Anyone have a vitamix blender? need suggestions!
ok so we are going to spoil ourself and order a vitamix.
We are very excited for this. We are a family of 4 with 2 children (2 and 6) We follow a Paleo diet, enjoy making nut butters, grinding flax seeds, making smoothies, and soups. I am wondering which vitamix blender would be best... any suggestions, tips, things that might be useless? etc... I'd really like to have this all figured out before I spend over 500$ on an appliance (this would be our most expensive splurge by far lol) thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!:jumpjoy: |
You've probably already thought of this, but you might check out ratings and reviews for the different models at Amazon. There are also some comparative reviews of blenders on youtube.

I just got one last week and have only used it twice so far, but the weekend is young! I, too, have been looking around for ideas. So far I've only used it to wet chop some kale and I just pureed several avocados I bought on sale to freeze for future smoothies.
I'm planning on a version of Char's soup with peppers this weekend. I only say a 'version' because I'll use things I have on hand. I think QVC has 3 different ones available with payment plans. |
Was cooking up some chopped kale in bacon fat for my dinner and my Vitamix was just staring at me, daring me. So I grabbed the container and put in some chicken broth, 1/2 an avocado, a dollop of sour cream, the lightly cooked kale and about a 1/2 t of gluc. Then I turned it on and stood back. I wanted to see how well it could puree the kale and how hot it would get the end resulting soup.
Wow! The speed it goes is a wee bit intimidating and the end result? Well, I am so impressed! It made the most incredibly smooth - I still can't believe how smooth, silky smooth - and nicely hot cream of kale soup! Very thick from the gluc, beautifully green, richly smooth! Poured it in a big bowl, garnished it with crumbled bacon and had a most satisfying bowl of hot soup. |
Yup, it does a great job with creamy soups. Our fave is the Creamy Green Chile which is in the Vitamix Heaven thread.

We got the cheapest vitamix on amazon 5 years ago (the 4500 perhaps?) and it's been great. We use it for ice creams, sorbets, soups, nut butters, coconut butters, smoothies, veggie and/or fruit purees, and powdering stevia and erythritol.
