Fabulous 40's 12/29/03
Okay ladies, I started a new thread. I went back to work today
I would have rather stayed home! I had about 6 hours worth of fix it stuff that got done wrong while I was away. But, I did get things straightened out finally.Rita - I be fine woman and sorry to hear about your gain but, we knew we would be paying a price for the bad habits we have. Don't beat yourself up, your are back on track now and that is what counts. Did I see you say that you would have to start eating veggies? I could hardly believe my eyes! Actaully I wish I could like them enough to do it but I just can't get there . You go for it girlfriend.Diane - I just loved the pictures of the kids and the tree skirts. My, my, you are a talented woman My only talent is getting up on time for work...lol I sure do wish I had your willpower to stick to plan, I am counting on you and Rita to keep me straight. My biggest problem is when we go out to eat I have trouble saying NO but, I must learn. Enjoy your last week off work. I know I wish I had another just so I could relax since my Patrick kept me from doing that. By the way, I know Tami works at one of the Wal-Marts, I just can't remember which one, Her hubby is a manager at it I know that much and his name is Mike Hodge. I wish I could be of more help.Arlene - I am so proud of you sticking to your guns...you go girl! Just remember, every day you stick to plan is another day closer to where you want to be. I have to tell myself the same thing. Just hang in there. Like the other ladies, I would love to hear more about you. Tami - If you or your hubby are out there, please check in. Well, it's past my bedtime and I certainly have rambled on...Have a nice evening ladies, I look forward to hearing from you tomorrow. (((((((BIG HUGS)))))))

Depressed, dispondent, discouraged
i am so down, day 7 with no loss and I'm still on my first two weeks of induction. I don't know what I am doing wrong, what I did right the first 6 days, or why it worked at the beginning but isn't working now. I know I am in the category of slow metabolism because I have hypothyroid and take synthroid, but I was hoping the woe would help me where low-fat failed. I'm not sure if I should be weighing and measuring all my food or I should fast or just stop eating for a few days altogether.
Has anyone hit a stall this early on? If so what did you do and if you did something drastic, did you have to continue it to keep losing? I left my book in my sister's car Sunday so I can't even look at the book for suggestions til I get it from her on Thursday. Help!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as at the moment I feel as low as I can go. Arlene

Hello Ladies......
Arlene - Honey, just relax! You are going to be just fine, everybody stalls then suddenly the whoosh fairy will pay you a visit
. It's different for eveybody because everybody's got a different makeup. Just stick to your guns and don't be so hard on yourself! Drink lots and lots of water . If you need tips there are several places to go on this board alone that can help you. Just remember, you are not alone. We are all here to help and encourage each other. Considering that you lost 12 lbs in just the first week I wouldn't be to concerned about nothing else at this point...be patient sweetie it will come off I was told once "you didn't put it on over night so you can't expect to lose it over night" Words oh so true. You will not lose 12 lbs every week, I was down to losing a pound a week and decided it was better than nothing or gaining. Please don't be sad Keep following the plan and you will see results. Rita - How's it going my dear sister veggie hater..have you converted on me?...lol I am doing ok still not on plan yet, I am actually eating the things I won't be able to and I am actually getting sick of it That's one way not to miss the old nasty carbs... Thank you so much for the card...that was beautiful! I printed it out so I could read it when I feel down. You are so thoughtful! I am actually looking forward to the first...I haven't even had eggs for a long time so I will enjoy them even more... Diane - How are you today...are you keeping warm? It's in the mid 70's here I really wish it were a little cooler. I never get to wear my jacket I found out yesterday that my racquetball partner will only get to play once a week I was really counting on the playing to help boost the loss, oh well. I guess I have to do it on my own. I go for a stress test on the 8th, I am wondering if my heart can take the stress. I just get so winded so fast. The good thing about the ball playing is I set the pace...lol Well, I hope you are doing well and that you are enjoying your final days off. Well, ladies I suppose I have made your eyes cross by now reading my ramblings. I wish you all a wonderful lowcarb day. You are in my thoughts and in my prayers. Arlene, you just hang in there, everything will be fine. ![]() |

Keep on keepin on
KK,
Thanks sis, I did go to one of the newbie pages and read about fat fasting, but decided I wasn't quite ready to go that route yet. So...I have decided to cut my food portions down, not too low as I know starving will make me even more miserable and is an ultimate fast lane to a binge for me. I haven't been weighing and measuring my portions, so as of today I'll begin measuring my food and drinking more water if I feel hungry. Last night I noticed that during a craving I drank a large glass of water instead of looking for a peice of cheese or something to curb my appetite and I did feel much better for almost an hour. I was very surprised to see the scale drop so quickly during my first days of induction, because on LF diets I usually lose 1/2 to 1 lb per week. Having such fast weight loss on LC was a real high that was unexpected, especially since I wasn't hungry, had little to no cravings and wasn't obsessed with weighing and measuring out my food. I'm having to adjust now, and I don't like it...LOL I wanted it to be easy!! But life never is and I am feeling better (after a few days of low energy and the blahs from sugar withdrawal). I have to remember that I initially started this because I was feeling so bad physically and that has gone away. My ankles aren't swollen by noon every day as they were before I started and I don't feel out of breath just by walking to the mailbox at the end of my driveway. One day at a time.....and of course Never Give Up!! Hugz to you all Arlene |

Happy New Year girls! Just had to pop in and say Hi!! I have been baking a few low carb sweets to help us stay on track. I am also deep frying wings to snack on. I really want to get to goal by our Anniversary. DD just e-mailed to tell us about her little "beautician"...Ariel cut a 3-4" chunk out of her bangs last night, right in the middle!! I'm glad she didn't use her new skills on her sisters...lol My daughter laughed because she did it as a child and recalls me telling the story many times. Oh the fun is just beginning DD....***evil laugh*** Well I didn't want the day to pass without saying Hi...No luck tracking down Tami yet, I'll keep trying. Hope you all have a safe and Happy New Years Eve! I'll "talk" to you next year....

Happy New Year
Well ladies, this is it. I got up this morning and fixed myself some scrambled eggs & sausage and I have a steak out for dinner. I'm not sure what I wil have for lunch, maybe some wings. Anyhow, I am ready and looking forward to feeling good again. I am going to measure myself later today so I will have something to work with when the scale stops on me. I really want to stay motivated. I am actually excited about it. I just hope I can stay strong and not cheat at all. Something I was wondering
is sugar free jello ok on induction? I have to admit, the first two weeks are tough, but I really want to do this right. I hope everyone had a nice day yesterday and are ready for the new year.Diane - Sounds like you are ready, frying up wings sounds yummy. How do you do yours exactly? Do you put anything on them? I had to laugh about your granddaughter, I have done that myself...lol Have a wonderful day. Rita - I hope you too had a nice evening and are ready to go fullforce with me on the plan. I look forward to hearing from you real soon. Arlene - Where are you? I hope you will be checking in soon. Hang in there I know you can do it! Well, I just wanted to stop in and say hi and share my excitement for the start of a new year and I hope a new me. Take care ladies and stop in when you can. Meanwhile have a great lowcarb day!! ![]() |

KK, I'm here ! I had a slow and easy day yesterday and just stayed in my craft/sewing room looking at projects and getting organised for the coming year. Sorry I didn't post
Happy New Year---2004! I spent the evening with my DH and parents and my visiting l'il sis and her family. Mom made lot's of snacks and for me she made sure to add snacks that were legal, so what did I do? Pigged out on legal snacks of course! Plus I had two glasses of champagne. I think I'll skip the beast today and just be really on plan today and weigh tomorrow. I spoke to all my kids at midnight, they were with their SO's celebrating and all made it home safely. My dd didn't go out as she and her fiance were celebrating their 5 year anniversary (first date) she'll be 23 on her birthday in Feb. My middle ds was at his gf's house and planned on sleeping on the couch since he didn't get off work til 11 so her mom made them a little celebration meal and they stayed at home with them. (relief) He was 20 in December. My youngest ds went to a friends house with his gf and had a cab come to take her home at 2 am, then he spent the night there. He called me this morning to let me know he did not drive anywhere as he promised and he'd meet me at my mom's at 2 pm for our annual family new years dinner. (he was 18 in August) Last year my DH and I spent New years searching for him cuz his dad allowed him to have the car and didn't ask him to call at midnight and I found out that he was out driving around under the influence, so at midnight last year I was frantic! So to me, the mother of three young adults, not having to worry where my children were was one of the best NY gifts I could have. So now it's back in the saddle for my WOL and eating right! I want to start exercizing tomorrow...am steeled against putting it off any longer....resolved...GRRRRRRRRRR! Have a Happy Day KK, Rita, Diane...Tami where ever you are! 44 Years Young 5'8 292/279.5/165 |

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Hi ladies!!!
I have been sooo busy lately with DH and my kids home on Christmas vacation. I planned on writing this long post to you all, but DH just informed me that I need to make another "paint run!" See, we are in the process of painting our living room and downstairs bathroom. Lots of work and lots of paint! LOL I promise I will write more either tomorrow or Monday for sure. I will welcome the quiet house on Monday when they all go back to work and school! I haven't had the chance to read all the posts that I've missed, but will. I hope you all are doing well. I have been doing good on induction. I've already lost 2 lbs. since last Monday, so I'm happy. Talk to you all soon! Hugs to you all! Rita ![]() |

Finally!
Hi girls!
I finally got that Whoosh! I've been waiting for. I worked harder over the weekend to pare down my portions and did not touch anything that wasn't allowed on induction, no matter how small. This morning the scale read 277!! That's a 3 lb drop during the weekend. Today is the day I HAVE to find a job, so I need to get cracking...reply to those help wanted ads and find employment! Wish me luck....hope everyone has a fantasmagorical day...stay focused....! Hugz Arlene 44 yrs young 5'8 292/277/165 |

Happy Monday
Hi to all my "fabulous 40's" friends! Well, all is going well with induction. I'm down 2 lbs. Yippeee! It could be more, but I woke up with TOM yesterday. Arrgg! LOL The joys of being a woman! NOT! I can't wait for TOM's to be the thing of the past! LOL
I hope everyone is doing well on their inductions. I'm sure you all are. Karen- how is my sister veggie hater doing? Good I hope. No, I haven't turned into a "veggie lover" yet! LOL And doubt that I ever will. I'm just going to try and eat more of the veggies I love. Diane- I know your back on track and doing well too. Am I right? We all CAN do this!! It's a new year and a new frame of mind for all of us!! Arlene- Congrats on your WHOOSH! You're doing terrific!!! Well girls, let us all watch our carbs, drink LOTS of water, exercise and together we will watch each other lose the weight we want in 2004!!!! We got our living room and bathroom all painted over the weekend. I love them! We chose bright blue in the living room with one accent wall in lime/yellow and in the bathroom it is a bright orange! You need sunglasses in my house now! LOL It's so nice not to have plain white walls anymore! I'm already thinking of colors I want in the rest of the house...hmmm, now if I can find the money! LOL Life is good! Hope to hear from all of you soon! Hugs to you all, Rita ![]() |

Well Hello Ladies..........
So...I see everyone is doing well! I too am staying true to plan, so far since last Thursday (1/1/04) I have dropped 4 pounds. I went up to 239.5 before getting myself back on induction
. I am even in the fat burning mode. I have been using the keto sticks and they aren't purple but they are darn close . I will be glad when induction is over so I can have the occasional lowcarb bread (only 4 carbs per slice & yummy) with my burgers or grilled cheese sandwiches. I finally canned some salsa and it killed me not to be able and eat some . I am also keeping a food diary this way I can see where my problems are should I stall out. I am proud of myself so far, I have been tempted by the bad foods several times and I just said NO! I really want to make it this time. I go for a nuclear stress test this Thursday not really looking forward to that. I haven't walked in so long I know I will fail miserably at that part of it. Oh well, I suppose I have to start some where...lolArlene - Congrats on the whoosh fairy visit...I told you it would happen. See, if you gave in you wouldn't have been able to see the hard work you have accomplished. Keep it up, you are doing great! Rita - Your house sounds very interesting, I love color! About the veggie thing, I thought the only veggies you liked were the kinds we can't have...did I miss something? I am proud of you staying on plan, like you said we can and WILL do this!Diane - Well, woman are you ready for work yet? I bet you would much rather stay home, I know I would. I hope you are doing well and that you are all healed up from your surgery.Well ladies, I wish you all great success and a wonderful lowcarb day. If you have any recipe ideas please post them. By the way, is tomato sauce ok on induction? I would like to put it in my meatloaf but not sure if its ok I anxiously await your replys...have a great day! |

Good morning ladies! It is Tuesday and all is well!
Still waiting for it to warm up here. I need to go for my walk, but it's freezing out there! LOLKK- A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you girlfriend!!!! You are doing terrific! I am Soooo proud of you!!!! Doesn't it feel great to be on track and that your doing something good for yourself? Keep up the great work!!! As for the veggies I like that are allowed on induction, I do like lettuce, peppers, celery and green beans. I don't LOVE them, but I will eat them. LOL I looked up in the book and don't see tomatoes as a veggie allowed on induction, so I don't think tomato sauce would be allowed. I guess tomatoes are higher in carbs than the other ones allowed, plus most tomato sauces have sugar. Hang in there girl, 2 weeks of induction won't last too long!Diane- How are you? I hope the surgery finally took care of your pain. When do you go back to work? I bet you will miss your quiet time huh? How are you doing on induction? Post when you can.Arlene- How's the induction going for you? I bet your doing great! Keep it up! Let us all have the strength to get us through the induction, and on to the OWL phase. Drink our water, exercise and support and encourage each other. Hugs to you all! Have a great day! Rita |

Hi ladies!!
I haven't exactly remained on induction the past two days, but I am within reasonable limits and still only eating induction foods. I have eaten a bit more veggies than is allowed, but I am craving green right now. I even ate brussel sprouts for dinner tonight, a veggie I usually don't touch becos it tastes "too green" most of the time for me. I just need a bit of variety. The "beast" appears to have dropped an aditional lb this morning, but I'm not claiming it yet until I'm absolutely positive it wasn't just the way I was standing on the scale or what. I have been in serious mode looking for a job since yesterday morning, re-writing my resume, e-mailing and snail mailing and faxing it off like mad. If anyone knows of a job here in Memphis Tn, gimme a holler, I need a job desperately. Rita, I know you are one of the veggie haters, but I myself couldn't live without them. Even when not dieting I get salad withdrawal if I don't eat something fresh and green at least every other day. I sympathize with those of you who dislike the greens, they make me feel so much better when I eat them in healthy format. (ie: as in not fried) KK, so glad you are back on the horse with us. The first 4 days are the toughest as you well know, so tomorrow should be better than the day before, etc. I felt the need to at least cover up some of the taste of the sprouts tonight and made a roux with 2 T of atkins bake mix, butter and 1/8 cup of cream, then added 1/4 shredded cheddar. I even fed it to my DH, who didn't complain although I told him what it was. He likes creamy sauces even more than I do and has been going without since I began this woe. He didn't rave on it's taste, but said it was ok. Well all, I need to get out of this room, it is the coldest in the house and with the temperature drop yesterday, this room is verifiably freezing! Hi girls! I went back to work Monday, so I haven't had time to post. It's hard to get back into a routine! I'm having a little trouble with pain from wearing a skirt my first day back. I guess it's just dresses or elastic waist skirts for awhile. I wore a dress yesterday, but was in such pain by the time I got home last night (I felt very bruised, no doubt from the waist band from the skirt the day before)....Oh well, atleast it isn't a hernia
I'm eating good and my scale is finally starting to move. I am down 4 lbs since the 26th....very slow, but atleast it's starting to give. Maybe now it will speed up (I'm more motivated than ever now!) Sounds like everyone is doing well. I will try to post more later, I have to get ready for work already! |

Hi ladies! I am still on track, but feeling bloated.(TOM)
so I haven't dared getting on the scale until it is all over. It seems that my TOM gets longer and harder every month lately. I wonder if eating low carb has anything to do with it? Hmmmm I've been running around all morning and am glad to get a chance to sit down! I got my haircut this morning, and being a retired hairstylist I tend to be "picky" LOL (in my mind anyways, I won't say anything out loud) Anyways, this woman cutting my hair didn't have a clue to what she was doing!! I get a razor cut so it will lay nicer, she "said" she knew how, but she didn't! LOL My hair is MUCH shorter than I wanted it. Oh well, at least my hair grows fast! Arlene- Your doing great!!! So glad you like your greens! I do enjoy lettuce, but get sick of it easily. so I tend not to eat as many veggies as I should. Keep up the good work and I hope you find a job real soon!Diane- So happy you got a chance to post! I bet it is hectic getting back to work. I bet everyone there missed you!!! So sorry to hear your in pain still from the incision. Hopefully that will go away soon! That's terrific that you are back on track! Hey, 4 lbs. is great! Slow is good sometimes! I'm just happy to see 2 lbs gone! LOL Keep up the good work! KK- Where are you??? We miss you!!!!!!!! I suppose your busy at work huh? Hope all is well and your doing ok on induction. Post when you can. Have a great day all! Hugs, Rita ![]() |

Hi All! Well I am claiming that extra lb as it is still showing 276 this morning, so now I can claim 16 lbs lost in 3 weeks as of today. I also decided it was time to make a solid goal. I reached one yesterday by wearing a pair of jeans that were too tight for comfort when I began, they zipped up with no effort yesterday! My measurements have shown loss as well. 1 inch from the waist, 1 from the bust and 1 from the hip. I haven't done a total measurement check, but I did do an 8 point measurement the first week into LC. I figure I'll check my measurement loss on my monthly atkinsversaries to get a better view of how I am doing. I am soooo tired tonight so this'll have to be short. Diane I must have joined this thread after you had surgery becos I don't know what kind of surgery you had. I need to have my toe worked on coz just wearing shoes hurts, so I can imagine if a waistband is hurting you must have some kind of incision! I hope it feels better soon. With being down after being operated on I would think 4 lbs in 2 weeks is an amazing feat. Keep up the good eating girl! Rita I am struggling thru a "I want my hair cut" right now, but I also want it long enuff to wear in a ponytail by summer, so I'm resisting. I don't cut hair, but I DO know what a razor cut is. My hair is too fine to have one, though I have gotten it layered to look like it's fuller, which I thought at one time was an oxymoron. I have one more week til TOM, so I need to make the best of it. Beleive it or not I started LCing the 2nd day of TOM's visit last month....LOL Ya'll have a wonderful night...sleep well and sweetly ladies. OMG IT"S COLD HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's 10 below zero here, with the wind chill it's 30 below zero right now!!!!!!!!!! How I HATE winter! They are predicting 20 below tonight without the wind. I was thinking if KK is 80 degrees down there I am 110 degrees colder up here with the wind.... Ok, done with my rant...lol
Arlene, I had hernia surgery, my 3rd. in 2 years. I like to think it's because I'm just a delicate little thing, lol. The good thing about them putting screen in there is I have abs of "steel"...lol Rita, I just got my hair cut too. I won that hair gift certificate so went to someone different and I love what she did! She gave me the haircut I've wanted for awhile. She razor cut places on my hair and it was perfect. I would love to go back to her, but I will show my regular girl what she did first, so she has a chance to do it for me, if not I may switch. KK, I went back to work on Monday this week...each day I wonder why...lol All of these year end reports, etc....ugh! Also been very busy with customers (which I love). Hope everyone is stayong on plan....I think it's so much easier after the holidays. I'm working on my June 30th goal.... Unless I freeze to death, I'll post more later....hugs to all! |
