Anyone try Blackberry Patch Sugar Free Syrups?
Saw these in Whole Foods today but didn't buy them.
They had Maple Praline Blackberry and Blueberry. They are sweetened with Malitol. I use Joseph's syrup sweetened with Malitol and Monin's Chocolate sauce with malitol so I already know the deal if I consume too much. More curious about the taste of Blackberry Patch syrups. I just saw an another site they had Roasted Pecan as well. Sounds yummy. Anyone tried any of them? |
I've never tried them but I can't tolerate maltitol at all and just last night threw away a full bottle of the Joseph's syrup. I've got a bottle of the Monin Blackberry but haven't tried it yet.
I saw some other brand of SF syrups at Big Lots yesterday but I can't remember the name. They had vanilla, hazelnut, caramel and a couple other and were only 3.50 a bottle. |
Really, at Whole Foods? I'm surprised - they usually don't carry stuff with artificial sweeteners! They DO have xylitol, erythritol, and stevia, all of which they consider "natural" sweeteners.
I have to go there next week, I'll take a look for them - in what section of the store did you find them? |

I went back and got the syrups today. I love the Maple Praline. Nice and thick. Which is a good thing, because then I won't need a lot. Just a few drizzles. I really like the blackberry syrup. Not too sweet and it has chunks of blackberries in it. The blueberry seems super sweet to me though.
Charski I've always gotten Joseph's at Whole Foods. I prefer to get it at Netrition since its cheaper there but in a pinch I've gotten it at Whole Foods when I run out. They also carry Guylian sugar free chocolates and they are also sweetened with Malitol. The syrups are in the aisle with spices and bake mixes. If you have Ross, check there first. This afternoon, I found the Raspberry syrup at Ross for almost half the price that I got the others at Whole Foods. 6 bucks at WF and 3.50 at Ross. If you can deal with the Malitol, I think these are nice. I love the thickness. I put a tablespoon of the blackberry on some Marscapone and it was heavenly. |
I love the Joseph's pancake syrup, but I've never seen it there! I will for sure look again though.
Maltitol is OK for me in SMALL doses. I can handle just about 1/4 cup of the Joseph's before I become unfit for human (or cat) company. Thanks for the whereabouts! :hugs: |
I agree on the Maltitol
Unfit to be inside a house.......
It is so simple to make ones own jams, syrups. Today I threw some frozen strawberries, raspberries, pkg. of gelatin, water and erythritol. Simmered on low for about 20 minutes. Poured into jar. Delicious on my yogurt or anything else you can think of. Strained and watered down a bit, it can become your syrup. Additions of guar or other gums used judiciously can thicken a bit. |
Thanks for the tip Barbo. Never thought about making my own syrup. Might try my hand at a Blackberry syrup when this bottle is finished.

This is what I used to make the Blackberry Cream Italian Soda on my blog:
Blackberry Simple Syrup 1 & 1/2c xylitol 20 drops liquid vanilla stevia 1c water 10 oz. bag frozen blackberries 1/2 lime, juiced Simmer about 20mns, or until reduced by about a fourth or so. I ended up with 1 & 3/4c syrup once strained. If you like it thicker, add a little xanthan maybe? |
Thanks for the recipe Flossie!

Well, I went to Whole Foods today but they don't have that syrup. :( It was interesting though - the guy I talked to said they have very little in the way of non-sugar sweeteners EXCEPT maltitol, stevia, erythritol and xylitol, and of course, honey and agave.
I never considered maltitol a "healthy" artificial sweetener, and I guess they do! :) |
Yeah its interesting that they consider malitol a " healthy sweetener" but then again I don't consider a lot of their healthy foods chock full of a honey, agave or " natural brown sugar" healthy. LOL.
|
That is SO true! I won't touch agave now if I can help it.
I love maltitol but it does NOT love ME in any quantity at all. I have to be really judicious using it or I (and all creatures great and small around me) suffer the consequences. |
Can someone verify whether or not the Monin brand syrups are sweetened with erythritol? The barista at a coffee shop told me the Irish Cream flavor was sweetened with it when she made my latte.

The chocolate sauce is sweetened with malitol. That Irish Cream is my favorite. I'm gonna start buying it by the case load. :o |
Wonderful - thank you!
