Grocery Store Natural Peanut Butter
I've tried to research about 'Natural Peanut Butter'. At my local grocery store there were a BUNCH to pick from. I think Skippy had one and maybe Jif. I looked on google and I saw loads of different kinds from loads of different vendors.
I prefer to shop my local grocery store to avoid shipping costs. $ is tight Out of all the brands - what do you use and recommend for a newbie trying to figure out? Which recipes do you like best??? I LOVE peanut butter and will need to use that more than anything Thank you everyone for your advice!!! Really looking forward to getting started - and I want to be prepared ! Amy |

I make my own peanutbutter. When you are label checking , look for something with no added sugar. If it has peanuts & salt that's the one you want.

Esther is right. I was shocked to find out that many "natural" peanut butters contain sugar and all kinds of other ingredients. I mostly make mine in my Vitamix, but when we buy it, we buy Smuckers. But watch out, some of the Smuckers have honey.

I think skippy and jif " natural " have added sugar. I buy smuckers or our local supermarket ( Publix ) own brand, as they just have peanuts and salt in the ingredients list.

Before Katrina I could get Peter Pan with no added sugar. Since they came back I can't find it now.
I'm teaching my sister to read labels. Check out nut butters. I make my own . Some are really awesome. |

Yea, there used to be some good ones available but now I'd say make your own.
My local health food store has a machine, too, that they load with peanuts or almonds and people turn it on and grind their own to order. There used to be a lot of health food stores that had those but this is the only one I've seen in decades but if you can find that it is the best, and very inexpensive. That said, honestly, if you have to buy pb in the store then forget about the natural because they all have sugar and palm oil (which is okay but doesn't taste that great). You might as well get just the regular stuff. It is still healthy, but don't buy any with partially hydrogenated oils. Just my opinion, good luck. If you do make your own, that is best.

Smuckers, Adams and Laura Schudders are peanuts and salt only. In our area the Adams and Laura Schudders are carried at Walmart.

Thank you everyone - I know I have seen Smuckers at our local Market Basket. I'll check the labels.
When you all say - I make my own - do you mean you take peanuts and make the mush??? I bet whole foods would have a grinder. |

I make mine with my vita-mix. The peanuts will grind up into peanutbutter. It's easier to do with peanuts ( they are lugumes) than it is to do almonds. To make almond butter.
Whole foods should have a grinder. |

I've tried and tried to like natural peanut butter but it just doesn't cut it for me. I don't eat a lot of peanut butter but when I do I use regular Jif but I will use the natural in recipes.
