Make your own soda question

I saw the other day the flavoring syrup for the make your own soda machine, and they use generic splenda in the diet version.

My question is, I do not want to buy the machine, has anyone used the flavoring syrup in club soda instead? If so, how did you like it?

Making my own

Liro..my hubby is addicted to diet coke so ive been on a mission.

We dont use splenda so thats hard..but we do have soda stream machine.

So here is my two part.
I make italian soda with my stevia-eyrthritol (sweetenol-google it) syrup. I put syrup and cream in CLUB SODA - FANTASTIC. I have tried vanilla and im waiting for cherry to come in.

I also just ordered cola flavor in xylitol (hubby is picky so xylitol is closer tasting to sugar) and will use that syrup with the carbonated water that the sodastream makes. Im not sure if adding the cola syrup to just clib soda would work but i dont see why not.. Maybe the taste might be a bit off?

Hope that helps

Jnet

I am trying to get away from aspartame in diet soda (shouldn't be drinking soda in the first place lol). The bottle of syrup is around $5 think I will pick one up and give it a go.

I like Italian sodas.

I love using the different flavors I have of SF Torani syrups mixed with club soda - it's my treat when I need a sweet fix.

The Sodastream flavor concentrates would work well if added to club soda; after all, that's all that Sodastream recommends you make with their machine (club soda).

To get the best results make sure that the club soda and the flavor concentrate are as cold as you can get them without freezing. The colder they are the less fizz you will lose when you make your soda.

Don't try adding anything in powder form to club soda or you will lose most of the fizz from the drink. The solids cause the carbon dioxide to come out of solution via nucleation (the Mentos-in-Coke syndrome). I once tried adding some powdered cinnamon to a bottle of diet cola - the result would have made Old Faithful green with envy.

I use the wand version of the soda thing (as opposed to the whole machine that sits on your counter) and I 100% agree with the above-- step 1 is just making fizzy water, and then step 2 is adding the liquid flavor.

I think the difference is that some club soda has salt and other minerals. In any event, we use the flavorings, and I also use lemon extract and other extracts and flavors to get all sorts of variety (can always add my own liquid sweetner).

I say give it a go!
