I am not currently living in the Cleveland area, but I grew up in Painesville. I live in Toledo now, have relatives in the Cleveland area and visit there periodcially. If you post your message on the Main Low Carb board, you will most likely get a lot of responses.

In Akron
I live in Akron and started Atkins in July of last year. I have comiitted to this life style change and for the most part am "OK" with my choice. I have not cheated once and I look at this as an alcohlic looks at booze. My problem just happens to be sugar and carbohydrates. I have lost 80 pounds so far. The only bad news is that I have stalled for the past few months. I think it is because my body just freaked and said wait a minute. At any rate... enough of me chattering. I know there are lot's of low carb lifer people in our region and it would be great to get to know some of them. -

I'm in Euclid
Hi! I am new to this site and very excited. I am also looking for others to chat with about this whole low carb thing. I have been on low carb for about 2 weeks now. The scale hasn't budged but my clothes are a bit looser. I need to take a better look at what I'm eating to see what I'm doing wrong. I do admit that I feel so much better without eating breads, pasta and staying away from sugar. It's been a while since my body actually feels better. I hope we can chat sometime soon. Please feel free to email me and I am looking forward to hearing from fellow low carb friends.
Take care and good luck all! |

I'm in Massillon...Canton's next door neighbor. I work in Akron. I started Atkins Sept 1 of last year and am down over 50 pounds since then. It'd be great to talk to and maybe meet some people from this area sometime!

OMG! I discovered....
Atkins Bake Mix!!! I don't think I will use it often, it is expensive and very dense after getting used to eating so "light", but I made berry muffins tonight and I was afraid that I would gobble them all up after I made them. They are good, but one was VERY satisfying .. can't wait till breakfast!
![]() Edited to add: Before any of you go to any trouble, I know that there are recipes to make my own bake mix to cut down the cost, so I will be trying them at some point. ![]() Rupps! I posted this on the wrong thread. hehe

Hi Niki! Hey...Love your wesite. I should start putting one together myself...then I'll have somewhere else to show off my lovely daughters! I think the Shrek/Fiona reference is awesome- great creative angle. I'm a major animal lover too- they all taste so good (JUST KIDDING!!) I've had dogs and cats around me my whole life and really couldn't imagine not having a dog to come home to.
Its great seeing someone else in the area Low Carbing- I've only met one other person and I only ran into her at a grocery store like 3 days into my diet. I've yet to run into anyone else doing this. I know they're out there though because Walmart over there at Massillon MarketPlace sells out of the carb countdown pretty much as soon as they get it in. Hope we can all get together sometime...it would be great to have a local support group! |

Well Debi...I see you just restarted- how's that going for you? DID you go with a clean induction??
Niki...Looks like you're doing great with the loss! Don't worry about fluctuating weights- it's totally normal. (I see you didn't know which weight to post because it's bouncing like a basketball) You can't control your body's natural swing in water no matter how hard you try. We all have a normal water swing. You CAN cause yourself to add more water than normal by eating something you have a reaction to (as is mentioned in DANDR.) Sodium is a big one for that...but certainly not the only thing. My normal swing is about 4 pounds but I know alot of people that swing as much as 8 pounds with water. There are times you'll run into 2-3 weeks stretches with no change to the scale too. You'll fret about it if you are addicted to that scale. Don't worry about it...it's going to happen. You'll usually see changes most using a tape measure when you hit these times. OK....there's some chat started!! |

Great start on the chat! Thanks for the support. It does get frustrating. All I want is to see the scale moving down down down! And, it is, but..... you know...I want MORE! I want it all!!!!

Yeah I know...it wasn't until recenty I was really addicted to the scale too. Believe me- I completely empathize with you! If I remember right (I better go back and RE-READ DANDR YET AGAIN) Dr A mentioned the real scale for weight loss was a month to month scale...not week to week. It's so hard to stayoff of that scale though. To be honest, I myself still weigh daily....but then, I now have a different attitude about it then most people so that's ok for me. It's a motivational tool for me and I don't put a whole lot of emphasis on what it says. If I woke up tomorrow and it weighed me at 10 pounds heavier then I was yesterday....I'd rejoice rather then let it upset me. How many other people could say that. I'd rejoice because I believe that THAT is exactly what Dr A had in mind. I believe that one of the most important points that the Atkins diet gets across is the ability to ISOLATE your problem foods. This isn't all about losing a ton of weight...it's about living at your goal weight, and at your healthiest, for the rest of your life. Sure...I could stay at induction levels for a year and lose all the weight I wanted straight down to goal. But what in the HE#@ would that have taught me. The diet was designed as an exact process to TEACH you to find those foods that cause a "reaction" in your body...those are the foods that caused your weight problem to begin with. Some reactions could be that it causes you to retain a ton of water (sometimes not until a couple of days later as I have learned)....that is what would have happened in the case of me weighing 10#s heavier (oh yeah...remember that way back in this message). Therefore at 10#s heavier I have had a eureka moment...I MUST have eaten something different that caused it and THEREFORE I have learned to remove it completely from my diet. WOOHOO! On the other hand...a reaction to a food could be as subtle as causing a craving or making you snore or a hundred other things. I've learned through the Atkins deductive process that my ghastly snore that wakes the neighbors up at night and causes young dogs to tuck their tails between their legs....is caused by corn products. I have removed all corn products (as much as I absolutely love them) and have never snored one single night since then. Funny how our bodies work isn't it??
So...Do you exercise at all? What do you do? |

Don't think there aren't other NE Ohioans eavesdropping????
goTribe, I have to agree with you. I am definitely learning that this whole thing is about learning how to live (and eat) for a lifetime. That is exactly what separates low carb living from a fad diet. 'If you don't plan on doing it forever, why even get started.' I am in this for the long haul and continue to learn more about myself all of the time. I think I have reached a point where I need to deal with some of my food issues in the mental arena (where this WOE makes it much easier to see where I have issues with food without the chemical hold sugar had on me.) It would be great if the scale moved quickly, but what really would that gain me? I'd learn that I could lose weight fast so I might not think it is worth it to keep it off. Those things we have to fight for are the greatest rewards.
Whatever you do Niki, don't give up!!! No matter how many detours you take on the way, you will arrive. (I'll meet you there, o-kay?) Jen |

Oh, there's no giving up here
but thank you I also agree with you both that this is definitely a WOL for me. I am sticking close to induction levels and foods until I am much closer to goal, but I do intend to go through the entire process so that I will learn where I maintain, where I gain and where I lose. That is very empowering. Once I reach goal (which may not end up to be 135#), I fully intend to have an occasional treat that isn't according to Atkins. I say that now, but may end up changing my mind. Who knows? At any rate, I know my weight gain was definitely a mental thing and not so much a physical addiction and I have dealt with the mental and emotional aspects of over-eating and overeating the wrong things. That part of me has been fixed for a few years now, but I found that I was maintaining beautifully. That was great IF I wanted to maintain at 300+ pounds LOL which I did NOT want to do So here I am doing the Atkins thang. I am thankful for having found the "magic" of Atkins. It seemed to be the logic behind the science that even gave me some hope that it MIGHT work for me, too. Once I read some success stories, I KNEW that it could work for me. There are no detours for me, it is full speed ahead. I do get frustrated with the scale because I am so anxious to continually see smaller and smaller numbers. I know that TOM and water weight has a lot to do with those numbers, but I know that 100# pounds of it is NOT water weight LOL ![]() It's nice chatting with you all. Thanks for the kick in da butt, Debi! |

Hello to you too g0tribe.
I wish things were moving a little more quickly for me, but obviously my body has a mind all to its own. I think I got a little too used to how things were moving along my first few months and now things have slowed down quite a bit. But at least the scale is not moving up!! Have a good weekend. I dont have my glasses on so I havent read all of above LOL but no i did not do an induction this time.......i started right with stillmans today will be day 13
I never eat veggies, never did Stillmans was a lot easier for me then induction was. i only made 2 weeks of induction once back in 2001 since then I have probably tried 50 times.. I think using Stillmans i got into ketosis so fast it made it much easier. I barely was in ketosis my first year on Atkins even though I lost 65 lbs

Good morning!
I am noticing a pattern. I lose for 2 weeks, I go up the third week and then maintain, then in the fourth week I maintain and start heading back down. Very weird. As long as I continue to make progress downward, I am happy. It gets frustrating during that 3rd week, so I am thinking maybe I should stay off the scale during that time....Yah, whatever...as IF! lol No bother. I know I am doing what I am supposed to be doing and, all in all, I am showing steady losses. I get a little scared that I will (at some point) have slower losses and not that it is a bad thing, but I know that I will get frustrated and discouraged if that happens. I suppose the better thing to do, is to allow it to motivate me more and get more exercise...something I don't do much of right now. I am going out tonight. Anyone have ideas for legal alcohol type beverages that are okay to drink and stay in ketosis? Normally I opt for a rum and diet coke. |

Sorry Niki posting alittle too late for your drinks last night!!
I usually go out on weekends but have stayed in and alcohol free for 2 weeks. When i did atkins 3 years ago I bounced in and out of ketosis, with the hour no matter what I did. So, this time I am in heavy ketosis(12 days now) and dont want to mess with it yet. What i found when I drank diet7up and whisky is I would lose the next morning but over the next 2 days it would come right back. Are u having tons of snow like we are this am?? I cant believe it 2 times already since April 1.....snow plows actually came down my street this am which is rare |

No problem. I stayed with Rum / Diet Coke. I'm not much of a drinker normally, but every once in a while I just gotta tie one on LOL I had a blast last night and danced my butt off! hehe It sucked that we were jipped out of an hour of music and dancing. Because of the time change, they closed up at 1am instead of two
I was ready for MORE MORE MORE! ![]() I am not sure if I got knocked out of ketosis or not (I don't do the strips), but since I am doing long-term induction, I will be back in within a day or so, so I'm not worried about it. It snowed like crazy last night while I was out, but the roads were just wet. This weather is nuts, huh? Hope everyone has a great day! |
