Savoury uses for coconut oil?
I had some great losses when I introed coconut oil into my days, however I've gone right off coconut bark - I made a batch today and just really dont fancy it, and haven't in weeks.
I have 3 tubs of virgin coconut oil - it tastes a little cocnutty, which is not something I like, and the cocoa in the bark masked that taste. I'm just wondering if anyone has good savoury uses? I don't fry with it as I find the taste comes through on food like eggs and meat and they then taste unappealing. I also hate coffee, so I can't add it to coffee. I'm a tad bit stuck - any suggestions? |

I make Thai Curries with mine. Saute the chicken and veg in the coconut oil, and then use coconut milk in the soup part. I don't make bark---it's a trigger and I can eat a whole pan! Sometimes for a quick meal replacement i mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with a tablespoon of peanut butter and eat the mixture off cheese crisps.

You can use it in soups in place of butter, if the soup calls for a coconut flavor. I made a Thai coconut pumpkin soup a couple of weeks ago, and used 3 tablesppons co instead of butter.

Don't like curry or spices I'm afraid! Gosh I'm sounding hugely picky. Topping veg probably wouldn't work as I'd still be able to taste the coconut. I dislike coconut as a flavour but like what the oil can do for me.
I'm going to try making a mim with a TBSP in it, later. If I either go heavy on the cinnamon or top with cheese it might work. |

You can always soften or melt it and add 1T to your salad dressing, whisk it in well then just use it on your salad or veggies.

I know you asked for savory, but since you know cocoa covers up the flavor, would chocolate cookies, cake, muffins or brownies work for you? I often substitue coconut oil for butter in my baked goods.
I have some recipes for savory muffins, but I am afraid withoout the cocoa, you would still taste the coconut. |

You can take a 1/4 c. of peanut ,tahini , or cashew butter and make a sauce
T.coconut oil mix this really well. Use this for a dipping sauce or on stri-fry . I use this in a lot of ways. Do you drink shakes.A couple of T and yr fav. recipe shake. I love this one : 1 scoop pp 1 c. almond milk 2 T. coconut oil 2 T. almond or peanut butter 2 tsp. chocolate cocoa powder sweetner of yr choice 3 ice cubes Spin in blender and enjoy!!!! |

Thanks for all the tips guys. I successfully used CO in some mims both savoury and sweet - the thing is I dont want baked goods daily nor do I want sweet things daily (two things I'd never have said before low carb!)
I'll have to look into trying dipping sauces etc. I don't do shakes just because I prefer the feeling of having had a meal but I might try stirring CO into a hot flavored mug of soy milk... |
