Rocky's Friends- April 2004

Hey everybody- having a hectic day- the kids are mad because I'm ignoring them while I'm trying to get everything done around here, dh is mad because I yelled at him for adding a whole bunch of stuff on the list of things we need to take on our trip we are leaving on tomorrow, when I had already done my shopping so that I could have all day to pack. GRRRRRrrrr- don't think he has any clue how organized one has to be to pack everything for four people for even four days. we are going to the Great Wolf Lodge about three hours north of here- it is an indoor water resort. The rooms supposedly have log cabins inside them where the kids can sleep, there are game rooms, etcetera- hope it is fun. Wanted to just get away for a few days while the kids have spring break- sometimes I wonder whether it is worth it!

HOpe you all have a good weekend!

Hi everyone I am having to write this before Ive caught up with the latest news. I’m minus 4 internet hours for the next 2 weeks so Im having to slip in download and then respond next time. So please put up with my stupid tardy questions etc.
Hope everyone is doing well. Im glad to say that my 2 lbs loss for the month stayed lost even after our long liquid lunch. Tom is visiting at the moment so I hope that he’ll take a few more friends with him when he goes. Fingers crossed. Still wont know what’s happening on the work front for another 3 weeks. Went to my meeting and only managed to dribble a little bit. By the time I came out sweat was running down my back and the back of my knees. Id rather walk over burning coals than meetings and to think I used to work in admin. I get the feeling that I’m just being used for the next 3 weeks as its our 2nd busiest time of year in the store and then I think they’ll let me transfer. By then the other store will have trained up all their extra staff that they are putting on so I’ll be stuck with nothing. So I’m trying to just ignore it all.
Bobs moaning that he’s a netball widower as I disappear all day Sat. LOL (wonder what he’d be like if I was as busy as you lot). My littlies lost netball. C grade improved out of sight but still lost and my team actually won. Yah! Im sure that I should have lost 10lbs during that match including 5 lbs of flesh off my feet in the form of blisters. Managed to survive the whole game against some superwoman with mile long arms and only look slightly stupid ( ok maybe a lot stupid), however I really felt that I was lacking in energy. Wondering what I can do. I would think that I’m either in or pretty close to ketosis. But Im not getting a real energy rush just not feeling sluggish (thank goodness). Any one read anything on Atkins and competitive sport???
Oh by the way Thanks a lot. I am now addicted to poppers. Pippity pop pippity pop into the kitchen we hop hop hop. Open the oven its hot hot hot Now we’re addicted and we can’t stop. Of course it was better the second time around when I actually read the recipe and used ½ a chilli instead of stuffing the whole one. And yes I have learnt that I need to wear plastic gloves while cleaning them as I ended up with burning little blisters on my hands last time. And maybe the entire rasher of bacon around each was a bit greedy but oh so yummy. SO now all you see if you open the bottom of the fridge is bags of chillis. Red ones and yellow and green ones. Very decorative. So far noone else has had an opportunity to try them as I keep eating them ALL.
Well better go and get ready for work. Have a great day everyone
Kathy

Happy Sunday!

Kathy you are hilarious....and yup, you can find those same peppers in my fridge...i wonder if Lady T has any idea what she has started. I haven't really read anything about Atkins and competitive sports but there is probably quite a bit on the net....maybe when you have a few more surfing hours at your disposal.

You are brave....i'd be so chicken to play netball. I played girls lacrosse when i was younger...that was a nasty sport. Real dirty. I also played flag football with the boys team...now that was fun!!! Being the only girl in the league i was spoiled.

Scobee-your holiday sounds like a lot of fun. I can hardly wait for summer. And i think you're right, men have no idea what it takes to organize a four day trip for the whole family. Can you imagine the things that would be forgotten if you left it all to him.....

Well i fell off the wagon last night. Had some home made fries. Been a while. funny how when i eat fries i wake up with TOM the next morning. Stop laughing, it's true. At least i know what triggers it......so if i get a hysterectomy will i stop these cravings???? Oooh, talking about desperate measures!! Relax, i ain't gonna.

So today i'm back on induction. I actually prefer to be on induction when i have tom. It's my way of conquering the urge to eat myself out of house and home once a month. Zero tolerance kind of thing.

Spent the day out in the garden getting it ready yesterday. It was in the mid 20's so it was hot and sunny. Even got a little bit of a burn.....and a little stiff too. Sure was nice to spend some time out there.

Well, i'm off to get a little office work done. And clean my room. It is disgusting. Been on the run most of the week; i've got crap everywhere.

Happy Day!

Hi All.

Long time, no hear? I have been reading the posts and trying to keep track of everyone. You all have been so busy, it's hard to keep up.

I really don't have much time to post as I am very busy looking for a job and planning an annual town event. I did manage to find a part-time position and boy part-time is right. It is only 10 hrs per week, but I guess it gets me out of the house for 10 hrs. The town event gets me out of the house too, but only for the planning meetings. The rest of the time I am home doing things.

My WOE is non-existent right now. I have tried and tried but I am constantly going back to the comfort foods. My husband is having some medical problems right now and the medical clinic where we live, can not figure out what is wrong. They are referring us to a specialist, (pulmonologist) to find out why my 30 year old husband can't breathe. It has been very agonizing and terrifying for us both. We have an appoinment on April 7. Hopefully we will have some news.

I am glad that you all are doing well.

Monday Madness

My computer died - virus or worm - or something evil. Dh and I had to drive to Lake Champlain yesterday cause that is where the cd's were to re-establish everything. Had to re-format the hard disk. Lost many things. Luckily, I think I got to back up files that I need for taxes.

Anyway, still no concrete word on new location, but we have a meeting Sat. at noon with the owners of another building in town. Keeping fingers crossed.

Will post more later, when everything else is set. Couldn't wait to read and get re-connected.

Lazy - July and August weather is beautiful here, better than June. So that might be better. Can't wait.....

hAPPY Monday!

Greetings....another beautiful day in Vancouver. We are getting spoiled big time. It's always so much easier to be happy when the sun is out.

Good luck with your meeting Susan. Hope everything works out. I think then it's gonna be late July early August for my trip. This will give me a good 3 months to recover from surgery..... I'll start looking on the net for some good deals on airfare. I can hardly wait.

QueenJ-saying lots of prayers and sending good Karma your way. I hope everything works out. It's so scary when they can't tell you what is wrong....sometimes it just takes them a while to figure things out...will send that list that you want!

Mom has had a really rough week. Nausea not getting better and her hair started falling out this weekend. And as much as she claims it doesn't bother her and that she is ready for it I can see she is really struggling. so Friday she decided that she needed to try some Mary Jane. So we arranged some for her and this morning i crushed it up and added it to some peanut butter and put it on toast....couldn't eat it. so then we rolled some up and she had a couple of puffs.......i have to tell you that this is the weirdest experience.....teaching your mom how to smoke pot. anyways, she had some and yeaaaaaaaaa the room finally stopped spinning and she actually ate a huge breakfast...lol. I told her that i'll have to go out grocery shopping---she's gonna eat me out of house and home....We had a good laugh; that's all we can do. My mother has been an anti-drug crusader all of the life, i can only imagine how difficult it was for her to 1) take the drug and 2) smoke it---she hasn't smoked for over a year...

I'm just glad that we found something that is gonna help her.

Back on the wagon....even though i feel like eating everything in the house(maybe i sat to close to Mom when she went outside earlier....lol). I am soooooo bloated with TOM....just hate it...

Well back to work....tons of paperwork to catch up on.

Have a great day!

Kari, all I could picture was "That 70's Show" when they're all sitting in their circle in the basement. Does Mom like brownies? I've never tried the stuff, or any stuff. But if it helps, go for it

I've heard alot about those brownies...thinking i may have to make them for her. I don't really like the idea of her smoking.

Chemo again today, worst yet. Poor thing. I've got her snuggled up in bed; i'm just hoping that she'll sleep some of it off.

Making better food choices. And am rereading Atkins for Life. I'm moving on as soon as i've recovered from surgery and i'm really looking forward to adding a few new things into the mix.

Well i suppose i should go and get some work done......and think about what i'm gonna eat for lunch. Maybe i'll whip up to Subway for an Atkins wrap....fast and easy.

Have a great day!

Hey everyone!!!! I'm still here!!!!!

I have been sooooo busy. If I tried to relate it all we'd have to start a May thread

I'll try to make it short... these past few days have been... slash cutting, slash burning, slight sunburn/slash fire burn, bruises, scratches, lawn mowing, stove scrubbing, mouse chasing, bed moving, shelf building, shelf moving, computer installing, trash cleaning, sister bashing busy

I haven't turned on my computer at home (except to log in bills paid) in.... gosh.... 3 or 4 days!!!

I'll try and catch up soon

In addition to the brownies, Lazy D, you can also mix it spaghetti sauce. Just make sure the entire family doesn't eat it.

Hi everyone, Having a stressy couple of days here and just want choccy. So far Ive managed to subsitute with legal things but Ive run out and things are looking grim. Firstly my best friend is hospital in Adelaide. She is having her 2nd angioplasty(sp) in 3 days. She has a narrowing of one of the veins at a really tricky spot and they are trying again today. She had breast cancer in ’99 2000 and opted for the radiation therapy instead of the chemo and evidently they over shot and have caused scarring in the heart. Hopefully it will work today or else it’s a bypass. They were supposed to op at 8.00 this am but have moved her to this afternoon so they can have much time as possible. I hope Im not being a worry wart but it doesn’t sound as if they are confident to me. Does it?
Secondly When are we allowed to shoot them and get away with it Have been tile shopping with HIM so we start at the $19 a metre tile but I wanted the $25 ones . So we go to another shop where mine are cheaper so now they are in the just possible range next thing hes walking around with a $39 tile chatting with the salesman about the WOW factor. So ok I get my heart set on them and he drags me around all day yesterday getting caret to tone with the tiles and everything else. And eventually after absolutely starving me til I swear my blood sugar was nil we finally make a decision. Then we get home and he decides the tile are really too expensive and if we cant talk the guy down in price we cant have them. Can I shoot him now please please.
And to top it all off I did one of those stupid things that you tell your kids not to do and stabbed myself in the finger with the steak knife. And now Im sitting here feeling sorry for myself and the poppers wont cook fast enough. Whaahhhh whhahh whhaahhh.
Okay Im back. Ouch they’re hot ouch they’re hot. Feeling better now. Think I need to find thinner bacon because Ive used so much doing these.
Well I’ll post this and see whats been happening with you guys.
By the way are we doing a double of nothing challenge for this month a whole 4lbs or is that too hard with easter???
Kathy
Ps noone else has yet to taste the poppers as Im eating them ALLL....

Go ahead, shoot HIM

Bar Belle - I hear ya. Aren't they just amazing? You go through picking out something you just love and then they think they have a right to change their mind. That right only belongs to women! So go ahead, shoot him. Good going with netball. Your kids will do just fine. Tell them to act like you. Well, on second thought.... My bil just had open heart surgery Monday. Had 5 veins replaced. He is doing beautifully now, out of intensive care already. Thank goodness. Will say a prayer for your friend.

Lazy - Only about 110 days before you visit. Not that I am counting, or anything like that... Hugs to your Mom. Things are so tough. You are in my prayers.

Zukpr - Congrats to Erika. The cake, well, she only gets confirmed once.....

Queenj - Sounds like your dh is having a hard time. Is he possibly allergic to something? Hope everything is resolved soon.

Scobee - Great Wolf Lodge! Sounds wonderful. Again, can you please adopt me? You and your family do such fun things. All except the packing that is. Go ahead, shoot HIM!

Lady Texun - Thank you - I too am now a popper fan. Made some the other day. They are great. Sounds like you are really busy. Sounds like your place is really getting shaped up. Now don't kill yourself with all this work. Did you catch the mouse?

Tuesday, dh and I visited my cousin in the western part of NY to attend an auction she told me about that was selling restaurant equipment. I haven't even met with the possible new landlord, but I have my hopes set high. I ended up buying 6 tables; 3 of one kind and 3 of another. I also bought this cool stainless steel table with a butcher block top that will serve as a work island in the new kitchen space. The other stuff was great, but large scale, so that was all I could get. I am already envisioning how it will look. Here's hoping my cart isn't too far in front of the horse. It is so exciting to work with a blank slate. Expensive, but exciting.

Well, got to go work on taxes. Whaaaaaa!!!

Another thought

Scobee - I just saw the Great Wolf Lodge website. Wow! What a fantastic place. It is so large. They even had a picture of the room with the kid's log house that they sleep in. How cool is that! They even have a place called "Loose Moose Cottage". Please do tell how you enjoyed this place. Sure wish it was closer to here. I would love to take my grandsons there. And indoor watersports, 84 degrees, no matter what the weather. Okay, enough of my day dreaming, get to the taxes....

mmmmm... "spiked" spaghetti sauce... mmmm talk about getting the munchies and curing them all at the same time

I used to have (in my younger much, much younger days) a cookbook for.... uhhhh... the spice known as cannabis. There were, of course, the famous brownies as well as rice pilaf and meet loaf as well as many others. I of course never made any of the recipes. yeah!!

Susan... no I didn't catch the mouse, but I am now an official baby killer. She had 7 little ones under my bed side table!!! Even though I know how destructive they are I still felt bad having to "dispose" of them. I caught 6 the first day then the next day she moved the remaining one into my chest of drawers so I had to clean it out and take care of that one too. She must have moved on because I've had a trap out for 2 days, baited first with cheese then with peanut butter and still no bigger mouse. But I did catch 2 others about 2 weeks ago, in traps, one in the kitchen the other in the bathroom. I guess when they heard David moved out they figured I was an easy touch and they could move in

Yeah the property and house are really getting into shape, but you have to remember, I am dealing with 20 years of typical male junk collection. It's a case of "I wanna" so he'd pick up something he thought he'd use someday, he'd bring it home, unload it and it'd sit until the grass and weeds covered it up. I've come home and cleaned every day and still have tons and tons to do, but at least I'm keeping busy and really pleased with the things I'm getting done. I call it "making it MY place"

Lazy... hope to hear your mom is feeling better soon, my thoughts are with you

greengal... hope to hear a good report about your friend, give her my best

I'm staying good food wise, but not losing any weight at all, as a matter of fact I was up a total of 3 pounds by today. I'm afraid I'm not eating enough fiber or veggies... I get so busy I forget to eat LOL. I may, finally!!!, be in that stage, because of all the work I've been doing, putting on muscle so I'm not seeing a drop in the scales. Then again the weather has been real warm lately and I retain water during warm weather, you'd hardly know it by how bad I sweat LOL

OK guys, I'll check in again later.

cya

HI everyone
The sun is shining and Im going to get my hair done and I'm back at my all time low. Again. Third time lucky. Now if I can just get past Easter.
My friends op was a success they didn’t do it til late yesterday and kept putting people in front of her so they would have as much time as possible to get it done and they did. It was such a relief I suddenly could think again. Of course if she thinks she’s going to smoke again. Huh! Tis I super nag the nemesis of all smokers. Consider yourselves all nagged.
Ill stick a couple of pictures of new houses under construction on the board tomorrow.
Queen J hope things go well with hubby
Susan horrible about the computer. I would be in big trouble as I keep putting of doing back up files.
LD Im imagining a house full of smoke and some crazy cookie baking going on with lots of giggling and then Im imagining dh and dd coming home and catching you both. Okay so I have a vivid imagination but you go girls. Tell Mum to keep her chin up. I just love the way that everyone has a recipe.
Have discovered a very important thing. There is a point beyond which the body rebels and says No more poppers. Of course Im not actually saying how many. You would be horrified. But I ended up with heartburn everytime I bent over at work to pick up a box. But is the lesson learnt. No what did I have for breakfast. I opened the fridge and they called “Eat ME Eat me!!” What could I do?
Well I hope that you all have a wonderful Easter and I will catch you all next week.
Happy holidays
Kathy

Hello, hello, hello!! Twice in one day, WOW will wonders never cease??

I'm trying out my new computer. My boss gave me an 866 (the one I have at home is a 766) this new one I'll install 256 Mb of ram so I can install PhotoShop Pro. I had to buy a modem today 'cause it didn't have one... silly!!

Anyway, thought I'd check and see if I got it installed OK, and I guess I did 'cause here I am (I know, I'm a little goofy lately, my boss says I've been in a much better mood lately )

OK, gotta sign off for now, have taco burgers cooking. Just put green chilies and cheese on them.

Besides I still have a ton of things to do to get both my computers set up... next week I'm going to get a KVM switch so I can use both computers and only one monitor.

Hugs to everyone

Hello

Hello Critterma - so good to hear from you. You are right, this board covers everything. Yes, some of us are going to get together. How about you? Want to come to the Northeast? If you book now, airline prices might be affordable. Think about it. We are going to have so much fun.

Lady Texun - you "digital goddess," you. New computer and all. Make sure you don't work too hard on the dust and stuff, leave some time to post on this board. And people are noticing you are in a better mood. Amen to that! You are starting to shine, girlfriend. It's like you have been released from a caccoon. Be the butterfly you were meant to be. Thinking of that song, "I hope you dance."

Bar Belle - Congrats on making it back to your all time low. I am envious. Maybe having all those poppers helped you get back to your low weight. I think I have to make more. And great news about your friend. My bil is doing very well, so far. Thankfully he never smoked. They sure can work miracles these days.

Zukpr - no spagetti sauce at the Moose - that would require "cooking!" LOL.

Lazy Daisy - What airport would you be leaving from? Thought I would keep an eye on prices as well. Would you be going to Toronto first, or coming to NY? Zukpr is about 5-6 hours from here. Hey, Cat, where would she fly into by you? By me, either Albany, NY or Burlington, Vt are the closest airports. I think the better prices would be to Albany. That is about 2 1/2 hours south of Lake Champlain. Burlington is about an hour east, but a smaller airport. I am so excited.

Scobee - Wheeeeee - that's you going down the waterslide. I bet you are having fun.

Queenj - How's dh? How's the job hunt going?

I'm an hour and fifteen away from Toronto, or as the locals say - "T" Dot., and 45 minutes away from Buffalo.

Are you coming for business or just to hang out with us eastern chicks?

I've been sooo bad - can't seem to climb back on the wagon. I'll try again today.

You guys make me smile everymorning.

Catharine -just like that.

Remember this? Needs to be said............

News Bulletin from the Food Police

Be on the look out for the Lard Fairy!

She was spotted hoping across the yard disguised as a rabbit wearing a quilted pastel vest.

She appeares to be armed with chocolate, sugar jellies, jelly beans, marshmallow chicks and horribly mutilated chocolate bunnies and chickens.

The Lard Fairy is armed and dangerous and should be treated as a hostile target. She can be melted with H2O.

Should you see her, direct her to our decoy detatchment, Weight Watchers. They will make short work of her.

Should you decide to take matters into your own hands, I understand that barbequed rabbit is tasty, as is egg salad.

A reward of looking goooood in a bathing suit is being offered.

BE VIGILANT---THE LARD FAIRY TAKES MANY FORMS AND NO HOSTAGES!

Oh NO! The Lard Fairy again....

Thanks for the reminder about that darned rabbitt. I will be on the lookout for it.

Made the flaxmeal crackers again today. Made a double batch and rolled it into one round thin cracker, like a pizza crust. This time I baked it on a pizza tray in the oven, 400 degrees for 10 minutes. This turned out much more like a cracker. I then mixed up some cream cheese, horseradish and mustard and spread it all around on half the cracker. I then put slices of pepperoni on it. Folded it in half and ate it for brunch. It broke off in small sections and made an interesting taste change. I think that I don't like the garlic salt, cause it makes it a bit too salted. I think that the sunflower seeds were also salted. And I could see putting some ground pecans or walnut flour in with the mix to make it more dessert-like. Or I might try putting some ground beef or sausage meat on it with some salsa and make it more pizza-like. Then I could see it with an egg omelet and cheese on it... Oh the possibilities.

Got my tax info faxed to the tax man. Not good news. We owe, we owe, we owe, so it's off to work we go...... Thank goodness we are doing okay in retirement, but it does seem unfair that we have to pay so many taxes when we really don't work anymore. Oh well, it is worth it living in the free world. I guess I will stop complaining.

Have a good night.

Happy Good Friday Ladies!

Oh boy the board has been busy!!

Spagetti... i love it. She is doing much better today....been a rough couple of weeks. The next two weeks she will gradually improve as her immune system starts to repairs itself...and then it's back to a rough couple of weeks when they come in and kill everything again....what a rollercoaster ride.

Greengal-saying lots of prayers and sending good karma to your firend; sounds like everything went in her favour...guess what i'm having for dinner tonight..you got it poppers!!! love em.

Lady T-sounds like you are making a dirty nasty job into alot of fun....i'm really envious of all this 'new' found energy you have...and don't worry about the weight. You are so right about the muscles weighing more. Probably take 4-6 weeks before you see a budge on the scale from all the work you are doing....

Zukpr & Susan-i am so EXCITED about my trip. It's a mixture of both business and pleasure. I have to get the okay from my doc, on Wednesday, and then i'm pretty much ready to book....

I'm looking at getting in to Toronto on Wednesday Aug 4. I have some business to do during the day that won't take up too much time. I was hoping maybe to spend some time with Catherine on Wednesday and Thursday night or whatever time you can manage to spare.....on Friday i head up to Barrie for a little more business and to spend the night with friends in that area. Then on Saturday and Sunday i will spend some time with a girfriend who just moved to Ontario. And then i'm going to head down to see Susan on Monday or Tuesday.....and i'll stay as long as she'll have me....lol... I was thinking till Friday or something like that...
And susan you were reading my mind about the airports....i got on line last night to take a look at the flights and was lost once i realized that there are 3 airports in NY)*)(&(*

The flight are really cheap right now...i'm only looking at 168 to get to TO.....

DID I SAY HOW EXCITED I AM!

Mmmm, that cracker recipe looks good. I haven't really spent anytime with new recipes, other than the poppers. I just don't have much time to spend in the kitchen these days.

Love the rabbit post.....reading our daily posts always puts a big big smile on my face...

Have i told you all how much i love you guys lately??? I do.

Have a very Happy Easter...........and stay strong. Summer is right around the corner!
