Help with Atkins!
Okay I really need HELP! I am new to the Atkins diet as well as new to the message board thing here. So if I sound dum don't laugh at me. I will start Akins on January 25, 2003, me and my sister. I have would like to lose 20 pounds, however my sister has to lose 150 pounds. Well anyway! I have a little problem, I start my day a 4:30 a.m. every day and I get home late a round 6:00 p.m.
I would like to know do I have to eat 5 times a day? OR Can I just eat 2 or 3 times a day? I am not much of a breakfast person, but on Saturdays and Sundays. Do we count calories, sugar, and fat to? I have read the book and I have the cook book to, I just don't know I am doing it right. I have three other people that I have to cook for, do I have to cook 2 meals. My daughter and my mother do not need to lose any pounds. If I do cook one meal will that make them lose pound to? Please help, the peolpe here seem so nice.

Good Luck!
I would suggest your take some time this weekend to read the first 11 chapters of Atkins New Diet Revolution. Knowledge is power and understanding how the program works will give you the tools you need to succeed. Many start this WOE not knowing exactly what the rules of Induction are, thus, setting themselves up to fail and abandoning the plan. You have a busy schedule but there is no reason why you cannot succeed.
Some helpful hints: Read the book - First 11 Chapters Prep and plan the next two weeks Clear the decks of tempting carbs and replace with Atkins friendly items Drink lots of water. Half your body weight. Getting up and out early isn't going to detour you. Bring boiled eggs, cheese. Have them when you start to get hungry in the morning. Pack your lunch. A salad and protein topping. Careful of salad dressings. Hidden sugar. Low Fat does not mean Low Carb. I buy Maria's Blue Cheese Dressing. 0 carbs and 0 sugar. Dinner, a protein and Atkins friendly veggies. You don't have to make two different meals. My family ate what I prepared, I simply added a side dish for them so it worked out well! Sugarfree Jello hits the sweet spot. First three days may be alittle rough. Your body is purging sugar so drink lots of water. By day 4, your energy should be up, cravings for carbs should subside. Mind over matter. Just try to keep the mindset and never let yourself get into a situation where you cannot eat the planned meals. I found these things aided me in my success. Hardest thing for me, giving up the Diet Pepsi but I did! Best of luck! Keep us posted.

Update
It is Friday, January 30, 2004. I have not been doing well. On Wednesday, 1/28/04 my sister had a massive heart attack. (this is my sister that had started thhe atkins with me) So I have not been eating the right way and in the hospital don't have must good food to eat. I been eating only ones a day up until today. My sister is doing well now. I will be back on track by this weekend, I hope! If not I will be on track on Monday, 2/2/04.
I think I may have lose some inches because I put on some jeans that I could not button all the way up. Now I can. So I hope I well get back on track and this time stay no matter what! |

New to Atkins, too
First, I want to wish you the best success with Atkins. If you have any questions about Atkins, it is very easy to ask them. I know this because I've e-mailed them with several questions asking them to be very specific about the Induction phase and its allowable foods. They answer promptly and thoroughly. Also, they have a phone number you can easily call and get ahold of someone that will give you even more of a personal touch to get answers to your questions. I've called them with great success, too. From their main page (or any page, actually) click on "contact us" for options I've listed along with other choices. Blessings to your sister and may she recover nicely.

Thank Everyone
I would like to thank those that was helpful to me. I will no longer be coming to this site. My sister has passed away and I just don't care anymore. Maybe I will come back to this site to see how things are going but right now I have no need to say on this. I have lost about 10 pounds.
God Bless You All & Stay on Track |

Hearts to out to you Vic
Vic,
So sorry for your loss. losing someone as dear as a sister is so very hard. I have suffered through great loss as well. With each day, emotions come and go. First grief, then anger, then acceptance. Embrace each phase as you continue down the road of healing. It has been 14 years since my mother passed and it still seems like yesterday. The pain will always be there but it does get easier. Cry hard. Laugh at memories. Keep her deep in your heart. Take care of you. Hugs Susan |
