Help - Newbie needs help!!
Evening all
Help and support needed please - am about to start the induction plan tomorrow - have sort of planned my menus - am trying not to plan to much as get really bored if I have no surprises in store! Well suppose should do that life and weight history in 10 seconds thing! Am 28, married to Rob, live in the North of England, have 1 son who is now 3 weeks old. I'm a trained beauty therapist but am currently at home with the little man. Well the weight thing, my body seems to have forgotten to go back to normal after having my little one!! Seem to have stored weight in places I didn't even know I had, am lucky enough to suffer from Polycystic Ovaries as well so weight loss has always been slow for me. Am tipping in at 195lb or about 14 stone to us over here, I've never been skinny and quite frankly don't think that I ever will be but wouldn't mind if everything wasn't quite so wobbly!! Am an absolute bugger and have no motivation so need someone that will harrass me and make me confess to any sins, all nagging and booting up the fat backside will help no end. Write back soon - ta heaps Sonia |

Hi Sonia,
Congratulations on your new son! I have been on atkins for about 2 weeks. Doing really well and have not cheated once. They have some awesome recipes here on the boards that will make sure that you do not get bored! Make sure you clear your house out of carbs that will tempt you. Also keeping lots of snacks etc in the fridge are a good thing to. I am finding that small more frequent meals work better for me than 3 bigger ones. Just keep smiling and keep working at it. Walking with the little one will be a great form of excersise! You can definately do this and I will help anyway I can! Good Luck! Lori

Hi Lorene
Thanks for your message, well started the Atkins induction today - am have to say am not doing too bad, the real problem I am having is the drinking all the water, having been pregnant so recently and have spent the last 9 months rushing to the loo - I'm not too keen!! Its great though, I love cheese, chicken, fish and prawns so its not too bad for me, think I'll miss my veggies but think that after I get through induction it will be a little easier, so fingers very firmly crossed!! How much have you lost, over what time etc and any good tips - always willing to be nagged or advised Take care |

Hello Ladies,
I would like to join you guys as I am starting Atkins all over again as of this morning. I lost about 10 pounds when I first went on the diet. After a while I started getting heart rythm problems and stopped altogether. I think it was because I wasn't drinking enough water. I really felt bad having to stop the diet, but my hubby got really worried so I gave in. Now I am ready to give it another try as I gained all the weight back again. Had one egg with a slice of bacon and cheese for BF so far... Elke ![]() |

Hi Girls!
Well i have lost 23lbs in about 2.5 weeks times. I have been using Fitday.com to track my food amount and Carb amount. You guys should check it out, its really awesome! I went shopping at Walmart the other day to try to find anything new and different and stumbled across this "milk" called Carb countdown thats really good. I put it on the Atkins Almond Cereal and it's a nice alternative to having to cook breakfast every AM. My roommate made this meatloaf with Cheese and Spinach in it from Lowcarbluxury.com ( another good site with recipes) and it was delicious. My biggest problems thus far is working out and drinking all that water. I have been drinking it but I HATE water Uggh. What have you guys been doing as far as working out? I think its great to have friends to get through this with so I am glad to have found you all, and my other friend I met on these boards. We can do this we just have to keep our eye on our goals, and push ourselves to get through the hard spots like me with working out and water etc. Ok you guys have a great day cant wait to hear back from you!!!!! Good morning everyone,
argghh, I am a bit upset this morning as I haven't lost a single ounce yet. Can't remember this happen the last time. I was expecting at least the ".5" to vanish from the scale.Well, I guess I'll have to wait. I put everything I eat in a diet program ,so I can keep up with my carbs.I had 17g yesterday consisting of Pork tenderloin, eggs, cheese and a diet Yello plus 1/2 cup of romaine Lorene, I feel the same as you do, I hate water too and it's very hard for me to get it down. It almost makes me sick, so I tried adding a few sprinkles of Crystal Light Lemonade to it. But really only a few sprinkles to give it some taste, better than nothing. Maybe we can meet for lunch, dinner or something sometime, since you're so close. In what part of Tampa are you at? North, south etc? Elke Last edited by Elkeflorida : 02-04-2004 at 06:21 AM. |

Elke,
Don't get frustrated it will happen soon enough. I read an article that said taking 1200 mg of Calcium a day helps to curb the carb cravings, and help with weight loss. I have started doing this, I lost 23lbs so far so I am not sure if its because of the calcium or just no carbs. Just make sure that you are drinking your water uggh I hate it too. I live in St. Pete but work in Tampa at St. Joes. Dinner or lunch would be great! Just let me know! I am really craving tacos today so I am going to try just taking the hamburger and putting it in my salad and see how it is. I also found low carb tortia chips on a web site so I am going to order those and see how they are as I love the atkins chips. Just keep your head up and dont quit it will work soon enough! Lori |

God you guys are so lucky, have searched all the supermarkets here for low carb stuff and can't find anything!
Friend told me that Asda(which is the same as your Walmart) had some and I spent an hour in there looking and found nothing! Am not finding it too hard, but hate all the water too, have been drinking a glass of diet coke for every pint of water - its the only way I can do it. Have been out and walking with my buggy, not too far as I'm not allowed to do too much yet, but have lost 4 pounds in 4 days so am really pleased with my progress!! So fingers crossed - any good recepies that you guys have would be really grateful |

Good morning,
wow, did I have a bad day yesterday.......I felt sick to my stomach for the whole day straight, plus I had this lightheadedness going on. It was very hard to function and I even had to lay down for a while. No matter if I ate something or not, I couldn't get rid of the feeling. Now, my hubby comes up with this bloodsugar thing....Mine is constantly very low (in the low 90s w.out atkins) so he was thinking I was having an insulin-low that made me feel so bad. Anyone ever heard of this? Hmm, makes me wonder. I don't have much to loose (125 down to 110), maybe that's why it's going so slow, I don't know.Same thing this morning 125.5 no change. Maybe I have a slow metabolism. Lorene and Sonia, when did you start losing? After 2 days 3 or 4 ? 23 pounds seem like an awful lot in a short time, congrats.4 pounds in 4 days is also great,Sonia. sorry I can't help with any recipes but I personally like to stay away from the low carb products and do this "au naturale". My recipes are usually meat with cheese on top and a bit of fried onions, always works. Tunasalad with Mayo and chopped egg is also one of my favs.Plus Romaine salad for the veggies. have a great day........ Elke ![]() |

HI Guys,
CONGRATS ON THE 4LBS. I am a much bigger person over 300 so I will lose more faster then most. Dont worry about losing weight yet, it will come. Do you have strips to know if you are in ketosis? Im sorry that you felt bad yest. Dr. Atkins says in his book that this can happen in the first couple of days but if it persists I would contact your Dr. You can figure out if its a blood sugar thing by drinking a bit of Coke and seeing if you feel better. (I know its against the diet but its an easy diagnostic tool to know if its your sugar or not.) Sonia, You can order alot of products online here through this site or through Lowcarbluxury.com . Both site rate the products so this may be a help to you. Also there are tons of recipes on both site. I LOVE the spinach meatloaf its awesome (on lowcarb luxury.com) I am having shiskabobs tonight so I hope they will be good. Last night I used taco seasoning with Hamburger, and shredded cheese and at them with my Atkins Cruncher chips it was YUMMY!!!!!!Tomorrow is my weigh in day. I have been feeling great and doing good so I am keeping my fingers crossed that I lost more. Clothes are definately looser. Have you guys checked out fitday.com? Its really helping me out. Ok you both hang in there!!!!!!!!!! Keep me updated. I look foward to your messages! Lori |

Hello ladies just wanted to put my two cents in. I started Atkins about two years ago and dropped about 60 lbs. My father became ill about that time and I put it all back on and then some. But I've been back on it for about 2 1/2 weeks now and have dropped around 8 lbs. I just wanted to take a second and comment on of few of the things said here. First I would agree with the calcium comment. I was having a bit of a problem the first time I started the program. Then a friend suggested that I take a calcium supplement. That seemed to help suppress my appetite. This time I went right for the calcium first thing and had no problem what so ever. As far as feeling lousy the first couple of days that fits me to a tee. I had an awfull headache on day 2 and 3 both time I started. But than the cloud lifted and I started to feel better than when I wasn't doing this WOE. Also one last thing becareful of the diet sodas that are not made with splenda I've read that they can have a negative impact on blood sugar levels. Well good luck ladies hang in there.

hello everyone and good morning,
thanks for the advice @Devon and Lorene, I tried it yesterday with a piece of chocolate truffle after feeling somewhat ill again ( eyes hurting, light sensitive, sick to stomach, weak body feeling etc) I immediately felt better after a couple of minutes !!! So, here's what I changed.....I added some carbs to every meal now, little salad or something like that. I upped my carbs to about a min of 25 g a day. It seems to work well so far, I haven't experienced any discomfort again AND MOST OF ALL .....(drumbeat..) I FINALLY LOST 2 POUNDS THIS MORNING... ![]() hope everyone has a great day Elke Last edited by Elkeflorida : 02-06-2004 at 08:35 AM. |

Hi Lori,
seems your pounds are just shedding off like there's nothing to it, ha. Good for you, that's the way it should work..... I "only" lost another 0.5 pound, but that's ok, I don't mind losing slowly. As long as I steadily loose some, I'm alright. A big motivator for me was because of my upcoming Trip to go overseas. Partially business, part. private. Iget to see my parents for the first time in 4.5 years and I do want to look my best if I can. So, it made it a bit easier for me to start this. The funny thing I noticed yesterday, my appetite is almost vanished from one day to another. I literally almost forgot to eat yesterday. I know it's not good when you don't eat, so I try to take porkrinds with me now, whereever I go. Something to snack on when I'm on the road. Other than that, I finally start feeling better and I'm not worried about my health so much, I seem to do fine with the constant carb -bitsies during the day. hope you have a great weekend Elke |

Hey girls,
Elke congrats on the .5lbs!! Thats great. I know its very easy to skip eating cause you arent hungry. Just make sure you do though so your metabolism dosent slow down. Weight Watchers has frozen dinners that are low carb now. I bought two yest. Though I havent tried them yet. I am going to Outback tonight for dinner so I have my plan of meal already so that I dont eat to many carbs. I tried the mock mashed potatos yest. and they were really good. Well keep up the good work . I need some motivation to excersise so send some vibes my way. Talk to you soon. Lori |

Hi Lorene,
how are you doing? sorry I haven't checked into this thread in a while....I had terrible problems with the diet and was seeking some help/answers from the forum. well, it seems to work out now, I am no longer suffering from all these nasty sideeffects anymore. I feel terrific, I can't really describe it, but there's so much more energy in me than before. I am not losing anymore, kinda stalled, but I will hang in there and see what happens. I am now on a bit higher carbrate due to my problems. how is the exercise going (can't get my self to exercise, besides gardening) Elke ![]() |

Hey Elke.
Sorry to hear that you have been having a rough time. Today was really rough for me not sure with it being Valentines or what, but I have wanted Ice Cream and chocolate etc REALLY BAD. Maybe its just PMS. Anyway, I havent cheated though today would have been my day to do it. So I am just trying to get through it ya know. Sometimes I get so SICK of meat LOL Thats ok i will do it without cheating. I really need to get off my butt and work out more. I have to get motivated and do this! I havent cheated on eating but I have been slacking on the working out thing! So if anyone has any suggestions to help that would be great!!!! I think working nights I am just so dang tired all the time, that I am just not motivated. Well girl I hope things go better for you this week. I am sending lots of good vibes your way!!!!!!!! Lori |

Lori,
I don't think I can be of much help regarding the excercise thing....I am soo lazy ....sigh.But for the sweet cravings...have you tried the Jello sugarfrees yet? They work great for me ,when the cravings hit me.I usually put a bit of canned whipped cream on top. I get those cravings a lot and they can be powerful sometimes, I know. I do get tired of meats a bit myself, but I try to compensate it with other flavors. Like today ,I made a small porkchop with a slice of melted cheddar on top. I also found a jar of alfredo pasta sauce in the pantry and disovered it had 'only' 6 g of carbs for a 1/4 cup(much to my delight). I just made it 2 TbS to go on top ,and it was great. I know they make a cheddar cheese sauce too, I will probably go to Publix tomorrow and check the carbs on it. Just plain meat is very hard to eat sometimes Even though I'm not into the LC products, I've treated myself to a bottle of no-carb BBQsauce(also Publix). The stuff is awsome and gives your meals a different twist. Can't imagine what they would do for wings or ribs, instead of having them just 'plain'! Maybe you should try it. LOL Thats what I get for my variety. Plus I dont think I have lost anymore. OH well Im gonna stick to it if it kills me LOL and somedays I think it might! Hope all is well with you! Lori ![]() |

Hi Lori,
after jumping up and down between 124,123,122, the scale finally gave me a 120 today. ahhh what a surprise! anyway, I don't trust it unless it stays like that for a few days straight. I never get behind, why my weight keeps going up and down ,while I'm eating less and less. The good thing is, my appetite has become so much smaller than before. I'm hardly ever hungry anymore, except for the evening, that's when the sweet cravings hit me as well . So I went and bought myself some Russel Stover LC choco-crunchies or whatever they called. OMG ,they are very addictive....can't eat just one. I know I should never bought them, lol. hang in there Lori, you'll get over the tough times........... Elke |

Hi Lori,
how have you been lately...... I have a pretty bad headache today and it's very hard to concentrate on my work now. The advil doesn't seem to do a thing for me,lol. I haven't weighed myself in two days now, since I have TOM visiting, so I am going back on the scale when this is over. I don't want to frustrate myself with a huge water weight gain. I am getting so tired of the weather, I really wanted to at least have a bit of color on my face and shoulders to impress my folks when I get ready to travel. It doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon.....darn. I also wanted to get back into gardening, which I love doing, but i hate freezing, so I have to wait it all out. i guess tomorrow will be a better day. Elke |
