Memphis/North Mississippi Area?-

Hi!

Just wondering how many lowcarbers we have on the board from this area. Maybe we can form a small group for support and get together every once in awhile.

Hi,

I'm not from North MS but from South MS. My husband is from New Albany so we are often in North MS up close to Memphis.

It's nice to see another Mississippian I would be glad to lend support anytime.

Oxford is a lovely town...When I went to Mississippi State I had some friends at Ole Miss and really enjoyed going to Oxford. I love the town square.

It's great to hear Oxford is growing. My husband is from New Albany and over the past 12 or so years we've been dating(4 years) and married(8 years) the town has grown so much. I wouldn't think it could support all the businesses that have sprung up but they seem to be doing fine.

are any of the new businesses you can't wait for them to open? We're getting a new supermarket in Hattiesburg that'll be about a mile and a half from where I live. Finally another choice besides Wal-Mart on this side of town. I'm hoping the new grocery store has a good selection of low carb foods.

Wal-Mart supercenter opened last year and it has about 20 stores that will be beside it. So far none of the stores are a must shop in store. Home Depot opens in January. There are about three mini malls going up. We now have Chili's, Zaxby's, and Applebee's. Long John Silver & KFC are building a place together it will open on the 15th. There is a new Creme Kup here. That's about it for now. I will keep you posted.

That sounds very good for Oxford. I've never heard of Zaxby's though..the other food places we have in hattiesburg...I really like Chili's.

I had a question about your WOE..it has Atkins-KISS...what is KISS? I'm out of the loop on that one.

How long you been doing atkins? we just started...Saturday will be two weeks for me and Monday will be a week for DH. So far I'm down 9 lbs.! woo hoo!

Kiss is a form of clean eatting to me. It's just meat and vegetable. No processed food. No cheese, hot dogs, or sugar free foods. You can do a search and you will find a kiss challenge thread.

If I were you I would continue with Atkins don't try kiss until you know that you have stalled for at least two months.

I posted that question to you and today I've seen at least 3 threads with KIss in the title

I like the sound of it and will definitely keep in mind if we stall...which seemed to happen last time we were on atkins.

Hi!

Nice to meet ya both!
I love oxford. I used to travel there every week to go visit my Mary Kay director for our weekly meetings, but that was when I used to live in Senatobia. We moved to Olive Branch last year. (about 10 min south of memphis)

I also eat using the KISS method. Nothing else really works for me. When I try to add in all the allowed extras I stall or my weightloss is so slow I barely notice..lol With KISS its a very steady drop for me. Thank goodness I read about it on the board.
Gotta love LCF!

I'm going to check out the KISS method further. My mom is doing Atkins also. In fact, the first time we did atkins that's how I found out about it was through her. She seems to stall or have really slow weightloss...I'll have to ask her sunday how it going on Atkins and see how she is losing. Maybe I can help find out what's causing her stalls.

Eating LC is so great..I can't believe how I'm not hungry all the time. I know some nay-sayers say well you're taking in less calories and that's why you lose. But I think well if I ate 1200 calories a day with carbs I would be starving all the time and fixated o my next meal

There are so many misconceptions about Atkins. that's why I like this board so much...it's such an education...maybe help combat all those nasty myths about this WOE.

Alena, Do you still sell Mary Kay? I have an aunt who sells and she loves it..she's retired and ths really offers something flexible to make some money. The more I work 8-5 the more I think yeah I'd like a flexible job

I love kiss. It teaches you to discipline yourself. Lylabean you should do some research on it and tell your mother. It will really help to pull the weight off. I am starting a two week challenge on another thread tomorrow. I hope to lose at least five pounds.

I have already found a couple of websites about KISS and I must admit I do like what I've read so far. This time doing Atkins we are trying to be a lot smarter than we were before and be more active in research, finding recipes. I think that was my biggest downfall last time was we have very few LC recipes and I was just tired of not being able to cook casseroles and stuff. I can't believe I actually felt that way because I'm not someone who likes to cook

It also seems in the few years since we done atkins last that there are so many LC choices or products. I remember we bought soy flour and tried cooking with it only to hate it. It was like sawdust. Luckily I found a dog treat recipe that called for soy flour and the dogs loved it

This is a ring that my ex-bf and I picked out about 4 years ago. We are sort of still together but he is in the Virgin Islands. I went to Tiffany's online and picked out a different one yesterday but I couldn't save it so I decided to stick with this one as my avatar.

Amiee3377,

That's a gorgeous ring. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and I'm thinking I want a wrap around ring to go around my engagement ring for the ten year mark. I use to love jewelry but haven't worn it much in recent years. most of my rings are tight b/c of my weight gain. Maybe I'll start wearing them again when more weight comes off!

So any weekend plans? we're going to go see "Elf" tonight. Looks like it'll be really cute and funny. Other than that plan to do some spring cleaning 5 months late.

Lynn

Thanks for the compliment.

I wear jewelry all the time. I have a one carat platinum necklace that he bought for me earlier this year. I love it. I can't wait to get that ring.

I love jewelry too..don't wear it that much lately..a lot of my rings are tight so hopefully once some of this extra weight comes off I can wear them again. I have a lot of costume jewelry pieces..use to love to wear them when I was a teen but have fallen out of the habit of accessorizing...need to get back into it...think I just feel more put together with jewelry on.

How was the weekend everyone? It was nice here. Have two potluck meals this week..plan to make a LC cheesecake for both. Hope they turn out yummy.

My weekend was busy. I plan on making a cheesecake sometime this week. I need to see how it will turn out before thanksgiving. Which cheesecake are you fixing?

I'm going to try Beachgirl's Basic Cheesecake and also the Low carb crust. The low carb crust sounded good and easy...basically crushed nuts...think I can handle that. I think if the plain cheesecake turns out alright I may try the peanut butter one next...that sounds really good.

I'm going to make it for Wednesday night so I'll report Thursday how it was

I was in Wal-Mart Saturday looking through the LC section and it seems they've added some things over the last week. They had some candy by Rusell Stover which I bought the mint one..its like york peppermint patty..it was good. I hope the section expands.

I'm trying to remember what else is on the isle...I'm thinking it's the isle with pasta/spaghetti. It use to be mainly diabetic foods but they've put all the sugar free and LC stuff together...I read one post where they found the SF stuff next to the regular stuff..that'd be handy.

Our new little grocery store in Oak Grove is getting close to opening. I can't remember the name of it..but hoping that they have some sort of selection. It's hard to believe how big Hattiesburg is and we can't keep a big grocery store...jitney jungle premier closed and albertson's closed a few years ago...I bet albertson's would have been a good source for LC...but they always seemed a little high and how LC stuff seems to run high anyway.

At the discount grocery store one time they had the sugar buster's pasta made of wheat and it was really good..ofcourse you can never count on what they'll have since it's salvage groceries. I haven't seen any pasta like it since.

LC Cheesecake

Well I made the cheesecake last night(beachgirls recipe) and had more than would fit into my pie pan so I made a small side one for us to munch on. The potluck isn't until tonight.

I've never made cheesecake before so I didn't know how it would turn out..but it turned out really good. and I'm happy to say is it every yummy the textue only seems just slightly different than cheesecake...not as stiff...but also when we ate it it hadn't cooled off all the way so that could be the culprit.

I have another potluck dinner friday and i'm going to make it again...may try the peanut butter cheesecake and i may add the low carb crust..had ran out of nuts at the house last night.

I went to Wal-Mart last night and theire sugar free/low carb isle has grown since last week! they have a ton of Atkins products now like breads, mixes, muffins... they also had some sweet in low cake mixes which I may try one for christmas...It'd be nice to have cake every once in a while.

The new grocery store is open near where we live...will have to check it out soon. Also really close to our house is a health food store...have to check with them...i know they have SF candy bars and stuff b/c I heard someone talking about buying some there.
