Hi - Here's another Cathy here from Pennsylvania - new to Atkins!

Hi Everyone. This is Cathy A. from Pa. I am brand new to Atkins. Just started induction this week. I've lost two pounds in 4 days.
I'm not having too much trouble yet- my biggest problem is missing pizza. I see from this forum that alot of you have the same issue going on. If I can make it past not having pizza I should be able to handle this. I have 60lbs to lose. I am going to an All inclusive resort in Cozumel Mexico on March 6th. I hope to have a fair amount of weight loss by that time. I am a bit worried about my self control when I will be on vacation. Frozen drinks and the buffet might become my nemesis. But I really want to lose this weight. I've never been this big in my life. I don't feel like myself at all! I look in the mirror and say how did this happen, ugh! Well I am glad I started and it is nice to know I'll have the support of all my friends here! Cathy A. from Pa!

Hi Deb nice to meet you!

Hi Deb! Congrats on your weight loss - keep up the good work!
I'll keep you posted on my progress. Right now I am suffering with an awful flu bug - don't feel light eating much of anything so I'm sure I must be losing but if I am it's not due to Atkins.
It's been a rough night and day. Aches, fever blah, blah, blah. Going back to bed now. Will talk to you later. Nice to meet you!

Hi Deb it's me again

Hi Deb,
Hang in there, there's bound to be a slow down or two. Are you drinking alot of water? Question - How often do you weigh yourself? When I first started I weighed myself everyday but I don't think I should do that. At first the scale showed a drop of 3 lbs and then the next day I was up 1 lb etc.... Maybe I should just weigh once a week. It is hard not to jump on that scale. I guess I'm just going to have to get out the tape measure too. I haven't done that yet. I am feeling a bit better today but really exhausted. No fever though. I told you that I am from Pennsylvania. That is true. However, right now I am living in Calgary, Alberta Canada until July. My husbands job transferred him temporarily here until July and then we will be back in Pa. It's cold up here right now. What is the weather like on the East Coast right now? I am a bit homesick. It's nice to have a buddy close to Pa. to talk to. Talk to you later. Have a great day. Gotta go drink my water. You mentioned you have a child. Boy or girl? How old? I have a 10 year old boy. I am homeschooling him right now while we are here in Canada. It is a challenge!
Bye for now. Cathy

Hi Deb K it's Cathy

Hey Deb,
Ooooo I was bad last night I had a lapse. I had hershey kisses in the house - bad news. You know what I did. The scale showed it already this morning (I ate half a bag!)
Don't know what possessed me. I think I was trying to see what I could get away with. Dum Dum Dum. Oh well, time to stop beating myself up. Today is another day. I'm feeling better now (flu) but now hubby has it. Poor guy is stuck three hours north of here in Edmonton with his mom. Too sick to drive home. My son is with him so the house is quiet. It feels strange. Wow there sure is an age diff with your kids but at least there is one good thing ----- you could have THREE little ones runny around at the same time - ha ha. Wish I could have had more but I can't (endometriosis - hysterectomy at 33) ended that. I am lucky to have Ryan Well gotta go. Have a great day today and keep on plugging away!

Hi it's me again.

Hi Deb, yep we were both naughty. Well I just don't want to give up this time. I am so sick of seeing my jiggly thighs and gut staring back at me in the mirror! Ugh. I tried a couple recipes from my one Atkins book last week. The Shrimp Parmesan is absolutely incredible! It takes a bit of time to prepart but boy was it worth it. If you want the recipe just let me know.
Oh, by the way my e-mail address is cathyrn@shaw.ca
I'd love to see a pix of your little boy. My brothers name is Jerry.
I'll send you one of me and Ryan. Well gotta go we are doing homeschooling (math- ugh) and I have to go see what he is up to right now. Talk to you later. Have a good day. Drink your water and I'll drink mine - we can check on eachother! Bye

Hi Debbie, Im from PA

Hi there, my name is Tammie. I am from Harrisburg PA. We have about the same amt of weight to lose it looks like. I would like to lose 50 pounds, I am at 178.6 (this morning, naked after the shower!!!).

I was always skinny, then after kids, 2 abdominal surgeries, well I got a bit LARGE !!

I started mid January with a gal at work. We are also about the same size, we are the same age. Her and I are losing at about the same rate as well. We are following the Carbohydrate Addicts diet.

I have the most trouble with my WOE when my son has soccer tournaments. Sometimes they are just a day's drive away and I can plan much better for those days but when we spend the weekend away and we are dodging between fields and concession stands it's really hard. We are in Wilkes-Barre last weekend from 3:30 till 10:30 at night and all I bought was 2 waters! I took some pepperoni and tea bisciuts. We also had a big lunch before we left. Next week we go to Loyola, PA for a college showcase and that's outside and it's very cold so I doubt there will be any concession stands to tempt me!

Well, hang in there. Give me a yell if you want to chat.

Take care,
Tammie

Cathy...

I wrote to Debby thinking it was you. Not that I don't want to talk to you too Debbie. Lack of sugar makes my mind go CrAzY!

I just wanted to let you know that I was from PA too. Not sure how close our cities are though.

Well, now that I feel like a goof, I should go.

Tammie

Hi Tammy it's Cathy

Hey Tammy,
Yes Harrisburg is not far from my home in Douglassville Pa. Maybe a little over an hours drive. Do you know where Reading Pa is? That is where I grew up. I moved to Douglassville which is 20 minutes east of Reading going towards Phila. due to my husband working in Philly. Nice to meet you. Yep, seems like we are about the same weight and are on the same track. Glad to be here to support you. I don't know if you read my earlier post to Deb K - but I am currently living in Calgary, Alberta Canada and am due to move back to Douglassville in June. My husband had a temporary job transfer up here. I don't know anyone here - it is so weird. So you girls on this bulletin board are keeping me sane. It sure is nice to have somebody to talk too during the day!
I am homeschooling my son - but some how conversations with a 10 year old all day long aren't quite the same thing! I've got a question for you guys. Have you ever experienced the following on Atkins?
After you've done the program for awhile and stayed away from Carbs ---- if you then slip up and eat some carbs ie: white bread (simple carbs) -- have you ever experienced bad abdominal bloating? Today, I was really good but I made a grilled cheese sandwhich for my son at lunch and without thinking ate a piece of the grilled cheese. I felt so bloated afterward. Ugh. I was just curious.

OK gotta go for now. Talk to you soon Tammy. Have a great day!

Hi Cathy

Great hearing from you. I have a friend that I met here in Pa (here because her husband works here) that lives in Shediac, New Brunswick. She loved spending the summers here. My daughter and I met her at the pool one summer and we became very good friends. Her hubby is almost done here in PA so we only get to chat through email now.

I work in an Educational Toy Store. We have alot of resources for homeschoolers. Most of our buisness is teacher based, and we are known for our cool toys.

My husband was born in Reading!! Both of his parents are from there. What a small world.

As far as the bloat goes, the only thing that bloats me is Atkins low carb choc. milk. I haven't slipped up with white bread. I don'r really miss bread to much. There are many other things that I miss alot.

Well, Hubby just got home. Time for supper.

Have a good evening
Tammie

Good Evening Tammy

Yes, it sure is a small world. Wouldn't it be a hoot if I knew who your husband was. Ha ha. Your friend from Canada is from the very eastern end of Canada. I am on the Western end living in the province of Alberta which is north of Montana. It is funny because before I met my husband who is originally from Canada I always thought of eastern Canada when anyone would mention it. Where we live we are 1 hour from the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It is very pretty but very cold. It is supposed to warm up this weekend - to about 60 degrees. I hope to get to the mountains Saturday and go out for Valentines day.
Well, gotta go. Guess I'm making hamburgers tonight. Nothing too thrilling. Don't have much energy - as I had the flu last week and am still trying to recover.
Have a great night!
Message for Deb K. - how's it going? Haven't heard from you lately - just checking in!

Hi Tammie, Cathy and Deb! Just wanted to tell you that I'm from Enola, PA. I work in Harrisburg, PA. Wow, Tammie, wouldn't that be wild if we ran into each other!

I've been on Atkins since January 17, and have only lost 5 pounds. That's okay though, because I know it will be slow for me because I have hypothyroidism and take medication for it, so my metabolism is already slow.

Good luck every one on your weight loss and new healthy way of eating.

Hi there Michele

wow, right across the river. How cool!! Do you have any kids in high school? My daughter and son go to Central Dauphin. Joel plays high school soccer.

We are about the same size too. I don't have anything going on and my metabolism is still slow. But Im losing and Im hoping to continue for a long while! I went to get my med's tonight at Weis and took my blood pressure which is always good, but low. It was 99/64 and pulse 79. Can't complain about that. I get cholestoral and liver enzymes tested in march.

I have a total of 3 kids, Nate (21), his girlfriend (19) and their daughter, my beautiful granddaughter, (2)......Joel (17) and Ambyr (15, will be 16 in March!). I work part time at the Learning Source on this side of the river. Have you ever gone to the one by where you live?

Well, gotta run. It's time to settle in with the kids and watch the 70's show and American Idol.

Take care,
Tammie

Ooh another American idol fan!

Hi Tammy - thanks for reminding me about American idol. Since I am in Canada and 2 hours behind you in time - I haven't seen it yet. I'll watch it later tonight. Did you see it last night?

Oh by the way Michelle - hi ! Nice to meet you too!

I was good at supper tonight burgers and salad. God I want chocolate though! I ordered the Atkins carmal chews online. 2 net grams of carbs each and boy do they taste great! I didn't get them in the mail yet so I am really trying to control myself.

Did anyone see Opray Winfrey today? Winonna Judd was on and is desparate and in what she says is the fight of her life with her weight and emotional issues which go hand in hand.

Opray and her team are going to try to help Winonna. It was pretty powerful. I guess she'll be on again in a few months so we can see her progress.

Gotta go for tonight!
Cathy

Hi Deb

Hi Deb,
So sorry to hear about the job. What kind of work are you in?
I went through something like that a few years ago. It was a very difficult time emotionally. I blame that experience and all the emotions for the beginning of my weight gain. I guess I didn't cope all that well with "change". The best advice I can give to you is to take one day at a time. Make small goals for yourself, and don't be too hard on yourself. Treat yourself well during this time. I am sure you'll be watching finances right now. But if you do small things to tell yourself your special ie: create a spa night for your self, bubble baths, self- pedicures, burn a candle, put on soft music and meditate. Most of all spend time with good friends who truly will be there to support you. Most of all keep with the Atkins program and keep checking in with us. We are rooting for you!
Thanks for your e-mail. I'll send you a picture of me and Ryan. Thanks Cathy

Good morning

Hi Tammie, Cathy and Deb.

Tammie - I have 2 girls that go to East Pennsboro High School. One is 18 and the other is 16. My 18 year old was the drum major of the marching band for the past three years. My 16 year old plays on the tennis team. They never played soccer. I only went to the Learning Source one time, many years ago, on the West Shore.

Deb - So sorry to hear about your job. I went through the same kind of stress 2 years ago when my boss was going to sell his firm. It was horrible. Ended up that he didn't sell, so I still have my job. Try to be good to yourself and, like Cathy said, seek support of good friends.

Cathy - For a chocolate craving, I made a Choc. Peanut Butter Cheesecake that was 4 carbs per serving. I found the recipe on the newbie's page in the main bulletin board. It truly hit the spot. I think it called for 2 cream cheese (8 oz.), 1 env. of Knox gelatin and you put that in 1 cup of boiling water. After that cools a bit, you put the Knox Gelatin water into the cream cheese and mix it with your mixer and add 12 packets of Splenda, 1 Tbsp. of vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp. of Hershey's cocoa and 1 Tbsp. of natural peanut butter. Pour all of it into a glass pie plate and cover and chill. Yum!

Just had to tell somebody.......I stepped on the scale this morning and lost another pound! So happy! My weight loss is so slow, but I have lost 2 pounds this week, and I am thrilled.

Have a great day!

Tammie - President Bush will be at your kids' school today! I heard on the news that only 300 were selected to actually sit and listen to him. Did any of your kids get chosen? How cool.

Good Morning Everyone

what a morning, and it's on'y 7:41!!!! The President of the United States is coming to my kids high school today. Well they asked everyone to show up for school and hour early today. Well, I dropped them off at 7:00 and it was nuts! Cops EVERYWHERE!!! They have all of the roads blocked off except for the one the directly feeds into the school. It's a traffice nitemare over there. The kids are very excited. They are choosing 300 students and teacher by random to be able to sit in the gymnasium to hear the President speak. The rest of the kids will see his speech on those big screens situated around the building. My son (Joel, 17) was saying the secret service guys are cool. I guess they have been wonderful with the kids, playing basketball with them, eathing lunch with them, etc.... Anyway, they have a big day ahead of them.

My diet allows me 1 carb meal per day. I can eat as many carbs as I want for one meal, for 1 hour. I always choose supper. Im very good though, however last night I had a piece of choc. cake!!!! I was scared to eat thinking I will just want more and more but I was so happy with myself. I ate it, and I was satisfied. Im not even tempted to have any more. We like our cake in a bowl with milk poured over it, but I didn't eat it like that last night. I also had a small serving a spaghetti and 1 1/2 wheat biscuit's. Today, I have a roast beef in the crock pot. My granddaughter is coming over and she loves roast beef.

I work 10-2 today, pick the kids up, take Joel to Orthodonist, pick up daughter in law to take to work, watch Kenzie till my son get's home from work, Joel has soccer at 5:50 but he is driving himself tonight.

My head hurts this morning. Im so sick of these stupid headaches. Im guessing they are diet related. I have read a few posts here regarding headaches but haven't been able to really figure out the trigger point.

Debbie: We haven't eaten there too! We don't live in the city. We live in the Colonial Park/Union Deposit Area. Sorry to hear about your job. Will you look for something else or just hang out for awhile? My job is a fun job, I just love it. However, Im really battleing whether or not I want to quit and watch my granddaughter full time cause her mommy is looking for a full time job. I know they can't afford daycare prices. I get paid nothing to this job but I guess since I love it, I don't really care so I wouldn't miss the money, just the job.

My email is tcorrell4@netzero.net if anyone wants to send me an email.

I was up by about 1/2 a pound this morning. I really need to stop weighing myself everyday! I think I will put the scale in the closet and only get it out on Fridays. Friday is good, before the weekend!!!

Can't decide what I want for breakfast. Im not super hungry, and my head hurts. I know if I don't eat something I will not be happy with myself around 11'ish. I try not to eat lunch till 12:45 to 1:15. But I actually feel a little nautious (sp??) , could be the headache though I guess. Maybe I NEED something to eat! UGH!

On that note, I need to go. Take care everyone. I will let you know about the kids day later tonight.

**What did you think about American Idol?? I really like the 16 year old. Im not sure what a think about Fantasia. There is just something about her I don't like. She can sing though so I guess that's all that matters. Did anyone see Simon Cowel on Ellen Degeneros yesterday?

Take care
Tammie

The Pres.......

The kids won't know who they are until 15 minutes before the President arrives. We are all crossing out fingers though.
