Body Fortress whey protein
I've got bad news for those who buy Body Fortress whey protein powder. I've been buying that brand for years because it was the cheapest brand I could buy. A couple years ago, they increased the carb count but only by about 1 carb per serving which wasn't too bad. Well, I'm sorry to say that they've more than doubled the carbs this time. I'm so glad that I took the time to read the label today instead of just assuming that it was still the same product I'd been buying. There are now 7 carbs per scoop! The old formula had 3 carbs for the vanilla flavor per scoop.
I was puzzled at first as to why the numbers had changed because all of the other nutrient counts remained exactly the same as before. They did change the size of the scoop from 33 grams to 37 grams but that shouldn't make that much difference. I compared the ingredient lists on the old and new containers and it took me a few minutes to spot the glaring difference. They've added maltodextrin to the formula. It's no longer suitable for low carbers which is really a shame. Luckily Kroger still had a jar of the old formula in stock but it was at least $6.00 more than I would have paid at Walmart. |

I found this a little while ago. I've used it for years also. Linda check the one that is 19.98 I forget the name. But it has the same counts we are use to. I think it's called body fortress ultimate . I usally have to get it for 2 people at chuech. And I noticed that.
Good info Linda for everybody. |

They do make a whey isolate version that has only 1 carb per scoop but Walmart doesn't sell that one. I think it was close to $30 for that kind at Kroger.

I don't presently have any, but have bought it in the past. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, LindaSue. Good to know. I've gotten to where I just use plain and add vanilla to my recipes and quit buying the flavored proteins.

Thanks for letting us know about that LindaSue. I would probably have just bought it thinking it was the same. 7 carbs per scoop!!!!! And added Maltodextrin!!!! What are they thinking!!!!
I know, it's all about the $$.. They think people won't notice (or care), but little do they know that most of us low carbers DO care. May take us awhile to notice sometimes, but we do care, and most of us won't buy it anymore!!! I get so aggravated that maltodextrin is put in SO many things these days! And most of the time there is just no need (except that it expands their product, and looks like you are getting more than you are,,, money for them, when you buy into it) for it! As for the BF protein pwd, they need the larger scoop now because they have expanded the product. Sigh!!! ![]() I'll check to see if my WalMart still has some of the old on the shelves. Will probably need more soon. jeaniem, I have no idea where to buy the Pure Protein pwd.

Re the protein powder--
Thanks, LindaSue. I have just bought some too and didn't read all the ingredients. What if one uses the smaller scoop from the older kind? Guess everything would be a bit less, if that would actually make any diff. Ya think?

I just went to Wally's and the kind everybody wants is PURE PROTEIN 19.98.
It has 3 carbs for vanilla , no sugar. I didn't check the chocolate or strawberry. 2lbs. They had 4 different kinds at my Wally's for whey protein. |

Thanks for the info, Esther. I'm sure I've seen that brand there but ignored it since it was more expensive. That's still a good price compared to other brands like Designer Whey and Jay Robb.

Strange!! The chocolate is Frosty Chocolate. Now that being said,,,, I'm now doubting my memory or what I saw, or thought I saw!!! (not hard for me to doubt my memory) I just did a search, and found Pure Protein, and tho the jar/jug looks just like the Body Fortress, the picture I found does not have Body Fortress on the label!!! (and it says by: Pure Protein) maybe my eyes were deceiving me yesterday!!!! Maybe I saw what I "wanted" to see?? So I apologize if none of them say Body Fortress. I sure thought I saw that on the one I saw. ![]() Wonder if they are made by the same company under different brand names? (as LindaSue mentioned) ![]() Anyway, sorry for the confusion!! I'm certainly confused! ![]() |

Looks like you solved the mystery, Billie. It's also possible that they've changed the label so the one you saw online wasn't quite the same as the one in the store.

I used to love the Body Fortress, but when they changed it to 7 grams per serving, I stopped buying it. IMHO, the Pure Protein is GOD AWFUL. It is nasty in shake form and don't you dare try to bake with it. I think a handful of dirt would've made a better pan of brownies. Whey protein is one of those items that you get what you pay for.
It's unfortunate that it is so costly, but I feel it is a necessity for my diet so I just fork over the 60 bucks for my Isopure and go on. |

Hi Ladies! Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread but the whey protein isolate powder that I use is amazing! It's called "About Time" and you can make pancakes with it or just add water and a smidgen of HWC and have a delicious shake! It comes in about 10 different flavors but I prefer the chocolate and vanilla flavors...they also have a birthday cake flavor! It has 25 grams of protein and 0 carbs. It's sweetened with Stevia and I love it! You can buy it at Netrition for about $33.00 and it's a large container so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. Happy dieting and good luck with your weight loss!

I was looking at some Designer Whey at Kroger last week and noticed that the carbs have gone way up on that brand too. It's been years since I last bought that brand but I'm sure it didn't use to have that many carbs or I never would have bought it. The French vanilla has 6 carbs per scoop now. I went to their site and several of the flavors now have 6 carbs. For some reason the chocolate only has 3 carbs most of the other flavors have 6 carbs.
