SACRAMENTO NEWS!

Who has the comprehensive Sacto email list?

Raley's/Bel Air are having Low-Carb Holiday Cooking demonstrations here!
11/13 11 am in Sacramento (North Natomas & Del Paso)
11/18 1 pm in Brentwood (Sand Creek & Hwy. 4 bypass)
11/19 1 pm in Galt (Twin Cities & 99)
11/20 1 pm in Roseville (Douglas & Rocky Ridge)
11/21 1 pm in El Dorado Hills (Park & El Dorado Hills)

Also, my Bel Air (Sunrise & Cirby, Roseville) has a new rack up front with Atkins bagels and bread. And Atkins ice cream in convenient 1/2 cup servings! (in the freezer case, obviously not up front with the bread!)

thanks for the info...
and this brings up a great way for us to help each other.

as we all check in, let's post where we find our favorite LC foods.
not only will this help each other,
but it will also encourage the retailers who supply LC foods.

also...is anyone interested in getting together sometime
over the holiday's ?

I would be interested in meeting others in Sacto here... as for where I find my LC stuff

Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Albertson's on Fair Oaks

I've been to LC Connection, but I just don't want to spend that much $$

I bought the rye bread and raisin bagels, but they are pricey at $ 4.99 ea. They are yummy, though, so if I remain too lazy to bake, I guess I'll buy. I believe all the Raley's have them.

I'll have to check out the ice cream.

I think that I'm meeting my son at Bradshaw's tomorrow. They have a new LC menu with carbs listed. Doesn't CaliforniaChris have an e-mail list. By the way, does anyone know where and when Castus will be opening up. the 8/29 Business Journal said that 3 stores would open up in the Sacramento area by the end of the year with the company store located on or around Howe Ave. YES! since I'm a mile from CSUS and others seem to be opening in Elk Grove and the Roseville area.

Hello all!
I have been lurking on this site for several months but when I found this thread I had to register and say HI! It's so great to see a group of "us" in Sacramento!! I have enjoyed finding all the great information that this site has to offer. It is wonderful that places like this exist to help us with the challenge of losing weight and getting healthy! I look forward to my "continuing education" through all of you and this great site!!

Hi, Everyone! Sorry I missed this thread! Been traveling on business...

I do have an email list, but it is by no means complete!

I have personal email for KirkwoodSharon, Sneezy, califgal45, and LCS. The rest have been communicating via private messages ( or I deleted them accidentally. I will pm the others and try again to get home email. Sneezy and LCS both asked about a holiday get-together. What do you all think?

I'd be open to a holiday function but time is short now so let me add that I didn't get to Bradshaw's but would like to see if after the first of the year maybe we can all have dinner there? Thanks for that new location in Elk Grove as I was just out looking for the new LC Connection in Williamson (?) center. I found it but looks like a few more weeks before opening. Does anyone know about Super Castus. Remember the Business Journal of 8/29 said that there would be 3 locations by the end of the year with the corporate location on or around Howe. I have heard nothing to date and would love to have one close since I live a mile from CSUS. Has anyone else?

Also Carbolicious-just south of Elk Grove Blvd. - is it on the east or west side of the street. There used to be a market called Marvels (?) or something like that, is it near that? Is it like the size of LC Connections?

There's also a great post on the Main Lobby called LACarbdentials. We should start one for the Sacramento area too.

HI ALL! I'd love to get together, but I can't do anything since I will be working everyday from now on through Christmas Eve. I'd love to get together after the New Year!

Chris - I'll PM you my addy again.

Sharon - I haven't heard anything about Castus. And LC Connection isn't out here (Roseville) yet. We were in the mall (we spell it "maul" this time of year) and GNC had a huge banner with "Your Low Carb Store" across the front. A few things - LC ketchup & BBQ sauce, the Atkins noodle dishes (which everyone says taste terrible) and an entire freezer case. We were in a hurry so I didn't check out the freezer or buy anything.

And evidently Trader Joe's has increased their LC selections - but I haven't had time to go there either. These days I work or Christmas shop - or I'll never be ready in time!

Last time I was at the LC Connection in Folsom they indicated that the Roseville store will be located at Baseline and Foothill and should open sometime in January. I did send an e-mail to Castus about a week and a half ago but have not received a reply. Their web site indicates they have locations opening in Sacramento but do not give locations. It's very encouraging to see all these new stores coming soon. The major grocery stores even have better selections.

TJ's Joe's Lows has cheddar cheese nachos called Triangles that I like. I also tried the Twists which just tasted like dried up pasta to me. So, I threw them into the Nachos bag to get covered by the cheddar cheese and that certainly did help. A new TJ's just opened up on Folsom Blvd and 51st. Boy-was it mobbed!!!!!!

Hood's Carb Countdown Milk found at Raley's

Hi Folks
I just found Hood's at Raley's. Guess that we don't have to wait for a Super Wal Mart to be built before getting the product. I didn't find the chocolate flavor so if anyone does, please post.

What a treat to open the refrigerator and take out a carton on milk. I tried my 2% and feel like I've arrived.

I went out to Winco and only found 2% and reg. milk. Couldn't find any employees on the floor to ask if they were just out of chocolate. Just for verification-you said that they DO carry chocolate-right?

I went out to Winco again today (Saturday 10 a.m.). Now there's no Hood's in the dairy cases. Do they run out this fast and when, if you know, is a good time to shop this store for full product stocks?

hello everyone...

new product at WINCO in elk grove.
low carb bread by Oroweat.
also Atkins ice cream in pints.

also the low carb milk is located in the back dairy section,
on the slide out shelves, down low.
you need to search if don't find it at first.
it is usually sold out quickly...

I finally found the chocolate milk there today. I noticed that the product had sold to the point where I had to reach as far back as I could. I found CarbSmart bars there for $3.96 a box and they are $4.99 at Raley's. I must look for the Orowheat the next time that I'm out there. How many carbs per slice as I'm a dedicated Low Carb Emporium person unless the carb count is lower. Thanks for your post on products.

Hi everyone,

I would like to be in on the Sacramento gathering loop if there is an email list. I live in the bay area but am regularly in Sac. Are there regularly scheduled get togethers? I used to meet with the Northern Cal group but it has been years ago now...

Just another update about local restaurants going low carb. Was at the Hyatt downtown over the weekend and their restaurant, Dawson's, has several "Atkins friendly" entrees (printed just like that on their menu). Also tried the "Low Carb Six Dollar Burger" at Carls Jr today - they don't quite have the wrap thing down as well as In-n-Out but it was ok. The first one I got was smothered with ketchup so be sure to ask for none. Menu says it has 6carbs. Happy New Year to all!

Learning Exchange-Kicking the sugar/carb habit

I just grabbed a copy of the Learning Exchange with this as the first class listed on the front page. Page 5-Kicking the sugar/carb habit says - The average American consumes more then 150 pounds of sugar each year. This overcomsumption upsets our body chemistry and devastastes the immune system. Discover how sugar/carbohydrates affect your mood from a physiologiccal standpoint and how these substances are addictive. Understand the roots of carbohydrate cravings and learn to normalize your insulin levels to prevent future food binges. Learn how to change your dietary habits to prevent food cravings and mood swings in a very short time. Donna Schwontkowski is a physician and holds two degrees in nutrition. Tuesday 1?12=3 6-9:30 p.m. $39 plus $10 materials fee.
I am intrigued by this class and might just take it. Curious to see what a physican who two degrees in nutrition will present this WOE.
