WOE: 50-100 carbs/day/exercise
Start Date: 1/3/04
WANTED MODERATE CARB PEN PAL

I have been on atkins moderate carbs 50-100 per day for about a week. I am also starting to exercise but I am not exclusively relying on a low carb diet. I am also doing the diet patch, herbs and drinking natural vegetable juice as much as I can tolerate and I try to allow myself a high carb treat on Sunday to prevent workweek sugar binges. I just tell myself to wait till Sunday. I just want to get the weight off. I have a spare tire section and my breasts are 44D and I am about 5'10. With all the weight I have found my posture isn't the best. I just turned 40 in September and was about my ideal weight 130-140 in my twenties. Now here I am twenty years later after the end of a bad marriage trying to get back to what I was twenty years ago. Of course even if I lose the weight which is my goal I will have to try to heal myself from the scars of obesity-scretch marks, increased viens/spider viens etc. Is there anyone out there that has completed their goal weight and has sought out and received sucessful cosmetic treatments/improvements for those scars of obesity. I have heard about mederma, lazers, creams. Anyone that can tell me firsthand about what worked for them. In the meantime what I can change I am attempting to do, not in order to get back into the arena of dating or to impress anyone but for just me this time. I am worried about my health being 100 pounds overweight. Last I weighed I was over 230. My goal is to lose 50 pounds by summer so that I can start being able to look presentable in a one-piece or a high rising two piece. I have to admit that I do have to lose weight for work. I am the biggest girl here and everyone else is pretty close to their ideal weight. It is kind of interesting to observe how people respond to you about being overweight. Like what is her problem. Like I have no will power at all and how did I get to be such a cow. What else ? Emotional eating and a poor diet and decreased excercise. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, not to mention a bad marriage. Anyways, I would really like to talk to people who are going through what I am going through or whatever you are going through and maybe we can provide some humor and inspiration to each other. I have one atkins addiction thus far and that is the bryers ice cream with splendra of course that only has a couple of carbs per 1/2 cup?. I was all excited about splendra only to find websites that says it has hurt some rats inflamming their thryroids and other not fun things. Does anyone know any credible findings regarding sugar substitutes? Is it just a bunch of hype or is it something to consider as I go along the atkins path. I also wonder if these sugar substitutes can be bad for your teeth like regular sugar is? Any dentists or dental techs out there with these kind of info? Well, as you can see I can chat and as you will find out, I can listen too. Have a great day and if you made it this far and you are still awake drop me a line alphalibrae@excite.com

Hey Gray!

I think I know where you are at! I've had some simular experiences in my past with a rotten marriage and I have the spider and varicose vein problems. I don't know about surgery........ but losing the weight has sure helped with them, and some walking........ I'm on me feet all day at work..... mod walking, lots of standing..... but when I excersize regularly on my treadmill (mornings) and stay true on my water intake to keep from retaining water..... the veins receed. I have another 18 to 20 pounds I want to lose....... and I just started back on doing my exercising ( *ashamed* I stopped two months ago!) I love splenda..... have relied on it..... great stuff! I've never heard of any ill effects..... other then a very few people having a lingering aftertaste in their mouths that wouldn't go away for hours....... but then they seem to have that problem with all of the alternative sweeteners and usely avoid sweet altogether. TOOOO BAd! Hope that you don't already have loads of penpals..... please reply back on the forum here if you would like to be my pen pal....... hope to hear from you soon! JadeK
