to go shopping...

GGal- a little oops is not such a big deal- just put it behind you and move on- hope you had a fun weekend!

Cath- do you have twins? Somehow I never realized that- how fun. The last year of high school is so exciting, so full of promise,- the kids driving part would be scary though- i'm so not ready for that!

No, my children are spaced 17 months apart. The two middle (Ben & Roger) are graduating the same year because in Ontario we "lost" grade 13 due to cutbacks about 5 years ago, but the kids are allowed to stay as long as they like to take extra credits. Ben is staying an extra year to get more business and history credits and - of course - play football. I told him it would be the last time in his life that he could obtain an education for free - take it. About 30-40% of the kids opt to stay for extra courses. Roger will not be back next year as he already has extra credits from co-op and summer school ( voluntary). If it was free - I'd go back to school - but it is very expensive for any kind of post secondary education.

I'm swamped - I'll try and check in later.

Hi girls! I am in a very good mood, as I got to go play golf this morning- didn't play that well, but flashes of greatness and it was lots of fun! We did not get the rain we were supposed to get, so i was just outside watering everything- again- this must be the driest fall on record. Speaking of which, i need a glass of water for myself!

Cath- very interesting about the thirteenth grade- we have no such animal. I guess everyone is so excited to graduate after twelfth grade that it would probably never catch on here- even if the funding could be arranged. Yes, secondary school is SO expensive- our kids could get reduced tuition if they went here in town, as dh is faculty, but I doubt they will want to. We have already started savings plans for that, but who knows whether it will even make a dent in it by then.

We've been saving from the start - It really won't help much - In fact in a way it hurt, because it makes the kids less eligible for government help at really low interest rates.
Later.

That's so dumb- they should reward people for saving! matching funds or something- wait a minute- why would the government want to do something sensible?

Hi everyone. Im back on line. Im trying to talk that man into getting us onto broadband so we dont have to do slow stupid dial up. Dont hold your breathe.
I just dont understand your education system. Here we start at infant school and then primary school then off to highschool ( which is called secondary education ) then university which is called tertiary education. Oh and off course then there are Tafe courses where you can get degrees and diplomas as well. All I know is that the govt seems to shaft you no mater what you do. They want more skiled workers but if you try and educate your kids it just costs you more and then you end up like Tam with 2 degrees and working parttime as a waitress with a huge education ( HECS ) debt to pay off. Sometimes I think the Amish have it right.
Now as for putting the weekend oops behind me. Dont worry I'm sure that where its all gone . Mostly behind me oh maybe a little bit around my tummy and a bit on the thunder thighs. I think that there maybe some alcohol in my future this weekend. So I am planning on being good and getting all organised to get back on track properly on Monday. The weather is so nice today that we are going to have a BBQ for tea and salad so that wont be too bad.
Anyway Hope you all have a great weekend.
Kathy

I'm sure this weekend will be better Kath. I know what you mean about the untapped education thing. I spent years studying chemistry, and now I am the executive assistant/beancounter/everything for a land developement/building company. ....go figure.

.........oh and btw........... I'm gaining weight faster than I ever have before. great.

...is nothing ever easy?

Morning, girls! I did part of a strength w/o today, but ff'd through a lot of it as I had very little energy for some reason. It is so nice to be able to log on this morning- we have been having a lot of connectivity problems- half the time I want to talk to you girls I can't get online- i hate that! We are getting new networking software and hopefully that will help. Today I have to take dd to a birthday party, and dh is taking ds to the football game with him, so I get a little me time- didn't get any yesterday as dh had the day off and had a million and one requests. I might go hang out in the book store cafe for a while- it is close to the party.

Zukpr- one word- nope! Hang in there-

its a special skill we both share. How can a tinsy tiny little bit of chocolate turn into 2 kilos of ugly fat? Im blaming it on the pill. Did I tell you I got the Dr to put me on it so that when I go on holidays I can go check out the Great Barrier Reef and NOT be shark bait. Im actually ready for the change and if I can time it so I get the hot flushes in winter I would really reaaly appreciate that.

Well is someone goign to ask me why Im eating chocolate. Its all been becasue of my stress free weekend Huh!!!!
Friday night I get everything ready for the netball finals and go to sleep. And then at 1am Mel arrives. Her house mate came home trashed and started having a go at her and it ended up with her sister and mother coming over and bursting in and screaming and threatening Mel. Luckily Mels friends were with her the whole time and they decided that Me; shouldnt stay there the night so they dropped her here. So then I stayed awake all the rest off the night worrying. You know all the small town stuff and having to see these people the next day and what I should do. My 1st reaction was the "if you ever come near my family again im going to kill you/ have you thrown into jail " one. But I didnt I was good but Im not going to let them get away with it. Im telling everyone in town about it . Its just a worry as horrible as this sounds they are aboriginal and they have a tendency of having nasty ways of dealing with "family" problems. And their family is related to about 1/2 the town. we are just thankful that the other sister was away on a cruise becasue she gets very volatile.

So were Mel and I ready to get up and go coach netball finals. No No No and did the girls win No. They were down by 5, then even, then up by 7, then lost by 8. So a sad finish to the season. I worry a bit that if we'd been more on the ball it would have helped but in the end they had to play the game. But I d still go back and change one player for the last quarter if I could.
So the menu this weekend has included steaksandwiches witht the lot, lollies, chocolate, chocolate biscuits, chocolate, more chocolate, potato chips, cake, pizza and mre pizza, toast, garlic bread lasagne and more chocolate. And none of my clothes fit for going away at the end of Oct. Maybe I'll need to have a shark nibble around the edges a little bit.

So saying Im sulking off to bed. I cant sew anymore because the cats are helping" and going to bed keeps me away from the fridge. for a little while
So lets hope tomorrow is a better day and I can be good and stcick to my diet. Hmm maybe i should wait until after the touch final tomorrow night. I know - I promise to be good til tea time at least.

Now how early can I have tea??????

Everybody is gone for the day and it's just me here all alone- YEAH!!!! Hoping to make the most of it and get a lot done.

Kathy, Kathy- what an exciting life you lead- sorry about all the extra stress. Do you think Mel will be able to go back home or will she need to find a new roomie? Hope your netball goes OK- be sure to stay stocked up on legal substitutes for times like these.

Where is everybody else?

Wow where has everyone else been. Ive been rushing about going crazy and looks like Im not the only one. I thought by Sunday night that everything had settled down but now just as Im falling asleep theres a call and mels in tears because she just heard a friend she used to go to church camp with everyyear when they were young had just died of an OD. So long story short we sent her off to Adelaide for the funeral and a bit of time out. Hopefully she can comehome a bit less stressed. I was seriously worrying about her getting an ulcer. But shes staying with Mum and I think the power of granma hugs and seeing her sister will do heaps. All she has to worry about is getting back in time for the touch grand finals on Monday night.

Saw a little joke. Lady saying Im on a 30day diet ..... and so far Ive lost 15 days.....Sounds like me. this month.
See you all tomorrow

Well, Kath, I did pretty well the last two days but I've already blown it today. Overslept, and just didn't get a good start. Sorry about poor Mel- seems like everything's happening all at once for her. I think you're right- a little time away would be good. Can I come too? I was all excited to have the kids back in school, and now I'm bored an lonely. Of course there's work I could be doing, but I don't FEEL productive today...going to get my hair trimmed later, maybe that will improve my mood a bit. later!

Oh I dream of going and getting my hair done. I doing the should I get it chopped for summer or will I regret it thing. Miss indecisive.
I think Mels getting better. Last night she texted me that she and Tam had gone to the pub before going to dinner at my sisters place ( as you do when you know you are about to be set upon by a mob of unruly children) . And she said the bar was " hot " in fact she said he was "soooo hot that they had to stay and have another drink'. Guess they really are my daughters after all.
Im going out for dinner tonight chinese and Im just going to try and choose wisely but not go neurotic over it. because we lost the netball this is our " training" This could take off.
Well better go Im supposed to be sewing.
I bet you'll be back in full swing and loving the peace and quiet before you know it. enjoy yourself you deserve time out from kids
see you tomorrow

I can relate. I have a niece ( Della) with Down's Syndrome who distroys the house every time she comes. They always bring her to Aunty Cathy's house 'cuz she likes the kids. I love her but I spend two days before she gets here putting things up high and three days after she leaves scrubing the marker/lipstick/butter/cold cream off of the wall/couch/floor/windows because we always miss something. My sister -in-law is a Saint. Her house is a disaster - but she is still a Saint.

Got to go.not feeling so hot this week. stress.

btw - I'll be laid off by november 15th. Oddly enough - I'm looking forward to it.
