Hello MN

This is a great site! I start Atkins Sept. 15. only 8 lbs. lost. A little frustrated, so I have been looking to learn more.

Welcome to a great site. There is much support here as there are so many of us that share the same struggles.

Don't worry about the slow loss. Most of the time the slower losses prove to be the pounds that stay off.

Do you have a goal weight or size? I chose to set a weight goal, but there are many here that set size goals as the scales just aren't a fair assessment sometimes.

Hope to hear from you, and again welcome.

Adding more FAT?

A Friend of mine lost 50 lbs. on Atkins. After my assessment, she stated I was not getting enought FAT in my diet such as adding Mayo, butter and the like to eggs, and protein. Do others find this speeds up weight loss?

I can't say if increasing fat speeds things up or not. When I initially started getting rid of the extra pounds, I was keeping calories down to 1200 as well as lowering carbs so I didn't allow a whole lot of fat in my diet. But then I had a whole person to lose. It was faster in the beginning but slowed as I progressed.

Do you keep a journal? It can be a very handy tool to see just exactly how many carbs and calories you eat. It also makes you a little more accountable. www.atkins.com has an excellent journal online; www.fitday.com will show you just what your calorie intake is as well as the vitamin/mineral values of the foods you consume plus carb and fiber count. Sometimes we overlook things that have carbs that we don't realize like veggies and cheeses. Measuring is essential as well. A serving size is sometimes a lot smaller than we might picture in our minds.

Check these sites and see how you're doing. Hope they are a help to you.

COUNT...

I kept reading no need to count calories, so I didn't. I felt too like I was eating way too much. I will start counting - Thanks for the tips and the additional website sites!
