Sugar-free Jolly Rancher gelatin? NOW aspartame free gelatin recipe

I used to buy this at both Albertsons and Walmart because it used Splenda instead of nutrasweet. They have both stopped carrying it, even though they still carry the Jolly Rancher with sugar. I've filled out request cards for it but they won't get it. Is anyone still able to get this? I'm wondering if they stopped making it or something. It was so much better than Jello and I can't have the nutrasweet anyway.

Is this the boxes to make yourself....or does this product come in the refrigerated section already made up? I haven't been able to find it at any store, and before asking them to order it, I figure I better know exactly what I'm asking for!

Thanks

It's pre-made, in the refrigerator section. I haven't looked for it lately. It was too sweet tasting for my tastes.

Yes, it's pretty sweet. I don't like gelatin anyway, but found I could eat this if I mixed it with either whipped cream or cottage cheese. Then it isn't too sweet or too "gelatiny". Wish I could still get it.

Well, I finally found this....I'm on vacation in another state, lol....but there it is in Wally World.....but my goodness it is INCREDIBLY expensive! They are tiny little cups, 2 1/2 ounces each, and it's $2.00 ON SALE!! The Jello brand sf boxes of powder that you only have to add water to, cost 48 cents and each of those servings are 4 ounces I think it was!! I've never been concerned about aspartme before, heaven knows I've been eating it forever! But....the flavors available from Jello are going to get a bit boring before too long I fear......so I think I might try the KoolAid and Knox combo when I get home. Koolaid is coming out with such neat flavors, even some that change color or something! And it's only 20 cents....the knox doesn't appear to be very expensive either...and I think someone mentioned that they buy gelatin in bulk at the health store, so I'll check if that's cheaper than Knox even.

This WOE/WOL definitely has many advantages....while my weight loss hasn't been as dramatic as I'd hoped, my general well being is definitely improved.....but wow...it sure does hurt the wallet (at least my wallet is losing weight!).

If you compare it to the little cups of preprepared Jello, the cost is about the same. Or at least it was here, when they carried it. I wish they would come out with the powdered kind, but I don't guess we'd have that either!

Can anyone give me an idea of how much Kool-aid, Splenda, and Knox to use together? Nutrasweet gives me awful headaches so I need to find a way to make the gelatin without it.

Here's the recipe I have....I think that I would use the Torani Syrup (our favorite is Black Cherry Syrup so imagine combining that with Black Cherry Koolaid...yummy.....I'd use the vanilla in other flavors it would save all those Splenda carbs since the syrup has none....I haven't taken the plunge yet to make my own liquid, but if the vanilla syrup made the other koolaid flavors taste funny I might give that a try).

SUGAR FREE ASPARTAME FREE JELLO
2 Kool Aid Packets
1 tsp. liquid Splenda or stevia concentrate (recipe) or granular Splenda (adds 24 carbs)
4 packets of gelatin
4 C water
Place all ingredients except water in a mixing bowl. Add 3 cups of boiling water and stir until completely dissolved. Add I cup cold water. Stir - Chill until set

LIQUID STEVIA CONCENTRATE
1 oz NOW Brand Stevia Extract Powder
5.33 fl oz water
Mix carefully and let sit until dissolved. Place in a plastic tip squirt bottle with a tip and cap. (I got mine at a beauty supple store). I was able to get a liquid medicine syringe with fraction of tsp markings, which measured up to 1 tsp. This was free.
1/4 tsp is equal to 1 c of sugar in sweetness.
Liquid Stevia has 0 carbs and the natural sweetener Stevia is recommended by Dr. Atkins, Dr. Eades, and even Dr. Bernstein
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
From the book Sugar Free Cooking With Stevia, they recommend in their FAQ:

15. What should I look for when purchasing stevioside or stevia blends?

1. A high rebaudioside to stevioside ratio. (Companies may not have this information.)
2. A high purity percentage, preferably over 90% steviosides. (100% stevia is not the same as 100% steviosides.)
3. Always buy from a reputable company.

I notice no bitter taste when used in recipe's...most complaints I have seen have been with respect to other forms of stevia and when used in excessive amounts.

Thank you Jan! I can't get the syrups here, so I will use Splenda or Stevia. I have some Stevia liquid in a dropper bottle that I bought that way. Would I use the same amount of that as I would the liquid stevia that you mix yourself?

I don't know for sure.....like I said, it's not my recipe, but my wild guess would be that whoever wrote the recipe was probably trying to copy that expensive liquid Stevia....so the ratio is probably as close as they could get it.

If memory serves me LowCarbMan is our resident chemist who figures all these ratios and recipes out, so perhaps he can answer it....but I'm not sure how we get him to notice this post!
