39andholding245lbsandlosingmomlookingforsupport!
Hi there... I'm 39 years 'and holding' am 245lbs and stand 6' tall (yes, I thank God for my height often
) Anyhow... here I sit, typing my thoughts to 'anyone who's taking the time to read them' with hopes of hooking up with 'people in the same boat'. I was never overweight as a child... went through my teens eating 'whatever' , led a reasonably active life throughout. My extra body fat started to 'attach itself to thyself' with my first pregnancy. I'd reached an all time high back then (1990) of 215lbs. I lost 50lbs doing Nutri System (does it still exist? Not in Canada) Second pregnancy... I started out at 205. Third pregnancy... started out at 215. Pregnancies aside... I climbed even higher to 245lbs. I managed to lose 47lbs on my own with exercise and counting fat/calories. Then I hurt my back and was out of commission for a few years!!! Needless to say... my weight climbed right back up there. 247 lbs to be exact. I tried Weight Watchers... lost 15lbs in 8 weeks but then started doing that 'yo yo thingy' and it really started to mess with my head!!! (never mind the body) Desperate times call for desperate measures...September of 2002... I went to a diet clinic (Dr. Bernstein here in Canada) it was 'very expensive' but worked in taking the weight off. I went from 256 (yup...had climbed even higherrrrrrr) to 192lbs in 3 months. I went to the clinic 3x's a week and had vitamin B injections and was weighed. Had to be accountable. I ended my 'starvation' journey in December... thinking "I'll switch over to the weight watchers plan after the holidays" Well... that day never came. I've been following the Atkins program for 3 weeks come Monday. My starting weight was 258lbs. I know that I'm a carbohydrate addict... you should have seen me the first 3 days!!! I can't believe how much more energy I have today... how the 'fog has lifted' and... how exciting it is to be enroute to a healthier me. I won't ever go the 'starvation route' again... I was losing clumps of hair... literally! I enjoy the foods offered on the program...and amazingly enough, haven't been missing my breads, rice, pasta or potatoes. I need to start journaling though... I did for the first few days on induction, then thought " I know it's two cups salad, one cup veggies, etc.," why bother. Now, although the weight is coming off, and I'm feeling terrific, I want to limit myself to say 14 oz of protein per day... I think I'm eating too much red meat as well, so I need to cut back to say twice a week red meat and the rest of the week, seafood/chicken. They had something on our news recently about the 'Atkins diet' and suggested cutting back on the more 'fatty foods'. So... that's my story. I'd like to reach 'someone' or 'others' for much needed support and motivation. I hope that someone is 'you'! Talk to you 'lighter' Lyn |
