Hi from Toronto:)

Hi Shelly,
My name is Leah and I live in Toronto.
I've only been doing this for 1 week now.. My husband and I are doing it together. He's down 9lbs and I'm down 7lbs. I'm having a really hard day today. All I can think about is chocolate!!!!.. AND I've eaten a couple of sugar free chocolates. I could easily down the whole box! Why we brought them into this house I'll never know!!.. I told my husband to take them to work with him tomorrow. Hopefully, out of sight will be out of mind. It's my big weekness.
So how have you been doing? If you like you can email me.. lukkybuns@hotmail.com

Hi ladies!
I'm from St. Catharines and I've been doing this for about 11 months. I've lost sixty pounds and would be happy to help, if I can.
It's the easiest diet that I've ever been on, but don't look at it as a "diet", it is a new way of eating, a new way of life. In order to maintain your weight loss, you'll need to follow the Atkins principals to some degree.

Good luck ladies!

Catharine

hi:)

Hi Catharine from St. Catherines..(not sure of the spelling on either one there)) wow, 11 months!!.. how much weight have you lost?? I agree it's been pretty easy so far, except for my incredible urge for chocolate..does that EVER go away!!! I'm just a baby in the atkins world.. there is so much to learn!!... Since you've been at it for 11 months, I guess you are a good one to ask... I keep running into people saying how 'dangerous' this is.. so then I start getting a bit worried about high cholesterol etc..and then I do the stupid thing of searching online for info...ahhhhh...it's like two totally opposite viewpoints..So obiously you lose weight, but do you risk your health in the process?? I guess that's the question.. are you feeling fine and no side effects?? Have you been checked by a doctor for cholesterol and other stuff that's suppose to be bad.. (I forget right now)..Or better yet, do you know a place where I can read about this...people who have been to doctors and all the tests are great..that kind of thing??.. OH I just realized I'm writing a book here..I better sign off) I hope I didn't bombared you with question)
Thanks for any help.. I'm just in the excited-yet-apprehensive stage)

My chollesterol (sp!) is down, as is my butt size. My spirits are up! this has been a good year for me because my back feels better, my varicose veins are much better! It's all been good!

Chocolate is available made with malitol, however, malitol does cause stomach upset if you eat the whole bar. Do NOT eat chocolate while on induction. Induction is the toughest part of the diet, but you will lose the most while on it. From time to time, OWL people will go back on induction to kick start a stalled period of littler or no weight loss.

The "nay" sayers of this diet have not done their research, they are misinformed and do not be swayed by them. There is mounting evidence that this is the best way to fight insulin resistance, and turn your metabolism around.

I have had "rollercoaster" weight my whole life. I now firmly believe that I have a shot at controlling my weight forever. I've been a size 18, and I've been a size 8. I liked 8 better.

Best thing for you to do right now is arm yourself with knowledge. Have you read Dr. Atkin's book?

Bye for now,
Catharine

Hi Leah, I hope your day ws better than yesterday!

I did much better today with having the jello light with cool whip light...it is awesome...and it feels like you are really cheating...but you are not! hehehe

It is great to find someone so close...and to understand what you are going thry. I totally do...I also feel like there is someone that is just like me going thru the same trials and tribulations that I am going thru...

Remember not to think you have to compete with anyone...your weight loss is your own and it is very individual...

I always had a diet buddy and always felt terrible about my failures and even worse when they did better than me...but now I have conditioned my mind to think otherwise.

In here you will find that we celebrate everyones achievements and help when they need help...no one has gone thru this program will tell you that there was never a time when they needed to talk about the Bad Days...we all have them, and we keep going...cuz we are able to see the results almost immediately...You will lose the weight... and you will love the new you...

Keep that in mind...this is for you and for your health...and for your future...

Shelly

Hate to be the bearer of bad news -- but Jello lite is a no no right now. Aspertame will slow down, or maybe stop your losses. The only sweetener that is "Atkins Approved" is Splenda, and that too must be in controlled amounts. Diet Crush is made with Splenda, and Splenda in packets for your purse, or loose for use at home, is available at the larger grocery stores. Please avoid aspertame if you can, at least during induction anyway.

I'm at the point where I can allow a can of diet Coke ( with rye) now and then. But mostly I'll have a vodka and soda, or diet orange Crush with Vodka for a treat.

I hope I haven't wrecked your day too badly Shelly. --Oh and never mind looking for "lite" products, as most of those mean low fat. Fat is not the issue on Atkins, carbs and sugar are. Go ahead and have 18% cream in your decaf coffee, but don't drink skim milk. Go figure. You have to look at food totally differently then we've been thinking our whole lives.

How much do you ladies intend to loose?

Later,
Catharine

Thanks Catharine:

I was looking at the Atkins book and it gave a sample menu for Induction and it did have Geletin with whipped cream on the menu.

But, ofcourse that should explain why I have stalled as far as ketosis is concerned...

I will be starting Induction tomorrow again...so this is the last of the jello for a while...

OOpps, to think I thought I was doing okay...

Anyway, no need to get upset about it...tomorrow is another day...will shape things up...

Thanks for the tip...if there is anything else I should know, please feel free to let me know...

chocolates (again)

Ok I know, I know,, we aren't supposed to have chocolate!! But I have a question..I've been reading about the aspartame thing, and it says one sweetener that IS acceptable is Maltitol. Welllll, I just happened to find a box of sugar free chocolates in my fridge.. (don't how THEY got there)and I thought for sure it was going to say aspartem in the ingredients but it's not, it's maltitol.. so... I know these aren't good on induction, but would they be a safe treat afterward?? They are about 5g of carb per chocolate so you couldn't pig out..but they are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good..it's hard to believe they aren't the real thing!..Also, what about these low carb sweets that you can make.. eg...peppermint patties.. Could we not slip one of those in here and there? The carb count is supposed to be really low. (I forget now)..they're made with cream cheese and mint extract, dipped in unsweetened chocolate/splenda mixture.. I guess what I mean is, is it ok to have these treats as long as you stick under the 20g/day?? Also, my husband is getting really bored with the menu but plans to continue on induction for a few months anyway.. any suggestions how to relieve the boredom.. I guess we just aren't very creative in kitchen))

Hi Ladies!
Malitol is O.K. if you are not on induction, it might however, cause stomach upset. There is a really good macaroon recipe on the "Rocky's Friends Recipes" thread--check it out.

Good job on the losses to date Ladies!!

Nothing tastes as good as it feels to be thin.
