North Dakota?
Not a huge population in north dakota, but I'd thought I'd give it a shot.
I live in Dawson -- 50 miles east of the State Pen and 50 Miles west of the State Hospital! |

Wahpeton? That's near Minnesota side, right? How long has it been since you left ND?
Gotta watch out for them thar tornados. I stayed in Lawrence, ks for a couple-a-years. about 40 or so miles from kansas city. . . I guess, depended on which kansas city (ks or mo?). These winters sure can be harsh! I was actually born and raised in Southern California. Whatchya moving to Denver for? |

Grand Forks update: Super Target now carries the lowcarb Doritios (nacho cheese and cool ranch) along with those cheese puffs with the little tiger guy, and their tortilla chips.
They also had progresso lowcarb soup (8 carbs per serving, I think); lowcarb quaker oatmeal brand bars, and a few other things worth checking out. They are in that "specials" area near the front grocery entrance. |

North Dakota here I come!
Glad to see that theres Low Carbers in ND -
I am not from ND but from the Twin Cities, MN and living in So Cal. We are in the process of planning our move to ND next spring. My DH is from ND (Cooperstown - close to no where). We're giving up the hectic crazy life of So Cal with the beautiful weather, the high crime, high cost of living, earthquakes, floods, fires and insanity to fine a new quieter life. I am 45 yrs old and a little nervous at the thought of living 100 miles to the closest city - we are planning to building our dream house about 10 miles out of town, a barn house to be exact. This move is definately going to be a cultural shock -I have been in So Cal for 20 yrs. I can't wait to see snow, lilacs and have quiet. I have been Low Carbing since May 25, 2003 - I have lost 55 pounds and am currently in a terrible 5 month stall - I had surgery in Jan and since then have not lost anything until just this week - down 5 pounds. YAAAAAY! I won't give up. When I started this WOE, I wore a size 18 jean - today I wear an 8 - what a great feeling - I have 32 pounds to go and I am not stopping - I will make it to goal. I would love to correspond with others from ND. I would be fun to share ideas, thoughts and support about this woe. KG |

KG - Where in So Cal do you live? I grew up in So Cal. . . well it is considered southern cal but actually more central. Ventura. 20 years in sunny, southern california? I'm thinking the weather will be more of a shock to get re-used to rather than the fewer people.

Deanna,
I am in North Orange County - north of Anaheim. I have also lived in San Diego. Both places have grown beyond belief. Venutra has also grown a lot in the last few yrs. I was up there a few weeks ago. I realize that readjusting to cold weather will be very hard after so many yrs of living in So Cal. We are spoiled with beautiful weather. I will miss my lemon trees. I won't miss the traffic, the crime and all the other problems associated with city living. I think my biggest adjustment will be bugs - mosquitos. We just don't have that problem here and I know ND does. I can't wait to have a garden and grow my own veggies, my herbs, and have peace and quiet. We are going to ND in two weeks to look for property to build on....shouldn't be much a problem. We definately don't want to live in town. I better run, the fireworks are going off and the dog is not one bit happy about it. KG. |

Oh yeah, MOSQUITOS! and WOOD TICKS!!! I forgot about that! Not that I'm used to it, there are times (although it has faded quite a bit) when I miss the days when I can just lay on the lawn, watch the sunset and the stars. . . I haven't done that FOREVER! I think I've tried it a few times, but the awful scent of "OFF!" pretty much ruins it. I remember camping as a child and actually sleeping under the stars. . . I wouldn't DREAM of doing that here.
Have fun with your property search! Should be pretty exciting. I started Atkins in May 2003. I lost 60 pounds in about 6 months and have pretty much stalled since. . . I keep going from 160-170. I'd like to lose another 30 pounds. . . this week I'm back up to 170, so I guess i should say I'd like to lose another 40 pounds. I have lost motivation because I feel so great. . . the other reason is, I can't seem to get down below 160. I will go back to Atkins, and feel absolutely WONDERFUL and wonder why the heck I don't just stick to that way of eating! I lose until I get to 160, I hang in there for a few weeks, then I slowly start adding in BAD BAD stuff! I know I need to start exercising in order to get beyond 160, but living 50 miles away from work, hauling my 3 and 4 year old with, leaves not a lot of time to work out. I'm not saying it's impossible to work out, it just makes it EXTREMELY difficult. Glad to meet you KG! When you finally settle in ND, what do you two plan to do?

Hi Deanna,
Ohhhhh, I forgot about the wood ticks in ND - yikes.,...its been a lot of years since I had to deal with those critters...guess I will get used to them. I really hate mosquitos though..not sure I will ever get used to them. Your stats are pretty similar to mine. I started May 25, 03 - I started at 212 and lost 55 # - without any trouble. It was slow and steady. I did it on South Beach. In Jan. I got really sick (not diet related) and had major surgery - I now have a 10" scar down the middle of my belly - guess there won't be any teeny bikini in my future...lol. Since the surgery I have not been able to lose anything....the scale just sits there. I feel so good and continue to stay on the program. I posted in another area about my stall. Someone suggested going on induction....I started on Sunday. Of course I can't stay off the scale each morning - my weight is down one pound...I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is doing the trick. I have gone from a size 16/18 jean to an 8, so that makes me pretty happy. My goal is a 6 - about 23 more pounds and I should be at goal....these last 20 might kill me or make me insane! I totally understand when you say up a few pounds and then back down. You have done great so far...keep it up, it will eventually come off. You said you drive 50 miles to work - yikes, I complain because I drive 8 miles...but I bet it takes me longer to get 8 miles than it does for you to go 50 miles..I sit in bumper to bumper traffic the entire 8 miles....I am so burned out on it. I am a corp travel planner for a large company - I am planning on taking my job with me to ND when we move - I can sit in any seat in the world and do my job. You must be east of Jamestown? We will be driving through your area on July 30th. We usually fly to ND but this year we are driving and trailering our Harley Davidson's - My husb and I both ride - and I can't wait to ride without a million cars and just ride and enjoy the prairies, ton bales, sheep, bugs and all!! I guess I must have been having a mid-life crisis when I told my husband that I no longer wanted to ride on the back of his bike and that I wanted to ride my own...that was 2 yrs ago and 2 bikes ago. I now ride a 2004 Dyna Low Rider...a purple one...I am totally addicted. Its nice that you have two little ones - I imagine that they keep you pretty busy and on the run. We have a son, 17 yrs old. He graduated last yr and is working for my husb and will start school in fall. He won't be coming to ND with us this year or when we move. He will be 18 and busy with school and work - for the next 18 months we will be busy getting him set up and on his way. It's going to be hard to let him fly from the nest. Yours are so little yet...enjoy it while you can..they grow up way too fast. Time to run, it was great hearing from you - post again. Oppps, I wrote a book. Take care...keep up the good work with your weight loss...its hard..I know..I am in the same boat. Kathy |

Hey everyone, I have no idea what I am doing...but I thought I would try. I am from Grand Forks. I'm on Atkins. It has been almost a month for me, and I am loving it!!! I am down about 13 pounds. I did this diet once before then had 2 more kids and gained it all back and more. I have now decided to make this a life change instead of a diet. That's about it. Talk to you later!

Hi Jaxyray,
Welcome to the ND support. Not a lot happening here - I am new to this forum. 13# in less than a month, thats pretty good. You did this one other time, I am sure you will do it again. You are right about this being a life change. I can't imagine eating junk again. I won't say that I will never eat a french fry or burger with a bun again,..I just won't make it a habit. I have family near Grand Forks and will be there in a few weeks. Hope your mosquitos aren't too bad this year. They seem to LOVE me. Nice that you came here to say hi. Hope to see you again, keep up the great weight loss. Kathy |

Hey JaxyRay - GF here too!! Have you frequented the Low Carb Pantry yet? Just went today and stocked up on my fave pancake mix.
Feelin' Fine - Mosquitos are as bad as ever, even though we've been cool this year! I've only been to Cooperstown once, have relatives in Aneta. Kind of neat and hilly near Cooperstown, tho, pretty country. Hope you have a great trip up here! |

Nanner,
Glad to hear that the mosquitos are waiting for me. I heard it was cooler there this year...thats a good thing. I hope the humidity stays away. You think Cooperstown is hilly? - yikes, I thought it was flat..guess it is compared to where I live. I love how green it is there. It is a nice small community and I am looking forward to moving there next year. It will certainly be an adjustment after living in the LA area for so long. No more convenience shopping, Nordstroms, theatres with 20 screens...I will take the quiet life. We have family in Aneta too. Can you tell me where the Low Carb Pantry is in GF? I would like to check it out when I get there. Kathy |

The Low Carb Pantry is on South Washington - if you come in on old Highway 81, you'll be coming in from the south, and it's in a strip mall next to a big car lot (Rydell). You'll also see TCBY/Little Ceaser's/Caribou Coffee/Subway complex on the same lot as the strip mall. If you take the Interstate into GF, I can give you different directions. Just let me know when you need them. |

I do go to the low carb pantry. It is great, but I usually try to eat the real foods instead of the products. Maybe when I get closer to my goal weight I can enjoy more of the foods they have in there. As for the mosquitos my husband sprays for them once a week and we have NONE! It is great. I highly recommend it especially if you have kids. I have 3 by the way...5,3,2. It is pretty exciting!!! I will be back soon. It is cool to know that some of you are from Grand Forks. I makes me feel less lonely on the low carb diet. Thanks.

Cool! MORE ND people!
feeling fine - I am west of Jamestown. 50miles east of bismarck, 50 miles west of jamestown. I am back on atkins again, hoping to get passed the 160 mark that I just CANNOT get passed. The WOE used to be my WOE, WOL. I have no idea why I went back to junk crap! I feel horrible when I eat that stuff. . . it's a world of difference when I eat the Atkins way. I LOVE motorcycles! I used to have one. . . not a harley though. I miss riding it. You'll really enjoy the ride over here. When I was out there, I loved driving in the traffic (not LA traffic, mind you). But when I got on my motorcycle, had to ditch the traffic and enjoyed the scenic cruises. Nanner- do you lose the same amount of weight when you eat the low carb dealie-bobs? I think that is when I first hit my stall. but, I was more to the extreme. Just kinda curious if you still lose weight and how much or how many times you can eat the low carb goodies before stalling. jaxyray - congrats on the 13 pounds. since you posted on the 9th and it is now the 20th. . . I hope there is more good news! |

Hi Deanna,
Glad to see you on the board again - I thought you were between Jamestown and Bismarck. Cooperstown is just on the east and a bit north of Jamestown. We are leaving next Wedneday night - and should be in Cooper by Fri. We are not pushing it any too fast. I finally broke my stall - I was the same weight for 5 months and very discouraged to say the least. I went on induction - its been 2 weeks and am down 6 pounds. I am just a slow loser....I don't care...6 pounds is 6 pounds. I can count the number of times on one hand in the last 6 months that I ate off the plan - I have been so loyal and also avoid Frankenfoods..I think they stalled me the first time. I eat clean now. Hopefully the weight loss will continue - I am on my last 20 pounds - its been a real journey but one I am glad I took. I can't imagine eating crap junk food again. I feel way too good. Glad to hear you are back on track and working hard at it....the scale will fall below 160 - just give it time. I sure hope it's not too rainy when we arrive in ND - not used to rain anymore - and hope those mosquitos aren't too bad either..I am going to pack the "Off". Take care, Kathy |
